with u on this one my bro. I dnt thinks the maint required light is set to any mileage. There's a system in d car dat detects when the oil no longer has its required viscosity and thats when the light comes on. Check this .....I was using milemaster 5w20 and about 2500 miles the maint required light came on, when I switched to Mobil 1 5w30 the maint required light only comes on when I have exceeded 5000 miles or more.

so you created a viscosity/oil ware sensor in the engine?

Hope you have insurance? It's the fastest selling car in nigeria at the moment.

Dear Nairalanders,

I was discussing with my friend last week and he told me of how his neighbour's Honda CRV 2008 model was stolen in front of his house in Garki, Abuja, few minutes after it was parked. I was shocked because I never imagined that high tech car theft could hit Nigeria so soon. This prompted me to search the internet about this and I was shocked that it has been common in Europe and America for a while now. In fact, David Beckham had his two Custom designed BMW X5 cars stolen from his home.

This has gotten me really scared, coming from my experience of car theft in 2010 in Abuja in which my Honda Accord 1998 model was stolen from church. Thankfully, the car was recovered after 48hrs using the tracker I had installed in it. I currently drive a 2010 Honda Accord v6 and up till now, I had this unshakable belief that the car could not be stolen. However, i am now considering buying a pedal lock to add to the tracker installed.

Guys, kindly share your experiences with any high tech thefts you know so that we can learn. I don't mean cars which were snatched oh! We need to be more security conscious these days as boys are not smiling.

The 08 crv was stolen with a copy of the original key, no high tech bla bla involved.

Your car is safe, most thieves don't like the v6 versions cause it's harder to sell.

If you want an unstealeble car buy a peugeot.

There are a lot of sounds for different conditions, try and record sound and upload here so we can listen or describe better.

If you are in lagos come for a free diagnosis of the sound and interpretation of the failing part.

Start with 0w-40 or any xx-40 if it does not short then stick with it.

I use micking full synthetic oil from automedics where l have been buying my oil. The mileage is 108000.
I have not experience any shortage cos I service the car every 4500 miles since I bought it 3 years ago

OP switch to a thicker grade of engine oil e.g 0w-40(mobil 1) easily found in any petrol station.

Remove your thermostat and test, check for failing fans. Check for a dirty condenser.

Next is after a wash.

Bumper had to be removed to access it properly.

I may need to replace a 2004 accord engine that smokes(only above 4rpm)and shorts oil although its very fine under 110kmh limits and never with A.C.

The odds that you will geat an engine in pristine conditions are slim when it comes to Nigerian used engines.

3 when I pressed the brake on highway the steering vibrate though the owner side has gone can it cause the vibration on the steering wheel?
4 there is winning or like griding noise under the car when am moving slowly but when I summ off nothing of such is there anything to check or its normal pls help me out

Unfortunately not good for the engine.

Quarts 7000 in nigeria is 15w50 and to thick, it will gradually wear out the cam shafts and cause a rattling noise when engine is cold started.

I scanned as requested, the reading showed many codes (0171,0174, 0300, 0302, 0304), like something wrong around the MASS AIR flow and lean cylinders...

Let me know your diagnosis and how I can get it to you for fixing ASAP

300,302,304 cylinder misfires. Replace all sparkplugs.

171,174 system too lean bank1 and 2

Is your vehicle 6cylinder?

Start by replacing all spark plugs.

A very vague description of vehicle type. Please narrow it down to make/type and year of production.


P.s my kia Rio 2007 air conditioning is much cooler than my 2013 IX35.
