History of oil exploration The history of oil exploration in Nigeria started back in1903 when Nigerian Bitumen Corporation conducted exploratory work in the country; at the onset of World War I the firm's operations were stopped. Due to the lack of technological and financial resources of small oil companies, large oil companies took over the exploration of commercial oil in the country. Thereafter, licenses were given to D'Arcy Exploration Company and Whitehall Petroleum but neither company found oil of commercial value and they returned their licenses in 1923.[5] A new license covering 920,000 square kilometres (357,000 square miles) was given to Shell D'arcy Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, a consortium of Shell and British Petroleum (then known as Anglo-Iranian). The company began exploratory work in 1937. The association was granted license to explore oil all over the territory of Nigeria but the acreage allotted to the company in the original license was reduced in 1951 and then between 1955 and 1957. Drilling activities started in 1951 with the first test well drilled in Owerri area. Oil was discovered in non-commercial quantities at Akata, near Eket in 1953.[5] Prior to the Akata find, the company had spent around £6 million on exploratory activities in the country. In the pursuit of commercially available petroleum, Shell-BP found oil in Oloibiri, Nigeria, in 1956. Other important oil wells discovered during the period were Afam and Bomu in Ogoni territory. Production of crude oil began in 1957, and in 1960 a total of 847,000 tonnes of crude oil was exported. Towards the end of the 1950s, non-British firms were granted license to explore for oil: Mobil in 1955, Tenneco in 1960, Gulf Oil and later Chevron in 1961, Agip in 1962, and Elf in 1962. Prior to the discovery of oil, Nigeria (like many other African countries) strongly relied on agricultural exports to other countries to supply their economy. Many Nigerians thought the developers were looking for palm oil.[6] But after nearly 50 years searching for oil in the country, Shell-BP discovered oil at Oloibiri in the Niger Delta. The first oil field began production in 1958.[7] After that, the economy of Nigeria should have seemingly experienced a strong increase. However, competition for the profits from oil created a great level of terror and conflict for those living in the region. Many citizens of Nigeria believe that they have not been able to see the economic benefits of oil companies in the state. Additionally, Nigerian government officials have remained majority shareholders in the profits created by the production of Nigerian oil, leading to government capturing of nearly all oil production, and citizens are not seeing socioeconomic benefits, and insist that oil companies should compensate people.[6] visit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum_industry_in_Nigeria#History_of_oil_exploration read more |
Hi, How much can I get a Pontiac Vibe 2003-2005 with full duty. |
Actually I recently bought a tokunbo of that shoe for $15,000 so you can imagine how much a new one would cost. ![]() |
Very impressive action from my governor, Ambode, looking forward to more that and even stiffer penalties. |
In my opinion, this just reaffirm that GEJ really take the people of this country for granted, otherwise how can you handover a country at a dinner party? |
LRNZH:Please note that it was GEJ that influenced Jega to change it in the 2011 elections. http://www.nigeriancuriosity.com/2010/08/nigerias-new-electoral-act-election.html |
Try not to drink at least 3 hours before going to bed. If you are not sure of lasting up to 3 hours before going to bed, the eat bread or cabin biscuit. (the size of you fist should be ok). If you do dream that you are in the rest room to pee, only to start feeling that you are wet and then you wake-up... you need to take control of that dream, and here is what you do: 1. At the point of lying down to sleep, picture the rest room in your mind. 2. Take note of the position of each 3 objects at least, e.g the sink, water closet and may be the mirror. 3. Tell yourself look out for these objects whenever you are in there. And that you can pee only when they are confirmed present. Else its not real. The logic behind this is that place/person/object dreams are not perfect replica of reality. Once you are able to establish in your dream that its not real, you will wake up. And when you do wake and get to the rest room, re-confirm this objects. else you need to wake up again. You will need to consciously do this before going to sleep for 30 to 40 days at least. After which you will be able to do it subconsciously. Speaking from experience... having tried so many advice given to me while growing up, I was able to come up with this which finally worked when I was 23-24 years old I think. Good luck. |
doctokwus:Gbam! You nailed it. |
Very true, card readers failed across many polling units in the country, but in my opinion, those three (3) card reader failures were staged because I believe that card readers and backups designated for the president's polling unit would have be tested and retested to confirm they are OK, and so also are the staffs. I hope the truth about this would come out some day. He is only humble in defeat, but he did everything possible to retain power and the above is one of them. His statesmanship is indeed a great legacy and his greatest. However I wish this does not make him escape justice when he is found wanting should his administration be probed. |
He who fails to heed advises makes strong warning inevitable. When OBJ was advising GEJ, he refuse to pay attention and his supporters backed him saying OBJ only wanted to control him from his Otta farm. Then OBJ warned him to the acceptance of defeat when it comes, he now behaved. Only a kid does this. Unfortunately its too late for GEJ, because he is surely full of regrets now. |
Impressive, but not good enough. Total registered voters in Kano is 5,135,415. So casting 2,128,367 votes is not just good enough considering Kano's strategic position in this "game". Really, I expected more. |
This would be possible only if the card reader operates online, but I think voters accreditation is offline, i.e the reader is pre-loaded with voters data of the polling unit its meant for. And probably requires online communication for submission of result only. So if this Jammer gist is true, there is virtually no damage that can be done. |
Him contesting for governorship in Lagos is stepping out of bound, even if he speaks the language fluently. Is Lagos short of their own who can lead them? He clearly doesn't know where he belongs. |
The school principal is hale and hearty. Got this from a reliable source in Katsina. May he live long and fulfill all the good he desire. |
Hausa Ajami is not only removed, but its interpretation has been pushed to the bottom of the list, cause it use to be at the top. Ordering is normally done alphabetically, i.e ascending (Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba) or descending (Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa). But the new 100 Naira note has the order of its translation as (Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa), now what order or whose agenda is that? |
This is GEJ @ work, and he is fighting dirty cause its clear that the opposition is gaining good attention of the populace. Well, he will need to do better to change minds, but that would be a herculean task for him. |
Actually, it looks like he is signing a condolence register. |
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan vowed Saturday to hunt down those behind the “heinous” attack.I have heard you saying this since 2011, I think you need to remix now. “From all indications, they (attackers) have been planning this for at least two months,” Sanusi said in Hausa, the dominant language in northern Nigeria.Truly, the man talks much but sensible most of the times. So I do not believe this lyrics. Does anyone know where I can listen to the rhythm. It being in Hausa is no problem. |
Well, its OK to put aside differences and work together against what is perceived as a common threat. That is the characteristic of a survivor, of which by my judgement, OBJ is one. Its what I expect of APC and PDP. May God steer us in the right direction. |
only1God: “… Any information on sighting the crescent (of Shawwal) should be conveyed to the National Moonsighting Committee so that the President-General of the NSCIA, His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, may pronounce the end of fasting,” Mr. Oloyede had said.Professor Is-haq Oloyede, in his argument is right, He however missed the fact that in Islam, the day starts just before the morning prayer... i.e about 4:30AM in Lagos and not 12:00AM as in the Western Calendar. If he adds this to his argument, I am sure he will agree with the Sultan. Anyway for me... Its Sallah! |

The charge is N8750. I completed the payment using pay4me option which comes with extra charge- transaction charge N300 and Service charge N175. So I made a total payment of N9225 in a bank. I finally decided to take a walk to the customary court in my area and as I entered the court room, I was greeted by one I assume to be a court clerk. He asked of how he can help me. Having told him, collected the forms and took it to the Magistrate (I assume) and later came back to say that I have to pay N700, but only N250 would reflect on my receipt. I tried negotiating but to no avail. So I gave him the money and 10 minutes later, he came back with my form signed, stamped and also with the Lagos state treasury receipt. |
