The Asian carrier pulled back the curtain on the $850 million revamp of their A380s. Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class (Photo courtesy: AFP Relaxnews/ Courtesy of Singapore Airlines) AFP Relaxnews From double beds, leather swivel chairs to full-sized closets and vanity counters, the newest suite of offerings from Singapore Airlines aims to close the gap in luxury air travel with its rivals in the Middle East. On Thursday, the Asian carrier pulled back the curtain on the $850 million revamp of their A380s, the double-decker aircraft which boasts the title of the world's largest passenger airliner. The centerpiece of the aircraft's design is undoubtedly its suites, six private apartments tucked at the front of the upper deck cabin, hidden behind sliding doors. Along with a reclining, swivel leather chair, each suite comes with a full-sized closet, 32-inch HD monitor, and full-flat bed dressed in luxury bedding embroidered by French brand Lalique. Of the two lavatories reserved for suite guests, one features a sit-down vanity. Suite customers can slip under the duvet covers in sleeper suits, eyeshades, slippers and socks and refresh themselves using the luxury amenity kits that include Lalique toiletries, perfumes and scented candles. Likewise, meals are served on Wedgwood serviceware, and wine and Champagne served in Lalique crystal glassware. The carrier's newest launch signals an intent to reposition itself as a leader in luxury air travel, currently dominated by wealthy carriers in the Middle East. Etihad famously offers a three-room apartment suite called "The Residence," while Qatar Airways became the first airline to launch a double bed for Business Class. Emirates also invested millions into upgrading their in-flight bar and lounge aboard their A380. Meanwhile, over in Singapore Airlines' business class, seats recline into sun-deck positions for a comfortable in-flight entertainment experience as well as full-flat beds. Taking cues from Qatar Airways, the two center-seats have also been configured so that the center divider can be lowered to form double beds for couples and families. The new cabin launches will be fitted on all 19 of the carrier's A380 fleet, including retrofit work on 14 aircraft which are already in service. The complete roll-out is expected for 2020. Singapore Airlines' A380s currently serve Auckland, Beijing, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne, Mumbai, New Delhi, New York, Paris, Shanghai, Sydney and Zurich Source: https://gabrielatanbiyi..com.ng/2017/11/singapore-airlines-launches-private.html

This is now the most powerful passport in the world Collecting passports has become a status symbol for the super-rich— or those who simply love to travel. However, some are much more sought-after than others. And Singapore has been named as the country with the most powerful passport in the world in a new report. The 2017 Global Passport Power Rank, produced by advisory firm Arton Capital, put Singapore at the top of its list. It ranked all of the passports of the world by their "total visa-free score," where a point is given for each country that their holders can visit without a visa, with a visa on arrival, or using electronic travel authorisation. It gave Singapore a score of 159, meaning holders of a Singaporean passport can now easily visit 159 countries, either visa-free or by gaining a visa on arrival. According to CNN, the top ranking for Singapore is thanks to a recent decision by Paraguay to remove visa requirements for passport holders of the Asian city-state. Until this decision, Singapore was tied with Germany at 158. Germany now holds the spot for the second most powerful passport at 158, closely followed by Sweden and South Korea at 157. The United Kingdom got a score of 156, while the United States got 154. This is the first time an Asian country has had the most powerful passport in the world, according to Arton Capital. Meanwhile, the least mobile passport in the world is Afghanistan, with a score of 22, followed by Pakistan and Iraq at 26. Some mistakes can seriously compromise the screening of the CV/résumé of a good professional in the recruitment process and eliminate a candidate from the available job vacancy. The list of common errors is long, but I can list only a few that we find on a daily basis: 1. Strangely enough, job seekers still do not see the CV/résumé as their “business card” for recruiters. You can have a lot of experience, a lot of skills, but if you cannot put a preview of it in a positive way in the CV/résumé, the job market will never know. 2. In personal information, it is very common for people to exaggerate the amount of information. Information such as parents’ names, passport number, driving license number and others are not relevant at this stage. Just enter your full name, contact details and date of birth. Other required data will be requested at a later stage. 3. Unless there is a requirement from the company or the type of vacancy, I also do not recommend including a photograph in the CV/résumé, but if necessary, please use a professional photo. Photos with strange poses and inappropriate scenarios are quite compromising. 4. Lack of specificity is also a common failure. Some people think that the longer the CV/résumé, the better. It’s just the opposite. A CV/résumé too long without objectivity is a big mistake. The ideal is a single page for more junior candidates and a maximum of three pages for those with more experience. It is necessary to focus on the data related to the vacancy in question. The recruitment is a dynamic process and the recruiters should not waste much time when analyzing. 5. Grammar and spelling errors along with inconsistent formatting. When a CV/résumé is visibly cluttered or without a standard format, it loses its value, giving an air of disinclination and disinterest on the part of the candidate because it shows that the candidate did not put effort into the presentation. In a biology-defying feat for womankind, one 65-year-old woman has made the impossible possible. That’s right, a grandmother from Germany has given birth. It would be impressive enough if there was just one baby involved, but this woman has managed to birth quadruplets. Doctors thought she wouldn’t be able to do it, but she persisted and ended up winning, despite a very early and risky delivery. If that’s not girl power, we don’t know what is! Annegret Raunigk was not a lonely woman who spent her whole life trying to have a family. She was already a mother to 13 children before the quadruplets came along, which is way too much for a lot of us already. Ranging in age from 9 to 44 years, some of her children already have children of their own, making her one unusual granny. Raunigk decided to become pregnant again after her youngest child requested a little brother or sister. Apparently, that’s all it took for Raunigk to set about defying nature and seeking out fertility treatment. We’re not sure if her youngest was happy with four new siblings, but we guess it’s a case of being careful what you wish for! Unlike most women, who tend to get pregnant in their more fertile years, Raunigk was unable to do things the old-fashioned way. Menopause had well and truly arrived for her and she had to find a more creative way to fulfil her daughter’s wish. She turned to IVF treatment, but what she required was so controversial, it’s illegal in Germany. For the procedure to work, Raunigk needed both a donor egg and sperm, meaning she is not actually the biological mother of the babies she carried. In Germany, it is illegal to undergo artificial insemination with both a donor egg and sperm, so she had to hop on a plane to Ukraine in order to find a doctor who was willing to help. The expectant mother knew she was pregnant, but was completely shocked when her 21-week ultrasound revealed a little more than one baby. Doctors informed her she was carrying not one, but four fetuses, which was basically a medical miracle, considering her age. We wouldn’t have been able to believe the screen if it happened to us! News of the quadruplets overjoyed Raunigk and her family, but it caused nothing but concern for the doctors overseeing her pregnancy. One of the medical professionals on her case wanted her to consider a ‘selective reduction’ which would mean one or more fetuses would be aborted, in order to take the stress of all four babies off Raunigk’s older-than-usual body. Raunigk refused the advice of her doctors and said she would be going ahead with all four babies, despite the risks. She also received a lot of criticism from people all over the world who read about her pregnancy. But she continued unbothered and wouldn’t let other people change her mind or bring down her excitement about the new additions. Doctors were initially shocked that all four of the eggs used in the IVF treatment had successfully implanted. It’s quite normal for multiple eggs to be used when undergoing the procedure, as the chances of them all developing are extremely low. Raunigk was somewhat of a medical anomaly, especially given the fact that her body was way past normal baby-making age. Doctors weren’t lying when they said the pregnancy would be stressful for Raunigk. She was admitted into hospital a full three months before the due date, making it an extremely risky birth. Not many babies survive being born that early, and all of them required some form of intensive care, including breathing assistance and some surgeries. The quadruplets all ended up making it through, which was a pleasant surprise for everyone involved. Premature births are always risky, especially when they’re three months too early. A girl and three boys, their names are Neeta, Dries, Bence, and Fijon, and they have all tripled their birth weight during their time in hospital. China has launched its first futuristic 'smart train' that uses virtual track lines and can carry as many as 300 passengers. The trackless train uses virtual railway lines A city in China has launched a futuristic, trackless train, which uses virtual railway lines to take it from place to place. The train, which can travel as quickly as 43 mph (70kmh), and carry as many as 300 passengers, is being hailed as the world's first 'smart train'. The rail system, called ART or Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit, runs on virtual rail lines through the busy streets of Zhuzhou in China's Hunan province and was created by China's CRRC Corporation Limited, one of the world's largest train manufacturers. The ART is almost a hybrid of a bus and a tram and it will be used to shuttle Zhuzhou's four million residents about the city, before being rolled out across the rest of China. Instead of using tracks, like a traditional tram, the ART follows white markings, painted onto the road and measuring 3.75 metres (12.3 feet) across. Feng Jianghua, chief engineer of the train, has said the virtual railway system is much cheaper to build compared to a conventional tram or subway system. He said it would cost 150 to 200 million yuan (£17 to 23 million) to build one kilometre (0.6 miles) of traditional tramway in China, but with the high-tech virtual line used by the ART, the cost would be reduced to 50 to 100 million yuan (£5.7 to 11.4 million) for the same distance. Mr Feng also addressed safety concerns, saying the train identifies the pavement and has various sensors to collect other important travel information. The service is set to open officially next spring and the hope is to make the trains fully autonomous in the near future. In the US, Elon Musk is developing a system called Hyperloop, which is proposed to run at a top speed of 760mph using pod-like vehicles in a tube with reduced pressure. "I know there are various companies that are trying to create the Hyperloop, and honestly I think it is a lot easier than people think. Blueprints are always kind of complicated, and, yes, there is math, but it's really not that hard," Musk said in a CNN Money interview. "It's like a tube with an air-hockey table. It's just a low-pressure tube, with a pod in it that runs on air bearings, on air skis. With an air compressor on the front that is taking the high-pressure air built on the nose and pumping it through the air skis. It's really - I swear it's not that hard." Lexus is the latest automaker to leap into the fray of highly automated driving, announcing that its “Highway Teammate” advanced driver assist system (ADAS) will be available in 2020. The system, which offers “automated driving from entrance ramp to exit ramp on motor-vehicle-only roadways,” is featured as part of the sleek, glowing LS+ concept that Lexus is showing off at the Tokyo auto show this week. Highway Teammate will “enable automated merging, lane changes and diverging, as well as keep a vehicle in its lane and maintain vehicle-to-vehicle distance,” the Toyota-owned brand states. But as far as the types of sensors and cameras that it will be using to power its system, Lexus won’t say. When its released, Highway Teammate will put Lexus in competition with Tesla, Cadillac, Audi, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, and other automakers that are adding more and more semi-autonomous driving features to their vehicles. Autopilot, Super Cruise, Traffic Jam Pilot, ProPilot, and others are helping introduce hands-free driving to the luxury market. And now Lexus is getting in on the party. We don’t know what sort of limitations will apply to Lexus’s system until the automaker says more. All of these systems require some level of driver attention, and some are only usable on certain roads. Lexus says it will utilize some combination of connected-car technology and artificial intelligence to ensure safe automated driving. It’s also unclear how Lexus’s Highway Teammate will overlap with Toyota’s other two self-driving research systems: Chauffeur and Guardian. The Japanese company recently announced it was testing higher-tech versions of its driverless vehicles in California. And then there’s this statement: The car, which can learn and grow along with its users, represents a new age for the image of cars to which people can become emotionally attached. Lexus seems to be following the lead of its parent company, Toyota, in building new technology into cars with the purpose making them more loveable to humans. Toyota’s Concept-i vehicle, released during CES earlier this year, has built-in artificial intelligence, nicknamed “Yui,” designed to “learn from and grow with the driver.” Source: https://gabrielatanbiyi..com.ng/2017/10/lexus-says-its-new-luxury-barge-will.html

Now officials have identified a centuries-old tradition in Madagascar that could heighten the risk of the outbreak spreading: dancing with the dead. The local name for the practice is famadihana, but it is also known as “the turning of the bones” or “body turning.” It involves families exhuming the bones of their deceased relatives, rewrapping them with fresh cloth, and dancing with the wrapped corpses before returning the remains to their graves." “If a person dies of pneumonic plague and is then interred in a tomb that is subsequently opened for a famadihana, the bacteria can still be transmitted and contaminate whoever handles the body,” Willy Randriamarotia, the chief of staff in Madagascar’s health ministry, told AFP. Plague, an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis, is endemic to Madagascar." "To limit the possibility of the disease spreading through famadihana—which is believed to have existed on the island since at least the 17th century—rules in Madagascar dictate that plague victims must be buried in anonymous mausoleums, not in tombs that can be reopened. But many are reluctant to abandon what is considered a sacred ritual that honors ancestors and brings good fortune to those who practice it."
