Forget that talk bro, u never see anything devaluation happened around 2013/2012 oil tank what happened to market? Same repeated in 2015/2016 what happened to the market? Go and research that too an assignment for u. They will only manage the falling till they are done. Book mark this.

You are still not getting the point. Nigeria has never had a true float despite having policies and frameworks in place to float the currency.

This is the first time that they are attempting to test this waters. If you read the CBN press release, you will see this implementation is based on a 2017 policy that was never implemented.

Anyways, do what is right for you.

Joke apart for those who cares to listen those guys that have been accumulating all thse while this is the time for them to offload and they will be managing so the price don't drop any how so don't be deceived ooo much offers coming na pump and dump. Let me add this with the weak price of oil we are going back to where we started the race

And if they offload, what will they buy with the money?

You don't seem to understand what is already happening in the economy.

This float announced by the govt yesterday is going to lead to a serious devaluation of the naira in the short-term until FPIs are convinced that the government is sincere and not like Buhari.

then the inflow of dollars will be massive and most will go into stocks.

Assignment for you: Go and research the effect of devaluation on stock price and the best asset class to hold in the face of impending hyperinflation.

I just read a bit of the floating news on Bloomberg terminal, though they still didn't say its confirmed.

I am awaiting CBN confirmation and refreshing their site by the minute.

Once confirmed, you wont see any stock on the floor as MSCI and everyone that ran away will rush back.

Unfortunately, that might not happen in the near future. I have been following NB's trading pattern for a while and there is something obviously going on in that company.

What it is, I do not know yet. But I suspect that the company is silently buying back the bonus shares it recently listed from the market and I might be wrong.

I also noticed that nobody is saying anything about the company (no single broker or analyst recommendation), which is a perfect cover to complete any wayo buyback in peace before announcement.

Finally, this company was just in the market a few months ago to sell CPs and yet they declared dividends afterwards. This doesn't add up, as what a company facing working capital shortage would do in the case would be to retain the earnings recorded and explain to shareholders (instead of borrowing), which leaves so much to questions as per what that CP money is to be used for. Could it be that Heineken wants to increase their control, I don't know. Are they thinking of repeating champion breweries, it is possible.

I dived in here when I saw the anomaly in trading pattern (with an unusual daily trade of 28million shares on one occasion for a stock that only does less than a million daily on a normal basis) and I am willing to wait for as long as it takes for them to reveal what is going on. If I turn out to be wrong, I take my loss and move.

THIS IS NOT A BUY RECOMMENDATION AND I COMPLETELY ADVISE THAT NO ONE FOLLOWS MY POST AS THEIR REASON TO BUY NB. DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE AS YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR TRADES.

The journey has begun!

Politics / Nigeria Defaults In Debt Repayment To China by GANDALF1(m): 1:32pm On Apr 19, 2023
Step one of total economic collapse activated.

•Penalties stand at N41. 31bn

Nigeria has failed to service its debt to China which has accumulated to N110.31 billion in the last two years. According to report by the Debt Management Office (DMO), the China debt stock included the principal and repayment charges.

DMO said that from January 2021 to December 2022, the principal fee stood at N69, 009,417,500 ($153.85million), while the interest charges amounted to the sum of N41, 311,455,000 ($92.1million). The debts were incurred following the completion of the Nigeria Railway Modernisation Project (Idu-Kaduna Section), the Nigeria Railway Modernisation Project (Lagos-Ibadan Section) and the Nigeria Abuja Light Rail Project.

A breakdown of the data showed that in 2021, Idu-Kaduna Section’s principal fee was $ 38.46 million (N17.25bn) while interest earmarked is $ 9.5 million (N4.26bn). The Lagos-Ibadan section’s principal was not noted, although its interest stood at $ 24.07 million (N10.80bn).

During the period, the Abuja Light Rail Project had its principal amount at $38.46 million (N17.25bn), while the interest rate accumulated to $11.45 million (N5.14bn).

As at 2022, the principal on Idu-Kaduna Section was $38.46 million (N17.25bn), while the interest fee was $8.52 million (N3.82bn). The Lagos-Ibadan Section interest fee stood the highest at $ 28.06 million (N12.59bn) with the principal amount not indicated. The Abuja Light Rail Project principal was $38.46 million (N17.25bn), with accumulated interest charges of $10.48 million (N4.70bn).

The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has been able to generate the sum N11, 606,737,070 in two years despite not being able to service its N41.31bn debt. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said the sector realised N5,570,998,908 as revenue which fell by N464,739,254 compared to the N6,035,738,162 generated in 2021. In 2021, railway services generated revenue of N5, 697,512,095 from passengers, with goods realizing the sum of N299, 805,884 and other income receipts earmarked N38,420,183. However, 2022 revenue indicated that N4,546,342,056 came from passengers, N416,856,190 was realised from goods and N607,800,662 was generated from other income. This indicated that while revenue generated from passengers fell in 2022, the goods and other income increased in productivity. The NRC had earlier disclosed that Insecurity is impeding the growth of rail services in Nigeria.

Bro, this stock and other brewers needs to fall below pandemic price before they can rise again based on the kind of results they have been shelling out.

So buying now isn't a good advice. IBrew nerds to fall towards 1.20 to 1.50 range. Others in the same sector needs to revisit the pandemic low based on their results of late. It is unfortunate though, but truth needs to be told.

Unfortunately, that might not happen in the near future. I have been following NB's trading pattern for a while and there is something obviously going on in that company.

Ur two dates are 1month apart not two days??

Closure date is not really a finance term and only exists in markets like Nigeria where analog processes never go out of fashion grin

Where markets are fully digitized, once you buy a stock, your name automatically enters the register of shareholders and any thing that happens after that day affects you. If a proxy is sent out the next day, you will get it. Same with dividends grin

But one smart dude in the Nigerian space thought of taking a few days to open the stockholders register and reconcile the names there against NSE’s/CSCS’s record and it became a thing.

In summary, as long as you held the stock the next day after the qualification date (originally known as ex-dividend date) you will get the dividend even if they decide to close and reconcile the books in 1 year time grin

My take is:

1. Do not borrow money to invest
2. Search for company with Good fundamentals over the years
3. Research the company for future developments
4. Time your entry ( buy when the stock starts to advance)
5. Time your exit.

From my experience if you buy good company at almost the turn of the year you always make a decent gain before the results and if the result is good you are in for good money.

For now I buy Dangote Sugar. ( cheap, market leader, good dividends over the years, great future plans)
Please let know what others are buying and simple reasons?

Incase you are not aware, there are more than 5 NSEMPA WhatsApp groups where the members discuss and strategize on stocks before announcing it here.
So no one is going to tell you the stocks they are buying until they have gotten their fill and are ready to dump on you.
