*I won’t kill anybody at 83, Anenih tells Onojie of Opoji By Henry Umoru & Simon Ebegbulem BENIN—THE Onojie of Opoji and Vice Chairman, Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, HRH Ehidiamen Aidonojie I, yesterday, raised alarm, that he was being threatened by the former chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Tony Anenih. The royal father said that his lawyers were already preparing a petition to be submitted to the Inspector General of Police and the state Police Commissioner Chris Ezike, on the issue, adding that it was “because I told the world that Esan Royal fathers never endorsed Ize-Iyamu.” But reacting, Chief Anenih, took a swipe at the Onojie of Opoji, Ehidiamen Aidonojie I, saying that he has never killed anyone in his life time even when he was a young person, let alone now that he is 83. Speaking to Vanguard on phone, Chief Anenih, said “Onojie of Opoji was one of the traditional rulers who received our candidate and the PDP’s governorship candidate for the September election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. I know him very well. I never killed somebody in my life even as a Police Constable. Is it now that I will be 83 that I will kill somebody? I will not kill anybody in my life. I am a peaceful man. I will not kill an ordinary man, a big man, a traditional ruler or anybody. I will not even contemplate killing the Onojie of Opoji, why will I do that?” The Royal father, had alleged “He (Anenih) called me shouting at me ‘Your Highness, I am disappointed in you.’ I asked him what I had done, he kept shouting ‘what has Oshiomhole (governor) done’ for me in my life and I told him to stop insulting me even if he is Anenih, that I am a traditional ruler for Christ sake. “He said that was why he was not happy that I attended the function at the Onojie of Uromi’s palace. He went on to say that he thought we had settled, he said he thought we had settled our problem. But I told him that what we agreed was that he should make an Esan man governor but he never did it. “Rather what he brought to Esan people now was deputy governor and he still kept it in Uromi. And that was the same thing we have been complaining, all the ministers have come from his place in Uromi and in every election, he will ask Esan people to vote PDP. I asked why did he not move the deputy governorship to another community in Esanland, must it be Uromi? “He said I should be careful and he was warning me. First of all, it is an abomination to insult a Royal father like me. I have briefed my lawyers and we are petitioning the IG of Police. I have already informed the state Commissioner of Police and the DSS. Why must Esan people vote PDP when in Esan, most of us have been marginalised while Uromi remains the Israel,” he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/anenih-threatening-life-edo-monarch-cries/

The Senate has assured Nigerians that there is no impeachable offence against President Muhammadu Buhari and as such there is no contemplation of impeachment by the chamber. The Leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume, told journalists in Abuja on Monday that the president had no impeachable offence hanging on his head. According to him, the Senate alone cannot even impeach the president and has not contemplated the matter, adding that the rumoured report was coined by the media. “The impeachment process is a National Assembly matter not Senate. Senate alone cannot impeach the president. It is the National Assembly that can impeach the president. “It is the National Assembly and it is by a two-third majority and by clearly stating impeachable offences served on the person if he fails to respond. “It is a process, is a long tedious process and in this country we don’t even need that; we are not even contemplating it. “Even if anybody contemplates on it, it is not going to work because this is APC Senate; we have the majority. We don’t have a president that has issues of corruption, integrity, mismanagement. “We have a president that is straight forward and he doesn’t have any mismanagement or abuse of due process,” he said. Reacting to the allegations of budget padding in the House of Representatives, Mr. Ndume described the situation as unfortunate. He said it was wrong for any member of the House to resort to using the media to seek redress on any issue or for members to be fighting in the media. “But I think they are going to work on it. I personally have been trying to reach out to both sides and we are working on that. “There is nothing like budget padding; if it is the National Assembly that works on the budget, then you don’t call it padding. “But if there are certain abnormalities in the budget and what transpired in the budget process which is now an appropriation Act, I think they know the right thing. “We have a committee; if Rep. Jibrin is aggrieved he writes a petition or whatever and that should be referred to Ethics and Privileges which can do the investigation,” he said. FIFA president Gianno Infantino has announced that 40 teams will feature at the 23rd edition of the Fifa World Cup from 2026 with Africa getting two more slots. In May, the new president of the world football governing body had indicated desire to add eight new teams to the tournament, a proposal that will be discussed possibly in October. However, Infantino has disclosed this again in a media chat following an U13 exhibition match between FCT and Enugu at the National Stadium, Abuja in climax of his two-day visit to Nigeria. The 46-year-old assured Africa that will get no fewer than two of the eight fresh slots in the proposed expanded World Cup event. “I believe for the World Cup 2026, because World Cup 2018 and 2022 are already decided, there should be 40 teams. And out of the eight more there should be at least two slots for African teams.” He reiterated his vow to fulfill all his campaign promises, especially investing more in football development. “I promised that the secretary general shouldn’t be an European. “The secretary general is African with Samoura and this is good for Africa. It is about time we try to follow words,” he concluded. http://sunnewsonline.com/infantino-africa-to-get-two-more-world-cup-slots/ |
