Since you have paid them 1k each .you are now owing them 49k

What they need from you is 49k each and no longer 50k

But you want to know how come about the 100k that you are now left with extra 1k thats the maths

49k+49k = 98k thats what you owe ur parents

Let me explain
.if u gave them back the 1k we can take it that the original amount u were given was 49k from each ..but let me use the 100k instead

50k from each
50+50=100
Amount for laptop=97k
Amount they both exceeded with
100-97= 3k

Amount they were supposed to pay equally
97÷2=48.5

So then
50-48.5=1.5k

So then subtract the 1.5 from the 3k
3-1.5=1.5k

So then u give them 1500 each

The way the question calculated it is wrong nd is meant to confuse u

If u want to take it literally then u were given 50k from both of them ur change was 3k u didn't add anything so just divide it by 2 nd give them both halves

If u gave them back the 1k each
It would be that they gave u 49k each
So 49+49=98 to buy somtin of 97k
98-97=1k
1000÷2(both parents )= 500
So then u give them back their 500 each which is the amount they gave more than the actual price

If u still don't understand

They were supposed to pay equal amounts
Which would be 97÷2 =48.5 but they paid 49 instead
So then 49k-48.5k=500naira
