Jobs/Vacancies / The Logic Behind 19 Common Interview Questions by gabonsky: 9:19pm On Nov 14, 2017
Go on enough job interviews and you'll quickly learn most interviewers ask the same things. But what are employers really looking for when they ask things like "Where do you see yourself five years from now?" This graphic spells out the reasoning behind typical questions like that.

Sample Questionnaire provides this infographic covering different types of questions, from the straightforward ("Tell me about yourself?"—checking your communication skills and how you present yourself) to the challenging ("If you were shrunk to the size of a pencil and put in a blender, how would you get out?"—testing your problem-solving abilities). Know what the interviewer is testing or looking for and you could prepare better and answer the questions in the best way possible.

Sergio Aguero was taken to hospital after fainting in the dressing room following Argentina's defeat by Nigeria

Aguero's goal took him to third place in Argentina's all-time top scorer's list with 36

Sergio Aguero was taken to hospital after fainting in the dressing room following Argentina's 4-2 defeat by Nigeria in Krasnodar, Russia.

The Manchester City striker had scored to put his side 2-0 up in the first half, but Arsenal's Alex Iwobi found the net twice as Nigeria came back.

Aguero regained consciousness in hospital, where he remained for tests.

Leicester's Kelechi Iheanacho had halved the deficit, with Brian Idowu scoring between Iwobi's pair.

Iheanacho scored with a free-kick after Ever Banega and Iheanacho's former Manchester City team-mate Aguero had put Argentina into a two-goal lead inside 36 minutes.

Iwobi levelled early in the second half and, after Idowu had put the Super Eagles ahead, the Arsenal midfielder extended the lead for Gernot Rohr's side with 18 minutes left.

Christianity is a major religion in Nigerian. Millions of Nigerians worship in Churches that are coordinated by various ministers of God including Pastors. Like a Shepherd, these pastors are responsible for the spiritual welfare of their congregation.

While they are very good at their duties of catering to their members, they aren’t ignorant of the good things in life. Some of these men of God are married to women that are undeniably beautiful.

These women have the beauty, charm and charisma to command the attention of any audience. Like trophies, they can be showcased around with pride and confidence.

See the top 5 most beautiful wives of Nigerian Pastors:

Ifeyinwa Adefarasin
Have you seen wife of House on the Rock Pastor Paul Adefarasin? At first sight, you’d conclude that Ifenyinwa could win a beauty pageant without even trying hard. Well, you won’t be wrong with that assertion because the gorgeous woman is a former beauty queen. She emerged the winner of a beauty pageant during her days as an undergraduate in University of Lagos. Light-skinned, tall and with a great physique, the Pastor’s wife makes many women green with envy with her effortless beauty. Despite being a mother of three, Ify as she’s fondly called has her beauty game on point.

Ibidun Ighodalo
One look at Ibidun Ighodalo, and you’ll testify that truly, some women are beautiful. With features of a premium Model, the wife of the Senior Pastor of Trinity Church can give some of the world’s acclaimed most beautiful women a run for their money even without wearing makeup. Seeing her, you’d jump to the conclusion that she must have been a beauty queen in her younger days. Truly, she’s a former beauty queen. Like they say, once a beauty queen, always a beauty queen.

Nike Adeyemi
Wife of Pastor Adeyemi of the Daystar Christian Centre Nike Adeyemi is a melanin beauty. With an everyday-young beauty that doesn’t fade away, the woman of God is indeed an evidence that the vineyard is full of beautiful people. With an ever smiling face that makes her beauty to radiate, the mother of three is easy on the eyes even at 50. She’s the founder of the Real Woman Foundation – a rehabilitation and orphanage home were distressed and abandoned women and children are given shelter and care.

Modele Fatoyinbo
Dark-skinned beauty Modele Fatoyinbo is the wife of Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Common Wealth of Zion Assembly (COZA). She makes true the saying that black is beautiful. With killer face features and a great smile, she’s blessed in the area of beauty. Popularly called Mummy D, Modele is no doubt one of the most beautiful Pastor’s wives in Nigeria.

Helen Oristsejafor
Helen Oristsejafor This list would be incomplete without the inclusion of this natural beauty Helen Oritsejafor. Married to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor of Word of the Bible Church, she lightens up the atmosphere with her beauty. Blessed with triplet, the Pastor’s wife looks as young as ever, and can pass for a Model.

Celebrities / 20 Times Kids Were Unintentionally (yet Hilariously) Inappropriate by gabonsky: 8:45pm On Nov 13, 2017
Kids are a constant source of entertainment, for better or worse, in part because most of the time they don't even really realize some of the things that they're doing.

For example, what they might see as a cylindrical biscuit ready for dinner, you might see as...well, something a little more "manly," if you know what I mean. They often don't realize that what they're doing would be highly inappropriate if they were a couple of decades older.

But you're an adult, so go right ahead and laugh along with these pics.

Science/Technology / 6 Social Media Trends To Prepare For In 2018 by gabonsky: 7:43pm On Nov 13, 2017
2018 is only four months away, and brands have to prepare to take advantage of the opportunities social media presents -- or their competitors will.

When it comes to reaching audiences, effectively distributing your content, and building a following around your brand, social media offers a wealth of possibilities. It's where your audiences already live and engage with content, which makes it a convenient platform for brands. Its built-in analytics allow you to track and improve your efforts over time. Plus, all the free social-media tools make it easy to use and maintain an active presence.

As you look ahead to 2018 and begin planning for ways to strengthen your social strategy, it's important to keep a pulse on trends. To help, here are six social-media trends you need to prepare for if you want to hit the ground running in 2018:

1. More robust social analytics signal more opportunity for content personalization.
Nobody likes content that's irrelevant to one's needs. This is especially true when you're interacting with a brand you know and love -- the last thing you want is a piece of generic content that doesn't offer anything unique to you as a member of that audience. In fact, nearly three out of four of us get frustrated when content isn't relevant to our interests.

Improved personalization for audiences is a major trend in content marketing, and it extends to social media, too. As social platforms evolve, their analytics tools and business-specific features will become more detailed and valuable to brands.

This kind of data means marketers will have the insights to craft better and more personalized content for their audiences. It's past time for marketers to be creating and distributing content that truly speaks to and engages audiences on a personal level; social media will help make that easier.

2. Platform feature overlap means you'll have to be more selective.
Both Snapchat and Instagram feature timed videos and visual content, so the main points of differentiation are audience and reach. Instagram Stories has a significantly wider reach and receives more engagement; Instagram influencers see up to 10 percent of their audience members open their Instagram Stories on a daily basis, which is more than can be said for Snapchat. On the other hand, Snapchat continues to dominate among members of younger demographics.

As more platforms continue to offer overlapping features, brands and marketers will have to be increasingly selective about which ones they invest in. Take advantage of analytics and reporting features to identify which platforms could offer you the best return, and start there.

3. Social listening will give brands an edge to their messaging online.
Instead of just tracking what kind of content your competitors are developing or what they're sharing on social media, you should also monitor their mentions and what people are saying -- and use it as a metric to compare your performance.

"Using web monitoring, we can collect an enormous amount of data on our company and our competitors that can be used in our marketing strategy. At Brand24, our research showed that in one month, 14,000 online searches started with 'Can anyone recommend?' and about 30,000 searches started with 'Where can I buy?' About 60 percent of these questions never received responses from companies; this is a huge opportunity," says Magdalena Urbaniak, global communications manager at Brand24.

Urbaniak says monitoring these social mentions can show you what people in your shared audience like and don't like, which can give you insight into where your brand can improve. Social listening can give you valuable information about your competitors' performance and your own audience that you can use to your advantage in your content strategy.

4. Video will only take a stronger place in content strategy.
Everyone and his mother knows that video content is popular and, therefore, important for brands. And as social algorithms keep updating, video will only grow more valuable for generating engagement and building your following.

In fact, in our experience at Influence & Co., videos on Facebook receive higher engagement; we see more people commenting on them, and they get more likes and more shares. Facebook's reporting features let us know how video content performs compared to our other posts, and you can't deny how good video is at engaging audiences.

Instagram's Stories feature and Snapchat's entire platform also give brands the chance to create video content and share it immediately with their followers. Obviously, video is only becoming more important. Having the ability to create that kind of content -- and the strategy to tie it to your written content for your blog and outside publications -- will be critical for brands in 2018.

5. Facebook is becoming almost entirely mobile.
By 2020, it's predicted that 59 percent of U.S. users will access Facebook through mobile exclusively, and 80 percent of the company's ad revenue already comes from mobile ads.

Facebook was one of the last social media platforms that wasn't really designed from the beginning to be on mobile. Looking at popular apps like Instagram and Snapchat, we've seen the trend of mobile-only (or mostly mobile) social apps for a while. Sure, mobile optimization has been an industry best practice for savvy marketers for a while, but with Facebook not far from being dominated by mobile use, brands will (finally) have no excuse for creating or distributing content that's not optimized for mobile.

6. Chatbots will make customer service faster and easier.
Instant connection and widespread internet access have conditioned us to want things yesterday or, when that's not possible, in the next five minutes. Unfortunately, I've seen this prompt a lot of brands to do one of two things: respond so quickly that mistakes are made and service quality suffers, or freeze in their tracks because they're not quite sure how to meet this demand for speed.

That's part of what makes chatbots -- especially through Facebook Messenger -- so valuable.

Chatbots give you the chance to interact quickly with your audience in a way that feels personal; you can customize your brand voice and send personalized content directly to users. Maybe that's why there are at least 100,000 monthly active bots on Facebook Messenger -- and the reason two billion messages are exchanged between brands and their audiences each month. If you aren't already, 2018 might be the year to test chatbots for your business.

Social media presents so many opportunities for marketers to connect with audiences, create and distribute better content, and build their brands (and their following). To take advantage of all that opportunity, you've got to understand that these shifts happen frequently, so staying ahead of the trends is imperative. We're only four months away from 2018, so what are you planning for? Let me know any trends I missed by leaving me a comment.

Career / 7 Tips For Entrepreneurs Of Tomorrow From Today's Biggest Names by gabonsky: 7:36pm On Nov 13, 2017
A Shark, a futurist, and successful entrepreneurs have these top tips for would-be founders.

Our 30 Under 30 judges, from left: Shark Tank's Barbara Concoran, XPrize's Peter Diamandis, Uncharted Play founder Jessica O. Matthews, and Honest Tea co-founder Seth Goldman.

The 30 companies (and their young founders) on our 2017 list have been pulled and prodded, picked at, and pondered. And still they stand--thanks in large part to novel business models, in-demand products and services, and revenue to back them up. Indeed, these young firms represent the best of what this next generation has to offer.

But they have a long way to go. After all, every big business was small once. Here, we pulled together some of the best advice from this year's 30 Under 30 judges, who include: Real estate mogul and Shark Tank co-host Barbara Corcoran, XPrize's Peter Diamandis, Honest Tea co-founder Seth Goldman, CB Insights' CEO Anand Sanwal, and Uncharted Play founder (and 30 Under 30 alum) Jessica O. Matthews.

What is your best advice for young entrepreneurs today?
Barbara Corcoran: You should start your business when you're young. Experience is grossly overrated and there is no substitute for just jumping off a cliff and figuring out the answer on the way down.

What advice do you wish someone gave you when you were just starting out?
Peter Diamandis: First, find a mentor, someone you admire in the field you're most excited about and offer to work for that person for free. Think of it as a free graduate education. Going back a few centuries, apprenticeship was critical to one's success and I think the concept of apprenticeship is very valid again. Second, be clear about your passion and don't settle for anything else. Don't do something for the money or to make your parents or your teachers happy. Pursue a startup because it's your personal passion, your highest aspiration. If you do something you are passionate about, you will work harder than ever before and shine against anyone else. Doing anything big and bold is difficult, and if you're not totally in love with it, you'll give up before you succeed. For me, it was my passion for space, which I obtained during my childhood from the Apollo program and Star Trek. Space has been my primary motive force in nearly everything I've done. It's my guiding star.

What is the most common mistake you see young people make and how can they avoid it?
Seth Goldman: People think they need to take a certain job they might not like to help them get the next opportunity. But by agreeing to do something they might not like or might not believe in, they run the risk of either being good at something they don't like to do, or not doing well because they are unhappy--both of which are bad outcomes.

What is the biggest missed opportunity you're seeing today that would-be entrepreneurs should jump on?
Jessica O. Matthews: Would-be entrepreneurs should be looking at opportunities to optimize manufacturing and distribution. The way we get things to places has not really changed that much for hundreds of years, so there is room for disruption. There could also be more work done in material science, and trying to gain a better understanding of things that already exist naturally in the environment and of how to potentially make better use of them.

Where are you or what are you doing when you get your best ideas?
Diamandis: Historically, I've had my best ideas when reading a book. I view reading a book as a conversation with the author. For me, there were three books that made the biggest impact: The Spirit of St. Louis by Charles A. Lindbergh gave me the idea to start the XPrize Foundation. The Singularity Is Near by Ray Kurzweil gave me the idea to co-found Singularity University. I also suggest The Man Who Sold the Moon by Robert A. Heinlein, which gave me the idea for the Google Lunar XPrize and the work we're doing with Planetary Resources to prospect and mine asteroids. In addition to reading books, my best ideas have also come from brainstorm conversations with friends and colleagues I respect, who bring different perspectives to the table.

What book should be on every big-thinking entrepreneur's nightstand? Why?
Goldman: Aside from Mission in a Bottle: The Honest Guide to Doing Business Differently--and Succeeding, the book I wrote with my Honest Tea co-founder, I would encourage founders to read Jack London's The Call of the Wild. It helps remind us that we are all animals. And though we are often taught to suppress them, we all possess instincts, which can guide us on how to act and respond--and it's OK to trust them.

What's the one job interview question you always ask?
Corcoran: An interview question I always ask is, "Tell me about your mother?" Because an unhappy child rarely makes a good employee.

Business / How This 15-year-old Founder Built A $600,000 Bow Tie Business by gabonsky: 7:27pm On Nov 13, 2017
Moziah "Mo" Bridges turned his passion for fashion into a thriving business.

When Moziah "Mo" Bridges was a young boy, he'd wear three-piece suits to the playground. He loved dressing up, but hated the boring bow ties sold in stores, so he created a company to solve that problem -- when he was 9.

Bridges' business, Mo's Bows, makes neckties, bow ties, and accessories like pocket squares (prices range between $15 and $50). Since its inception in 2011, the Memphis-based company has sold more than $600,000 worth of products through its website and partnerships with retail stores, says Bridges, who is now 15.

When Bridges got the idea for Mo's Bows, his grandmother, a former seamstress, taught him to sew. Bridges, his mother, and grandmother stitched the ties in the company's early days and ran the business from their home. The young CEO shopped his creations to local stores and got the attention of national press outlets like The Steve Harvey Morning Show and Oprah Magazine before landing on Shark Tank in 2014. There, he got one of the best deals in the show's history.

Bridges asked the sharks for $50,000 in exchange for 20 percent equity in his company, but Daymond John advised the young entrepreneur not to take any money and offered to mentor him for free instead. That relationship has opened several doors for Bridges, including getting his ties in Cole Haan and Neiman Marcus, and scoring a licensing deal to use NBA logos in his designs.

"One of the most important things he's taught me was always be true to your company," says Bridges. "He's taught me how to take care of my mom and the practical aspects of running a company."

Bridges has some unique challenges as a young entrepreneur. One of the most difficult things is finding balance in his busy life -- particularly since Bridges is a sophomore in high school. "So far, it's been kind of hard, but I still do it," he says.

He wants to attend Parsons' School of Fashion in New York City and become a designer by the time he's 20. He hopes to specialize in high fashion and urban wear. "I know what I want to do in life," he says.

Family / Crocodile Snatches Child On Philippine Tourist Island by gabonsky: 2:11pm On Nov 11, 2017
A 12-year-old girl is missing after being attacked by a crocodile on the Philippine island of Palawan, police said Saturday, just weeks after a similar incident in the region popular with foreign tourists.

The girl was fetching water in a heavily-forested area of the island Thursday when a crocodile dragged her away in front of her horrified siblings, a police report said.

A search is underway but the coast guard and police are yet to find any sign of the child.

It marks the second crocodile attack in Palawan in less than a month.

A woman, also fetching water, was bitten in October but managed to escape after her niece drove the crocodile away by throwing rocks, police said.

The western island of Palawan, often called the Philippines’ “last frontier”, is one of the few areas in the country where saltwater crocodiles are still common after hunting and habitat loss.

Science/Technology / Nigeria Loses N127bn To Cyber Crime, Says Saraki by gabonsky: 1:21pm On Nov 11, 2017
Dr Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate, has said that Nigeria has lost about N127 billion to cybercrime. He disclosed this at Nigeria’s first Legislative Stakeholders Conference on ICT and Cyber security in Abuja.

Saraki, who was represented by Sen. Philip Aduda Saraki, Senate Minority Whip did not, however, specify the period within which the nation lost such an amount to cyber crime.

He said the loss was indicative of the hole created in the economy by cyber crime amounting to 0.08 per cent of the Gross Domestic product (GDP).“It is indeed ironic that while internet penetration in Nigeria is tentative at best, hovering at just over the 90 million people mark, a percentage of 47.7 per cent, internet-facilitated crime seems to be growing.

“Our cyber borders are very porous, indeed,” Saraki said.He said efforts to revive the economy must necessarily include counter-measures to minimise the losses and shore up the country’s cyber security architecture to better repel attacks.

Saraki further said that cyber attacks had in 2016 reached unprecedented level, globally with no sign of a downward trend.“In recent times, we have seen the virulent use to which criminals and other shadowy agents have put the cyber space.

“The cyber ecosystem has been weaponised and manipulated to devastating effect to undermine democratic processes, influence voting in elections and whip up tension and divisions between societal groups.

“Over 200,000 cyber- attacks were recorded in one single day earlier this year all over the world.‘’Major international financial institutions have had their systems crippled for up to 48 hours after being targeted by criminals using Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), among other methods.”

He said such attacks threatened economic activities, adding that personal data of millions of people were compromised by cyber criminals, who demanded the payment of ransom before hijacked data could be released.

“Kidnapping, already a scourge in the Nigerian physical space, is also becoming a problem in the virtual realm as ‘cyber-kidnapping’ of encrypted data poses a clear and present danger to our economic viability.

The Senate President described cybercrime as an ever-mutating monster, constantly growing new tentacles and taking on new formations.

“Not so long ago, one web-based Ponzi scheme succeeded in entrapping thousands of Nigerians with promises of quick gains.

“Investors were left counting the costs when the bubble burst, while those responsible moved on to new pastures. There was no accountability anywhere.”

He said that it was in light of all these challenges that the Senate sounded the alarm with a motion in May and resolved to, amongst other things, convene a national conference.

“It is essential that we come up with effective cyber-security management strategies based on existing legislative frameworks, while building on the work already being done by bodies like the Cybercrime Advisory Council.

He noted that “The ‘Stop. Think. Connect’ campaign initiative of the United States Mission was aimed at reducing cybercrime in Nigeria.

According to him, the effort also points to the need to share ideas and collaborate with international partners to reduce the impact of the borderless crimes of cyber-space.

Science/Technology / 53% Of Nigerians Lack Internet Access by gabonsky: 3:56am On Nov 10, 2017
Although there are about 90 million Internet users in Nigeria, a gap of over 53 per cent still exist in terms of nationwide connectivity.

This statistics manifested, when the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta, delivered an inaugural lecture titled: “Getting out of the woods: Diversifying the Nigeria’s economy through telecommunications sector,” at Bayero University, Kano.

Already, over 200 communities that house of about 40 million Nigerians, have been discovered to still lack access to basic telephony services in the country.

Danbatta, while reiterating the need for the Federal Government to give priority attention to the ICT sector, said Nigeria’s active Internet connection stands at over 90 million, which is a 47.44 per cent penetration, even as Nigeria ranked number one in Africa and 10th globally.

He said telecommunications contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) has been robust rising from 8.85 per cent in the first quarter (Q1) of 2016 to 9.16 per cent same period in 2017, when it contributed N1.452trillion.

Despite the challenges faced by the sector, chief of which has been lack of infrastructure, Danbatta posited that telecommunications has been a major tool for economic and social transformation. These also include consumer surplus, reduction of the inequality between rural and urban dwellers, emergence of new services and industries, direct job creation, blurring boundaries of social identities, enhanced social interactions and many others.

Identifying telecoms as a critical national infrastructure, Danbatta said: “the NCC has commenced activities that would lead to the establishment of a ‘Telecommunications Critical Infrastructure Bill.’ When this bill is passed into law, government would designate telecoms infrastructure as Critical National Infrastructure, which should enjoy priority protection in the country, as well as specify definite sanctions for wilful destruction of communications infrastructure.”

He said glaring access gaps exist in availability and usage of ICT infrastructure in various spheres of the economy, with distinctions in un-served areas: areas not served with ICT infrastructure; underserved areas: areas with insufficient ICT infrastructure and other sectors of the economy not maximising the potential of ICT infrastructure.

Danbatta, who called for more concentration on ICT, said the NCC, through the USPF, bridges access gaps by facilitating and extending broadband services to the underserved and un-served communities and groups via the Connectivity Programme.

The Connectivity Programme, he explained, comprises telecoms infrastructure projects that are implemented through a Public Private Partnership Model, which includes; Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs); Rural Broadband Initiative (RUBI), University Inter-Campus Connectivity (UnICC), and Backbone Transmission Infrastructure (BTRAIN).

To Danbatta, the telecommunications industry plays a crucial role in providing the requisite tools that support the diversification of the economy through improving the knowledge economy using ICT.
