there is one useless site called believers portal that just takes articles wriiten by others and makes no reference to where they got it from. Passing it off as thier own and its a christian based site .. ! the people there have literally copied almost all articles from one of my sites ..cause we walk closely with a pastor.. why not just reference where u got it from? nothing wrong in spreadig the word of God but men ...its painfull to see your work somewhere else without reference to the origin. i dont get it ..its not like its jokes where u cant find the origin. As we publish they goat copies it with photos within days ..to show how crooked they are there is no contact form or anything

If it is not free then answer my next question- if the company employs developers how do they pay per annum? How many copies of the software is sold per year and at what price? Is the company a quoted company? Do they face competition? How will they survive massive market share attacks from predators if they dont have enough cash? FYI softgiants like microsoft have been able to survive and expand their product line because they charge well. They billions of dollars in cash that they can create a search engine to rival google. They pay their developers up to 500k usd and they attract the best talent , would b more productive with 5k dollars /year or 50k dollars? Life is not survival but thriving . With 45k usd excess that 10k developer can do much much more. All i'm saying charge well like a professional not like a beggar. On the accounting aspect they have been super software like quicken, quickbooks does it reduce the number of cpas no!! because that software of yours only automates the drudgery of the profession. There's more to accounting than preparing automatable reports. Accountants will have to find other ways to make money its a fact of life but ur view of accounting is poor, do you there is a philosophical branch in accounting do you know there is active accounting research that accounting isnt a static field? Did the electronic calculator make mathematics obsolete ? It only put abacus makers out of business! Besides as you urself mention the small business owners run from the human accountants because of the fees at least the human accountants are charging fees that are befitting not beggarly.

Everyone just take a deep breadth lets not get carried away. What is this thread about? op is complainning the price of web design has gone down with people charging minimal fees contrary to what they will like to charge and wants to organise small union to control the price of webdesign ..I say fa fa faa foul and my reason is that technology has come into web design in such a way that the basic sites that meets the needs of most avaerage people/small to midium businesses can be done for less than 49k because its no longer difficult to create a site. If I choose to do it for 30k how can you ban me? Its called competition, market how ur different and charge what u want.

I am glad u asked this question! there are people who know the software exist ,but still scared of using PCs for more than email (this is where the sharp guys come in) ..they buy the software and rather than pay an accounting firm an arm and leg get a bookeeeper or whomever to fill in all thier business details and pay what you can say is 10k-12 for what used to cost 10times more. They do it at thier own risk but when it has worked for you for years and you have had no tax problems then what is the argument for paying an arm and a leg for a "proffesional"

If you know mr A has built and can build you a cheap site that meets ur need , why pay mr B 100k for the same thing. Technology has made web design more assesible, gone are they days coders held a monopoly , Adapt !! When I started in IT, DOS and Concurrent dOS armed with a 1.4MB diskett was the order of the day, programmers were god, sorry to burst ur bubble , i can build a web app today with buzztouch so not even all areas of development are free from us non-programming butadvanced IT people

In Sweden/Norway there is a fantastic accounting software called Visma that completly erases the need for an accountant if you run a small business.. I mean COMPLETLY, it does everything including everything you need to fill in ur tax form at the end of the year ..Lets call it the wordpress of accounting..

So in ur minds accountants should get together and ban progress because what they made seem so hard has been made soo easy and accesible to everyone? No you adapt or go out of business and many have or go after big companies and what not. I am still not convinced of the need to ban anything ..its progress ,some people pay 10k and get a great site ,some people pay 70k and get rubbish , price does not gaurantee quality! or does it?

This exposed me to some average pocketted clients, starting from feb I was making about 300k per month(per site) alone whiping huge sites.
Recurrent fees from hosting of past clients was coming to about 150k.
Between august and october I worked with a company that paid 90k as a side project. As an extra.
Am currently building a custom school management site for a private university that's worth well above 1M.
My major problem last year was whipping up sites much faster. I don't even look at those 10k website people.
I found out that they are the ones who would trouble you the more.and they never just get satisfied.
Am so fast, yet I wish I could double that speed thi year.

What am trying to say is that though those sites are based on open source like Joomla and Drupal, extensive work had to be done by professionals to get that look and feel and to make the CMS function as the *paying* company wants it to. So though its Joomla/Drupal, the result you see for example,in the gtb. com website, is not what can be achieved by just having the *cut and paste* skills.

You are making my point for me. Take a template and add the magic that you have to it. That will set you apart, why bash people using wordpress and so forth and complaining about what another person charges. CNN.com is based on wordpress as well. There is no medal for suffering to build a site from scratch when you can customize a template as much as you want. Only in nigeria you want to suffer and brag about hand codding from scrath and want to charge one million in 2013, unless you get Aso rock contracts so my view is Adapt or Die! Move to more advanced things if your so damn good leave the market for us "advanced web admins" cause we know what we are doing

Only in rare cases is there a need to begin coding a site from scratch in 2013, get a template and add ur magic to it,apply ur ginuius bang in out in two days and move on ! U call it cut & past, i liken it to the convinience of an iphone over the suffings involved with nokia 3330. Move with the times!QED!

Writting quality content is a different ball game and i doubt a web designer/developer is the best person to sit down and write articles..unless we are talking of getting fake plr and copying and pasting in a site

2. How much wld you charge for design (in ur own case copy and paste) of each page?
3. How much wld you charge if you have to develop content for each page?
4. How much wld you charge if u need extra widgets and plugins?
5. How much wld you charge if they have no logo?
6. How much wld you spend on internet connectivity?
7. How much wld you charge for logistics?

Besides, a person who can not do more than wordpress and joomla is only an administrator and not a website designer or web developer. Cos in the real sense, you have not designed anything, only cut and paste.

Thats what I want you to know, cut and paste as you call it is here to stay with beautiful results in many cases. The question is , what can you offer differently that will blow ur clients mind away from cut & paste? When you answer that question , market it !!

Abegi,..stop whinning, instead of trying to form union why not adapt. Abroad there are various prices for various types of site! If your good at what you do your work will stand out but Wordpress and joomla are here to stay and there is nothing you can do about it. some sites you suffer hand coding are no different from some templates i see and atimes the templates are even better. You are like IBM of old rigid in your old school ways .. With CMS prices have dropped and will continue to drop once people figure out they can do it themselves. Change ur proffession or offer some mainatance or watever for free as part of ur package.
If everyone thought like you, computers will still fill up three rooms running on 4MB memory!

Also the quality of visitors is important. 200k visitors from nigeria will give far less revenue than 200k visitors from USA . Some big money advertisers are interested in visitors from certain countries so its hard to say how much you will make by looking at another persons adsence check
