I spoke about the old retired railway workers doing subsistence farming in the compound. I give it to the heads in railway compound. In the late 90s to early 2000s, railway was messed up. The compound was huge with expanse of land everwhere. I cannot tell how huge it is in Lagos State. And the tracks from Lagos to Kano and it's surrounding belong to the Federal Government, so you should have an idea that the corporation has got large expanse of land used for stations, substations, branches, etc all across Nigeria. But this property was abandoned in those days. So, the head allowed retired workers to farm on the land. Only an efarmer knows this. Hehehe. I swear, wisdom is scarce. Anyone who still call me what he/she wants to use to mock me is funny. Lol.

Do I expect these old people to start with 5million naira? No. They don't need to. They gat land, they can rotate easily, the land is in abundance for them, and no one is disturbing them. They are very close to the land, just at their backyads. But it's changing. So, do not go there as you will not be allowed. And the old men are also finding their ways out since government is getting serious about railway transportation in Nigeria. I give it to Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. He did well for Agric and Railway. If you see all the equipment Goodluck has arranged for....hmmmm...Sai Baba just came on board as a lucky man. I am telling you the truth.

I agree with you. Okoroemeka even said that he should be more knowledgeable than his professors on crop science when he was in school , in one of his posts. Okoroemeka has never hidden how he admires him and his knowledge. So, for pistotita to think that the e-farmer was directed to him is beyond what I can comprehend. I might be wrong though.
Okoroemeka, sorry for your loss. I know you are a fighter and you will recover in no time. Keep sharing your "little knowledge and experiences" to benefit everyone, not only those with 5million naira only
Last last, maturity is maturity. Person get knowledge no mean say person mature. Of what essence is the knowledge self that common man cannot benefit from?

For me here in ekiti state this is the best time to have cucumber for sale. During the dry season I was competing with those from the north n I hustled 2 sell for 4k but now am doing shakara with the sales.

A friend went took his cucumber to market few days ago. He said a bag was sold at #2600. During dry season, a bag can sell as high as 7k here in Ilorin.

My advice is that you understand your local market where you plan to sell. Carry out market research first. Do not rely only on the info you get here. Get out there and work it out yourself.

Visit the market where you plan to sell your cucumber. Please don't just buy any seed and plant without knowing the variety that has most value in your area

It's 6 days since we planted and the results are slowly coming in,we noticed that cu 999 had 50-70% germination in 5 days,but monalisa is around 20-30% germination in 6 days,it's interesting to see a side by side comparison,more results will be coming in as the project progresses,I think it better for my fellow farmers to see and judge for themselves,the first pic is cu999,the second is monalisa all is 6 days old

I was about to say that. Real farmers are always busy and there are several threads when he can get real practical knowledge. If he asks questions on these threads, not even the owner alone but other experienced farmers would be willing to answer his questions

It's always advisable to add manure as basal before planting cucumber. Maybe more would have germinated if you added manure before planting. All the best

hmm,we have not done anything to the melon,we are so busy that we forgot the melon, even common fungicide or foliar we have not sprayed, thank God we applied good manure and nematicide before planting that why all insects ran away,they are crawling now with small tendrils appearing,it's time for 1st NPK/urea application,but I will give it to this melons no amount of sunlight can shake them,we irrigate every 3 days but their heat tolerance is unbelievable,no wonder they said it originated from the desert,and thing noticed is that no nematicide ,no vegetables farming for us as simple as that,that thing kills anything that flew,crawl,jumped or wriggled near the melons, including snails, centipede, millipedes,worms of various categories, caterpillars of different models,bettles of all colours,but only drawback it also kills earthworm,but a small price to pay for a good yield.

Is it the foreign nematicide you told us about?

if we will stake 2 or 3 plants to see how viable and doable it is then we can scale it up,if WM can be grown with slightly wider gaps like 2 feet spacing from cukes and staked,,imagine the yield that will come if you plant 1000 WM crop with staking on 1 plot of land against planting 300-400 on the same plot without staking using 5×4 feet spacing to crawl on ground,but the staking will be something else,it will be carefully done with selected materials and experienced workers with intense supervision.i doubt if we can pull it off,but if we do then it will be the craziest thing we have ever done.
