If at all if you end up falling for it, make sure you Hakimize the whole situation......Cuz that gwnder and TRUST are two different lines apart that can never ever meet....

A word is enough for the wise...

In recent times, I am bothered about your posts. Are you that hurt or you just decided to join the band wagon of wailers on here?

If you cook the stew with beef from brisket or cheek, I'll take that one otherwise no preference between beef and chicken.
As for fish, I am not too much of a fan but can settle for cat fish water soup.

Try Google and talk to immigration lawyers. I think it is possible iff the married the step mother before the son was 18.

3 years isn't even enough to understand the true character of a Nigerian banny let alone 2 months shocked. Na strong armed robber motor this man just enter so,but funny enough,he go realize for inside the marriage angry

I would like to disagree with you on the bolded. There is a place of discernment in choosing who to settle down with and it is not time dependent.

Crime / Re: Six EndSARS Protesters Found Guilty, Realeased By Lagos Court After 4 Years by GboyegaD(m): 7:46am On Aug 23
ElevationD:
Ok.

Thankfully the matter came to an end, but with the accused wasting four previous years in detention.
Hopefully they are able to quickly reintegrate into society and make better use of their lives and times.
Endsars was a painful experience in the nation, with many youths losing their lives, people and government losing properties. Hopefully the citizens are not pushed to the brink, triggering such reactions anymore.

The same release should go to those who are either unjustly detained, or awaiting trial for many years over for offenses, for which their sentences are just for three or six months.

If the people haven't been pushed to the brink now, they will never get to the brink.
Family / Re: How Do I Locate My Dad? by GboyegaD(m): 5:28am On Aug 23
montanaguy:
I was born 51years ago. My dad is a Yoruba man from Ondo State, his name is Olu from what I was told. My mum is an Igbo.

From what I was told. My Father and my mother met after the civil war. He was in the Nigerian Army. He was serving at Agulu, in Anambra State. That was where they met.

From what I heard, they were dating when my mother took in. My grand father was not happy that my mother took in outside wedlock and instructed her to return back home. She returned back and stayed with my grand father and grand mother until she gave birth to me.

I was told my father came while she was pregnant to pay the bride price but, my mother avoided him. He came on two occasions and when he was fed up, he stopped coming. Up till now, my father does not know my mother gave birth to me.

That was the last time he came. He later went back to Ondo State. I grew up with my grand father and mother because, my mother married to another man.

As I was growing up, I started asking my grand father and mother who is my father? Nobody was able to connect me to my father. They are late now. Even my mother denied that, she does not know where he hails from in Ondo State, she only knows that he is from Ondo State.

To cut the story short, I am eager to connect and know who is my father but my mother is not helping matter. She has refused to give me the clue on how to locate him.

Please, how can I locate my father since my mother is proving difficult? Can it be possible for me to do this without her?

You may want to use local radio stations in the South West perhaps, he's a lover of listening to radio. Does your mother remember any of his name, if yes, you can approach the Nigerian Army. They might have an archive that can lead you to either him or his friends.

@MrGboyegaD

I have googled as you have recommended, and this is what i have discovered ;

1. United States (as a specimen) has officially 5,300 Universities (The main academia).

2. Now, let's break down order of ranks of regular University faculty : We have (Full) Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor. Some Universities have ' Distinguished Professor or University Professor. Let's not forget Professor Emeritus ( retired professors).
The aforementioned are PhD degree holders working in the main academia.

3. Let's go to USA Industries: As at last- year 2023, the United States has approximately, 623,000 Manufacturing Industries, with " Research Scientists (PhDs holders) who focus on developing new products and technologies, and who applies science to solve problems in the marketplace. Research Scientists also works in the academia, because they reports all new breakthroughs back to the Universities and other higher institutions of learning.

4. Therefore, back to your claim sir , how will more than 60% of PhD holders in the United States work outside academia ?
I accept that very few PhD holders walk-away with their certificates, but how will those few beat the main PhD holders working in sense 2 & 3 above?

5. I am open to genuine correction and honest opinions.

Best Wishes 🙏

Oga, stop rationalizing a fact you can check. There are resources online to help you. This has nothing to do with your emotions/reasoning.

** Why is Bias and one sided judgements your hallmarks ? I have lived in the United States for straight 2 yrs, exited and re-entered, and must i reside in the United States to have a functioning brain ?

** Don't be blind to the base of the argument because you want to support your click.
Out of 100 PhD holders worldwide , how many % are not working in the academia ?

** Your 14 years PhD degree is ceremonial. PhD in what ? From which institution , and what is your contribution towards your area of study and yourself ? 14 years PhD degree holder who has not for once written an essay on developments on Nairaland.

On your second point, Google is your best friend.

That’s exactly what the govt expects

And that’s why they don’t feel any urgency to fix the problems they created.
They know that bad as e bad, hunger won’t kill everyone.

If they were at a real risk of a serious uprising due to their inactions and no support at all from diaspora remittance, they’d have fastened their belts by now and done something

It is saddening that they couldn't provide a breakdown of what the remittances are for. I feel they think this is an achievement the way it is worded, the reason they talked about the increase without the purpose knowing many will likely celebrate it without questioning.

It would have been nice if you were reasonable in your response. Granting licenses to more MTO and increase in remittance means nothing if we do not have a breakdown of what the remittances are for.

Many platform when you are transferring funds to Nigeria ask you to choose the reason for the transfer thus, giving full information shouldn't be hard for transparency purpose.

I am an economists and my question is very right. Therefore, you here are the illiterate who has no understanding but is blown away by lengthy write up.

What is the major purpose of the remittance? If it is to support family members back home, I am not sure this is an achievement except if the government expects hardworking Nigerians to depend on family members abroad.

1. Don't come and cause confusion or animosity because you knows nothing about this subjects. Everything you know is bragging that you are living in America.

2. I accepted @Chidiakwari's point because it's a fact while my point is the truth. Can you read your lie yourself ? Less than 40% of the PhD holders you know are in academia - Do you know the meaning of academia ?

3. So, you are saying 65% of the PhD holders you know are bankers , industrialist, politicians , musicians , business executives , pastors , etc please can you mention 5 of those people you know ?

4. PhD studentship has the highest drop-out rates of all academic levels, therefore, without real passion for teaching, real passion for research, and real passion for constant reading of books in a particular subject (s), then, less than 2% out of 10 PhD students without those listed passion will eventually graduate.

5. @Chidiakwari's point was the fact because very very few people outside academia have bagged doctorate degree without passion to teach or research or to continue reading , while my point is the truth (85% of the time occurrence) because even right from the PhD application, you must display ability to teach or research, or love for academia, as well as ability to propose for grants (SOP), before your application can be considered.

6. PhD students and their family are being funded, cared for and insured in healthcare because of what ? Because for them to stay put in the academia and continue teaching upcoming world-changers what they have learnt.

Oga, read from past 3 if you want to know more about my profile and stop arguing. To make things easier for you, you can select 10 schools and look through their graduate placements. A simple Google search can also help reinforce your observation from the exercise. That will help you rather than act all knowing when it is obvious you don't.

That said, I stated clearly of the many PhD holders I know, less than 40% are in academia.

1. Why do you like to dispute genuine opinions ? What i think you should do is to give your version of the answer , not disputing someone who created time to answer the Original OP. If you have a friend who told the VO otherwise, must you state it here ? And how many percentage of that occurrence have had VISA success ?

2. @studyless123 have said the Embassy's mind , why are you disputing him in order to bring your friend's story ? The rule is that you must proof ties , and availability of funds , genuiness of purposes and post graduation plans. If Nigeria does not have a cancer research center your friend can go to Australia, Canada or Germany. Must he go to USA? Stop disregarding others opinions with cooked up stories.

PS: Find unanswered questions and give your opinion, stop interrupting others opinions. Every OP knows genuine answers , you are not a nairaland police.

Everyone is entitled to share their response and we need not create fears in people. If you (friends) have experience different from the general thoughts, sharing it should help create balance and reinforce hope.

It is generally believed/assumed you should return home after studies but it isn't cast in stones and not everyone is asked that question. Therefore, it is a fallacy to generalize everyone must have told the Visa Officer they will be returning home after studies.

That someone has a contrary view to yours shouldn't irk you if your intentions are genuine.

Not everyone’s reason of going or succeeding after a PhD is to go into academia. You certainly can thrive well in the industry.

All applicants for F1 (nonimmigrant) visas must demonstrate strong ties to their home country to show that they intend to return home after their studies and have reasons to do so. Any indication of immigrant intent will lead to the visa being denied, and that includes insufficient plans or motivation for return.

Where is this stated? I have a friend who was asked directly and he told the VO that would be believe should be say he will return when he's done. He told him Nigeria doesn't have the lab to do cancer research and with the knowledge he will be equipped with, he wouldn't be able to utilize it in Nigeria. He said the VO smiled.
