This is a very good topic. Proprietresses and proprietors use teachers anyhow coz dey know they little or no options. And wen u leave they they can always get another set of teachers to employ.

May God help us.

I don't think this is the same in every state because here in Benin city, it is difficult to get a teacher talk more of using them anyhow. So using them anyhow is out of the question. You disrespect them they leave. If you want to teach, do part time teaching. The holiday lesson is requested by the parents not the school. This issue has been overflogged here on Nairaland. Most parents that go to work don't feel comfortable leaving the kids either with the uncles at home or let the kids roaming in the area so they opt for holiday lesson. In business, when there is a demand, there will be supply.

If you also want me to mention the Uniben areas that such exist, I will mention it. Mind you Uselu market, Technical road, Ekoaodin, Oluku areas areas are regarded as Uniben axis. Well, i noticed Benin city has plenty female landlords than male landlords.

When you even find a male landlord you later learn it is his sisters' house and the sister lives abroad.

You just gave yourself out that you don't know Benin but only came to school in Uniben. There is no place in Benin other than Uniben axis that seems to have more female landlady. I challenge you to mention any other area in Benin city that have female landlady than landlord.

Saying the truth is much easier than solving the reality.
Obaseki really doesn't rate Nigerians to have this level of Audacity to speak this.

since president Tinubu inauguration, Obaseki has never attended NEC meetings to raise his observation and proffer a much better solution but then again, president Tinubu who has been taking measures and counter measures against our failing naira as well as working towards salary improvement is the culprit here.

I beg to ask, Obaseki is the state governor of oil producing edo state that receives a much better allocation than kaduna, can he please tell us what his plans were that failed so badly in the state that made the state has the worst state secondary schools in Nigeria while kaduna is now having one of the best?

Or Obaseki was not amongst the list of governors who hoarded covid 19 palliatives?

Probably election is by the corner and Tinubu is the person to insult to divert attention.

Please don't even go there. The man is a useless governor. During the last state election, they were sharing different cash in government house. I would have want him as a person to state what he has done to reduce unemployment in the state. If his answer is none. Then let's evaluate what he has done to create more unemployment. As I'm writing this the man is considering shutting down some more private businesses around the state. The only businesses that thrive in the state are those owned by himself, Shuaibu, igbinedion and co.

The intention to declare war in Niger has splitted the various African countries, making them take sides. Africa is about to fight itself. Who does that? layuns:
A standard duration for a talk is 45 minutes to 1 hr, often with time for questions and answer at the end.. Even though it can be extended to about 2hrs per person.

You see that bolded part... Whoever told you that was saying rubbish. I studied Education and with my years of experience I can tell you there is a reason curriculum developers don't advise you spend above 45 mins. And that 45 mins is the maximum number you should spend for a lecture as the human mind will need time to digest information and can start going into fatigue if it's extended beyond that. Also that 45 mins is with the assumption that some lectures will be interactive not a one way class. An interactive lecture is a class like English language where the teacher will say a word and the student will repeat or in a maths class or computer class etc. A one way class is one adopted in the church or mosque where the leader or preacher teaches. where the audience is not expected to ask questions or they reserve their questions for later. In such a class, the best timing for a quality lecture is 15 - 30 mins. Anything beyond that, people get tired and some might even leave or walk out.

Fire brigade is when it's two or three weeks to exam and you want to read and pass. This only works if you have applied the method the person I previously quoted earlier talked about.

majesticguy:

It seems you've been cramming and reading, rather than studying.

Try to study.

Read to understand and not just for reading sake.

Relate what you read to real life events and activities.

Jot down points while studying, it helps you recall what you've read.

Some folks read once and never forget, others need to read the same thing multiple times, so as to remember, find out what works for you.

Irrespective of the handouts, material given, try to read further to gain more insight and knowledge on the topic, but make sure the additional information you are gaining falls within the scope of the study materials or handouts.

Revision of what you read the previous day in the wee hours of the following day also helps memory retention.

Look for folks you can revise with after studying, ask them questions on what you don't understand.

Although, the above rarely works for the fire brigade approach.

If you want to adopt the reading for understanding approach, then you should have started from the onset of the semester.

You have given the perfect answer. Any other answer I give now will revolve around what you said. However from the OP question, it appears he needs a fire brigade approach reading. It should be noted however that only those that read to understand can undertake the fire brigade approach reading.

Yorubas are the most tribalistic yet Akabueze, Igbokwe and other non-Yorubas like them got cabinet portfolios in the economic nerve centre of Yorubaland; Lagos..

Yorubas are tribalistic yet Obi an Igbo got votes in Lagos even more than what PBAT and Atiku got..

Yorubas are tribalistic yet Atiku won in Osun state..

The Igbos that are not tribalistic gave PBAT and Atiku less than 5 percent votes in all their tiny 5 South Eastern states.. gave Obi over 95 percent votes because he is Igbo..

The Igbos that are not tribalistic can't point to one non - Igbo (not even Yoruba now, just any other tribe) in their 5 South Eastern States cabinet..

When the Igbo can't subdue you or take what is yours to add to his own, he'll see every wrong in what you do. Those are the kind of beings we have been putting up with in Nigeria.. I before others.

See this is not about writing any epistle. Call any tribe that is neither Igbo or Yoruba and have stayed with both tribe to tell you who is more tribalistic between the two. I have stayed with the Yoruba for more than twenty years and have stayed with the Igbo for five years. The Yorubas are more tribalistic. It's not even a topic for debate. Call any neutral party and sample opinion.

Same way pdp broke up into Lp and nnpp and still tried their luck against an intact Apc and believed they will win the elections .

Shuaibu is already with APC, those that are politicians in Edo State knows this. Infact that is part of the issues between them. Also Obaseki is sympathetic to LP. I won't be surprised if Obeseki sponsores the gubernatorial candidate of LP

nairalanda1:

I was with you until you mentioned Gani Fawehimni.

Gani...who I respect, and who I think was a great Nigerian, ...lost the 2003 election because he was a newspaper candidate. Someone that did not even go round the country...even people like late Dim Ojukwu were all over the country, and was only known on newspapers, and his party has no branch at all in any part of the country....cannot even have a chance of winning any election.

Big parties win because they are all over the place and people know who they are and also know someone who is a member. Yes, rigging, but most places, voting does happen, and people vote for PDP and now APC.

I know who I'm talking with when I hear things like "voting does happen and people vote for PDP". Like seriously... Even if someone like Gani wanted to loose, would it be with those figures he was given? If you were still a kid within 1999 say so. It doesn't take much people to win an election during the 1999 era. Every notable politician knows this. In Edo State, I was aware of the period when only 5 people won the election. During that era politicians don't give a shiit about the voters because they don't need it. What they need is connection. If you are well connected then you get all. To say people were voting for PDP is nonsense. There was a reason for the high voter apathy during that era. During that era, it is difficult to see a well known politician in the queue voting on election day. They are busy strategizing, controlling the movement of thugs from one location to another. Infact some of them will be sleeping at home while Election is ongoing only for them to be declared winner.
If it was a free and fair election Gani will not loose in that manner, even if he wanted to loose.
What is happening today is totally different from what happened in that era. Then I voted in three different states so I know what I'm talking about. I voted in Lagos (Okota), Edo (upper Sokponba) and Delta (Abraka).
You guys should desist from this gaslighting, not all of us are stupid.

Deltans elected a petty thief grin grin grin Nigerians no just get sense. Always electing the worst of the worst criminals and drug addicts. Later you people will complain about visa denials.

Please respect the people of Delta. All over Nigeria, there was nothing like election during the 1999 era. It was just election ballot box snatching and all. In Edo State, I can tell you for a fact that it took 5 persons to win an election. None of them was voted for. That was why someone like the late SAN Ganifawemi lost his election and he couldn't recover the mandate through the court even though we know he was a good lawyer. To start saying Deltans voted for Ibori is a fallacy of the highest order. That been said, compared to other governors in Nigeria, Ibori tried for his people as a governor.

Dimaya:
I am writing this post in response to my initial post that made front page yesterday in which a lady said she won't get pregnant until her husband starts earning over 200K

See here:
https://www.nairaland.com/7729988/girl-wont-get-pregnant-husband/

People's reactions got me thinking heavily because nobody addressed the obvious elephant in the room:

unreasonable civil service salaries

In the original post's video, it was established that Nigerian civil servants starting out with a degree ( level 8 ) earn an average of 75K monthly.

And it takes as much as 15-20 years before they can earn close to 200K monthly.

With the current high cost of living (particularly food, transportation and housing), it seems the government doesn't expect civil servants to be able to support their families on their salaries.

This begs the question: does the Nigerian government pay enough for civil servants to get married?

And also, if you're a married civil servant earning less than 100K, how on earth are you able to meet your obligations today?

How?

the video referenced in the previous post:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t66DkQl0j50

I seriously doubt you stay or reside in Nigeria. If you do then you've been cut off from reality for one reason or the other.

The civil servants you're worried about are actually the middle class in the society in case you've forgotten. If you're bothered about the middle class then what do you have to say about the low class. The poor. I guess we will leave that for another day.

In case you've forgotten, there are graduates who are security men as we speak, some are private school teachers, some are running after moving vehicles just to make daily sales. I'm talking about degree holders. Some even have masters. Let's just leave these matters for another day
