That is probably what the future holds for the Dutch skies as police in the Netherlands decided to tackle the increasing worry of unauthorized drones by teaching hunting birds, such as eagles, how to take them down.
Raptors are being trained to perceive large remote-controlled aircraft as preys and intercept them when they are believed to pose a threat. A force of 100 policemen is mobilized to cooperate with the birds to finish the tasks.
Sjoerd Hoogendoorn, chief executive officer at Guard From Above, the world’s first company specialized in such training programs, had described the project as “a low-tech solution for a high-tech problem.”
Some animal-welfare organizations have expressed concern, but the Dutch police claimed that such moves will not bring harm and danger to the birds.
