Politics › Re: The Origin Of The Lekki Refinery by gare(f): 1:09pm On Sep 06, 2024
naptu2:
The origin of the Lekki refinery

I have heard talk that the government wanted to build a seaport in the Lekki area since the 1980s. I also heard talk that the government wanted to build an airport in the Lekki area since the early 1990s (at that time some people were debating about whether the noise from planes would disturb people that lived in Lekki Phase 1. They didn't realise how big Lekki was).

However, all this talk was just that, talk. Nothing concrete was done about these ideas, in fact, the government did not even make public announcements about them, they were more like rumours among people that were close to government.

Nothing concrete was done until Bola Tinubu became governor of Lagos in 1999.

The Tinubu Administration proposed a free trade zone in the Lekki area. It would have a deep sea port, an airport, a refinery, a metro rail line, new residential estates, its own power plant, etc. Governor Tinubu travelled to China to attract investors to the project and most of the companies that were involved in building and running most of the industries and facilities at the free trade zone were from China.

But NNPCL went to buy the entire product from Dangote. Why not buy and let others buy?

NNPCL woke up and changed her pump price overnight with no prior notice to Nigerians...

This completely contradicts the so called “market forces” when NNPC still has the monopoly of product supply even from Dangote. There’s nothing like free market here..

Who is deceiving who?

Kai!
Dont mind them, they ony think of what will benefit them, all governmrnt policies is only for the benefit of them the rich, do the minister pay for PMS or diesel ? i dont think so how would he know what people are passing through

The moment Nigerian government started issues of palliatives as a means of poverty alleviation scheme, I knew we have lost it.

Palliatives are only shared as an emergency scheme to meet people's essentials during Natural disasters, wars, or hazardous events and not when a nation's economy is shrinking.

You adjust policies to raise economy, not share palliatives. If not for unreasonable individuals, who else will even believe Tinubu can rule this nation when his campaign moments were filled with gaffes and public scandals here and there?
At what point is all this looting and sharing of the nations resources stop, we the poeple need to rise up against it, it can't conitnue like this, we need leaders that would put the people first and cut down on expenses. if not forget any policies it would not work

Following the commencement of petrol production at Dangote refinery, billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has warned depot owners that it might be wise to sell their depots for scrap before the market shifts.

Sell your depots as scraps before it's too late, Otedola tells depot owners
Femi Otedola congratulates Aliko Dangote on petrol production at $20 billion refinery.
Otedola praises Dangote for ending Nigeria's dependence on foreign powers for fuel supply.
The project has been hailed as a transformative force for Nigeria and the energy sector in sub-Saharan Africa.

He made this statement while congratulating his associate, Aliko Dangote, on the successful launch of petrol production at his $20 billion refinery.

In a letter posted on his official X handle, he pointed out that while the Kaduna and Port Harcourt refineries have remained inactive and their promises unmet despite billions spent on so-called turnaround maintenance, Dangote has achieved what many believed was impossible.

Otedola stated that with petrol now being produced by the Dangote Refinery, the era of Nigeria depending on foreign powers for its fuel supply has come to an end.

What Otedola said:
"I am reminded of the time you revolutionized the cement industry in Nigeria. Ships that once brought in cement turned into rusting relics, scraps of a bygone era. Now, with your refinery in full swing, I foresee a similar fate for fuel imports,"

"The depot owners should take heed—it’s time to dismantle those depots and sell them as scraps while the market is still high. The world has changed, and those who do not adapt will be left behind,"

"You have beaten all the skeptics, silenced the naysayers, and proved wrong those who doubted your resolve, even those who never wanted this project to succeed,"

“You have dealt a death blow to the so-called local cabals who have fattened themselves for years, feeding off our nation’s economic slavery. These cabals, who have grown rich by keeping Nigeria in a perpetual state of dependence, must now face the reality that their era of easy gains is coming to an end,” he stated.

The business mogul also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support and belief in realizing this monumental achievement during his administration.

The long-awaited refinery has been hailed as a transformative force for Nigeria and the energy sector across sub-Saharan Africa. The refinery's fuel production and sale is expected to significantly ease Nigeria's foreign exchange burdens, and halt petrol shortages.

that is the truth, but a very hard bitter pill to swallow and most of then have not completed payments of loans collected to build the depots, it is well

I don't think you need anyone to fill your application form or"travel experts"".
I think one has to be very careful while filling your forms and cross check be4 d final submission.
Some of these agents sometimes compound your issues by giving wrong advice or fake documents and at the end of the day it comes around to bite the applicant. By then , the damage has been done.
Just be truthful and filled your application form with all sincerity
That my own opinion.
well said, it all about the truth

Mr. President,

I want to share a small gossip with you sir. Nigerians are rich and they are just pretending. #1k a liter is not enough for our government to deliver needed infrastructure and social amenities to the people. If you increase the gasoline price to #5,000, Nigerians will buy and still pay extra 10% tax on all income. grin grin

Every government Nigerians ever had works to make life simple for the people, but our government is doing everything possible to generate revenue instead of making life easy. Remember this is Nigeria, Africa and not France or Western Countries.

Your excellency, I doubt you will have chance to campaign when 2027 comes unless you increase gasoline price to #5,000. Thanks.
