Let’s keep the mathematics simple.

Wike is a political actor in Rivers State. He cannot personally go into all 36 states and deliver their votes. Whatever political influence he has in Rivers is one part of a national presidential election.

Nigeria has 36 states plus the FCT, and the presidential election is conducted as a nationwide contest. The Constitution also requires a candidate to obtain the prescribed spread of votes across at least two-thirds of the states and the FCT.

So, if Wike helps deliver Rivers, fine Rivers is one state. But there are still 35 other states and the FCT where other political structures, governors, party leaders and voters matter.

Nobody should confuse influence in one state with control of a presidential election.

At the end of the day, Tinubu has to build a national coalition and win enough votes across Nigeria. If that means securing Rivers while performing strongly elsewhere, that is simply how presidential arithmetic works.

Rivers is important, but Rivers is not Nigeria. One man cannot personally deliver 36 states. The mathematics is actually very simple.

So, according to the figures, 8,563,135 votes came from outside Rivers State.

Does that mean Wike’s contribution should not be acknowledged? Of course not. But does it mean his contribution was so extraordinary that it should overshadow everyone else who delivered votes for APC across the country? The figures alone certainly don't establish that.

Many states delivered substantially more APC votes than Rivers, including Lagos (572,606), Kano (517,341), Katsina (482,283), Oyo (449,884), Jigawa (421,390), Kaduna (399,293), Niger (375,183), Ondo (369,924), Osun (343,945), Ogun (341,554), Bauchi (316,694), and Benue (310,468).

So if we are going to discuss “electoral value,” let us discuss the complete figures not just one state as though the other 35 states were merely spectators.

And honestly, if every person who contributed votes to the APC victory decided to go on television every other day to announce their contribution, Nigerians would need a full-time calculator just to keep up with the self-congratulation. 😂

At some point, we have to stop treating 231,591 votes like they were the parting of the Red Sea. Rivers contributed, yes but Nigeria is bigger than Rivers, and the 2023 presidential result was produced by votes from across the country.

The numbers are available. Let the numbers speak. The microphone does not make 231,591 votes become 8 million. 😂

So, what exactly is so extraordinary about Wike’s electoral value that we must hear about it on television every other day? If every governor whose state delivered a higher APC vote decided to come on live TV and boast about it, would we ever have peace? 😂

And let’s not confuse winning the presidential election in a state with winning every election in that state. Rivers has its own political dynamics, just as other states do. The 2023 presidential result and the subsequent governorship contest are separate electoral events.

Wike in an interview weeks ago, reiterated a frosty relationship between the APC Govs Chair (Uzodinma) and the Governors Forum Chairman (Abdulrazaq). over the Rainbow Coalition.
