AutosPre- And Post- Cat (catalytic Converter) Bosch Oxygen Sensor For Benz 2001 W203 by Gangsta101(op): 9:30am On May 16, 2012
Hello guys,

Please does anyone know a good shop in Nigeria where i can order the O2 sensors for my w203 2001 c class benz, as well as a Mass Air flow Meter. i reside in Maiduguri and don't want to wait several weeks for its arrival because of possible damage to the catalytic converter from persistent usage.

I guess i didn't really give you enough info.
1. you can use usb to rs232 cable, then attach a 'normal' rs232 cable. if it isn't crossed (which i expect it isn't) in order for you to cross it, you have to go back through the nairaland pages to find a post by baba egun ( i think ) about which colours to cut and cross.
2. the most usual causes of corrupeted files are a.) Bad usb device, a chinese made flash drive which cannot handle large data will copy wrongly and cause problems. b.) Viruses, though less common, they are possible, i believe you made reference to a false mp3 file, its possible you have a virus that alters you file. u will of course have to upgrade or change your antivirus. there is one from microsoft, i believe its called microsoft essential security, its good and lightweight.
1. Usb still remains the easiest way to upgrade, nothing like the best. a wrong file will still cause problems if you load it via rs232. its just that once it is bricked, that is the only way you can go.

Keep us posted on how it goes. cheers
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Gangsta101(m): 2:28pm On Sep 24, 2011
Auchs,

Your technician is most definitely right. The stb file was corrupted during the transfer process and you loaded the corrupted file, which of course corrupted the decoder. The good news is that you can reload the software via rs232 crossed cable from the laptop or another set top box and you are good to go.
Also, next time, be careful about using the word 'fried'. usually it brings the image of permanent electrical damage usually from a high voltage spike. this is software related and is easily fixed (i believe the word used for failed firmware updates is 'bricked'). google rs232c cable transfer and see if you can find anything.

All,

the concept of collective responsibility dictates that we should play an active role in preserving that which is ours, to protect that which we feel  belongs to us. so the truth is talking is done, its time we take active measures in keeping this thread alive. if someone posts an offending message on this thread, we could click on the report to moderator button underneath the post, this should call the attention of the moderator to that post and maybe he can delete it or ask the poster to modify. We should sanitise our thread ourselves.

SO WHY WERE PEOPLE STOPPING US FROM POSTING THINGS RELATING TO DONGLE, CLINE ETC.
IF WE ARE FREE TO POST ANYTHING WE LIKE ON THIS THREAD AS LONG AS IT IS RELATED TO SATELLITE TECHNOLOGY, THEN I WILL BE THE HAPPIEST PERSON HERE.
The problem with cline and dongle is that they use a technology known as cardsharing to transmit info to open encrypted channels, now this infringes on the intellectual property of the broadcaster and thus they are ILLEGAL. freely disseminating information about them here makes it look like this thread is supporting the technology. the broadcasters can't close us down directly, but they can complain to the NCC or whichever arm or gov't is in charge and it is the entire nairaland website that will be shutdown, and Seun will not like it one bit, and neither will you, me or all the kings horses. there are other websites that are less restricted about issues like these, they have servers that are located where no gov't can touch them, so they are free to do whatever they like, i'm sure you can find them if you need to.

As for the part of your post that directly relates to me, well,

Hi Sophieamore,

Its really a lot easier to talk (or Type) rudely to a person on the internet than face to face, most likely because you can't see the person u are addressing, infact, it takes a lot of courage to be civil on the net, even when u think a person may have offended you. But its not cool to use rude language at everyone who disagrees with you, and really i don't think the thread is such a bad place, yes a lot of people who used to post here regularly in the past have move over to the other side, but there are still a lot of people for whom this thread is still relevant. there are a lot of people who were here before i came on board, Oga Twinstaiye still moderates this thread, that means he takes his time to read every single post no matter how boring or not so cool the post might be, and he has been here almost for page 1, F_Marshal, Enitan, Olofofo, Bodejohn, George, just to mention a few, they still come in here and make a post once in a while, they don't need anyone to tell them how to track a bird, or what LNB to use or to what angle should you skew to get a bird, Naa, they just love to hang out here, help someone who needs a pointer and move on.
Also there are those who are just discovering the wonderful world of Satellite television, they search a satellite related topic on google and they get directed here and to them, this is more than an encyclopedia.
so what if theres nothing interesting that catches your attention, it does not mean it isn't worth its salt anymore, also you could go out and look for something to liven it up once in a while

Finally, be friendly, i just might be your next door neighbour for all you know.

Wow, Thunder still de strike people dish, after all the campaign by George, F_Marshal and so many others to get people to use lightening arrestors, the last less than a month agohuh

Well, you could try disconnecting the wire from the LNB for starters and see, sometimes when there is a short in the cable from the diseqc/lnb, it shows that 8888, if thats not the case, you would have to get it to a repairer.

Cheers man
@edey2real,
There are many factors that could cause a dish not to pick signals as expected. The first and foremost is the dish mould. If the mould is not good, then your dish parabola will not be perfect hence leading to poor signal reception. Since yours is an old dish we assume it was working perfectly when it was new. So, that brings us to the refurbishment job that you did. If you didn't fix the foil properly, your dish reception will be poor. Next is the focal point. Assuming you did a good refurbishment job but you didn't adjust the focal length properly, your dish will still not perform properly.
Edey2real,

I have been thinking about your problem and i remembered i had a similar issue about 2 years ago, when i got to Maiduguri, i already had a 1.8m dish, which i used to track hotbird, but i wanted another one to serve as a motorized dish. someone offered me one, which he had used before, but had been lying dormat for sometime. when i brought it over and installed, the results i was getting were strange. nss7 and w3a were as high as could be expected (close to 97% for nss7), but nothing for nilesat, although there was a particular TP for nilesat back in those days which had a high signal strength for west Africa, i could get that TP only as high as 71%, but others just wouldn't turn green (i remember that tp had to be as high as 75% before the others would appear).

So i studied the dish for a while and discovered that even though the LNB was more or less at the focal point, its line of sight was not directly in line with the middle of the dish, but was pointed away from the centre to one side, so the reason why i could get nss7 et.al, was because the tilt made the dish to function as an offset dish, the effective diameter was therefore less than 1.8m (probably 1m from my estimation), the dish was so old and tampered with that one or two of the arms supporting the LNB had twisted making the lnb to tilt away from true centre. what i did was to remove all three arms, put them next to each other, i saw the one that was bent and i straightened it, made sure they all had a similar appearance, before connecting the LNB back, and VOILA, my dish was good to go.

So my suggestion to you is this. Calculate the focal length, let say its about 1m, then get a thin but straight and piece of metal or plastic rod that is just less than that length, by a few cm, put it at the centre of the dish (you would have to place the dish on the ground with the bowl facing up, or if it has an adjustable tripod, drop it so the bowl faces directly upwards, then put your straight rod to be at the centre of the dish to serve as the focal length, now if you know how many cm short of the focal length you cut your rod, you'll be able to know if the LNB is at the right length, also if one of the supporting arms is bent, you'll be able to see if the LNb is pointed away from true centre.

All the best.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Echolink Receivers Thread by Gangsta101(m): 7:55am On Apr 11, 2010
hello guys,
my echolink has always had one bug or another since i have had it. it used to have diminishing signal strength, so u might be watching cnn on nile and it will start cracking, and you.ll have to switch to another channel on a different TP, and switch back to get it to go away. but recently that has stopped, only to be replaced by a problem with the volume. it might start cracking or disappear altogether and u.cannot hear anything again. sometimes taking the volume all.the way up helps to restore it, sometimes it doesnt. Doess anyone else experience this, and what could be the possible solution?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Mtn Xtrapro Renewal, what For? by Gangsta101(m): 7:27am On Apr 11, 2010
silly MTN, the way they got people to switch over was by getting us all to do 'April fools' with ourselves. It seemed 'not so legal' but who can complain? they usually say only greedy people can be duped, and most of us who.switched over got a text saying something about ', if u want to make some money,, if u want extra credit, ' e.t.c. I was really mad with them cos that nonsense MGM was staged. so instead of going mad and destroying their towers (haba! because of N500 ) i'll do the next best thing, browse as much as possible and not feel bad. (like i wasn't doin that already).

If you check up page 2 of the previous thread, u will see where dvbguy attached his regex.txt and skynet.ini files. those were what i downloaded. cos after installing mine. it wasn't working well, so i just used his and voila, i was downloading. initially, i had to copy out the PIDs you guys posted and manually enter them by editing my regex file. but i really need to get my PIDscanner to work so i can check out the data services on nss7, their signal strength is higher so/maybe i can get betterdownloads from.them.

Bodejohn
what prog are u using for fishing. i am using skynet. my signal strength for the TP 12728 is less than 75% so i still get a lot of breaks in my downloads. also i had to loop.the lnb via the decoder because a direct connection gives me 5% less signal strength. also my pidscanner isnt working so i cant try out othee sats yet infact i am only able to.download now by manually inputting the pids you guys posted in the previous thread. gow about you, have you tried out other sats?

No probs. will do that right away.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Offline Downloading by Gangsta101(m): 6:43am On Apr 04, 2010
Actually internet via satellite is quite common in some places. anyone interested can do a google search of nairaland, Nash-FTA once posted something to that effect. there are services from skylogic which are easy.to install and quite cheap. But another way to access the internet via satellite is to use the satellite for downlink and a regular phone line or gprs connection for the uplink. this is not so bad if your uploads are not so.much and gives u great access to very high download speeds. the downside is that you pay two sets of subscription fees to your two providers.
BUT, (and i only mention this to be silent about it forever on THIS thread).A few persons have claimed to be able to browse without  cost using this setup and a dvbs card (great card by the way). i neva got around to trying it out though, because i was free in the yellow way, but the info is out there for anyone interested.

Oga Twins,
2 days back, i posted a response to George,s question. i came in yesterday and didnt see it again, i thot it was a temp glitch, but its still not here so i'm wondering what happened?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Offline Downloading by Gangsta101(m): 2:34am On Apr 01, 2010
well George let me explain the benefit.
First of all one isn.t truly downloading. what the setup.does for u is to filter through what other people who use that particular satellite internet provider are currently downloading and "catch" it for you.
now that might not sound useful but consider this. most of us here in s/saharan africa have very nonsense internet access speed. lets say a movie comes out. e.g AVATAR. you would like to download from rapidshare or wherever. only problem is that it will take u 3 - 6 days. now someone in russia has fast access via w3a, he can wrap up his download in 3 - 5hours. it wouldn't then be a bad thing to tag along, would it? Thats why its called fishing, u cast ur net for a few hours and see what u can reel in.
sha its not really that simple, if your signal strength isn't at least 80%, then u will experience breakage of signals at irregular intervals which may make the movie unwatchable. also u may end up with a huge pile of junk e.g porn, and other stuff. truthfully, i haven't ever gotten a full movie, but i think it is cause of my setup.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Offline Downloading by Gangsta101(m): 11:04am On Mar 30, 2010
offline downloading is truly a cool aspect of FTA which most people are not into yet. its major limitation is hardware. u need fairly steady signals and a dvb s card or box. when next i sit on my laptop i will give out details of my experience.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by Gangsta101(m): 9:44am On Mar 29, 2010
Tox baba,

Take am easy oh.

Oga moderator,

i have a recommendation to make. i have noticed a lot of people complaining they cannot get this bird or that bird, even DTH birds like w3a. and i think it is because they have never witnessed an installation and seen the little things that make the difference between getting the bird and getting frustrated. so i recommend we open a new thread, and name it "Upcoming Satellite Installation". anyone who is planning an installation should post the date, time and location. also the type of satellite he is planning to track and other details that would help other members to reach him. the aim of this is so that anyone who is interested and is close to that location can come over and witness it. especially those in Lagos and Abuja.
lets say i want to install nilesat in kaduna, i have arranged with the installer to come over on sunday at 4.00pm, i would then make a post on the thread detailing the above. so that anyone interested can come over and witness. the only other posts allowed would be those of people interested in witnessing it.
i would have opened the thread myself, but i am having problems posting from my phone.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by Gangsta101(m): 9:09am On Mar 24, 2010
Freshp and Venus,

You guys have got to be kidding me, you mean you re-copied a long post by George, which is right next to the one you are posting, just to add a one line response? com'on guys, you are just unnecessarily increasing the lenght of the thread. next time it is better to just make a reference to the post instead of copying everything, the reason for the insert quote thingy is to highlight what you want to say, just in case someone else is having trouble finding it, but when what you are highlighting is right next to your post, it amounts to abuse of the tool.

George,

a few pages back you and someone else were discussing something on LNB skew, the guy said he knew the skew for dstv was supposed to be at 3 oclock position, but he saw a neighbours hitv skewed to 9 o clock and wanted clarification, and you blamed it on the installer doing it all wrong (or something like that). I just wanted to clarify that briefly, you see, when one is tweaking the lnb to achieve maximum signal strenght, lets say i want to track nilesat, and the skew for my location was at the 4 oclock position, that is the point at which i would have maximum signal strength at almost tps. now lets say i continue skewing, at 5 oclock the signal will drop and will probably disappear at 6 o clock position, and if i continue, it will reappear at 8 oclock and be at the same maximum strength at 10 o clock, a clock position directly opposite to the usual 4 o clock position. what i am trying to say is that for lnb skew those tiny metals intercept the beam at the right angle it the position listed as its skew angle, and also at the position directly opposite that (180 degrees), while it is at the least at 90 degrees to it. you can see this phenomenon best with very strong beams like dth beams like nss7, and intelsat 7/10, where when you continue skewing, the signal drops but does not necessarily disappear even when you are 90 degrees to the expected skew position. cheers bro.

Ejike

At the rate at which those hitv guys are harassing everybody, very soon, they will start lobbying the FG to make the installation of BUDs illegal in Nigeria, like it is done in the UK. I know they can't stop people buying these cards, and they can't stop people using decoders to crack channels, so the next thing, they will start looking at how they can reduce reception of out or footprint birds.
all these paytv channels are the same. when dstv had the right, they stopped all the cable tv channels from broadcasting football, fought with rdv until they scrambled up, and generally made life terrible for football fans. now HITV can't force nilesat to reduce their signal strenght, so their minds will start wandering about to see how to proceed next.
FTA people, let us all be vigilant, cos a bad tide is blowing from the south.

i congratulate u guys on your really massive achievement, but just like Nash-FTA, I have to go a step further and ask questions relating to its reproducibity. WHAT is the financial implication of this sort of installation? How did u get the dish, was it an old one you bought off someone, or a newly fabricated one, the size of the jack and other things another copycat might need to know before dreaming of moving on to something like this.

Yes Bro, i can also see the signs. We always seem to have at least one Every season, though seasons one and two were the most explosive, but then again, this is Nairaland isn't it

With respect to fixed V motorised, the truth is if you can have both, it definitely is worth it. I presently reside at Maiduguri, where i probably receive some of the strongest signals for european/mid eastern out-of-footprint birds, but my motorized setup could not get very good nilesat signals across all TP's, so i have a fixed dish, pointed at nilesat, with attachments for Nss7, sirius 4, and w3a, so i can get a steady signal on those birds while always fighting the tough Maiduguri winds with my Motorised setup (which i have taken down by the way, preparing to install it somewhere else).
so like all arguments which involve which side of the egg to break (Lillipudian battle in Gulliver's Travel), Everything has its merits. so look at the one that is best for you/your pocket and run with it, but if you can, while not got for both.

Dejsam/Abracadabra users.

I have installed every new update since 11th (i think), but have not been able to get ART/JSC, not even the cas updates of 15th and 19th (najmsat), is anyone having better luck than me, and/or any suggestions to get past this?

Hello,

Earlier this Year, I or some other one of your Friends probably sent you a message wishing You a Happy New Year.
Now I’ve got no idea how this year went for you, whether you managed to get around to doing all those stuff you set out to do, or whether it just ended up being another Year in the Life of YOU.
Later today, or probable tomorrow, I, or some other one of your Friends will send you a message wishing you a Happy New Year again.
But then again, this year isn’t quite over yet, we’ve got ourselves a few hours to go,
Before 2009 is no more.
Enough time for you to fly a kite, sing a song,
have a drink, or a couple more,
do a dance, make a friend,
whatever,
just go out of your way
to have yourself a Merry Old Year,
Today.
Cos after that, you are stuck with 2010, no way back.
so please make the best of today.
