Business / Re: Can A Reference From Nairaland Be Used For Commercial Purposes? by franko2: 6:31pm On Jan 22, 2010
I thnik it depends on what VESTED interest you have saying what you have just said!

Your use of words, has not come out clear to say who you are, and why you are making the complaint? or the observation (depends, ).  In the event it is your own direct copyright material, then i guess you're well within your rights to escalate the issue beyond mere rhetoric. Otherwise, na wa, very difficult to know what to say beyond that. Abi?

Declare your (peculiar) interest?

franko!:

Holland is so very boring normally, otherwise y do u think they had to legalise ganja?  Den Haag is even worse!

As a Nigerian, u goofed, by going to see those monuments a la whiteys, and expect it to give u a buzz!  Its so very traditional for westerners but, has no meaning for us Nigerians/blacks.

Your interests would be kindled, if for instance u were in London like a lot of us, where u would find all levels of naijans, rich, poor, average etc etc.

In Holland, u wont find them a lot, rich or poor, because they just keep there heads down, or are involved in 'hustle' to survive and make ends meet.

From what u say, i suspect u have a good job, which means u dont hustle and, therefore would want to be snobbish and not mix freely with all comers, which is tough for u!   All in all, i think your well and truly snookered!!!   grin

Unjoy bro!   grin cool cheesy

MAURI:

@Franko

Franko, the above statement reflects how little you know about the Nigerian community in Holland. I am a Nigerian residing and working in Holland, I work with a major bank as Treasury Analyst (I have held various positions within same bank prior to this). In case you want to know more on Nigerians holding top positions within blue chip companies in Holland, I will be glad to fill you in. You may be right by saying that, it's always good to watch out not to mix with riff-raffs, I guess that's only logical if you want to maintain and uphold specific standard.

@MAURI
Pls feel free to fill me in anytime! I no there are loadsa naijans of all hues and cries in holland and wherever else, however, experience tells me u dont find them as freely as u would here in london, and i suspect it is for reason of lower population concentration or whatever, all in all, u guys tend to keep your heads down

Am not sure about the riff raff bit and maintenance of standard though, i say so because so many of us would gladly mix with (non riff raff) those who have acquired their wealth by way of looting naijas treasury back home without fear of sanction and, use such wealth to guarrantee themselves a place in the so-called non riff raff circle, living big - buying up and living in choice areas/houses

I live in the Hague

I have seen  the Eiffel tower, its just a structure made with steel beams. I see steel everyday, what make the steel of Eiffel tower different.
I guess Buckingham palace is just going to look like any other building, whats the hype about it.

I will not go to the travel section.

Someone might might diagnose insufficient romance as my problem, then I will have to come here.
Am I really bored? am not sure, its just that I can't see why people are dying to come to Europe. I guess Thats what am missing

Bullseye!

In addition, maybe this story helps illustrate another;

I once saw a posting here about someone looking for a job. I got curious, partly because I might have been willing/able to do something for this person so, I rang and we had a chat. While we chatted, his theme kept on being, oga, what can you do for me now?

Do for you? I think say na work you want? What of what you can do for me, if I employ you? You go do the work? Without, cutting corners and using my things take do your own?

I was so put off, I never retured to him.

So, reaping, where we (NIGERIANS) have not sown, is classic!
Health / Re: Why Is Smoking So Hard To Quit? by franko2: 5:04pm On Jan 19, 2010
Odexmoney:

Before you can quit smoking,you have to understand so important facts and what are this fates?The reason why you are a smoker it can be as a result of your Nature or nurture.Dont misunderstand me my friend.

Let me break it down for you to understand properly

1.Nature : You inherited the habit from either parents.

2.Nurture : The environment you found yourself.Maybe you smoke cos all of your friends smokes and you want to belong to their click and before you know it you become addicted.

less i forget you can also be fixated according to Sigmund Freud he stated that a man live is surrounded by is libido.

jestertech:

I think willpower is the only way.

PurestBoy:

Is not easy, because I drink beer everyday and I won't feel comfortable if I don't smoke while drinking especially when I finish eating, all what come to my mind is smoking. GOD PLS DELIVER ME

Na wa! What can i say? I used to smoke (and drink - fall in gutter, they'll bring me home from party pissed and even stoned!), then, i think i was like between 17 and 19. I went on to smoke most of my adult life, until a coupla years ago, when ma daughter was getting to 16/17ish, i was really embarassed to face my children smoking, because i used to basket-mouth to them about igbo smokers and drunkards, meanwhile, i was guilty as hell!

Eventually, i decided one day, this matter don go reach, i no go smoke again, overnite, i stopped it, mind you, i only smoked a mix of weed n tobacco with weed being like 90% of it. Maybe thats what made it so easy for me to do, it wasnt easy to contemplate doing it though. It was easier to do is what i mean.

So, i suspect, you simply need to set your mind to it and it should be possible (definitely not easy though!). Come on guys, face your demon and, face it down.

Make sure you are very aware and conscious of what you're trying to do, especially that first week, and i think the first 3 days is the hardest, the rest is easy. However, it will be very easy to return to it, even months later. But, dont despair if it happens, just do it again, over and over, is how i was able to conquer my demon permanently.

Business / Re: How Do You Think Of Doing Business With Chinese by franko2: 1:28pm On Jan 13, 2010
Just think of the Chinese, like you would a typical Naija person, but with a lot more cash, infrastructure and access to market. Otherwise, everything else is similar.

They are unreliable, fraudulent, will only work if you make/force them, will lie to you on/about anything just to get your business, then disappoint you etc etc.

However, its a place you can do business, so long as you have a gameplan to neutralise the deficits identified above.

Good luck
Sports / Re: Martins Quits Nation Cup Team :o by franko2: 1:21pm On Jan 13, 2010
We must begin to take the positives out of every situation I believe. In the case of the (Super?) Eagles / Amodu, at least now we know who we may have leading us to South Africa later in the year!

Personally, I think Amodu is not clued up enough to do the job, period!  However, he is not so bad. We could make the best of the already terrible situation, by pairing him up with some technical genius, whom he will listen to at crucial moments, especially during player selection to make up the TEAM and, during matches, when crucial changes need to be made. These are two critical areas where he has consistently got it wrong, for whatever reason - incompetence or sheer tough luck.

We could also bite the proverbial bullet and send him packing. Which would also open a few cans of worms and bring on a few more problems. But, something needs to be done pronto! Otherwise, man fit defect from Naija during this world cup oooo!

Lets simply assume we are still on a voyage of discovery, discovery of the make up of the Eagles team which we hope shall do justice to every football-loving Nigerians ultimate ambition, to see us perform creditably in a World cup tournament.
