President Goodluck Jonathan has had a mixed campaign so far. He’s received criticism and praise for his administration in the last five years. Will he win this election? A commentator on electoral issues, Adedayo Ademuwagun, has compiled a list of 18 states where Jonathan might lose the polls, and why. The big day is now just three weeks from now and things are shaping up already. The people rooting for President Jonathan are keenly looking forward to March 28 and anticipating a victory for him. However, there are some states where the president might lose this election based on recent history and the sociopolitical circumstances in those states. Here are 18 states where this might happen. 1. Niger Niger is the only state in the north central that Jonathan lost in 2011. He won the other states in the zone. Niger’s mainly Muslim population might be a difficulty for Jonathan again this time. 2. Yobe Buhari has the upper hand in Yobe and the rest of the north east. Last time Jonathan lost heavily to Buhari in this state. Buhari will likely sweep the votes here this month. It’s a core Muslim state. 3. Gombe Jonathan lost Gombe to Buhari too in 2011. He probably doesn’t have much chance here this year either. The Muslim majority in the state isn’t leaning in his direction. 4. Borno Borno has largely been a war zone for some time now. Boko Haram seized parts of the state and imposed a great deal of terror here. The people will probably not be voting for the president because of the way he’s handled the fight against insurgency in their area. Buhari will probably win it here. 5. Bauchi It was an easy win for Buhari in Bauchi last time where he pocketed 82% of the votes. Jonathan almost certainly has no chance of winning in Bauchi this year or in any state in the north east for that matter. 6. Zamfara Zamfara is a core Muslim state in the north west. Buhari is king here as he is in the rest of the north west. Last time he cleanly swept this zone and Jonathan lost in all the states including Zamfara. This zone is Jonathan’s worst nightmare. 7. Sokoto Here’s another mainly Muslim state that will be hard for Jonathan to win. He lost here last time even though the PDP runs things in the state. It’s not likely he can turn around the situation this year. 8. Kebbi Buhari defeated Jonathan in Kebbi state in 2011. He’s apparently going to win it here again this time. Jonathan’s popularity in the area hasn’t improved pretty much in the last four years. 9. Katsina This is where Buhari comes from. His victory in this state is indisputable. 10. Kano Kano is another stronghold of Buhari. It was a walkover for him here in the last election. Now the APC is also in charge in Kano. Jonathan barely has a chance in this state. 11. Kaduna Jonathan narrowly lost to Buhari here in 2011 even though the state has a Muslim majority. It’s another state where he might lose this month. However, the state is PDP. 12. Jigawa Buhari beat Jonathan in Jigawa last year and is a lot more popular than the president in this state. But Jonathan might still draw the votes given his party is in charge in the state. 13. Rivers The governor Rotimi Amaechi is one of Jonathan’s principal enemy and he’s Buhari’s campaign chief. Jonathan knocked out Buhari completely the last time, but this time the APC have the momentum and the equation has changed. 14. Imo Buhari’s party runs the government in this Igbo state and the governor Rochas Okorocha is highly popular among the masses. He can and will probably influence the voters here in favour of his party’s candidate. A Jonathan victory here is uncertain. 15. Oyo Jonathan packed the most votes in the west last time, but things have since changed with the APC merger. Now the west is rooting for Buhari, and Oyo is no exception. Jonathan’s popularity has greatly dipped among the Yorubas. 16. Osun Even last time when Jonathan won in other Yoruba states, he lost in this one. The governor Rauf Aregbesola is so popular in the state and he’s definitely campaigning for his party, the APC. Jonathan virtually has no chance of winning here. 17. Ogun Ogun is obviously leaning towards Buhari and the APC like the other Yoruba states. Jonathan hasn’t got a strong enough following here to challenge the APC. 18. Lagos Protesters will predictably pour out on the streets of Lagos if Jonathan happens to win there. He’s the least popular candidate on the ballot among the Lagos people. He beat Buhari in this city the last time, but now it’s a lot harder for him to repeat that feat in this election. |

Nigerian boxing legend Bash Ali was arrested on Wednesday Feb. 11th in front of a bank in Abuja for constituting public nuisance. He was locked u and charged to court for the offense. Despite meeting his bail conditions at a court hearing yesterday, Mr Ali has refused to leave jail in protest for his arrest and detention. A Wuse Zone 6 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja on Wednesday fixed April 2 for hearing in the criminal case brought against Nigerian boxer, Bash Ali, and four other accused persons. Meanwhile Bash Ali has refused to leave jail despite meeting bail conditions. The four others are Gabriel Ikyowe; Timothy Ugbede; Daniel Otoski and Jones Ebele. They were arraigned by the police on Feb. 19 on a six- count charge of joint act of abetment, criminal trespass, and obstruction in public way. They were also charge with criminal trespass, causing obstruction in public way, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation. The prosecuting police officer, Sgt. Bulus Samuel said the charges contravened the provisions of sections 79, 85, 348, 194, 256, and 397(b) of the Penal Code. When case was first mentioned on Feb. 19, all the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Magistrate subsequently granted them bail in the sum of N1 million each with one surety each who must be a civil servant not below salary GL 10. According to the Magistrate, the sureties must be reliable, resident within the court jurisdiction and must swear an affidavit to substantiate reliable means of livelihood. Bello adjourned the matter for hearing to March 4, adding the sureties, who must be civil servants, must produce their first appointment letter and their last promotion letter. At the resumption of hearing on Wednesday, the Principal Witness 1, Mr Bisong Peter, told the court that he and some of NEXIM Bank workers were assaulted by the accused persons. Peter is the Chief Security Officer to NEXIM Bank. He said this under cross examination led by counsel to the accused persons, Mr Anthony Agbolahan. According to him, Ali, his colleagues and others now at large, disrupted NEXIM Bank operations by preventing workers and customers from entering the premises during their protest on Feb. 18. “Ali called himself a suicide bomber and claimed that he was coming to bomb the bank. “As a security agent, my colleagues and I have to be on alert. “They came on a protest carrying placard with all kinds of inscriptions against corruption; we stopped them but they were still able to gain entry into the premises. “When they were disturbing and making noise, we called the police who later came to our rescue. “Ali had visited NEXIM Bank several times but am not aware the purpose of his visits,’’ Peter said. He, however, said that during one of such visits, he had a meeting with the bank’s management and later left in anger”. Defence counsel, Mr Anthony Agbolahan, however asked Peter whether he was aware that Ali and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) were planning a boxing championship. When the witness answered in the negative, the defence lawyer told the court that Ali and his team visited the bank in connection with the championship. Agbolahan also sought from the CSO whether Ali and other attacked the bank’s Managing Director, to which the witness also answered in the negative. Witness also admitted that Ali had had a meeting with the management before but that Ali left the meeting in “anger” Senior Magistrate, Habiba Bello, having listened to the parties adjourned the case till April 2 for continuation hearing. The military, yesterday, explained why it suggested that the election dates be shifted, clarifying that its advice had no political undertone. According to the military, the reason for its suggestion for a shift was to enable it take delivery of the long awaited weapons with which to tackle terrorists in the North eastern part of the country. “I do not want to bring politics into it, whoever wants to bring politics into what we are doing, it’s left for him. I want whoever is saying that to know that war machines are not picked up from the shelf, if it were, we would have got them,” Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh said while receiving drugs and other items worth over N70 million donated by the Association of Pharmaceutical Importers of Nigeria (APIN), to assist the Nigerian Armed Forces in the war against Boko Haram insurgency. “When you make orders, it takes time to produce and it takes time also to train on them. So, we did not place the orders today, we had placed orders before now and when they started coming, we asked for more time to combat the insurgents before the elections. I can guarantee you that there is no politics in the demand for shift in date, it is just because we were receiving the equipment.” Badeh urged Nigerians to support the military, as this would ensure victory against the sect. “Part of the overall strategy of tackling insecurity is to build synergy with the civil populace, especially for support and vigilance in reporting the activities of suspicious elements and the movements of insurgents. “This is borne out of our strong conviction that the war against insurgents is not a war for the armed forces alone. As I have always said, when the military is at war, it is not the military alone that is at war, rather it is the entire nation. “Accordingly, all instrument of national power, ranging from diplomatic, informational, military to economic are employed to ensure that threats to national security are contained and defeated.” The CDS commended APIN and other companies who earlier made similar donations to the military. He said such gesture was a clear demonstration of concern and support for the military in the ongoing war against terrorists, despite antics of some unpatriotic persons. |
Months after the seperation of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the founder of Christ Embassy Church and his wife Pastor Anita, the estranged couple have reportedly shared their two children. While Sharon, the eldest, prefers Pastor Chris, Charlene is presently with Anita. Anita had last year April approached a London court, seeking a divorce on the grounds of adultery among several allegations. The suit, number FDI 4001650, was filed on her behalf by Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors on April 9, 2014 at the Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, United Kingdom. Pastor Chris was served the divorce letters in his hotel room during one of his visits to the UK. Efforts to reach the camp of Pastor Chris last night proved abortive. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, had then denied the allegations leveled against him by Anita and even threatened to sue media houses for damaging his name and Church. Last September, a statement by his counsel, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), described the allegation as “wicked and malicious”, and an attempt to bring Pastor Chris “to public opprobrium and ridicule.” Pinheiro said the adultery allegation “currently circulating in the media was nothing but a complete distortion of facts in the pending proceedings in the United Kingdom”. The lawyer warned media establishments to verify the authenticity of their stories before publication, saying his counsel would take appropriate legal actions against them to protect Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s reputation and that of the church. |

Mavin Records artist Korede Bello has won the heart of many with his hit singles ‘Cold Outside’ and ‘God Win’. In an interview with Nation Newspaper, Korede Bello talks about his rise to fame, signing with Mavin Records, support from his parents and much more. Read excerpts from his interview below! On being in the music industry: No, I have never thought of that. And funny enough, I have always wanted to be a footballer or an accountant. I didn’t really see music as a career. Actually, I saw it as a passion and a hobby. I didn’t know I was going to do music professionally until recently, during my secondary school days. I go to the studio doing recording seriously. I started seeing music as my life purpose. I see it as an opportunity to serve humanity. On being called an upcoming act: When somebody goes to school and is in primary one, will you call the person upcoming student? Or when you just get a job in the bank will you be called an upcoming banker? But for me I will say people are entitled to whatever title they choose to give artistes, but it depends on the artiste; ‘how you see yourself.’ I see myself as a musician, I see myself as a mega super star and that is all that matters. I will advise artistes not to go along with that upcoming title because you might just remain upcoming forever. So you had better see yourself as a musician and a servant to humanity. Is there upcoming pastor? If there is none, why upcoming artiste? On his signature wink: I don’t know. I just find myself doing it. And there is someone I have in mind whenever I do it. I know pretty much that a particular person I know will be watching it. And that is why I keep doing it. If anyone wants to find out who the person is, I will just say it is you. Whenever you watch me winking in any musical video, I’m winking at you yourself. Trust me. On his greatest achievement so far: My greatest achievement is to be glorifying God with my song. I recently released a new single called Godwin, and it is being received massively globally and that is my greatest achievement. Whenever people are happily dancing to my song, it really makes me happy. You know, to be able to do a song that the old, and young would be able to listen to and dance to but still be able to glorify God really goes a long way. I am very proud of that and it’s really overwhelming |

In an interview with City People magazine this week, Flavour said despite the fact that he has a babymama, Sandra Okagbue, who he welcomed a daughter with in September 2014, he is still a single man and searching for love. He said there’s no woman in his life at the moment “Yes though I have a baby mama, I am still single and searching. Not that I wouldn’t want to get married one day, I will definitely get married but I don’t have the time to settle down for marriage now. I am all over the place pursuing my career. I will want to give my family attention and the best when I finally decide to settle down as my parents gave me. My family raised me up by monitoring my activities so I will like to do same for my family. But that is not my priority now because I need more time to plan for that and I need to pursue my career first” he told City People. |
