While Cisco has seen a striking decline in exploit kits, other traditional attacks are seeing a resurgence. According to it, Spam volumes are significantly increasing, as adversaries turn to other tried-and-true methods, like email, to distribute malware and generate revenue. Cisco threat researchers anticipate that the volume of spam with malicious attachments will continue to rise while the exploit kit landscape remains in a flux.


Spyware and adware often dismissed by security professionals as more nuisance than harm, are forms of malware that persist and bring risks to the enterprise.

The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, who hinted this at the weekend in Ibadan, disclosed that there are plans to build a national ICT Park and Exhibition Centre in Abuja, which are also tailored towards the revolution.


Adebayo, while delivering a lecture titled: ‘Jobs Nowhere But Jobs Everywhere: ICT To The Rescue Of Unemployed Youths And Graduates’, at the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, said the establishment of the ICT company would help to boost indigenous technology.


According to him, plans toward the establishment would soon be unfolded, while reminding Nigerians that ICT can drastically reduce the huge amount of N1.5 trillion being spent on Nigerian students studying in foreign educational institutions.


According to him, if the Federal Government succeeded in establishing the proposed ICT University of Nigeria, the country will not only develop world-class local capacity, but also reduce the strain on the naira through reduction of foreign currency sourced for the training of citizens outside the country.


The minister said government is prepared to use ICT to foster youth empowerment and development through granting of loans, sponsorships and financial support among other innovative schemes to lucrative business ideas.


Reiterating the commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to use ICT as a critical pillar to leverage on job and wealth creation, and a critical tool in diversifying the Nigerian economy, Shittu said government has established one form of ICT infrastructure or the other across the six geopolitical zones.


Elaborating on the planned ICT University, Shittu said: “We already have the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), which is for short term training programmes, in six locations across the country, and we will transform this Institute into the ICT University of Nigeria. This unique University would by God’s grace take off effectively in September 2017, and would be run as a Public Private Partnership with the best business and entrepreneurship models.


“I have engaged with several stakeholders at the international level, Facebook, Motorola, Ericson, and I am still talking to many more stakeholders. We are encouraging them to come and adopt the respective university campuses as their own.


“I am happy to report that this project is receiving a global boost and endorsement. The committee set up has been working round the clock on the realisation of this objective, and has indeed submitted its final report on Tuesday 18th July 2017. A Vice Chancellor and other senior officials would soon be appointed.


“The ICT University will be a multi-campus institution of the present Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), located in Abuja, Lagos, Enugu, Kano, Asaba, and Yola.”


He said a recent World Bank report revealed that ICT is transforming the world of work, creating new job opportunities and making labour markets more innovative, inclusive and global and accordingly.


It is also influencing employment both as an industry that creates jobs, and as a tool that empowers workers to access new forms of works in new and more flexible ways.


He added that the ICT sector alone contributed N500 billion into the nation’s economy in 2014, and created about 2.5 million jobs in 10 years. The statistics also show that the sector attracted about $30billion of foreign investment from 2003 to 2014.


The minister, therefore, urged Nigerian universities to take a cue from what is happening in the Nigerian ICT ecosystem value chain and put their various faculties on the path of growth and prosperity by leveraging on ICT.


He also promised that government would provide the much needed infrastructure, and favourable policies that would create the enabling environment for young people to innovate unhindered in the various start-ups and innovative centres across Nigeria

Penning a new Rolls-Royce Phantom while maintaining its trademark design is not an easy task, but this rendering might be onto something.


Described as a 2050 model by Matthew Parsons, who posted it on Behance, the CGIs look pretty much spot on, with the instantly recognizable front end dominated by the specific grille and slender headlights, and a dual-tone paintwork.


The artist has drawn inspiration from the brand's Vision Next 100 Concept, which debuted last year to honor the BMW Group's centenary, with its futuristic design, fully autonomous driving, and a zero-emission electric powertrain, as the brand itself said that internal combustion engines are unlikely to survive in the future.


Rolls-Royce won't be waving goodbye to the V12 for now, as the next generation is expected to use a re-worked version of the current 6.75-liter unit. The engine will become more powerful and will also keep up with the times by being more fuel efficient.


Speaking of the new generation Rolls-Royce Phantom, it is believed to be unveiled in 2018, with an evolutionary design, a completely new cabin, and some of BMW's latest driver assistance systems, all of which will make the brand's flagship saloon the preferred chauffeur's drive of choice once again.

Last year I got to check out Sgnl, a wristwatch that subtly vibrates your wrist to send audio through your finger bones and into your ear bones. "Bone conduction," as it's known in the professional literature. It worked, kind of. It wasn't very loud, and the audio wasn't as good as a Bluetooth headset. But I could hear stuff, for sure.


Orii is a new Kickstarter (via Engadget) with a similar idea, but it cuts out the middleman: you wear it as a ring on your finger, so the vibration has a shorter distance to travel.


Of course, putting a ring the size of a Bluetooth headset on your index finger feels like a heavier fashion lift than a watch. I guess, all things considered, the Orii looks as good as you could expect.


That is to say, it looks like somebody glued a Jawbone headset to a ring.

In addition to working for phone calls and private convos with your voice assistant of choice, there's iOS and Android app for Orii where you can customize your notifications, which will flash an LED light on the ring.


Orii has a mere hour of estimated talk-time battery, but 45 hours of standby, so that's something to think about. It's also splash-proof. Before it ships to you (if it ships) you'll get a ring-sizing gauge to choose the correct fit.


The early-bird price is $119, and Orii is supposed to ship in February 2018. We'll see about that! It's from a first-time company, and from the timeline posted on the project page it doesn't look like engineering is final yet.

Is it just me, or has there been something in the air lately that has a lot of people losing their minds?! Seriously, there seems to be an increase in the number of stories about people saying and doing crazy things, and it’s only getting worse.


Welp, y’all, I think this might officially be one of the craziest things I’ve heard all year. And with the number of crazy things that have happened this year, you know that’s really saying something.


A few months ago, a German ‘model’ named Martina Big became the talk of the Internet when her story went viral. In case you missed it, Martina is a white woman who is so obsessed with tanning that she actually wants to become black.


I’m just as confused as you are, and it looks like our girl, Martina, has officially taken it to a new level. Apparently, her ‘transition’ to becoming a black woman is officially complete, and she couldn’t be happier *insert eye roll here*.


We all gotta start somewhere, right? Right. As you can see, Martina was once a blonde haired white woman.

Abby and Brittany Hensel took the world by storm when they appeared on TLC. The conjoined twins have spent most of their lives in the public eye, showing the world how siblings who are conjoined go through with every day tasks.


Abby and Brittany share a body, but have two separate heads and brains. They are completely different people and emphasize they want to be treated as such.


This is the break down of how their body is distributed:

2 heads
2 spines merging at the coccyx and joined at the thorax by sections of ribs. Surgery was employed to correct scoliosis.
2 completely separate spinal cords
2 arms (originally 3, but rudimentary central arm was surgically removed, leaving central shoulder blade in place)

Watching Abby and Brittany grow up through TLC specials, the world saw them go to school, celebrate their birthdays, and even get their driver's license (yes, they each had to pass separately.)

Abby and Brittany's parents contemplated separation, but ultimately decided against it because it was likely one of the twins wouldn't survive.


Their first appearance on TV was in 1996 on The Oprah Winfrey Show. The twins captured everyone's hearts with their upbeat attitudes and positive views on life.


In 2012, their last TLC special aired which ultimately turned into a full-blown TV show for them. Since 2013, however, they have been keeping a relatively low profile.


Now, in 2017, the twins are teaching (together, obviously) at Mounds View elementary school.


It's great to see that Abby and Brittany are able to lead normal lives after being so publicized in their early life!

Crime / Kaduna Arrests Members Of New Terrorist Group by gabonsky: 11:01am On Jul 22, 2017
After a long search and investigation by the Kaduna State Government over the recent threat to peace in the State, the security council in the State have ordered the immediate prosecution of members of a new terrorist group known as Yan Sara-Suka or Yan Shara’are for allegedly causing the death and injury of scores of victims.


No fewer than 40 members of the deadly group were arrested in connection with the possession of dangerous weapons, causing the death of several people in the state, just as some of the members are to be prosecuted for acts of terrorism.


The terror gang was said to be operating in different parts of the state when the long-arm of the law caught up with them.


In a statement issued by the spokesman to the Governor, Samuel Aruwan yesterday, he said: “Kaduna State Security Council has announced the arrest of gangsters suspected of attacking innocent citizens with dangerous weapons.”


The suspects, according to him, were arrested in different locations in Zaria and Kaduna by security operatives.


Aruwan further explained: “The gangsters who are popularly known as Yan Sara-Suka or Yan Shara are to be prosecuted for causing deaths and injuries,” pointing out that “the Security Council also directed that the suspects be charged for illegal possession of weapons, disturbance of public peace, homicide and unlawful assembly.”


He listed the names of those arrested in Tudun Wada and Zaria to include Salisu Abubakar, Kabiru Auwal, Isyaku Ibrahim, Salisu Musa, Shamsudeen Ahmed, Mohammed Ibrahim and Ali Tukur.


In Kabala Doki Area of Kaduna metropolis, those apprehended are Aliyu Auwal, Abba Yusuf, Sadiq Balarabe, Sharif Abdullahi, Mustapha Aliyu, Bashir Ibrahim, Najib Yusuf and Daddy Yusuf. In Kawo area those arrested include Ahmed Abdurasak, Ibrahim Hassan, Abdulsalam Mohammed, Umurana Shuaibu, Mohammed Ibrahim, Hamisu Umar, Sadiq Ismail, Gadafi Yusuf, Hassan Shuaibu, Zailani Magaji, Jibril Idris, Mansur Sani, Ismail Dahiru, Mukailu Yusuf, Sani Nasiru, Aminu Sanusi, Rabiu Musa, Umar Tanimu, Ibrahim Idris, Mohammed Abdurahaman, Mohammed Abdullahi and Shabale Adamu.


Aruwan added that the Security Council also named three persons who would be charged and prosecuted for acts related to terrorism and possession of dangerous weapons as follows, Haruna Usman, Badiya Garba, Saleem Shuaibu and Ashiru Abdullahi.

Nigeria’s army chief has ordered troops fighting insurgents in the country’s northeast to capture the elusive leader of the Boko Haram terror group dead or alive within 40 days.


Boko Haram has been waging a war against the Nigerian state since 2009, using its violent campaign to pursue the establishment of an Islamic caliphate in Nigeria’s northeast.


The group held over 14 local governments at a time. But General Tukur Buratai, Nigeria’s chief of army staff, who oversaw the rein in of the terror group’s activities, wants its leader Abubakar Shekau captured dead or alive.


“The Chief of Army Staff, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, has directed the Theatre Commander, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, to capture Abubakar Shekau, the so-called and self-styled leader of Boko Haram terrorist group, dead or alive,” army spokesperson Sani Usman said in a statement late on Friday.


“The theatre commander has further been directed to do so within 40 days. He is to employ all arsenals at the disposal of the Theatre Command to smoke out Shekau wherever he is hiding in Nigeria,” Usman added.


Last August, the Nigerian military claimed that the Boko Haram leader was seriously wounded in an airstrike which killed many of the group’s commanders. The Nigerian authorities had at different times previously claimed to have killed the terror group’s leader only for those assertions to be debunked by Shekau.


“You have been spreading in the social media that you injured or killed me,” Shekau said in a 40-minute video released on Youtube and dated September 25.


“Oh tyrants, I’m in a happy state, in good health and in safety.”


Apart from having to fight off the onslaughts from the Nigerian and multinational troops, Shekau has had to contend with an internal strife which has left the group factionalised.


In August 2016, the Islamic State group said the son of Boko Haram founder Mohammed Yusuf, Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi, was the new leader of its “West Africa province”. Shekau, who pledged allegiance to IS in March 2015, has maintained he was still in charge.


According to the United Nations, nearly two million people in the northeast region are currently suffering from severe acute malnutrition and 5.5 million are in need of food aid.

The debate over the role robots will play in the future of warfare is one that is taking place right now as the development of automated lethal technology is truly beginning to take shape. Predator drone style combat machines are just the tip of the iceberg for what is to come down the line of lethal weaponry and some are worried that when robots are calling the shots, things could get a little out of hand.


Recently there has been some debate at the U.N. about “killer robots,” with prominent scientists, researchers, and Human rights organizations all warning that this type of technology – lethal tech. that divorces the need for human control – could cause a slew of unintended consequence to the detriment of humanity.


A study conducted the University of British Columbia shows that this type of terminator like weaponry isn’t sitting well with the general public, as an overwhelming majority of people, regardless of country or culture, want a complete ban placed upon any further development of these autonomous systems of war.


Despite the warnings of risk and concern, this is not stopping arms manufacturers from taking warfare into the twilight zone and bringing the futuristic battlefield scenario where A.I. robots and human are fighting with each other, side by side, closer to everyday reality.

Bode and Chioma Davies have 3 children aged 14, 12 and 7. Chioma is expecting their 4th child. The pregnancy has been somewhat challenging, and she has had to give up her job.


Bode works as a Senior Manager in a bank. He is well paid, but their costs are extremely high; they live in a three-bedroom apartment in Lekki Phase I and their children’s school fees runs into millions of naira each year.


Bode’s family is totally dependent on his income, which is already stretched as he also supports his extended family; his parents and two siblings. So, you can imagine the shock when he got to work some weeks ago to find that he had been locked out of the system without warning. He never saw this coming!


For the next two weeks, Bode got dressed and left home every day to go anywhere. He was too embarrassed and distraught to tell Chioma that they would have to move from this apartment as rent was due, the brand new jeep he had leased would be repossessed as he couldn't keep up with the monthly payments, and the children would have to leave their school. Bode lived from month to month and had no savings or investments.


These days the term “job security” has become obsolete and long-term employment is not guaranteed. Job loss ranks as one of life’s most challenging events. It would be so much easier to deal with such events if you are prepared financially by planning ahead for emergencies or unexpected events. But even if you failed to anticipate this sudden change in your circumstances, here are some practical steps to take.



Try to remain positive
Apart from the financial issues associated with job loss, there are usually emotional aspects that are too often ignored. Whether yours was the only position that was cut, or an entire unit or department, the feelings caused by being laid off are largely the same regardless of the circumstances. Many people experience a loss of self-esteem, a sense of failure, and depression after retrenchment. It is important to take your next steps based on clear rational thought, devoid of emotion. Try to remain calm, and do not rush into any major decisions whilst you assess your situation; you need a clear, positive outlook.


What are Your Entitlements?
If you are fortunate enough to receive severance pay or other benefits, use this as a bridge to tide you over the difficult period. Spend carefully, and do not use all of your entitlements to make large payments, such as to pay rent or your mortgage, as you might have to live off that money for an extended period of time. Don’t let such funds lull you into complacency; you need to actively seek a new job or other income-generating opportunities.



Revise Your Budget
Do you have any savings? How long will it last based on your monthly bills? The importance of an emergency fund becomes glaring in situations like this. If you have been able to set aside, say, six months of income in a money market account, you will be able to pay some of your bills and relieve some of the financial stress while you look for a new job.


How best can you adjust your budget to suit your new circumstances? Develop a new written budget that will cover several months based on what you have saved and any expected income. How much will it cost to maintain your family, your home, and your lifestyle? Keep your family members fully in the picture so that they too can adjust their expectations. You will have to control your spending by cutting back drastically on nonessential expenses and seeking cheaper alternatives.


Do you have to continue to live in a neighborhood that you cannot afford? Remember the most expensive school is not necessarily the best. The best school for your children is one that you can afford that gives them a strong basic foundation.


Determine which costs can be eliminated, reduced or deferred. Naturally your priority will be for rent, school fees, food, utility bills. Of major concern would be the lack of access to affordable insurance and appropriate healthcare. Try to avoid your insurance policy lapsing.


Be Cautious About Borrowing
Try to avoid borrowing except where absolutely necessary and only for critically important expenses that cannot be delayed. Taking on additional debt can keep you in denial about your true financial situation and make things worse.


If you are unable to fulfill your financial obligations, such as paying your rent or mortgage or repaying a car loan, contact your lenders immediately, and inform them that you have lost your job and are actively seeking new employment. It may be possible to negotiate new terms and come to an arrangement to adjust your payments for a limited period of time, particularly if you have always maintained a respectable credit standing. It is better to approach them upfront rather than fall behind with your payments. If you default on your home or vehicle loan, your bank will take steps to repossess your property.



Stay Socially Connected
Some people feel embarrassed or inadequate after losing a job. Don’t withdraw; you need your network now more than ever before. Reach out to family, friends, ex-colleagues, church and club members to spread the word that you are in the job market; they may be aware of opportunities for you. Carefully update and circulate your CV.



Seek Alternative Sources of Income
With the current unemployment numbers, you need to cast your net wide; don't pigeonhole yourself into a specific role or job. Be practical and flexible and don't scoff at roles that are “beneath you” or don't align with your credentials, qualifications or experience. Consider temporary or part-time work that will generate income and give you the flexibility to actively pursue a more permanent position.


This might be a time to upgrade your skills if you can afford it and if it would enhance your resume and prospects. It's the time to look critically at your hobbies, talents, skills and passions; they can be converted to a business and offer real possibilities for income.


As difficult as this may sound, try to view this period of unemployment as a positive event, an opportunity to reevaluate your path and potentially change career or start your own business. This may well be the impetus, just what you need to take a fresh look at your life and to redefine your goals. Often, it is times like this that propel people to greater heights.

Disney just announced something that’s potentially so damned cool that I hardly need complete sentences here: Immersive. Star Wars. Hotel.


Details are still super light, but Disney just dropped this bombshell in the middle of its D23 expo down in Los Angeles.


Here’s what we know so far:

All of the employees (or ‘cast members’, in Disney Park lingo) will be in costume and in character
Each guest will get a storyline, which Disney specifically says will “touch every single minute of your day”
It’s meant to take place on a space ship; ‘windows’ will only show space.

The thought is that guests will get to travel on a spaceship and have an adventure that lasts the whole stay “every minute” was the phrase

In other words, it’s… like… Westworld (or, you know, as close as anyone can get) plus Star Wars, minus all the sexy and/or murdery stuff.


The potential here is incredible. I’d be excited about this even if it was just some haphazard third party throwing together a Star Wars-themed weekend. But with the might of an army of Disney Imagineers and Lucasfilm’s own stamp of approval on it? Oh man, oh man, oh man.


Sadly for us Californians, Disney has only mentioned this as coming to Florida’s Walt Disney World thus far. BRB, buying plane tickets to Orlando.
