With which experience exactly? This is the problem. You see what Umahi is doing gradually building a political career and creating a platform for his son. At least, one can point to political exposure, mentorship, and experience being built over time.

Why didn’t Tinubu follow a similar path with his own son if the intention was for him to eventually take on such a major political role? Leadership, especially at the highest level, should not simply be handed over because of family connections. There should be a clear record of experience, public service, competence, and political capacity.

Nigeria is too important for anyone to be presented with leadership responsibilities simply because of who their father is.

They say they cannot pay salaries, yet there is always money available to steal. Is that what we have now accepted as part of the job of public officials?

The truth is that the amount of public money lost through corruption, inflated contracts, misappropriation, and outright theft is more than enough to pay workers' salaries, improve infrastructure, provide basic services, and fund other critical responsibilities of government.

So why should we celebrate a government for doing what it is constitutionally and morally obligated to do? Paying workers their salaries is not an achievement; it is a basic responsibility of government.

A state cannot claim that it has no money to pay its workers while public resources are being wasted or diverted into private pockets. The real achievement would be a government that manages public funds transparently, eliminates waste and corruption, pays salaries promptly, improves workers' welfare, and delivers quality services to the people.

We must stop lowering the standard of governance to the point where doing the bare minimum is presented as an achievement. Nigerians deserve accountability, responsible leadership and value for every naira of public money.

A government that can find money for waste and corruption should be able to find money to pay the people who work for it.
