3. My biases aside as well (I don't believe in them either), but I do recognize them as part of the makeup of Yoruba history and heritage, which in this thread serves for knowledge purposes.
4. Our parents would have told us a thing or two about them, either in Alo (Yoruba folktales/Stories), directly explaining or Analogies. I remember a funny story told by Pastor Adeboye, about the Madarikan charm, in one of his sermons - about a man that went to do the Madarikan charm from an herbalist, only to return to the herbalist that he had gone to penury since the use of the charm.
