RedReact: This is how governance should be, as politics is diferent from governance. When in politics, self-interest might be the watchword for the party members; but when in governance, common-interest should be the key to deliver good governance. You are right. On reflection, "governance" is a better choice of words. Your post is a good one all round. |
naptu2: The hidden posts were the work of nairaland's most virulent troll, the GREAT MUSIWA. Once he gets an idea in his head, he'll spam any and every thread with it, whether it's related to the thread topic or not (the guy must have posted over a hundred pictures at a go).Indeed. I would however urge caution because I think innovation must be cost effective. It must never be pursued, in this day and age where logistic challenges are now totally simplified, for the sake of vacuously proving that we can "manufacture". By all means, we should go for it if we have the expertise, raw materials and conducive environment to produce this machine for domestic use and to sell even to others. Once again, it is good to note Fashola is thinking along the lines of us manufacturing these machines and I would bet the thinking of the Lagos governor, as the proactive and well-informed administrator he is, is influenced by revelations such as that stated below. It would make sense to plan for and take advantage of what is written below. http://businessdaynigeria.com/construction-industry-positive-outlook-grows-13-2012 Construction industry in positive outlook, grows 13% in 2012 |

kodewrita: I am more interested in the alternate highway to Lagos (not sure where it was supposed to kickoff but I believe it was meant to pass through Ijebu-igbo in ogun state or somewhere close), toll or no toll.My guess is that it may be tolled as it is offered specifically as an alternate to the federal government owned Lagos-Ibadan expressway route. It does pass through Ijebo-Igbo as you stated. |
This is how politics should be. |
kodewrita: I can confirm that the project exists.Indeed. The "Great Western rail line" project sounds very interesting too. http://www.punchng.com/news/osun-names-airport-after-mko/ Osun names airport after MKO |
jp philips: Obviously, you didn't even understand what you said.i have 100% doubt that you understood Gbawe either, you are just a toad confusing hot water with a cold one,That is why I did not bother responding further to what he said. For many around here, there is no humility to accept that they jumped to conclusion because of lack of knowledge. Is there a way to spin the ignorant post below? Where does one even begin? Laudable project but the question is...should this project be high on priority list? What economic advantage is Lagos getting from this project? yea....i know the argument(foreign investment, revenue..blah blah we know this project is not for the masses....then who is it for? Do we need to spend so much money on a massive project at this time when other useful infrastructure lay dormant and wasting away? |
dayokanu: Thank God the SW booted out the PDPAt this rate OBJ will defect to the APC soon It really is becoming seriously uncool to be PDP in the SW. All people now remember about "the nest of killers", South west version, is looting, gangsterism and thuggery. |
@OP Some great points throughout. At the end of the day, a strong and vibrant opposition is needed to keep the ruling Party on its feet. You are correct to state that the democracy of some African nations are stronger than that of Nigeria because of that very point i.e strong opposition able to depose a ruling Party performing badly. This is often the best situation for making ruling Parties perform optimally worldwide. The exposed politicians in the PDP, i.e those into the core science of politics and not just 'chopulate disciples', will appreciate the arrival of the APC as a badly needed and long awaited evolutionary stage our politics needed to reach to herald further progress for Nigeria. |
Garri the 1st: Such news fuels my hatred for the killer-party.. What a "rascal" that Wole Soyinka is. His "nest of killers" tag fit the PDP so aptly it ain't even funny. ![]() |
One thing that impresses me here is the openness. Major verifiable information about this project ie. time, cost, features have been made public already. Unlike our PDP friends that have been constructing Abuja/Lokoja road since 1999 with no end in sight. Worse still, you never will know how much has been spent or how how much will be spent.
My brother, this is verification of what I have always emphasised to any Nigerian contemplating casting their vote. There are hardly many saints in Nigerian politics but the electorate must look at the history and record of candidates. A man who has a history of delivering will likely continue to do so when elected to office to the benefit of the electorate. Whereas a mediocrity with no history of achievement will carry his incompetence into elected office. The big difference is that many lives will be ruined needlessly. Whatever ACN has going on, they generally embrace achievers and folks who deliver results. The end result of that ideology is what we are seeing now. Simple as that. |
To be candid, Lagos and it's leadership SHOULD NOT even be used in a comparison with any non South Western State! Osun State already bests all the South East Ibo states and now it is getting to the point where mentioning Osun State and any SE state will be described in the phraseology of the current Apple CEO, Tim Cooks: "...it's not even close!" ![]() This stretch of road ALONE will be better than all the roads in ibo land!
To be honest, it is not about competition. I think we need to look at the big picture and wish every Nigerian State well because an Oasis in a desert will be where everyone will inordinately concentrate and overburden. If anything, I hope the hard-work of all these ACN Governors will convince more States to boot out the indolent PDP in 2015. Our entire nation needs inspired individuals who will bring progress to every corner of Nigeria. The SW is now fully vindicated for booting out the "nest of killers" i.e the PDP. |
@OP. I hope you know this is part of this bigger 30km Gbongan/Akoda expressway project I mentioned here a few days ago to develop an ecnomically importand corridor: http://www.osundefender.org/?p=103546 Gbongan/Akoda ExpressWay: Osun’s Economic Beehive |
Meritbaba: God bless Aregberascal..You are the best thing that ever happen to State of OsunMore grease to his hard-working elbows. Owo Ogbeni a ma re oke. |
Mee234: He has no shame because he see things differently? He made a very good point. Can you remember any of the campaign message of the opposition apart from the usual noise of nigeria will burn if they lose or they will kick pdp out? PDP is still ruling because the opposition is no better.No. He has no shame because, as I have pointed out many times, he does not see the right order of things as befits 'best universal practices'. The Nigerian Presidency is disgracing even if people like Insecure9gerian do not have the neutrality to discern that. Will the PDP also ask for debate tomorrow when Buhari talks to BBC radio? Will they tell Rochas to meet them for a Microphone fight-off too when Okorocha gives a speech? Meanwhile the entire world sees that the Government shows no interest in addressing the issues raised by so many critics. What if David Cameron turns around to ask GEJ why has he not taken Ribadu's advise and directed we stop selling our crude through traders as the only major exporter doing so since this is abetting monumental theft and fraud against Nigeria and robbing the nation of badly-needed income? Can Cameron not rightly say "I would do this in seconds as a leader searching for solutions for the UK"? What is the point then challenging others to debate when they correctly show up your deficiency you have have no interest in addressing? |
Afam4eva: So, Abati has sunk to the level that university students are now calling him to order. Before we know it, primary school and kindergatten will start calling out Abati. That is how low he has sunk. He should do the honorable thing and resign cos his reputation has been buried.100% correct. We may all have our affiliations and biases but we should be able to agree that Abati has disgraced himself many times. This is the same shameless character who has lied to the Nigerian people directly. It is a measure of how the GEJ Presidency does not "give a damn" that Abati is still around to be insulting the sensibilities of Nigerians. |
VoodooDoll: The ruling party at the centre is PLEADING to debate with the opposition.I really don't know how this is not obvious to some here. What is clear is the huge human development deficit of Nigeria that means leaders can be as terrible as they want to be while supporters, the victims, blindly back their diversionary antics. Debate ko media chat ni. Tinubu gives a speech in London and an insecure Presidency is calling for debate. Is this not proof that those who occupy the seat know they do not belong in it and are only keeping it warm for others? They follow everything Tinubu does obsessively rather than lead and prove him wrong as the easiest way to put opposition in it's place and as is done worldwide. Does the acclaimed heavyweight boxing champion who has earned his title, defeating the best available, go around insecurely challenging every mouthy street punk to a fight? |
cool4ny: No, that is why i am asking questions about the project. We don't all have to agree and i am not against it...just wondering if it is the right project at the right time.No disrespect to you, but do you realise a fair person may conclude it is best to do some basic research and gain more information rather than just assume the worst? Ordinarily and desirably, one should never pander idly to ignorance and innate prejudices because doing that leaves one contributing nothing to the forward movement of humanity. You are leaving that to others who make an effort to eschew intellectual laziness by reading/researching to get informed. |
Nnanna224: Na today? Why not finish the projecys at hand viz 10 lane roads et al b4 engaging in white elephant aristocratic projectsThis is a coming together of the private and public sector with the former supplying the finance. The private sector, being profit-driven, rarely involves itself in "white Elephant aristocratic projects". It must also be pointed out that an equitable person would have no problem with a development being financed by private funds let alone call it "aristocratic". I am guessing you do not even know Eko Atlantic is privately funded and rushed to conclude this is another case of "they are using our wealth to build another elite paradise". |
naptu2:. This is the disgraceful level of ignorance some are working with. They don't mind going public with such hideous ignorance either because the innate bad belle that predisposes them to be negative about everything 24/7 means they are unlikely to ever consider it sensible to even do 60 seconds worth of research. Taxpayer ko tax collector ni. |
BekeeBuAgbara: But UNN does not breed terroristsand ABU does? The unrepentant prejudice you and others display is not helping matters at all. |
I dey laff. This will end in tears for team |
Iykopee: Dude u are a snag to ur so called apc political party... Was d language so difficult to understand dat u go as lenthy as inundating the thread with codswallop posts.. Take d clog blurring ur views outta ur eyes and urge ur saliva dripping party members to accept the challenge or forever remain silentYou cannot even write English properly. Why should any serious person engage you in debate? |
abokinside: why do we have so many kids on nairaland? They are not even kids because my youngest child (aged 4+) reasons far better than many of them. They are just worthless adults who remind sensible Nigerians that we are in trouble if you look at development as related to the calibre of human resources a Nation has at its disposal. |
Gamji007:Likewise. Dude is a loser. He has no shame at all that this pathetically desperate challenge comes after Tinubu gave a well-received speech in the UK. Would a secure, popular, respected and achieving/performing ruling government care what the opposition is saying let alone be challenging it to a public duel outside an election period? |
Iykopee: they shud accept the debate no time for scraggy stories. Are you people for real? A debate that comes after Tinubu gave a speech in London about what his Party will offer Nigeria in the face of the monumental failure of the current Government? For a serious government focused on moving Nigeria forward, what should Tinubu's comments draw out from them if not a renewed commitment to carrying out the many badly need reforms analyst continuously indict the GEJ Government of ignoring? If you back this pathetic garbage, delivered to get emptily clannish supporters like you riled up, Why not then sanction a competition for APC and PDP supremos to compare d1cks in public? Nigerians, and their lack of sophistication, are the problem of Nigeria. Don't shout "debate" because the indolent looters you support fool you into doing such when they have been correctly taken to task over their numerous failings. Challenge them, if they can, to implement the reforms we are all asking for. Challenge GEJ, for example, to bravely lead Nigeria into an age where we can, in one fell swoop, defeat fraud against Nigeria by engaging foreign refineries directly to import refined derivatives of crude for us while we have a subsidy scheme in place. Challenge him to banish the use of marketers as he can and as Otedola, an influential member of his economic team, suggested. |
luvable sam: maitama has been sold out since the 90's but its still a ghost town. How many people can afford d accomodation?if my argument isn't logical then its a pity!Look, I have no argument with you. You say you are a concerned Nigerian and I agree because that makes you my fellow citizen. My point is that your arguments make no sense because you don't seem to account for the fact that Lagos is a true mega-city in every sense of the word. Nothing in Africa is near to challenging it's unique potentials if the State is optimally developed. Eko Altantic City is even only one thing to keep an eye on. The development of the Lekki corridor will be huge for Nigerian and, directly, West Africa once the planned International airport is delivered. The opening up of the Badagry axis will also have huge implication for Lagos, Nigeria and Africa as well. If you see how overdeveloped some Countries of the world are, i.e Japan, to the extent reclamation of designated 'green' land is now inevitable, then you will appreciate the potentials for development Nigeria has because it's teeming population has so many virgin land to develop and spread into. |
This outburst, once again, is indicative of the paranoia of the universally unwanted, unpopular and dying GEJ Government over the willing audience the yet to be registered APC is gaining. Tinubu only gave a speech to a packed-out British diasporan congregation in the UK on Tuesday and a Presidency one would expect to be busy with pressing issues is challenging the APC that "get off the bus let us fight" (Bo le ka ja). Perhaps in desperate recognition of how the world is, in the face of the monumental failings of the PDP, more willing to listen to what the brightest alternative platform has to say. Nationhood, especially as involves Countries that have significant and wider implications for world development, is a much bigger concept that is far beyond the machinations of a few unintelligent and myopic mortals like GEJ and his gang of corrupt and self-serving mercenaries. The entire world sees Nigeria failing, despite it's massive endowment and significance to the universe, because of sheer incompetence. The sort that sees a President pretending to be searching for solutions yet rejecting clear-cut and straightforward transformational recommendations he has received. It won't be long before every ear is clinging on to what an opposition platform has to say and willing it on to win when those currently in charge are worthless, very disappointing, uninspired and highly profligate charlatans totally unwilling to implement the changes everyone, home and abroad, insist on seeing. |
luvable sam: av they planned n provided for the 15million inhabitants they av already?u re planning for waec wen u av failed first school leaving certificate exams(primary skul)does dat make any sense??Pessimism and criticism need to be sensible and logical ... not just uttered for it's sake alone. You see an article that reveals phase one of this project is is already almost sold out off-plan and 2 years before even the first building is ready and you are talking of "Ghost City"? Lagos is no different to London, New York and many other mega Cities of the world in that real Estate rules are very different to the norm because these Cities are concentration of extraordinary activities that affect so many people throughout the world. Eko Atlantic is actually fanning into what Lagos must be not what it wants to be. |
Pukkah: Nice project but they need to spare a thought for the transport needs of the 150,000 people (employees) that will daily commute to and from the City.Within the City itself, getting around should be relatively easy with a transport mix that would include tram-linkage (see image below). Getting to the City should not be too difficult because many lane entry and exit roads are planned. Modular links , as specific transport challenges arise, could be added to existing State rail lines as well. When you see many examples of projects like these done seamlessly throughout the world, such as how many new light rail stations and even temporary transport link were created to accommodate the huge influx of people that descended on East London for the 2012 Olympics, then you appreciate what innovation, great engineering effort and world-class technical expertise is all about. https://www.environewsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Eko-4.jpg |
