Ok if your gross is more than 300k (and I want to believe so):

From your gross take away
1. 20% of gross as personal allowance.
2. Higher of 1% of gross or 200k as consolidated relief allowance.
3. 2.5% of basic as NHF (National housing fund contribution)
4. 8% of gross (Basic housing n transport) as pension contribution.

After taking these items away from gross you have your taxable income.

For those that don't want to go thru the stress just apply 19.2% on your taxable income to have your tax. But this wont give you the closer estimate as I don't want to believe your effective tax rate (ETR) will get to that band.

So for the "stubborn" ones that truly want to have a closer estimate of their take home pay. Lets do this. You know we operate the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) personal income tax in Nigeria. So on your "taxable income" {pls not gross} calculate

First 300k @7%
Next 300k @11%
Next 500k @15%
Next 500k @19%
Next 1.6m @21%
Above 3.2m @24% (i dont want to believe any one of you will currently get to this band) .

Sum up what you have as tax payable.

Now add up the NHF, pension, and PAYE to have the total deductions. Subtract total deductions from your gross and you have your net income.

Divide the net income by 12 and you have a closer estimate to your monthly take home pay.

I hope I have not done a good job in confusing most of you... If yes I'll try use a hypothetical case study later.

Hmmmm.... Salary things. Every employee wants to know his/her take home at the end of the month... Let me try do justice to this... So you guys can have a fair idea of your monthly take home.

I am sure on your offer letter you all have 3 items... Basic salary, housing allowance(or rent), and transport allowance. Sum them up to and call the sum your annual gross.

If the gross is not up to 300k. Just reduce d gross by 1%, divide by 12 and that's your monthly take home. I'm sure nobody falls into this category cos pay you well in PwC.... Lolz.

@BlessenE, do not bother urself attending EY interview coz PwC is by far on a good standing dan EY among the Big4 plus EY pay is lesser dan dat of PwC. In terms of Stanbic, except u want to develop a futuristic career in banking, Stanbic is cool buh u will be restricted to the banking sector. Buh ur experience in PwC will fetch you big career prospects later in life beyond banking as u can swim across any top management position in big and top organizations. Above all, by not attending the interview, u will be doing some peeps good coz it will increase the chances of giving others dat have nothing at hand for now hope to get something reasonable. I mean ur spot will benefit others lots more. At least u can't do two jobs at a time, u will end up sticking to one even if you get offer from the rest two (EY and Stanbic). But for me, PwC is the coolest. However, if u desire a banking career, Stanbic is cool, EY is out of it.

#My two cents

Really? Have you read of the Arthur Andersen/Enron case. In a world of uncertainty. What happens to blesseene and the rest of us if (God forbid anyway) same happens to PwC tomorrow. Am sure by then you won't mind EY salary. Arthur Andersen LLP was one of the Big Five. Am sure most of her associates won't mind joining EY (a BIG Four) after that case...

ControlX check your mail;

Funkystanl please elaborate on the dress code part

Dress code is simply formal. Conservative colours. Suits not compulsory but ties a must. No multiple coloured shirt. 2 colours max. I think on the first day/week of resumption d dress code would be discussed to detail... If you are confused what to wear on the first day.... Just put on your interview wears... Lolz.... Anyway if you must err on your dressing, err towards formality... Sure you know what that means...someone will correct you politely.
Its formal Mondays to Fridays.... Although at the moment we are going thru a 3 months trial smart casual Fridays.... Pls when you guys resume feel free to ask your facilitators about this and if you guys are allowed to join in the smart casual Fridays.

pls funkstanyl and achmed1 pls help me with this . is Ican and non Ican entry level at PWC collecting the same thing? if its diff what's d difference?

At first pay...yes. But from 2nd pay its different. The difference I cannot disclose here.

That is not to discourage those who aint chartered, no discrimination, you guys would still be at the same level and do same work. It also doesnt determine if one person would be moved/promoted before the other. There is a reason for the difference in pay which I do not want to disclose as well here. You'd get to know later.

What a long post from BlesseenE. Guess thats a copy and paste from "Cadbury" A NLder who was once with PwC. The post is as old as 2013 I guess, most of the information there are true but not all. You can just read and digest them to have a fore-knowledge of how things works in PwC way back 2013. Its a bit changed now, and when you guys resume you'll all work thru the process and understand all (with the changes) on the job.

Thumbs up! Masonkz and Funkystanl... I really appreciate your awesome responses. But I have one more question if you dont mind and the opinion of you both would be prized. For someone wishing to major much later in Finance and Investment, which is best? Assurance, Advisory or Tax? I have a strong feeling that Tax wouldn't. Yet, how would you advise?

Advisory...I think Capital Projects and Investment Unit (not sure of the unit name in advisory anyway). But you can take off from assurance and cross over to advisory later on.

Thanks a lot. Funkystanl any additions?

Well I think masonkz had said it... However, I have seeing people change units after a while (6months to 1 year) in a unit. This depends on some factors anyway (you must have good appraisal in your current unit and the unit you are moving to must have capability to accommodate you).

Besides that, I know on the day of posting (you guys to different units)...you are allowed to swap units (i.e someone posted to TRS and wants to be in Assurance can swap with someone posted to Assurance and wants to be in TRS).

Cheers!

LOL. Anyways... It's not necessary you pickup your offer letter by July 6. You can do that before resumption. During pickup All you need do is acknowledge a copy of the letter. You can go for your medicals immediately but from medical perspective I'd say you do your medicals in the morning (fasting not more than 12 hours from the night before) . Don't be scared... Nothing major (blood urine BP chest xray height weight) . 1 hour max. You also have 6 months to have your medicals done but you wouldn't want to be thinking of medicals when you start work so you wanna do that before resumption.

The medical centre (if same as before) is close to the office. All this will be stated in an attachment to your offer letter.

I may not be able to meet ya'all but to those coming to TRS I say (in advance)...welcome to the best unit in the best place to work! We'd see much and talk berra (tho am really not the talking type sha)

Finally I'd sign off with the words of Taiwo Oyedele..."Everyone must give their best in everything at all times...We must help each other to succeed (we are only as strong as our weakest link. To be our weakest link you must be stronger than our strongest competitor otherwise you are too weak to be our weakest link). If we try we may fail but if we don’t then we have already failed. Failure is not an option but even if it is we do not have to exercise it."

Still having doubts about gracing this test.

Pls my conrades-in-the-hustle Achmed1 Ednut1 Davide470 Funkystanl Therealadonye, I know y'all are not on this thread but I could use your help. I'm one year on a banking job that chips in 158k per month but for a reasonable pay cut, I'm willing to jump boats to a big 4 based on career prospects plus I'm not cut out for banking. Pls, any idea of EY's pay package? Career prospects? Is it a great place to start or do I wait for PwC next year? (they messed me up this year) sad What're the stages in EY's recruitment process?

Abeg anybody with answer(s) can help too. I'm in a big pickle here

Just like ednut1 said....its a Big Four for me. personally I don't like banking jobs (for no reason). And like a mentor (CFO of a top insurance firm) told me after school, "never look for job in the industry pursue a Big Four, learn for some years then move to the industry. Ma ba won ise ni industry ooo...awa la ma lo won". means I shouldn't join the league of looking for job in industries cos they {managers and CFOs are the ones using them}.

Except Oil and Gas coys...for me its a Big Four.

I don't know what the pay package or recruitment process for EY looks like, am sure some guys are know. But whatever it is...trust me...it is worth it.

Please, we need an in-house confirmation. Probably, Funkystanl. Mehn...God forbid Partner's Interview. I bind such in Jesus's name!

I buy ControlX idea...anyone of you can just ask...if there's another interview after this...don't say partners interview ooo.

Besides that I don't think there's another interview after this. I don't think our partners have that time. Not at this period of "moderation" and FY end.

I have never heard of partners interviewing GTs in PwC. The most senior interviewer is a Director.

Anyways if it ends up there's gonna be Partner's interview (which I have 95% doubt on)....OYO oooo...i'll just wish you the best!!! grin they are nice people all the same!

Romance / Re: 7 Signs Your Girlfriend Isn’t Meant To Be Your Future Wife . by funkystanl(m): 8:23am On Apr 27, 2015
To me I think the issue of wife or man material depends on the partner. You can never find a perfect person. So a "good" woman is likely to still possess one or 2 of the signs the OP listed.

What I think is most important is if the two can tolerate their flaws. Somebody mentioned if the lady cannot cook good meals. Well I know somebody whose wife...doesnt like to cook...cos she doesn't just like to. She cooks good though. But the guy was willing to tolerate it (even though he likes food...). He looked at her good qualities and overrides it with the flaw of not cooking. And I can confirm they have a very good home anyone would wish for. So it's all abt managing the flaws...but for a woman who has up to four of d OP listed signs is a big trouble to manage ooo

Funkystanl, eminado

We only received the synopsis of TRS and Assurance. Also, in the personal history forms, we were asked about our preferred LOS and only the aforementioned were there. Although, last year the question of preferred LOS was not asked on the personal history form though.

In light of the above, and some insider info which I can't disclose here, Methinks there would be no Advisory intake this year or they would be very few probably based on "business needs."

#My2Kobo

Thanks for the clarification bro. I wouldn't know what the form looks like now. If it is a checkbox, then I'd advice you just specify one of TRS or Assurance and make you LOS intention (if advisory) known during the interview. If however there is a blank space to write the LOS then simply put advisory in there if that is your preference.

I don't think there wont be Advisory intake...its a recruitment for all "client facing" LOS.

The Advisory LOS is very much open for recruitment just like every other LOS. Just that many people do not know what the LOS is all about. Well dont be shocked if you (not necessarily deni7) find yourself there...Its a good place to be just like every other LOS in PwC

...wow...so much going on here...bukunmi lightened up the room...

Well as much as its not so cool giving out the interview questions directly, I also see it as having little or no effect to other interviewees or the interviewee who displayed the question here.

The interview comes in different forms...its not even the same set of people that you see there everyday...except those from HR, you likely not see the same person till the interview ends.

euthopia:

Hi...Please I want to be very clear on this.
The advert for this recruitment said Assurance department then also said "this recruitment is for our various departments or units"....i really don't get......are we in for TRS and Assurance?

Let me make this clear, that there are 3 Lines of Service in PwC Nigeria and these are Assurance, Tax and Regulatory Services, and Advisory. Feel free to choose any of these based on your career goal.

@bukunmiagbana, I don't know you and you don't know me either, I know you're very excited with your progress in this recruitment and you wanna help others too but you have to be very careful with your posts and all.

All the best.

Are you sure of this. Did the any PwC HR manager inform you the basis of you getting a rejection mail?

Congrats to all those who got success mail....wishing you all the best.

For those who got regret mails...well PwC is not for everyone. It doesn't mean you ain't better than those invited. It's just circumstance! I believe and pray something better ahead for you.

To those that are still hanging grin I was in this category during the offer mail (not even interview) which is more disturbing...Just calm down. If there's no regret mail sent yet then you are still in the race. Like I said initially PwC cares about its people and you are already one of us. So you'll all get a mail (success or regret). I don't know why the mail is sent in batches this time. But trust it's all for good. Be calm! I won't say you should continue preparing cos I know how the mind behaves in situations like this.
