Celebrities › Married Women Don't Need To Go To Abuja For International Passport Change Of Nam by gaeul(op): 8:04pm On Mar 28, 2021 |
After getting all my documents ready for Change of Name (affidavit and Newspaper publication). I made inquires on how to sort my international passport change of name and all the response were Abuja.
That use to be the case but not any more. I was about booking my travel ticket when I just decided to email immigration customer service and the response was fab.
You can now do your change of name at any immigration command in Nigeria. All you need do is to write a letter to the PCO with the reason for name change, then attach ur old passport, ur filled form, affidavit, newspaper publication, your husband's valid identification card and pay the fees.
After submission, then approval by the command's PCO before capturing. After capturing your local immigration command will send to Abuja for confirmation which could take few days to two weeks before your new booklet can be issued.
Some people have wasted their time going to Abuja because of lack of information. I just felt it wise to share. |

Thanks technix: I wouldn't advise that, it's not worth the stress. Moreover you have kids, and birth certificates of kids contain your name and spouse's. Even if one was not married, one could still have claimed common law partner.
Anyway, I am a personal witness. We are in Canada and I didn't advise my wife to change her name. |

Thanks Brendamad: Personally, I don’t think it matters. A lot of people don’t change their names. As long as you have your marriage certificate to prove you are married, then you are good to go. Change of name is a long process that you might not finish in time. I don’t believe it poses any threat to your visa application. |

Thanks a million. Much appreciated Anndav: Yes and No it depends on the visa officer but anybody who is familiar with applicants for Nigeria will wonder why you don't change your name .(visa officer are psychologist)
To avoid unnecessary drama maybe you should change ur name and it must reflect on all documents like bank ,passport, etc that is serious work my dear but it's do able ... |

Health › DNA Test: Also Check To Know If Your Wife's DNA Matches With Your Kids by gaeul(op): 8:59pm On Jan 12, 2021 |
After the FCMB saga, Nigerian men are on a DNA test mission and lots of social media users are advocating secret test. Every man have the right to know if their kids belongs to them or not. Whilst planning for that secret test, it's best to consider your wife before screaming cheating. Make sure you do a DNA test for your wife and the child too eapecially if the child is Male.... Reasons; 1.Some hospital staff swap babies (female for male) at birth. 2. Many Nurses have exchanged babes at birth via mistake or fun as in the case of the Zambia mid wife that confessed to have exchanged thousands of babies in her 15years + career. 3. Some women bought babies without their husband knowledge after long battle with infertility. ..and so many reasons. I wrote a book of how a DNA test ruined a beautiful marriage, and the woman wasn't even the biological mother of the child. Always be totally sure because taking drastic action. An unmatched DNA isn't always the result of Cheating or Adultery. You can make a valid point without being rude.. I honestly don't know why Nigerian trained Dentist are very defensive and can never ever accept constructive criticism..... JBArokonkwo1: There are alot of factors to consider before opting for a root canal treatment. They are 1. Cost: Root canal is not a cheap procedure and after its completion the tooth needs to be crowned(capped). This ideally in a govt hospital cost nothing less than 50k in Nigeria. Also it requires multiple visits. 2. Availability of equipment: Some centers don't have x-ray machines and an ideal root canal treatment requires minimum of four x-rays. This may make it impossible to carry out. 3. Tooth health status: Not all teeth are restorable. Many are badly broken down so much that the prognosis for a root canal treatment may be very poor. 4. Tooth support: the bony support for a tooth may be inadequate to hold a tooth and root canal may not be feasible......
Listen,I am a uniben trained dentist currently working in England and I can tell you I know many of our Nigerian dentists working with the NHS here and doing very well.
Please next time let your brain do the thinking first before engaging ur fingers.....u sound very unintelligent with what u posted. |
Health › Why Do Nigerian Dentists Always Suggest Extraction? by gaeul(op): 1:04pm On Jan 09, 2021 |
I honestly don't know of it's Laziness or what but Nigeria Doctors always go for the last option which is Extraction.
They would rather opt for Extraction and would never suggest root canal treatment, even if a person have removed 4teeths, they will still opt for Extraction.
Most developed country would be happy to do all they can and when there is no way out again before they opt for Extraction. Keeping as much natural teeth as possible is the best, why then do Nigeria dentist always opt for Extraction?
Sadly, if you insist on restorative measures, the will tagged you stubborn patient. Tired much. |

Wow..thanks a million...Most school accept either and GRE is easier to pass... Thanks for the offer too...I am grateful.. Admitwithschola: Ok. Be sure you're taking the right test that is valid for your program of focus. If I remember well, management, strategy, accounting, finance, and others are done at the business school. Verify that it is GRE they need and not GMAT. If it's either, then I'd research which is easier to pass and take that.
I suggest spending 3-4 months, 6 hours per day, if time still permits you, preparing well for the test. Yes it's math and english and writing, but no it's not just math and english and writing.
When you have the solid GRE or GMAT score, with your other documents, reach out to me privately - it's possible for me (if time permits) or someone equally experienced to do 'application strategy' with you. As I told you, with your profile, top 30is/50ish is possible, and your field is very good. You won't find it hard getting a tenure track AP position after 5 years of PhD in the US. AP pay for business school people is also 'atrocious', it's really damn good, and the research budget and exposure are also added perks. So I encourage you to make all the sacrifices required to get admitted into a solid program which will mostly fully fund you.
All the best |

Thank you so much. I appreciate. I have plans to take the GRE but was just following advise here that says we should apply to at least one or two safeties.. Thanks for the detailed information. Much appreciated. Admitwithschola: I just read some of your past posts and it seems you have not taken the GRE or GMAT (in the case of business schools).
My view is that you have a good profile as far as BSc/MSc GPA goes. I strongly believe that you could get into a, yes, very good ranking university in the US if you can get a solid GRE/GMAT score, in addition to your profile and of course exceedingly great recommendation letters. However, if you don't have plans to take this test, then you could search for the schools that have waived standardized tests for this application cycle and apply to them. Yes, also search for safeties.
But, given my experience, I just strongly believe your profile is good/very good and with a strong GRE/GMAT score and other things, you could hit top 50 program, even top 30, in your area. And yes, I said it. |

Thank you so much for your time and response. I will sure check the link. Thanks once again...I am very grateful... pdjohnson: Hi, so sorry I'm not very used to commenting on nairaland. I think my second post which was meant to be the original one was deleted by nairaland or someone, I'm not sure about that. And thus the comment you quoted was actually incomplete.
To answer your question, I'm not very familiar with trends in the humanities and management sciences, I think you made mention of management sciences somewhere here! Why not do a little research of your own, first you might want to start with https://www.thegradcafe.com/ visit Gradcafe and then do a search, inputting the program you'd love to study, you'll get lists of institutions offering it, the acceptances and rejections and sometimes comments on whether or not they offered funding and stuff. I believe funding is almost always guaranteed in good PhD programs.
I'd encourage you to select programs with PIs conducting research you might be interested in rather than selecting programs based off of ranking. Also do select safeties!
Also reach out to PIs only when you have thoroughly read and understood their papers, and even at that, at best they might still refer you to the application portal. But on rare and exceptionl occasions a PI might want to schedule a one on one interview.
I also saw that you asked a question somewhere about contacting PIs and stuff. Please now that PhD admissions in the US is often different from that in the UK. For example in the US, you often do not require a masters to do PhD, but this is not quite true in the UK. In the UK, often times you need to have found a PIs, but this is 'not necessary' in the US. Thus you do not necessarily need to contact PIs in the US. Nonetheless, I'd encourage you to contact a PI especially if you feel you might be a good fit in his/her lab. Moreover a few programs in the US e.g programs that do not require group rotations might require you to contact a PI.
I hope this helps, cheers! |

Thank you so much for this detailed information and clarification. I am truly grateful. Please any school suggestions? I would really appreciate. pdjohnson: Hi, I sincerely hope this might be of help to you. For PhD application, the GRE could be a requirement for some programs (remember that you apply to programs and not the university) but within the same university some other programs might not require it. for example, for over a decade, the UIUC CS program which is often ranked top 6 according to the US news have not required the GRE test (the UIUC program is one of the most competitive programs with an acceptance rate of less than 5percent) . This is not often the case say in the Psy.D program at UIUC. The Harvard GSAS PhD. biomolecules track clearly states that they do not require the GRE test) but this might not be the same at Harvard CS. PhD. Yale BBS PhD program do not require the GRE test but this 'might' not be the case at say Yale EE PhD program and so on. In fact tons of programs have waived the GRE requirement, because from experience the GRE test has not proven to be an indication of success in graduate school (with specific reference to PhD programs). PhD Programs that do require the GRE do not use it as a determinant of admission but rather as a filter to reduce the number of applications required for faculties (professors) to peruse. (n/b this is not often the case in an MSc. A lot of schools do solely admit students with funding into Ms programs based off of stellar GRE scores). What you've to offer (research experience, interest) becomes more important for PhD admissions. In fact Professor Jeff Erickson at UIUC said that a letter of recommendation documenting a student's research adeptness is the most important factor used in admission decisions in PhD programs and this has been corroborated by many professors at several programs.
Are these programs fully funded? yes! Technically, most (if not all) PhD programs in the STEM at high research intensive programs (R1 universities) are fully funded, so you don't have to worry about whether or not taking the GRE will affect your chances of funding.
Should one take the GRE test whether or not it's required by the program? Well it's not necessarily |
