I love OAU IFE.

Men, I stayed in Unilag hostels during NUGA 98. Those hostel rooms were like prison slots. Toilet facility was also abysmal. To cap the whole thing, The whole of UNILAG land mass is just the size of AWO HALL in OAU!!
UI- UI is old and tired and new things have stopped happening there.
*IFE is the first ICT compliant University with a five floor world class "Computer Building" as early as 1995.
*The only university that has a Power dam on the campus.
* The only university that has a world class conference centre on campus.
* The one university that has a first rate Nuclear research centre on Campus.
*The only Nigerian university that has a Short-take-off-and Landing facility for Aircrafts. and It could go on and on.
The cost of IFE Campus will build atleast two UI and atleast six UNILAG.
IFE, The school of Lions!! Go and ask OBJ, Ahmadu Alli, Shagari, ABacha and IBB. They will tell you of their tales of that wonder institution situated on the hills where paradise confluence with the earth. Believe it or not, an encounter with the OAU environment is not only a cultural pilgrimage but also a spiritual revolution for those who appreciate goodness. OAU IFE, I will always love you.

If you've been to UI and UNILAG and you're a graduate from IFE (A school hidden on the hills where paradise confluence with the earth) You can t help being proud and heady because you know for sure that IFE is way ahead of the other two structurally and culturally. I think much of the impression a lot of Nigerians (especially Lagosians) have about UNILAG is because of the school's placement in Lagos. This exposes the school to positive press and social glamour. Now, positive press, glamour girls, and pump are not the things that make a great learning institution In Nigeria, Ife is the real deal!

I have been to all three schools and I think, of the 3 schools, UNILAG fare worse in terms of Structures, conducive learning environment, culture, and history. OAU stands head and shoulders above the other two in terms of structures, layout and land mass. I wont go into the issue of the quality of graduates because there is no clear parameter for measuring that. So my Pick of the three is 1. OAU 2. UI and thats all cos that rough UNILAG ain't on my list .

Yes, the banks need to advertise on big media like CNN. The 419 SCAM has done much damage to foreign investment drives towards Nigeria. Appearance of Nigerian owned Fitch rated banks on CNN serves to reassure potential foreign business partners. Though sometimes I feel that with all the negative press emanating from Nigeria it's a kinda outa place, but on the bigger picture, it's OK.

This brings to my mind the many examples of failed projects in Nigeria e.g Ajaokuta Steel company, petroleum refineries, health services, PHCN, state water boards, education system, public governance, law enforcement, poverty alleviation schemes, rural development programme, road maintenance agencies, electioneering system, to mention but a few.

I couldn't help wondering aloud that the G8 need not bother itself. The fantasy Nigerian Nuclear programme will die a Nigerian natural death just like every single thing ever initiated by the abysmally corrupt Nigerian system. What's your take on this?

Blaming the Nigerian system failure on oil just points to the truth that we've not learnt anything from our years of suffering. Even if agriculture and tax were to be our mainstay, the economy could still be crippled by wanton indiscipline and leadership kleptomania. If that were the case, we may then very well blame our misfortunes on Agriculture and tax!! . Nigeria will never know peace and prosperity till it purges itself of corruption and bad leadership. What Nigeria needs today is neither more barrels of oil output, economic alternatives to oil, nor more direct foreign investment. What we need is a change of attitude and perspective. Though our parents have messed up this country and our lives, for the sake of the children yet to be born, we need to have faith in the future of the country. Above all, Nigeria is in dire need of a greater leader in the mold of Kwame Nkuruma and Mahatma Ghandi. A real leader can turn around this dire situation within a very short time.

Nigerian Administrators tend to tackle issues from the wrong end of the rope. The question that should come to mind is- Why would people spray Naira in the first place?? Answer? If you have these facts then you are OK to have said Nigeria will bounce back. However, comments from this column have shown that most Nigerians dont see this facts happening in the present or the nearest future. Which means your FACTS are wrong! Then any of the following two applies to your situation-

2. ASSUMPTION: i.e the principle of "E go better". While it's not bad to be optimistic, this kind of optimism is not realist because there is little in the present day football to show that "E go better"

3. "NIGERIA IS THE BEST" SYNDROME: The statements associated with this sickness includes: "even if we no get coach we go still win" "Nigeria suppose win the world cup now-now" Nigeria has the best team in the universe" " God is on our side!" " Nigeria fit form 2teams wey fit win Nations cup"etc.

Analysing your problem with the above 3 situations, It can be said that you fall in category 3 . That makes you a fanatic and a dangerous person.
The fact is that 2000 - 2008, Nigeria slowly descended from Nations cup runners up to 1st round strugglers, We failed to qualify for world cup and Super Eagles received the heaviest defeat in 10years (4-1 bashing by Ghana. The last of such defeats  was 5-1 by holland b4 France 98)
I am sorry to say that you've not seen anything yet. If we fail to learn from the past 10years (as history have shown that Nigeria is a dullard at learning from its past. We started struggling big time after Atlanta 96, yet nothing has been learnt and no stable football system had evolved) we will descend further and Even Djibouti may come and beat us in Lagos (I thought I heard you say God forbid)
