Kindly explain what you find disappointing. My opinion that Bakare should keep religion away from politics after he has now dabbled in the latter? Throughout the world, and for good reason, it is advocated that politics is kept secular i.e devoid of religious influences as much as possible.

Let us forget the characters involved. It is either we want our democracy to develop or we prefer so-called strong/religious men to keep tainting it with their prejudice and "ordained predictions". Bakare is entitled to his political opinion but he should not be appearing to taint an electoral process by making religious "predictions". Bakare should follow proceedings like the rest of us and pray for the best man to win.

What "hypocrisy". The word is much abused around here. Cheaply for that matter. Pointless playing politics with certain issues. We all know Nigerians are highly religious. We should look dispassionately at issues instead of pitching tents because of personalities involved.

Of course Bakare is out of order making predictions about who has "won" an election. There is no two ways about it. If we want our politics to develop we will all reject the interference of religion in politics. It is a generally held view that religion should have no place in politics and I would think this applies most to Nigeria which is one of the most religious nations on Earth where people still do crazy things in the name of religion.

Jarus, it should simply be about Nairalanders who are civil, rational and that most members of the forum don't have issues with. That is what you stated you would do originally. If you noticed, I deferred to Afam4eva's point that me and others should not be judges. There are many Nairalanders like e-guerilla, Eziachi, Akanbi Edu, Ogugua88, kilode, Sky Blue, pukkah, PhysicsQED, edo Girl, Ajanlokoko, Paddy Lo, Northsharp, HNosegbe, Coogar, Mikeansy, Sisi Skills et al liked by everyone. Why would you want to replace those likeable and fair-minded people because of the notion you are "neutralizing" extreme opinions? The very point of selecting judges is ensuring they should not have extreme opinions so that they can look at the opinions of others dispassionately.

Even the word teleprompter is self-explanatory. It should "prompt" you with points you then speak comprehensively on. It should not be an entire book to read word for word. Most leaders know issues comprehensively and only need bullet points so they don't leave out anything and so they can speak on topics perhaps in a hierarchical order. With most leaders, you may not even be aware they are using a teleprompter because a teleprompter is meant to achieve precisely that. I.e show leaders talking and appearing to look at the camera. Most leaders pull it off because they need only a quick glance to note the next point. Much better than a cue card where one would have to look down. Alas, even a teleprompter cannot disguise very poor ability for retaining facts.

Not a bad idea but debates still need judges. The idea of Judges cannot be discarded because of their socio-political leanings. It is impossible to gain judges without a point of view either way. What judges should do , as much as possible, is put personal opinion asides to look at the arguments.

This is the whole point of selecting Nairalanders who, from their writing here, show they can do that. There are Nairalands who have passionate and strong views yet can be trusted to be fair in my opinion. Also, Judges can give scores to debaters and indicate precise strengths and weaknesses of argument. that way, we get to note the thinking of judges.

Debates are enjoyable and educational if decorum is good ... and mods can ensure civility anyway by 'sitting in attendance'. What you suggest can still happen separate to a debate.

I get some of your point clearly and sincerely. Yet, I still think the conducts of Yoruba folks is not "docility". I think the Yorubas have genuinely moved on and are now preoccupied with progress and how to secure it.

I think it is not necessary for anyone to get unduly aggressive over perceived attacks against Awolowo or any Yoruba icon for that matter. It is not about being pacifist. It is about not wasting energy ,best deployed productively elsewhere, tackling things that are just a "storm in a teacup". Personally, I think most Yorubas get that concept and this is why they don't make an issue of certain things and are rising above entertaining 'distractions'.

Yorubas should continue to concentrate on the immediate challenges before them and take their feedback from events unfolding. So far, it remains about the adage "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me".

Tunde Bakare should be careful alternating between Pastor and Politician when it suits him. He cannot, as someone who ran to be Vice President of Nigeria, be "predicting" who has won an election. This is a highly irresponsible action that may lead to chaos given how religious and emotional Nigerians are.

If another Party legitimately defeats Mimiko, some folks may riot to defend the "god-ordained" victory of Mimiko. Nigerian politics need maturity and fairness not religion, fanaticism or emotion. It is not only when ACN replies to Bakare's incendiary antics that people begin commenting negatively about the Party. There should simply be no tolerance for Bakare doing this. If any other Pastor had predicted Bakare would lose an election he will no doubt be the sort to say that is a "rigging plan" that will be resisted with "blood". It is fair to hold every individual/Party responsible for their conducts always. Bakare is totally out of order.

It is about judges having little or no objections to their candidacy and I urge Nairalanders to get involved so that we get worthy Judges and not bigoted/sectional/controversial/subversive/divisive characters tainting processes and continuing the 'agbero' trend that has driven many away from this forum.

I think we can look at creating a separate list for non-Nigerian Nairalanders who are civil plus make intelligent contributions here. That way, we can ensure 2 or ,at the very least, 1 out of 10 Judges will be non-Nigerian on a forum many Africans use.

My brother, in most educational debates, the onus is on those debating to essentially treat judges as laymen to be 'won over'. Bring arguments, citations, statistics, collated data, articles and scholarly references that can sway judges.

If we ask Judges to be 'experts' then we are asking them to be overbearing influences who simply align their opinion, regarding what they know, in line with what debating forumers are saying. Rather, we must create a process where the strength and empirical superiority of arguments carries the day.

There may be a lot you don't know much about but I bet you can be a good 'adjudicator' if facts are presented to you comprehensively. The biggest element of this exercise should be for the mods to manage issues towards fact-based submissions that can be proven so that Judges, essentially become like dispassionate Jury members who should look , first and foremost, at the factual superiority of arguments.

Jarus and OAM4J, there are some good non-Nigerians here. They are contributory members of Nairaland also. Why not include at least one of them , in a show of positive discrimination, to foster unity , provide a 'balanced' and inclusiveness panel of judges plus aid the concept of involving some who can be totally neutral and optimally useful regarding some debates?

Remember that a Briton or Argentinian will never be chosen to referee a Soccer game between Britain and Argentina. That concept shows we should have at least 1 or 2 non-Nigerian Nairalanders as judges who can always choose to opt out of things they don't know much about but can prove very decisive in issues Nigerians may be too passionate or biased about.

For example, I am connected with Ghana through familial association but not to the extent of taking sides. My Ghanaian friends therefore appreciate my neutral opinion regarding what I think of the NDC and NPP (our own PDP and ACN).
