A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has raised concerns over the recent killings in Plateau State, warning that continued violence in Nigeria could have implications for diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United States.

Moore made the comments following reports of deadly attacks in Plateau State, particularly incidents involving civilians during religious gatherings. According to him, the pattern of repeated violence is worrying and requires urgent attention from Nigerian authorities.

In his remarks shared on social media platform X, the lawmaker called on the Nigerian government to strengthen security measures to protect citizens, especially in vulnerable communities where attacks have been reported in recent months.

He also suggested that failure to address the insecurity could affect how the United States engages with Nigeria on diplomatic and strategic matters.

Plateau State, as well as nearby regions like Kaduna State, have experienced recurring incidents of violence, leading to concerns from both local residents and international observers. Calls have continued for improved security response and long-term solutions to the ongoing crisis.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, fired an early and decisive shot.

In a blunt and characteristically combative declaration, the former governor ruled out any possibility of backing his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, for a second term.

Wike spoke during a pre-convention meeting with some Rivers APC delegates at his Abuja residence, where he made it clear that no pressure, inducement or political manoeuvring would make him repeat what he described as the “mistake” of 2023.

Quashing speculations about a possible reconciliation or future alliance, Wike said he had learned hard lessons from his decision to support Fubara’s emergence as governor and would not be swayed again.

He said: “No amount of blackmail, no amount of intimidation will make me repeat the same mistake I made before.

“If anybody is bringing money to you, it is your business. I don’t know how long I will live on this earth, but I will not make that mistake again.”

The minister, who has repeatedly expressed regret over his role in Fubara’s emergence, blamed the current political crisis in Rivers on what he described as betrayal and ingratitude.

The once-close political allies have since fallen out, plunging the state into prolonged instability marked by factional battles and institutional tensions.

Wike also issued a stern warning to politicians allegedly using his name to advance their governorship ambitions ahead of 2027.

He cautioned that such individuals were acting on their own and should not drag him into their political calculations.

He said: “Don’t go and entangle yourself with anybody saying he wants to run for governorship.

“Some people are parading themselves, forming groups – Ijaw groups, Ogoni groups, Ikwerre groups – using my name. Continue to group yourselves, but I see all of you and I’m marking you.”

He urged members of his political family to remain cautious, safeguard their resources and avoid being misled by opportunistic politicians.

Wike declared: “My fight is not an easy one. I don’t need to win, but I will make sure that before you come out, there is no remedy. So be careful. Hold your money and pray for God to choose you.”

Taking a swipe at those allegedly funding online campaigns against him, Wike maintained that he was unfazed by opposition and even thrived in political battles.

He said: “If you want to fight me, it is okay. Without a fight, I can’t survive.

“But I want somebody who, when he leaves office, will still appreciate those who helped him, not someone who will bring in new people to fight us.”

The minister also praised members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, for what he described as their resilience and loyalty.

According to him, the lawmakers chose to endure hardship, including going without salaries, rather than betray their political convictions.

Shortly after Wike’s remarks, Bomah Iyaye distanced himself from reports suggesting he had declared interest in the governorship race or secured the minister’s endorsement.

In a statement, Iyaye described the reports as inaccurate and misleading, insisting that he remained focused on his responsibilities at the NDDC.

“My attention has been drawn to reports circulating on social media suggesting that I have declared an ambition for the office of Governor of Rivers State and have been endorsed by the Honourable Minister,” he said. “These reports are not true and do not reflect my position.”

He clarified that he had neither made any formal declaration nor received endorsement from Wike or any other political figure.

“I remain fully committed to my duties as Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the NDDC, working with stakeholders to advance sustainable development in the Niger Delta,” he added.

Also, uncertainty continues to surround Governor Fubara’s political future, particularly regarding his intention to seek a second term.

His silence has fueled speculation that he may have shelved re-election plans.

However, a source close to the governor dismissed such claims, saying Fubara would soon make his position known.

The aide, who spoke in confidence, maintained that Fubara remained a strong political force in the state and enjoyed considerable goodwill within the APC’s national leadership.

According to the source, the governor is still being considered a viable candidate to fly the party’s flag in 2027, despite the ongoing rift with his predecessor.
Good for him, but power is not permanent God is the ultimate authority. History has shown us that influence can change over time. Even someone like James Ibori once had significant influence despite his situation, but today things are different.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that politicians who defect from their parties will not be allowed to rely on President Bola Tinubu’s achievements to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.

Wike made this assertion during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention, where he delivered a strongly worded address targeting defectors and political opportunism ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Wike Warns Against Political Opportunism

Speaking to party faithful and delegates, the former Rivers State governor criticized politicians who switch parties for personal gain, insisting that such individuals cannot take credit for the achievements of an administration they were not loyal to.

According to him, the 2027 elections will test credibility and performance, not opportunistic alignment.

“No defector will be allowed to campaign on the achievements of President Tinubu to win election in 2027,” Wike said.

His remarks signal a broader warning to politicians who may be considering strategic defections ahead of the elections.

‘Show Your Report Card’

Wike reiterated that the next general elections would be driven by accountability, emphasizing that voters would demand tangible results from political leaders.

He described the 2027 race as “operation show your report card,” stressing that only those with verifiable achievements would earn the trust of Nigerians.

“If you have nothing to show, nobody will cover you,” he added.

Criticism of Defectors

The FCT Minister also took aim at politicians who previously benefited from the PDP but left during internal crises, accusing them of lacking leadership qualities.

He argued that true leadership requires resilience and commitment, especially during challenging periods.

“These are people who used the platform when it suited them, but ran away when issues arose,” Wike stated.

Implications for 2027 Elections

Wike’s comments highlight growing political tension ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly around party loyalty, performance, and credibility.

His stance suggests that political narratives built around achievements.

Call for Internal Unity

Despite his strong criticism, Wike urged members of the PDP to remain united and focused on rebuilding the party.

He encouraged aggrieved members to return and contribute to efforts aimed at repositioning the PDP as a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Says Reconciliation Efforts Will Continue After National Convention,l

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that the National Convention of the People’s Democratic Party scheduled for March 29 and 30 will go ahead as planned, saying efforts at reconciling with aggrieved members will continue after the convention.

The Minister, who also said that the PDP will shock Nigerians by using the 2027 general elections to show its strength, dismissed the appeal filed at the Supreme Court by the Tanimu Turaki group, noting that it has no effect on the convention.

Speaking after inspecting the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, the convention venue in Abuja, on Friday night, the Minister explained that reconciliation is a continuous process.

He was accompanied by Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC), Mohammed Abdulrahman, National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and other members of the NCWC, as well as Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche and others.

The Minister emphasized that the convention will proceed, while efforts to resolve internal disputes will continue afterwards.

“There is room for accommodation. The PDP is a very large party. Look at the umbrella, it is wide enough to accommodate everyone.

"I have always said that in any group, there will be grievances. You cannot expect that in a family of two or three people, everyone will always be satisfied let alone a party with millions of members. There will always be a few who are not happy. We have agreed to sit down with them, understand their concerns, and see how we can accommodate them. What is most important is the overall interest of the party.”

On the zoning arrangement, the Minister confirmed that positions have already been allocated across regions.

“We have already zoned our positions. Every zone has its own slots. The presidency has been zoned to the South, while the chairmanship is zoned to the North. We believe this consensus arrangement will make the process easier.

"For the first time, the PDP is presenting a unified front, rather than the usual ‘unity list’ that often reflects internal divisions. There are no factions everyone has agreed on the direction we are taking.”

The Minister also addressed the level of preparedness for the convention, saying; "We are fully prepared. This visit is to assess final arrangements. As I said, we are about 95 percent ready, and by tomorrow, everything will be set.

"Seating arrangements for all states have been completed, and the VIP section is ready. We do not expect more than 2,500 delegates.”

The convention is scheduled to hold on Sunday, March 29, and Monday, March 30.

The Oyo State Government has fixed April 3rd for the coronation of the Senator representing Oyo South senatorial district, Sarafadeen Alli as a crown wearing high chief.

This move, OYOINSIGHT.COM, understands is part of the intrigues for the 2027 gubernatorial elections in the state.

According to the Ibadan chieftaincy law, crown wearing chiefs in the Olubadan-in-council are not allowed to openly participate in partisan politics. This indicates that Ali’s promotion will halt his bid to run for the 2027 gubernatorial seat in the state.

The statement fixing the conferment of the new chiefs, signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, read in part: “I have the directive to refer to Your Majesty’s correspondence ref. no L/ADV/Co/1242/843 dated 23rd March, 2026 in respect of the above and to inform Your Majesty that while making arrangement for the compilation of the High Chiefs and Baales who are due for beaded crown wearing in Ibadanland as requested, it is traditionally necessary and very essential at this point in time that the newly elevated Chiefs in Olubadan-in-Council i.e

APC Begins National Convention Tomorrow – Information Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has restated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is fully ready for its 8th National Convention, scheduled to hold in Abuja this weekend

Speaking at a world media briefing on Thursday in Abuja, Idris said all arrangements have been concluded to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible exercise.

He explained that the convention theme, “Unity in Progress, Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects the APC’s commitment to unity, continuity and national development.

He noted that it also reinforces alignment between the party’s internal structure and the broader governance vision of the country.

Idris said the APC has continued to demonstrate maturity and resilience in managing leadership transitions in an orderly manner, describing the upcoming convention as another test of the party’s democratic strength and organisational discipline.

He also emphasized that the gathering would provide an opportunity to showcase the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and further deepen the Renewed Hope Agenda within the party’s framework.

The Minister assured Nigerians and the international community that the convention would be conducted in line with high democratic standards, stressing that the APC remains committed to unity, inclusion, and purposeful leadership.

According to him, the event will bring together over 8,000 delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for policy discussions, leadership elections, and the emergence of new party executives.

The convention is expected to hold at the Eagle Square, Abuja from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28, 2026 with party leaders expressing confidence in a peaceful and successful outcome.
