Can be removed easily by a competent doctor...Not based in Nigeria but a ny doctor can refer to Bailey and Love's Textbook of Surgery. Its one of the the scenarios there.I have removed similar from my patient here in Europe. |
Its time the Ministry of health stock the tertiary and secondary health facilities with antidotes of opiates drugs of which Tramadol is one. There is certainly an epidemic of abuse of these highly specialised prescription pain medication. The antidotes can save lives if administered very early to reverse the state of unconsciousness cause by overdose. This is needed whilst embarking on mass enlightenment and other rehabilitation measures for those addicted. |
ibkayee:Ameloblastoma...tumour of the jaw and surrounding soft tissue. |

QueenSuccubus:I have not tasted it but it is well know in forensic medicine. There was a real case like I said in Calabar and my consultant carried out the post morgen on the stomach content.Of you watch crime stories you will notice it is well used.Whilst I can't confirm the case but it is possible. The must have ingested much more than what was absorbed by the woman's skin. She may have rubbed a protective cream on her on skin before applying the arsenic preventing the absorption into her own body.Anything is possible ,she must have done some erase arch before carrying out the act. |
QueenSuccubus:Arsenic Poison!Forensic medicine.A woman has killed her husband in Calabar with it in the past.It was detected after post Morton was carried out on the stomach content by our pathologist .It is very possible. It is colourless, odourless, tasteless and difficult to detect. It kills slowly after a period of exposure. It is commonly used for homicide by those who know . |
A Nigerian doctor practising in one of the Canadian provinces was struck off the Medical Council Register of doctors for sleeping with multiple patients over a period of years before the cat was let out.He was dismissed just last year 2017.He was Psychiatrist and had been convincing the patients that "sex" was part of the psychotherapy. It was when another doctor was on duty on a particular day that one of the past victims had an appointment, asked the new locum doctor about the usual practice as part of treatment, that was when the secret came out. |
gr8child:It may be the doctor in question. Some of them tell their escapades to close friends while drinking alcohol at the bar and gist may spread. It definitely happens sadly. The reason I decided to comment is just to confirm some of the ills in the profession and for many who do not believe it happens. Also for ladies to be forewarned. |
saltoasis: ezegold4we:It definitely happens. This particular story may be fiction but doctors 'sleeping' with ladies before Dilatation and curretage(D and C) ,Suctioning with Karman syringe and other form of abortion is quite common in naija.Infact it starts from clinical medical students who have done Gynaecology postings. They take advantage of mostly women who very vulnerable and secretive at the point of demanding abortion, many do not even have enough money charged, desperate and really want the foetus removed. It's really sad but it occurs commonly. The slang amongst most of the doctors who indulge in it is called "top up" before carrying out the procedure. Its a straight forward procedure that can be carried out alone without other supporting staff,Infact medical students and intern doctors carry it out in their rooms! |
Frenchfriez:If you practice medicine abroad you will love it and also very financially rewarding. |
WiredLeggings:Thank you. |
This month is my eight years post transplant for Leukaemia. Its a terrible cancer,it's been the grace of God that I survived it.My brother donated the bone marrow for the transplant after painful chemotherapy session.I was fortunate he got his visa though there was slight delay. I pray the Nigerian Government would massively fund and improve the healthcare facilities to save and improve medical care. |
New prime minister of Ireland is a 38 year old Medical Doctor,Leo Varadkar. |
This will lead to monopoly ,no competition and uncontrollable price increases !The appropriate regulatory authority should not approve this acquisition. Nigerian masses will suffer on the long run,it's amazing that many cannot understand the implication. This is the same scenario where the authorise in the states do not want Rupert Murdoch to acquire Sky cable. |
lakesider:Good development. |
I pray they survive. Its a very inappropriate setting to manage extensive burns. We need well equipped Burns Unit that is sterile and mechanism that filters the air to prevent infection.Wound care is very paramount and monitoring the vital signs, renal function and prevention of sepsis.Anyone can be a victim of fire incident anywhere in the world. |
That is the secondary school I attended 1983 to 1988 (Eric Moore High School,Eric Moore road, off Bode Thomas, opposite the Eric Moore high rise buildings)before proceeding to Medical school. Its was a very good school then founded in 1980, one of the first batches of schools created by Governor Lateef Jakande.i remember vividly the classroom block in this picture used to be form two because we developed the improvised basketball court between that block and class 3 block. If the Government permits,I could provide a befitting classroom block to the school. My set was the third from the commencement of the school. Its so sad to see it in this shape! |
Viccur:They were actually released in exchange for some Boko Haram commanders held by the Government. The release was facilitated by Swiss Government over a long period of negotiation. The involvement of the Swiiss Government should at least indicate legitimacy of the process. In fact,it's been reported that the released BH commanders are already threatening to cause havoc! |
Rectal Prolapse .Treated simply by gently pushing it in!Its not even a very large one,it may be cause by chronic diarrhoea. It is certainly NOT anal cancer.please be guided. This does not rule out that miracles or unexplained healing take place. |
He should be able to distinguish the appendix appropriately at the junction of ileum and colon, moreover the ovary is more closely related to the end of the fallopian tubes which are conspicuously different from the bowel.General Medical Council is very strict here hence his name was struck off the register. |
The face is highly vascularised hence the healing would improve and the scar will markedly resolve except if the body is prone to keloid. We do not understand why the doctor used a long incision,he probably used the wrong suture material for closing up a facial incision.Poor surgical technique may be the reason. The outcome should be better. |
olufunkereal:This program has been on since Fashola's administration and you don't know about it and you are a real estate consultant! I live abroad and have been following it,I couldn't key into it due the the very long list of documents required which I may not be able to get since I reside abroad. |
alexialin:Why do some people refuse to learn and hold onto their narrow minded thinking. At least if you don't have opportunity to travel widely, the Internet has made it quite easy to get knowledge and improve yourself.. |
rozayx5:I don't live in Nigeria. If a bullion van driver runs away with the van here it will be a waste of time as he can't access the money. When he breaks or opens by any means the safes containing the money, the cash get damaged by dye which is released and stains all the cash! |
koolcat:The cash becomes useless to the robbers and in fact it can help in apprehending them as they may become stained by the dye which is not easily washed. Concerning the money, new batches of currency with the same number will be printed to replace the damaged ones so there is no significant loss apart from cost of printing new cash to replace the damaged ones.Since it's a known fact in the country, robbers do not bother robbing bullion vans |
koolcat:It not important telling you the country but it's the fact,I have lived here for 15 years as a physician and I thought this should be a forum for people to learn and exchange genuine ideas.Robbers have pulled out whole ATM machines several years ago but that has stopped since the dye mechanism have been installed in the ATM hence waste of time if stolen as the cash will be stained and rendered useless. |
Archaa:g I am a medical doctor ,live and practice in one of the European countries for 15 years now and I know my fact .I contribute on this forum based on the fact I have, dye is isntalled in the safes that are in bullion vans,in fact the is a button the driver of the bullion van can press that releases the dye as soon as the driver notices threat of immediate robbery.Get your facts before commenting. If you read my comment properly you will realise I said when the safe is opened by authorised person meaning the dye is the the safes. Cash is put in safes here before loading on to the bullion van! |
Robbing a bullion van in the country where I live is a waste of time because there is a built in device that releases a unique dye which stains all the cash rendering it useless. It occurs when the safes are opened by unauthorised personnel or when the vehicle is hijacked. This is widely known in the country so no body bother wasting their time to rob bullion vans. |
Pennywise:I mentioned poor index of suspicion with regard to diagnosis on the part of the doctors in my last post. The diagnosis of DIC is quite straightforward clinically and doesn't necessarily require laboratory test to decide. They ought to have given Fwb(availability ) immediately instead of taking her to theatre the second time given the history of bleeding from multiple sites. It was a nice chat and hope that Continuing Professional Development ( CPD) is mandated by MDCN before renewal of annual practicing licence of doctors in Nigeria. Best wishes colleague. |
Pennywise:Can you recall that at the early stage of DIC ,extensive clotting of the small vessels lead to multi organ failure before the platelets are used up and bleeding from multiple orifices occurs. The multi organ failure cannot be treated in Nigeria. Most hospitals do not have well equipped ICU,do not have life support or ventilators and trained Internist. In addition, whole blood transfusion is not the appropriate replacement in DIC,what is needed are the components of blood that will stop the bleeding.Whole blood transfusion with high risk of incompartbilities causing transfusion reaction is implicated in the aetiology of DIC.Do you wonder why we are not able to treat many of the blood disorders, haemoglobinopathies and blood cancers in Nigeria? I maintain extensive contact with doctors and colleagues who are consultants in Nigeria now and I listen to their frustrations. The underdevelopment witnessed in every sector of Nigeria is worst with Healthcare due to the fact that healthcare is expensive.Do you know how many Nigerians die from bloodl loss and hypovolemic shock following Road accidents and trauma? The hospital may however have failed if the index of suspicion of the diagnosis was poor by the team managing her.Inadequate critical care facilities is the order in our healthcare system. This incident is a failure of the healthcare system. Its the reason I relocated abroad since 2005 to have a fulfilling practice in Europe. |
Pennywise: Pennywise:I practice medicine UK in the past 12 years and 6 years before relocating,I still monitor the state of healthcare in Nigeria.DIC cannot be prevented as such but the management is where there is deficiency in Nigeria. The appropriate blood products/ fraction (Platelets) that is needed to stop the bleeding is not readily available.Whole blood transfusion is not enough to treat DIC ,most hospitals in naija do not even have adequate blood when needed let alone the various components of blood that are needed to treat specific blood disorders. How many laboratories have the capacity to seperate the component of blood.Healcare is practically non existent in Nigeria, that is the reason 1.5billion dollars is spent by Nigerians on health tourism annually to India,South Africa,U.K.,US and Recently Dubai. |
This lady died as a result of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation(DIC). it's a very fatal complication of Caesaerean section especially when the pregnancy is post dated. It presents as uncontrollable bleeding from all the orifices in the body. Treatment is almost impossible in Nigeria at the moment (clotting factors and platelets have been consumed leading to bleeding)because there is failure of the clotting system as soon as DIC cascade is set up no matter the amount of blood transfusion the patient gets.it result from post partum haemorrhage or amniotic fluid embolism (following Caesarean section) The history in this case indicated bleeding from different part of the body and despite the blood transfusion she did not survive. May God comfort her family. |
that one is juz a story for the gods sha.

And what's the gain hidding the country
