PoliticsRe: Nigeria’s Oil Revenue Drops By 42% by Gbawe: 10:24am On Aug 24, 2013
Pukkah: Oil accounts for a major share of Nigeria's revenue. The figure should be close to 90% of total revenue.

If Nigeria can't secure that important source from thieves and vandals, in spite of increasing budget for security, then there is a major problem.

If they can't do this right, then what can they get right? What do they see as important? Or do they lack the capacity?
The "major problem" is Jonathan. This is why , under him, increased budgeted spending to combat specific problem only deliver greater failure. He has his own plans which are diametrically opposite to what will bring progress for Nigeria.

It is no coincidence oil theft is at its highest level for a while after a President took what appears to be the insane decision that pipeline protection contracts be handed over to militants. Yet wise people know it is not an insane decision. Rather, it is a calculated and deliberate one similar to granting marketers licence, when an election win had to be financed, to individual who had no business getting such. Inevitably the biggest invoices ever were submitted for "fuel importation".

This monumental oil theft is just the revelation of what cynically brazen behaviour wanted to achieve, as an ulterior motive, when marketers licence were handed out to scammers and a nation with a functional Navy decides to put the Fox in charge of the Chicken coop via handing pipeline protection contracts to militants.

Have you noticed that major problems, the ones holding Nigeria back, keeps getting worse under GEJ?

otokx: Why did they not site the project in the Niger Delta? Is it not from the Niger Delta that the gas will come from?
Read the article. This is not about "site" choice and you should not make it about that. It is about incompetence and lack of will to do what secures progress. At times like this when the problem is identified openly before us, we should not trivialise what is important. We must ascribe blame where stakeholders themselves have told us it belongs.

According to the source, a senior official in the company, the pulling out of the oil majors is due to a number of factors, ranging from the lack of commitment on the part of the Federal Government to pursue the completion of the project and also the non-passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB

@Awodman.

DO you see what I am talking about? Have I spoken to this character here that he jumps in to be questions my upbringing? Is that not unprovoked uncouthness? This is what this forum is about. Spineless cowards who throw blows and play victim when an uppercut comes back at them.

If I respond in kind now or elsewere to this forum member, it is what I write you will conveniently focus on and expose as "rude behaviour" because I am not in your team GEJ. Whereas you are blind to the antics of your co-travellers who are the most rude, most uncouth and most agbero-like on NL by miles.

Sincere 9gerian: Its just appalling what happens on NL these days. While more important threads are left to rot away behind the scene, frivolous threads ( Fashola shaking hands with a white man, launch of taxi schemes, etc) are being moved to the front page with speed of light.

I'm all for PROGRESS and DEVELOPMENT on this forum. I joined in the celebration of the launch of Opo Imo ( customized laptops) by the Osun State govt for students/pupils. But celebrating launch of taxi schemes? That is ridiculous.
Drop the nauseating pretence. Nairalanders know you too well to fail for this sickening 'pretender' role you are trying to pull off. Your first comment here, as usual, was disparaging and belittling because that is your agenda. People are not "celebrating taxis". Least of all not me , the OP, who knows what modern and efficient transport mix deliver throughout the worlds top city via personal experience.

It is the promise kept, towards a comprehensive transport mix, that is commendable.

Shut up you dishonest tw1t. You are not fooling anyone here. I am always ultra-polite to everyone. People I speak to in an ungracious manner are those who have done same to me and I have a history with here.

I have never seen you jump in to correct your fellow team GEJ member, Insincere9gerian, when he is calling others "Tinubu e-dogs" and all manner of ungracious names. Yet, in your silly hypocrisy you will focus on me because I give team GEJ guys here, of which you are one of the most sycophantic, a torrid time.

This is why I take to people like you the way I do. You are not good or decent people. Far from it. You guys are the most uncouth and rude here to the extent many have developed their own defence mechanism against your insults. You routinely insult, without provocation, those who expose your messiah as incompetent and mediocre. Taharqa, Insincere9gerian and others are well-known for this. On your day, you will insult others to be hypocritically playing saint tomorrow, as you do here, in defence of your team member.

Show me where you have told Insincere9gerian, Taharqa and co off for insulting others and I will apologise. Otherwise get out of my face because I know what you are. I am not a rude person by nature but I take no prisoners on NL because of the sort of forum it is. Courteous behaviour receives courteous behaviour vice versa rude behaviour. As simple as that to me.

Thank you. Note he played victim when I took him on but I stated, because I know his treachery and mission, that he would display the same antic "today or tomorrow". See for yourself:

Is that something any adult needs to be told? Watch. He will do similar tomorrow or even today.
After I stated the above, would a sensible person not thread with caution so as not to prove others right? Not Afam ....because he simply can't control his fondness for ignorant talk that are a very bad cover for his chronic affliction of slander, undermining sneers and 'bad belle' against others.

On page 4 our friend Afam appears to prove me right by saying some are celebrating the launch of taxis as performance without even the ability to read and comprehend to note that people are celebrating what, in totality, is increasingly appearing like an overall robust State transport scheme. Anyone who has been to Paris, New York, London or even some developed African Cities will tell you of the enviable overall transport scheme that offers enough choices to ensure there are always options for travellers. We then come to Nairaland to be dealing with clueless yet mischievous individuals like Afam and Insincere9jara who will never shut up despite having nothing to contribute but ignorant negativity. Annoying. Very effing annoying.

The problem with Afam is that he is not very bright yet he is not humble either. Bad combination when you insist on being a 'bad belle' contributor who only wants to run others down. You will easily get discredited, time and time again, being like that.

Afam4eva: I guess achievement means different thing to different people. I personally will not rate procuring taxis as a sign of performance because even the most clueless governors have launched taxi schemes at one point or the other. The only way we can rate these governors will depend greatly on how they manage these taxis. LIke someone pointed out, i think Fashola has done well in that regard.
PoliticsRe: Amosun Launches 150 Taxi Cab In Ogun by Gbawe(op): 8:05am On Aug 23, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: Some people have no shame. Imagine the celebration of the launch of 150 taxi cabs. Incredible. Even the most clueless governors and those that are/were tagged "non-performers" also launched even bigger taxi cab schemes. Yet these are the same clowns that talk of mediocrity when it comes to certain achievements of GEJ. What could be more mediocre than celebrating taxi cab schemes? Shameless hypocrites
Are you clinically insane? Is this not part of a BRT (bus rapid transport) scheme which is in turn a part of an impressive transport agenda taking in a comprehensive light rail scheme to provide adequate transport throughout Ogun State? How many performing governors have such a comprehensive transport agenda let alone "clueless ones"? M0r0n. PDP NEC Plots Automatic Ticket for Jonathan

22 Aug 2013

• To consider amendment to party’s constitution

• Wamakko, Kwankwaso, Bode George, others confer with president

• Atiku to North-east PDP: Disregard allegation of my involvement in PDM

Chuks Okocha with agency report

A meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled for Abuja today may consider a request for the amendment to the party’s constitution to enable President Goodluck Jonathan get an automatic ticket to fly the party’s flag in the 2015 presidential election.

THISDAY checks revealed yesterday that the NEC was expected to approve a draft recommendation for the August 31 special national convention to amend the party’s constitution so that Jonathan would have the right of first refusal to contest the PDP presidential primaries.

By the right of first refusal, the PDP presidential primaries will only affirm the president as the presidential candidate of the party.

Ahead of today’s NEC meeting, the president held series of meetings Wednesday with top party chiefs, including Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, his Kano State counterpart, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, and party chiefs from the South-west.

In addition, as the politicking in the PDP preparatory to the 2015 elections become intense, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged officials of the PDP from the North-east who came to plead with him not to dump the party, to disregard the report of his purported involvement in the formation of the newly registered party, Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM).

As part of the plot to give automatic ticket to the president, it was gathered that the factional chairman of the PDP in Anambra State, Chief Ken Emeakayi, had published a notice for the amendment to the PDP constitution to enable the issue to be discussed at today’s NEC meeting.

Emeakayi confirmed to THISDAY that they are requesting the amendment to the party’s constitution at the special national convention so that Jonathan could contest without any opposition within the party.

“As a state chapter, we have followed due process and also published our request for the amendment to the constitution in the newspaper as an advertorial,” he said.

By the PDP constitution, a request for the amendment to the party’s constitution is expected to be filed with the national secretary of the party and also published in a newspaper to enable members to be acquainted with the request.

Some stakeholders of the party, including the chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih, have been canvassing for the right of first refusal for the president.

As part of the plot to approve the right of first refusal at the NEC meeting, the state chairmen of the party are expected to formalise their meeting to give the request a “carry go and PDP family affair treatment,” a source said Wednesday.
It was also learnt that contrary to expectations, the NEC meeting might not discuss the tenure of office of PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who has faced a blistering campaign for his ouster.

But the meeting will consider for regularisation all the activities that the interim National Working Committee of the party pertaining to the special national convention.

FOLA ADEOLA

The former managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Plc, Fola Adeola has debunked speculations that he is interested in contesting for the governorship of the western Nigerian state of Ogun.
Posters and banners of the former vice Presidential candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN in the 2011 election were yesterday seen in many strategic locations in Abeokuta.
But in a telephone interview today, Adeola vehemently denied ever nursing such ambition to challenge Governor Ibikunle Amosun for the seat.
The former banker said: “I knew nothing about the campaign and to let you know,I have not been to Abeokuta in the last three months.I have no problems with Governor Ibikunle Amosun and if there is any, I will personally discuss it with him and not challenging his seat with him.
“I am not interested in the governorship race. On the posters, I don’t know, I haven’t reached Abeokuta in three months. I am not, if I am interested I will know what to do and I will publicly admit, I am not”,Adeola said.
On why he was absent at the official launch of APC in Ogun State on Monday, Adeola said,: “I wasn’t in the Country during the hoisting of APC flag. I know we have an existing Governor and I have no problem with him whatsoever. If I have anything against him, I will tell him.”
On the speculation that Adeola’s ambition has damaged the relationship between Ogun State government and GTB, leading to the bank stopping a N16.2 billion facility given the state, Adeola said he has no hand in whatever happened in the bank since he left 11 years ago.
“I don’t work in GTB. I left 11 years ago. I don’t sit on its board. I don’t work in its management, so I don’t even know there’s any facility from GTB. I left GTB in 2002 and this is 2013. So I can’t answer a question on what GTB has done or what they hadn’t done or what the government has done with a bank. They have a management, they have a board”,he declared.
The state commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Yusuph Olaniyonu described the posters as the handiwork of mischievous people
He described Adeola as a man of good quality and high taste who relates with Governor Amosun and people in government very well. In his view, Adeola would have settled for posters which do not even befit a councillor.
According to the Information Commissioner, “Has Mr Fola confirmed he authored the posters and banners? I am sure those are works of mischievous people. That is why those banners are that cheap. Not even a councillor will do such banners.I know Mr. Adeola is a man of good quality and high taste and he relates very well with the governor and most of us in the government”.

Are you just 'slow' or do you get some perverse gratification from being exposed daily as a highly ignorant individual who knows very little yet never keeps his ignorant mouth shut? Ogun Boosts Mass Transit Services with new Buses
SEPTEMBER 2012 ECONOMIC CONFIDENTIAL E-mail Print PDF

Ogun State Governor, IbikunleAmosun recently unveiled 77 new buses as part of measures to ease inter and intra city transportation in the state.
At the occasion, Amosunattributed the high incidence of road carnage in the state to the poor state of federal roads.

The Governor, who spoke at the launch of the Ogun State Bus Mass Transit Scheme (BMTS), at the Memorial Arcade, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, described the state of federal roads in Ogun State as “worrisome” and called on the Federal Ministry of Works to speedily fix the roads.
Addressing the gathering that comprised market women, artisans and transporters, Amosun said: “Let me seize this opportunity to express concern on an issue that affects public transportation system, particularly in our state.
“This concerns the state of the federal roads in the state. It saddens me to say that out of the 465,000 deaths and 18,095 injuries recorded in 5,330 road accidents in Nigeria in 2010, 649 of such deaths, 1,333 injuries and 1,980 accidents occurred in Ogun State alone. This translates to 16 per cent of fatalities, eight per cent of injuries and 37 per cent of road accidents.

“Of course, this is due to the fact that the longest sections of the two busiest highways in Nigeria, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, that links the busiest air and sea ports of Nigeria in Lagos, with the rest of Nigeria, and the Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway that links the western and eastern parts of Nigeria- traverse the length of our state.

“The state of disrepair of these roads and the other federal roads in Ogun State are worrisome. I, therefore, plead with the Federal Government, and most especially, the Federal Ministry of Works to pay attention to these roads as a matter of urgency. This is the only way this mass transit project could be sustainable.”

Amosun explained that the procurement of the buses was to ease transportation pains of the people, pointing out: “Almost immediately after these procurement, the state government entered into diligent negotiation and discussion with transportation experts with the aim of acquiring more high capacity buses to augment the apparent shortfall in the number of buses available for intra-city travel in our state.”

Ogun State government says all arrangements have been concluded to inaugurate its 150 new metro taxi cabs.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Gbenga Opesanwo, disclosed this during an interactive session with newsmen in Abeokuta on Monday.
He said the inauguration of the air conditioned Nissan Saloon cars would mark the second phase of the mass transit scheme of the present administration in the state.

The taxi scheme, he added, was in fulfilment of Gov. Ibikunle Amosun’s promise during the inauguration of the State Bus Mass Transit Scheme to ease transportation problem in the state.
Opesanwo said the taxis would be given out to interested labour unions, cooperative societies and other groups in the state.

Good point. Even as Amosun is doing fine, the calibre of those wanting to challenge him is impressive. This is very, very, very important beyond words and something which can only be appreciated looking at others. When people, to spite Nigeria, say Ghana, Botswana and others are doing well, I always reply that those Countries are doing nothing special. They are only using round pegs in round holes. A no-brainer template for development.

The day we begin to do that in Nigeria is the day every corner of the Country begins to see progress made that will always be sustained and consolidated upon because incoming administrator are as talented as those they are replacing. Nigeria's problem is that we are still seeing talented candidates being disqualified and frozen out by the machination of those who fear development of the land and the people in it.

How did you come to this conclusion? Even in the article we can discern that this is personal ambition at work which everyone is entitled to entertain:

But in his reaction, the State Publicity Secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, Sina Oduntan, said the development was a normal thing. He said everyone had the right to show interest in any elective position in the party.
@topic.

Good to see that the OBJ model has now been destroyed. It is no longer thugs and crooks who queue up to occupy important positions in the SW. It now appears, as against what obtained under OBJ, politics in the SW is becoming the domain of proven achievers. Understated and wonderful development. Perhaps the most important systematic change many do not acknowledge.

Adeola is an impressive guy so he is entitled to follow his ambition but it is likely Amosun will get the APC ticket easily because of the level of work he is doing and the considerable achievement he has delivered and is delivering.

A welcomed development that it appears the system has changed in the SW to now facilitate the situation that obtains in progressive nations worldwide whereby 'good guys', achievers and talented thinkers get involved in vying for important office with a good chance of being supported to win. That is the surest template for development and it is what is responsible for the progress some of our universally-lauded African fellow Countries are making.

Fantastic response and the sort I like to see because it confirms that some people understand what matters. I.e issues are entirely about stakeholders not mischief-makers making silly demands. If the stakeholders are seeing development they are happy with, then who cares about the opinions of doubting Thomases who do this on every single positive thread about the SW yet are not from the region?

Coupled with their nuisance ways is the fact that they never show the slightest interest in discussing their own States and region. Again, I present the link below detailing , with pictures, the massive infrastructural development being seen in Ogun State. Does anyone see a single one of these mischief-makers on the thread below? Abeg, stakeholders and their well-wishers should learn to discuss with positive people on these sort of threads because failure to do so leads to them being derailed my mischief-makers. In so far as anyone can contribute opinions, the only way to keep a thread educational and informative is to avoid mischief-makers who show up for one thing and one thing alone.

ba7man: Honestly, pictures would have been better on this thread.

Also, it the new roads don't have neat sidewalks, I'm not impressed.

We need to raise our standards to get what we truely deserve.
fasho01: I am proud of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. He is indeed delivering on his promises.

I understand the need for pictures but I can catergoically say that these sayings are facts.

Good work my able Governor..
Osun a dara oo
You guys should stop allowing yourselves to be badgered into a position because of the utterances of proven haters of the SW and mischief-makers. Do you guys not check past posts of those always making picture demands even when a multitude of stakeholders have testified to stated ongoing projects? This is getting too much now as it is currently impossible to discuss anything progressive about the SW without these obsessed elements, usually with zero connection with SW State and the region, showing up with their petty antics.

If there is no picture with the article, what does it matter? What have we seen in this thread if not that many stakeholders have come here to confirm what the article states. Where in the world (USA, UK or even Ghana) do you guys see articles detailing infrastructural development being accompanied by pictures as a matter of importance or reporting protocol? Pictures may be available or they may not be. That is never a central issue for nations with a sensible, sophisticated and united adult population.

Yet we have again bastardized something simple in Nigeria because of ethnic enmity, Party bias and general disunity of purpose. I travel west Africa regularly. You read about projects of Governments that are ongoing. Whether it is Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Togo or Ghana, issues are never centrally about pictures because government is not compelled to take pictures for anyone. They simply must provide infrastructure and give details of such. We all have cameras on our phone now. Doubting Thomases, who never defer to the testimony of stakeholders, should take the pictures they want to see or ask someone to do such for them for the sake of education. Ultimately, they can visit Osun if they are so keen to disrespect the testimony of so many folks in live in the State and those who have passed through. The last thing any sensible person wants to do is begin entertaining the distraction of these pests whose past post reveal totally what they are.

Seempliehuman: it is gud for you if you're satisfied with the nddc roads of if there are any roads at all.We love our roads, put pictures of yours online and celebrate them if our joy bothers you.
The only reason why ACN wont win national elections is because nigeria is ethnically fragmented and its your loss
You have hit the nail on the head. Ultimately, I would advise all stakeholders and forward-thinking Nigerians to ignore these hateful elements. They are not stakeholders and not benevolent Nigerians either. They will most likely never use the roads under discussion here.

Sensible posters must avoid these 'junk' posters lest all SW infrastructural development threads be bogged down in idiocy. The pattern is the same on NL. I.e positive thread is started about the SW. Stakeholders themselves are happy with what is revealed about the efforts of their elected administrators.

These appreciative stakeholders offer positive on-the-ground testimony as seen here. Predictably, the bad belle crew arrive. They will usually not be from the SW and thus not stakeholders. Yet they show a distinct penchant for contributing only negative and disparaging comment 100% of the time. They are the only sort arrogant enough to disregard the sensitivity and numerous testimony of stakeholders and direct end-users to be making noise and mischievous demands as if anyone owes them anything.

Overall, exciting times for Osun and the SW in general. A lot for stakeholders and their well-wishers to be happy about and discuss productively. Sensible people should be able to come here and constructively discuss the dividends now accruing to people who made the right political choices. Don't entertain distractions that always predictably comes from the same set of hateful and anti-SW people who are not stakeholders and whose previous posts amply reveals what they are. Stakeholder, enjoying the benefit of what is being delivered, have nothing to prove to hateful non-stakeholders. Such people only deserve to be ignored however much they crave your attention.

To show you what these haters are and to expose their mission, go to the thread below. How many of those asking for pictures here showed their face there? Shown pictures of the massive construction going on in Ogun State, how many of these "concerned" folks did you see appear on the thread to commend Amosun or wish the SW well? None is the answer. Not even a single one of them. Had the thread below had no pictures, they would have made the same silly and childish demand we all now know they do not make out of love or consideration for the SW.

Shine u Eye: Give you names of the good guys in APC?

Many discerning observers here in the politics section long realize Gbawe lives in cloud cuckoo land.
He's a comedian and should not be taken seriously.
You know, you guys are amusing. You say all these things yet you won't stop quoting me or asking me questions as your co-traveller did all for the sake of getting the attention and opinion of a poster you claim not to take seriously. How many stand up guys do you see doing that? You guys are just pathetic, insecure jokers.

I don't even know who most of you clowns are because you're not worth knowing!!! If you want to carry on with your unreturned attention towards others who do not know or reckon with you, then it is obvious who the insecure comedian is.
