‘Okay enough of the argument…always consider Naomi’s future before your pride…we need to leave..the programme starts by 6 o’clock’. ‘Whatever’ Yetunde groaned and left to rouse Naomi from her deep sleep. They all ate a light meal and packed up their bibles….it was indeed going to be great.
‘So have you been to the church before’? Yetunde had heard about the church a lot…but she never dared to go…she just couldn’t find herself in any church. She had failed god once and he was still punishing her for her sins. ‘No now…am new in town…so I haven’t really settled down..let’s just see what happens..maybe I will worship there’ Eddie smiled at the cab she had just waved.
‘Grace Arena church’ she yelled to the cab driver and he stooped…looking at the two young women and the baby …he had the perfect set to exploit…he coughed and cleared his throat ‘Five hundred naira’. Yetunde was already boiling with anger…men..always wanting to exploit…’five hundred what? Did we tell you we want to chatter’? the man feigned anger ‘Una no sabi the price of fuel for this country..no be Grace Arena Church Along Ore Road’? . ‘Just go..go your way’ was all Eddie could utter, no one was going to spoil her mood..today was all about praising God and giving him beautiful worship.

Calvary hummed his favorite tune as he drove…God was indeed faithful..they had taken months to plan for this programmed and it was finally a success. He prayed mighty things happened to people…healing…salvation of souls. ‘And crown him…lord of all’ he continued whistling…then he slowed down. He had spotted Edidiong from afar..this was the time to ask about the rude young lady…he wasn’t going to be free for weeks. But as he drove closer he saw his little friend..in her mother’s arms…so the rude young lady could hold a baby so gently? He mused and horned to get their attention.
Her heart started beating again…just like in his office…she tried to calm herself by shifting to the other side…why was she behaving this way? Like a shy teenager…was she shy of him? He stepped out of the car and exchanged pleasantries with Eddie. She tried to look away but she couldn’t..he wore a black denim with a blue cloured shirt and he looked perfect. His dark eyes focusing on her cousin suddenly turned and caught her staring at him. She blinked and quickly looked away.
Calvary felt a little excitement crawl up his spine…was he mistaken? He had seen admiration in her fiery eyes…did she like him? He walked towards her and the toddler immediately leaned out and followed him..leaving her mother startled. ‘What’s the meaning of that…give me back my baby’ she paused to listen to herself…was she overeacting? Because Naomi looked quite comfortable in his arms…his strong arms. ‘chill they have met before at the bank’ her cousin scolded.
‘My little painter…’ he squeezed her cheeks..and stared back at the girl’s mother..this was the perfect time to do what the Lord had asked him to do. ‘Hi…am sure you know my name’? she stared at him with disgust…who did he think he was? Some celebrity? He put out his hand for a handshake but she ignored it and left his hands hanging in the air. Edidiong stepped in…’am sorry sir…she is just in a very bad mood..we were actually hurrying somewhere’.
He raised his brows suspiciously…his secretary was cunny…he stared at the rude young lady ..she was going to be very difficult to please. ‘What’s your name? at least tell me that’ he continued as she jerked Naomi out his arms. He felt hurt…’Yetunde Peters’ Edidiong chipped in…receiving a murderous glare from Yetunde. ‘Sir we really need to go’…Eddie continued but he just smiled…and it left hr confused. Which man smiled in the face of embarrassment? ‘where you off to..i could drop you’? he offered kindly.
‘Sir we are going to Ore road…but you don’t need to stress yourself…’ he opened the car door and smiled ‘ I insist’. But as they both turned…Yetunde had already waved a cab and stepped into it….Edidiong shook her head ‘Typical’. ‘Am sorry sir…she is a very nice person …she has just been in a bad place lately. He nodded and started the car ‘it’s okay’…but it wasn’t okay…the young woman..Yetunde hated him obviously..but she couldn’t blame her. He had broken her car light…wait…could that have been the reason she wasn’t driving? He wondered and hoped not. He had to find a way and appease her…

WRITTEN BY SOLOMON ******************************************************** CHAPTER 1 CONTUINED ******************************************************* ELPHISUIS ************************************************** The massive kingdom Lucien has emassed for himself is proof of his sovereign power over all his enemies. He has conquered cities,villages, brought powerful kings to their knees, before giving permission to his soldiers to rape the wives and daughters of those unfortunate rulers. He is the most ruthless king I have ever been graced to see, and far more visious than his father who was evil in the flesh. He is skilled in all physical combat and has since become a household name when it comes to Magic. Being born with both dimensions of Magic has made him invincible as no one has ever been graced with both gifts. That unique property has made his name only spoken as a whisper, but it seems he isn't that unique afterall as someone has the same gifts as he is, something that shouldn't be. Can this chariot go any faster?
" Welcome Father, the king is in his chambers." I heard Heris say, the head of his personal bodyguard. I went through his huge hallway before turning to the right and turned towrads the left , before opening the door that I came in contact with. I practically walked through the magical barriers in the hallway because without being in close proximity with the King. Any other person who attempts that without the aid of the king will end up vaporized. I am not harmed because I set up the barriers myself. I entered his room to find naked women on his bed, they weren't moving. He must have killed them while in one of those fits of his, I will have to be careful with him before he turns on me.
"You must have sensed the anomaly,isn't it?" He asked me while facing the window in his deep resonant voice. I didn't answer, I knew better. " How is it that we didn't know until early this night, how could something so glaring miss your all-seeing eyes? You can see the tiny little rabbit in the far corner of the midlands right now, you can sense the faintest use of magic from as far as the forgotten lands, you can see the gifts of an unborn, yet you couldn't see an anomaly as glaring as this!!!" He screamed the last sentence in a fit of rage before releasing a bolt of lightening in my direction which I easily thwarted.
" You have to calm down and let's think this through." I said.
"....There is no us here, this is squarely on you. You have to find a way to fix this and quickly. I have so many enemies and I shudder at the thought of what they might to do to me if they find the man before you do. If they harness those powers from him, we are all dead men." Lucien said, cutting me off. Well, he is right, I didn't think of it from that perspective. " What are you waiting for? The simpleton is not doing us or himself any favors by letting his emotions loose." The king screamed.
Well, he wouldn't have been in such grief if you didn't murder his entire family. I said that within me as I walked away to go that freak.

How is this possible? No, no , this can't be happening, One golden destiny is enough but two in one generation is surely an anomaly All of my years as a Wizard, I have never seen anyone born with both dimensions of the gift - sorcery and wizardry until Lucien. He was what every wizard and sorcerer strived to be. We have a way of making ourselves more powerful by putting in us what we weren't created with using despicable means.
Lucien's gifts weren't balanced when he was born. His gifts were more on the wizard side than his sorcery side and since when he discovered this, he has gone through dark paths to balance the scale, killing and harvesting souls of those born with of sorcery . He might have gone a bit too far this time as his latest victims belongs to someone exactly like him, which doesn't make any sense. If someone like Lucien was alive all these years, how come I didn't to know until now,except if his gifts were locked for reasons unknown to me. I must see Lucien quickly. ***************************************

No, this wasn't how it was supposed to go. How did Lucien find his family in the first place? His family was cloaked by me, how was Lucien able to by-pass my barrier. This is really worrisome , he must be getting more and more powerful. He must have been after Kieran's daugther since she has the gift of sorcery which she got from her father. Thank the spirits Kieran wasn't around when this happened, it could had been much worse.
" Mother, what is it? What is so important that you had to summon us at this time of the night." Claudia asked as she came into my chambers together with the remaining guardians.
" You have to find him, you have to find the one with the broken soul quickly before that evil king finds him."
" I thought his gift was locked and only a chosen supernatural occurence that only you could bring to pass could release his gift. " Dahlia asked.
" I released his gift but I didn't see that Lucien would murder his family over his persistence pursuit of power. I know I had his family cloaked and somehow he was able to find them,which means......" " .....He must have sensed Kieran's gift by now as he is currently in grief." Claudia completed my statement for me.
" Yes, he is not in control right now and his changing emotions will act like a beacon announcing his gifts to the world, something the king won't miss. We have to get to him as soon as possible. We are already at a disadvantage as he is in the other side of the kingdom , far away from here. Claudia, you will go after him and bring him here where he can be protected from Lucien."
" But why me, I am not good at field work. I am just a historian, please can't you send......" ".....There is no time for all this, get your stuff and move. I will communicate with you as you travel. In the mean time, I will keep Kieran busy." I just hope it's not too late.

" .........Ethan!! alright, that's enough shooting lessons for the day. Kieran, dinner is ready." mom said. " But mom, we have only just begun, besides you have been stopping me from doing any of this for the past few weeks. Please, mom ,just an hour more, please." I pleaded with my mom, putting on my best good look. " No, drop that bow and get to the dining before your meal gets cold." Mom replied.
I reluntantly dropped the bow and went inside. Obviously, my plan didn't work and Dad couldn't even help, just stood smiling at my mum. I washed my hands and face before sitting to eat, failure to do that usually get me some glaring from mum.

" What did you learn from today's practice?" mom asked. Mom can be really annoying some times, I mean she stops me from going on with practice today and now she is asking what i learnt. I actually didn't want to answer but i knew better. Mom hated hunting , which my father does because it takes too much of his time and doesn't give room for him to be home much. She hated it so much and several times she has spoken to my Dad about it ,who will calmly tell her he won't change and mom will keep coming back with the same demands and the whole cycle begins again.

" I learnt how to pull the bow and how to place the arrow at the right place along the string. I haven't learnt how to release the arrow yet." I finally replied. Mom was actually happy with what i said and then asked me to tell Dad about the new names of plants i learnt today. Dad listened attentively to all the names i pronunced , correcting me in places I erred.When I was done, Mom gave me another plate of food while Dad ruffled my hair. I knew mum would be very happy after what i just did. She has always wanted me to be a healer just like her but that wasn't what i wanted. I felt drawn to the woodlands but not because of the plants there but something else i can't just explain yet.
Dad didn't seem his usual self tonight , he was very quiet and he looked sad. Well, I didn't have any chance to ask him what was his problem as mum kissed me and walked me to my room , after which she returned to be with her husband. " I have been enlisted to join the King's army as a foot soldier." I heard Dad say.
" Why would you do that, Ethan? We already talked about this and you promised you won't be going on withe this plan of yours." Mom replied quietly but i could hear the venom in her words, she was very angry.
" I did ,love but I had a change of heart. The hunting business isn't bringing much Gold as it used to anymore. I can't stand to see you and our son go sick because of limited resources. I hate to see you wearing those worn ou clothes. I...."

"....I don't care about all that, I knew all these before I decided to marry you. All I ever wanted is a happy home, not riches. Ethan, we have a son . You can't just wakeup and decide to choose your path to death. There is more to a successful home than money, please don't do this." Mom pleaded. " I am doing this for our son, most especially. For weeks now , I have thought of alternatives but they are none at the moment. The King desires Scultors,crafts-men, artists, healers and fair women and you know I don't fit in any of those categories. I am a plain bow-man, a hunter , rejected by his family because I wasn't born with the gift. The only place i fit in is the army. As wicked as the King is , he keeps to his word. Besides, the battle is already half won and we have Magicians and all kinds of sorcerers on our side, so I won't be doing much and I won't be away from you lot for long. Let your mind be at peace because i will surely return. " I heard Dad say before they both started their noisy lovemaking.
I drifted off to sleep and woke up the next day to a home without Dad. I decided to look out for Mum and practically followed her everywhere she went like I could actualtually protect her. Things were going pretty normal for us until mom started getting paranoid because Dad hadn't returned after four full moons. She prayed to the spirits everyday and they finally answered her prayers when the victorious army returned but Dad wasn't among them. We were later told that a lot of foot soldiers were lost and Ethan Carrows was among the fallen. Mum was paid his allowances and things returned to normal in the city but not in our family as mum was slowly losing her mind.
One day, I returned from the woods after getting some herbs to help with mum's hallucinations when I found her on the floor at an odd angle. She had white substance around her mouth, I screamed and called for help and it didn't take long for the healer to tell me that my mum was dead. That was the beginning of my sorrowful life. In one season, I lost both of my parents at twelve years of age. Twenty years later, I lost my daugther and wife to unknown circumstances. It seems I have the worst luck in the world or I am just cursed, which is it? I screamed to no one in particular as I buried my fallen.

The Old Ones...

The deer was so busy enjoying its meal; it didn’t hear the bend of my bow nor the whistling of my arrow gliding through the air towards its head. By the time the poor little thing noticed it wasn’t alone, it was too late. The arrow had hit its mark and the lovely deer was gone in seconds. I felt bad after what I just did and why I still get being pricked almost immediately after killing something still amazes me, considering the fact that I have been doing this for the last twenty years. I shrugged off the feeling as usual and slowly walked up to the dead animal. I pulled out the killing tool and wiped the blood off it before returning it to my quiver. It took me quite some time before I started the cuttings and all as the sheer beauty of the deer mesmerized me. The horns of the deer weren’t like the usual ones as this one had some peculiar curves. I wondered where I had seen such before but I just couldn't get a grip on it, and that it was particularly strange as I wasn’t the sort that forgets. Then it hit me; this was what was called the “old ones” as they were extremely rare to find and quite difficult to hunt. My dad once told me that killing any of this was the dream of any hunter. My dad was no ordinary hunter, he was the best of the best, but he was never able to kill any of these deer before his death. My joy knew no bounds as I quickly cut the animal limb by limb and carefully put the parts in my hunting bag. It was said that killing any of these deer brings good luck, though I am not a fan of superstitions and magic, but I couldn't help but hope that my wishes of having another child after my first six years ago will be finally answered. My mission for the day had been accomplished; it was time to begin the long walk back home. I headed home and that amazing feeling washed over me as I couldn’t wait to tell my beautiful wife and daughter the good news. I ran through the woods, scaring the little animals in the process. I still couldn’t believe it; I have done what no hunter has done in generations. Has it even ever been done? “yessssssss”I screamed and punched the air, tonight is gonna be a good night. I soon stopped running and continued the journey home, walking. Soon, I was close to home as I could see our little apple farm, I stopped and plucked an apple, munching it and smiling as I felt like a god. But that smile soon came off my face as I noticed some weird tracks along the path to my cabin.
I followed the tracks and tried to make meaning out of it as it seems the tracks started and stopped at the farm which didn’t make any sense. I was still trying to figure out what happened there when I saw a black substance on the ground. It was tar, what could such a thing be doing around here, I wondered . I got a little nervous and ran all the way to my cabin but there was no longer a cabin as what I once called home was a shadow of itself.
My cabin had been set on fire and everything had collapsed to the ground. My bag fell off my hands as I was in shock. I left here a night ago and if my cabin was on fire, surely I would have seen the flames. Dear Spirits, what happened here? I ran quickly to see if my family was in the cabin when it was set a blazed or they were kidnapped. I silently prayed for the latter but it was not to be so, as I found my daughter burnt beyond recognition inside the cabin but her mother wasn’t beside her.
“Mellissa!!!! “ I screamed my daughter’s name but she didn’t answer as she must have passed the threshold into the underworld long ago. I didn’t know how I was supposed to react and so I covered her with my coat and went in search of her mother. I looked around the area hoping to find something that might lead me to her as she wasn’t in the cabin. I searched and searched but I couldn’t find anything until for some reason I decided to look up and to my horror, there she was, hanging from a tree. The tracks that didn’t lead to nowhere finally made sense as it was right under there she was hanged .
Tears ran down my eyes as I quickly climbed the tree to bring her down. Her eyes were wild open suggesting that she was watching something horrifying before her death, probably the fact that her daughter was being set on fire. No, it was something else as her clothes look ruffled. I pulled up her gown to discover that her trousers were ripped around her vagina. Katharina was raped before she was hanged. Who could have done this wicked thing to a harmless mother and daughter? I went back inside and carried my daughter out, placed her beside her mother. With tears flowing down my eyes, I stared at the still bodies of my last living family. In a night that was supposed to be for celebration, somehow it's now a time of grief. My luck still remains rotten.
Once again, death has come calling and yet still, I can’t seem to stop it from taking the ones I love.
