PoliticsRe: Lagos State Governorship Elections. Where Did Jimi Agbaje Go Wrong? by Gbawe: 12:45pm On Apr 14, 2015
Most Lagosians cannot trust the PDP. That was the main factor that worked against Agbaje. He should also have refrained from trying to court votes divisively by whipping up ethnic sentiments. He pitched the Yorubas and igbos against each other and both ethnic group felt they had a 'supremacy' point to prove. Unfortunately, Agbaje will continue with his life of affluence and privilege while the ethnic 'unrest' he has caused has now changed Lagos for good and will continue troubling the State for many years to come.

No more federal new media allocation. Is it wike who will see d money on sincere9gerian and Co?

Most of them will disappear. They never stood for anything to start with.
Indeed. Like leaders (GEJ, Sambo et al) like followers (Sincere9gerian et al). GEJ, for example, will probably never be heard from again after May 29. He will be too busy spending his loot as the emptily materialistic, unprincipled and very lucky 'accidental' leader he always was who did not "give a damn" and cared about no one but himself.
PoliticsRe: Buhari: My Worry by Gbawe: 9:14pm On Apr 13, 2015
Be calm OP. Nigeria is in safe hands now. May 29th is only around the corner. Buhari cannot be sworn in earlier than is constitutional and legal. Yet trust me when I say his team has begun working already.
PoliticsRe: Buhari Can Cancel Power Privatisation – Nerc Boss by Gbawe: 7:13pm On Apr 13, 2015
I am afraid it is only jokers and the AGIP pals of GEJ who "won" bids for Nigeria's power assets who will be foolish enough to think Buhari will abide with a fraudulent contraption that can never solve Nigeria's power woes because, in the first place, it was the most blatant and shockingly dishonest example of crony capitalism and daylight robbery packaged as "power privatisation". How will Buhari condone a scheme that charges Nigerians more money yet delivers only worsening darkness in return?

Nigerians should bear in mind that the first thing Yar Adua did, after being sworn in, was to cancel the non-transparent "privatisation" sales of our refineries to pals of OBJ like Otedola et al. That was another example of crony capitalism that would not have delievered the desired result which is the optimal refining of Nigeria's crude endowment within Nigeria. Buhari will order an investigative committee to look into the Power "privatisation" scheme of the GEJ government with the only conclusion that can be reached being that the whole thing is scam incapable of ever delivering. The 419 scheme GEJ packaged together must thus be suspended to be replaced by genuine privatisation, as Fashola and Amaechi hankered for, that will enable serious States have a say in devising their own solutions in a a genuine pro-people arrangement that will feature established, efficient and respected players in the power sector.

@ Gbawe, please make a case for Nuhu abeg! We all agree he is a terrible politician, his mistakes are not completely unforgivable. Nigeria, most especially Northern Nigeria needs him.
My dear lady, only Tinubu can make a case for Ribadu successfully at the moment. Tinubu, beyond politics, is genuinely very fond of Ribadu. It is therefore possible Tinubu may 'pull rank' for Ribadu effectively.

Just like Naijababe's love for Nuhu, I genuinely like him. I met him once from afar (at a burial) and there were a few things about him that touched me in a special way. Unfortunately, I will be unable to state them here for private reasons. He is the kind of northerner that I love. The type that makes nonsense of the stereotype that ethnic jingoists project. Mallam has broken my heart. For a fellow who is cynical about politicians, it takes a lot to do that.
On another note, I doubt he is a politician in the Nigerian sense.
You are right about the above. Ribadu's main shortcoming is that his eagerness to serve Nigeria often led him to throw caution and reputation to the wind to then make rash decisions/utterances that have now left his political career in tatters. Like you , I like Ribadu a lot also. In fact this is the reason I am silent on Ribadu these days. Despite his mistakes, I cannot join those now attacking and mocking him and would therefore prefer to say nothing at all either way.

I hope Buhari may find his service useful, because Ribadu never burnt his bridges and never embraced 'gutter politics' as other PDP leaders did gleefully, but the General has said he has no plans to appoint PDP decampees into his cabinet and I fear this includes Ribadu also. A waste of administrative talent yet I must personally admit, as much as I like and respect Mallam Ribadu, that his problems are entirely self-inflicted and indicative of the sort of naivete and errors of judgement a man of his standing should not be guilty of.

To Gbawe & all fellow progressives. Congrats on the generally beautiful Governorship & State HoA election results.

My joy knows no bounds at the moment. May the new dispensation be enjoyable to all of us.
Thanks my brother. I am happy beyond words at this time also. A new dawn begins. Nigeria will not become a paradise overnight but anything , for the better, can now happen under the first completely and bravely pro-people President Nigeria has had since our current democracy and republic began in 1999.

Before you disappear, please say a kind word for your friend Mallam Nuhu. How did he destroy so much goodwill in such a short time? Are we too quick in pronouncing the Messiahship of men and women who have not been tested enough? Are we not better off with an Orubebe who we can predict than a Ribadu who can never be predicted?
My brother, I have no kind words for Ribadu. He has massively disappointed me and others who believed in him. Haven said that, I think Ribadu remains a good, kind and benevolent man who will always be on the side of what is best for Nigeria and Nigerians. Ribadu's main shortcoming is that he is actually a good administrator yet a terrible politician incapable of understanding the nuances of Nigerian politics.

I doubt Buhari would be interested in working with Ribadu but I think the former EFCC boss would still excel in any role that correctly matches the right public position with his specific talents and limitations. Overall, I have no regret supporting Ribadu in the past even though I am disappointed with some of the political choices he made. It is to Ribadu's credit , and another indicator of his decency, that he refrained from the mudslinging and divisiveness virtually all PDP political aspirants engaged in merely for the sake of winning elections.

Good leaders learn from their mistakes. I think El Rufai meant well even if he was a bit over-zealous in his drive to bring order and discipline. His crisis management ability will be better now and I think he will have learnt to be a bit more diplomatic in trying to get things done.

All you have said is true , especially number 1 above, but Jonathanians have no capacity for facing the truth. Jonathan's style was to try and politically destroy those who disagree with him or are unwilling to let him have his ways. The GEJ-backed impeachment of Nyarko and attempted impeachment of Al Makura caused a great deal of bad blood and widened the already big chasm that existed between member of the PDP GEJ had already divided and set against each other.

You got it spot-on when you argued Jonathan was never interested in brokering peace. He was power drunk and believed his position meant he was above others and could not be brought down. Do you remember how he handled the whole G-7 governors issue? He bullied them out of the PDP and kept them out with his arrogant and dictatorially belligerent snub of the relatively straightforward conditions the governors gave for returning to the PDP. As usual, GEJ stuck his fingers up at them and told them he did not "give a damn". This is why I personally despise the fans of GEJ who prefer to operate with ethnocentric fervour and revisionism rather than face the truth. They will claim "ethnic gang-up" and that GEJ's "only crime" was to "allow free and fair election" but forget the period below, and many like it, where GEJ arrogantly chose the path of war and discord thus leaving others no choice but to take him on for their political survival.

G-7 govs give Jonathan fresh conditions

on November 22, 2013 / in News 12:55 am / Comments

By Soni Daniel, Regional Editor, North

The seven aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors have tabled new demands before President Goodluck Jonathan as conditions for making peace with him and the leadership of the party.

Vanguard learnt from competent sources close to the group that the governors tabled the new set of demands following indications by the Presidency that it was willing to resume peace talks with them.

It was learnt that among other conditions, the governors wanted the suspension of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of River State lifted, while the Presidency should also recognise him as the leader of Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

Besides, it was gathered that the governors are also insisting that PDP must lift the suspension on Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and allow him resume as the National Secretary of the party in accordance with the Appeal Court judgment.

Apart from the embattled secretary of the party, the ‘rebel governors’ also want recall of factional chairman, Abubakar Kawu Baraje; his deputy, Sam Sam Jaja and Ambassador Kazaure as well as removal of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as national chairman of the party.

The governors are also said to have requested the President to call the FCT Minister, Bala Muhammed, to order over his peceived assault on the G-7 governors.

They are equally reported to have asked Jonathan to restore the security aides of the governors, which were withdrawn in the wake of the political crisis and to sanction the policemen that tried to disrupt their meetings in Abuja.

One of the governors confirmed to Vanguard, yesterday, that they were open to any discussion that would lead to peace, but doubted if the Presidency was ready for genuine peace and reconciliation.

Perhaps he is right. It might be easier to make KOWA the main opposition than to try and rebuild the PDP which is now a failed brand and essentially a regional Party as things stand.

The story of a minority president.

He was not a member of of the Odua-Arewa gang up, by the virtue of his place of origin, he had no right to rule Nigeria, only those from the gang up has the right to. He was bestowed with power by divine intervention, he wanted to retain the power, but the gang up are not having any of it, he pleaded and made promises and agreements with the gang, for he had no right to lead, so they granted him an extra four years, but he was too busy trying to please the gang up, even to the neglect of his own people, corruption was on the rise, as they kept demanding from him, he had to let them have their way to the treasury, they even used it to turn the people against him, even when they were the beneficiaries, if only he knew that nothing he did would have ever pleased them or their people, perhaps he would. have concentrated more on his people, perhaps he would have outed the "Cabals", but his personal ambitions beclouded him.

He was a cornered animal, there was no escape for him, his date of political death had already been fixed by the gang up, he knew he was cornered, so he made his first move, he tried to post pone his date of death by 3 more years, for he suggested a 7 year single tenure, but the gang up checkmated him, they saw that move coming.

But he wasn't going to go down without a fight, armed with hordes of advisers, he made the next move, he attacked his prisoners head on, they fled in their numbers, only to re group in a New camp under a new logo, and grew in power as the days went by.

Then suddenly, his day of reckoning came,he fought to the end, but a man can't change his fate, so he surrendered and let them have their way, he was done!
You took your time. I was expecting you. Where on earth would this thread be without the usual "GEJ was a victim of a Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba gang-up" contribution? What happened is that Tinubu (politician) and buhari (politician) defeated GEJ( politician). If you want to make it Tinubu (Yoruba) and Buhari (Fulani) ganged-up to defeat GEJ (Ijaw) then that is your own business. All I know is that your talk reveals the attitude of a failure with a siege mentality and persecution complex. Politics happened. Get over it and learn some useful lessons instead of crying all over the forum about "betrayal" and "gang-up" pitifully.

This is the problem dominating the thinking and outlook of people like you completely. You feel others are to be fought and hated while bridges should be burnt arrogantly. When Yorubas prefer a 'live and let live' approach, combined with a pragmatically intelligent modus operandi of siding with what is best for Nigeria above everything else, you call them names. When will your kind begin to grow up and take the right lessons from life especially in relation to getting on with and respecting others?

Problem is, most of high-ranking members are going to decamp to APC before 2017.

It's not going to be easy to rebuild, yet I believe it's possible.
This is why I said the PDP does not have the personnel to bounce back . Can PDP leaders, for example, play opposition faithfully as Tinubu and Buhari have done for over a decade? Many have come out to say the PDP is full of unprincipled 'fair weather' politicians with dedication to their stomach rather than to enduring ideology. I tend to agree. This is what will make it very difficult for the PDP to rise. The leaders of the PDP, by their very rapacious and unprincipled nature, are not naturally equipped to play opposition well. They would rather decamp to join 'success' than remain in the PDP to build it into a Party Nigerians can identify with and view as a viable alternative.

In every contest, there must be a winner and a loser. Laugh while you can.
Indeed. Yet the plight of the PDP is good for Nigeria because leaders can begin to understand that they are accountable to the people and will be judged based on this come election time. PDP deserves everything it got because the Party ruined millions of Nigerian lives callously and cruelly. The APC too must lead Nigeria well and do/provide what it has accused the PDP of not doing/providing for Nigerians otherwise Nigerians will toss them out as well ASAP. That is how it should be in a vibrant democracy where power truly resides with the people.

If not 2019, then we shall wait till 2023. Afterall PDP ruled for 16yrs before we lost to APC.

One thing is certain, PDP shall be back.

Thanks Sir.
My man, you are welcomed. Always nice to encounter a polite and decorous PDP supporter. I personally want a strong opposition Party to challenge the APC also but the only way that can happen is for all PDP leaders, post May 29th, to perform out of their skin for the next few years and be a vibrant opposition to the APC. This is something I don't think the PDP has the personnel to do. Nonetheless, I wish you well. In Buhari, I think Nigeria has gained a President who can pursue the fundamental and badly-needed reforms that can launch Nigeria towards greatness.

Too badt.

Defectors are allowed to leave, we shall rebuild the party and bounce back in 2019.

PDP, Power.
I doubt you will get the chance. I get the impression the APC will deliver on power supply, security, refining of crude, corruption and tackle some major problems of Nigeria the PDP has worsened for that its members can profit from Nigeria's misery. I also think young, modern and pro-people APC governors like El-Rufai, Tambuwal et al will deliver. I cannot see "bounce back" strategy for the PDP unless APC give them one.

The party just dislodged the acclaimed Africa's largest party with its Federal might and you disturbing it about. Well thanks for the concern, Tinubu will look into it.

#change!
I really don't get his argument at all. APC won everywhere and now control the executive and legislative arm of Nigeria plus gained more Governors than the Party had going into the elections. Is it then the APC that should be "worried" with control of all arms of government that can help it make a big difference, performance-wise, and win massively in 2019 across Nigeria? Or is it the PDP that is now only strong in the SE/SS, humbled in the legislative houses and even conceded States to the APC? Some people love sentimental argument they assume hides their real motivation for speaking.

How do you explain losing your electoral value by 87% which is unprecedented in the last 4 years? I can categorically tell you that the leaders of APC in Lagos are seriously worried. We are talking facts here and not sentiments, if you like like continue to bury your heads in the sand. Losing 87% electoral credibility in an important state like Lagos is no joke.
I really don't know what you are trying to say. The big picture is that APC won at the centre and retained Lagos. Now the Party has the chance to use federal might to take Lagos to far greater heights meaning all this your talk is irrelevant as voters will only remember the Party that birthed real change everyone can see and feel.
