hello house,

can is submit airbnb booking as proof of accomodation for a business meeting visa of 6 days?
To be on the safe side if you can pay better. But some have scaled through PoE with just booking (that's an exception rather than the norm)

Please, I wish to ask if insurance is needed for south African tourist visa of 7 days. More so, do I need to indicate in my introduction or cover letter the planned itinerary...by that I mean the places I will visit and the days I will do this. Please help as I will be going to Abuja to submit my application. Thanks
Insurance is not needed, yes you can include your itinerary.

Hello house!

I'm an Engineer by profession a Phone and Computer Engineer precisely, I would love to know the possibility of me setting up a shop to run my Engineering business down in South Africa because I was recently grated a six month visa, though I intend on applying for a resident permit once I got there but I would also love to know if I can still set up my shop with my current six months visa.

Your kindly response will be greatly appreciated.
If your visa is a visitor visa, you aren't allowed to work or study. In order words, you can't set up a business (legally) with this category of temporary visa.

Also, what are the possible ways of getting visa extension when one is already in the country...? Can applying for short courses help?
1.It's possible to apply for extension on a visitor's visa

2. Your visitors visa will clearly state work or study not permitted

We will not stop you from going o!
The locals here are unemployed, no one will give you any decent job w/o valid permit unless of course you plan to do something illegal.
Anyway it seems that your mind is made up.

It's no longer possible to change status on visitor's visa in SA.

I don't agree with your post. There is nothing wrong with Kenyan Airways. The only things that could be wrong is if the traveller does not have a valid document at the point of entry . I have used Kenya Airways from Nigeria and there was no issue for me at the point of entry.
Please "loud" it for those at the back.

Instead of arguing about which airline used at POE will be returned rather advise people to hold some few dollars for the the immigration officer Incase he wants to return you because of issues that can be overseen, because they collect bribe.
People like you the problem of Nigeria.

90 days stay on what Visa category? multiple or single entry? My logic does not tell you every single person flying to SA on a visit Visa will be returned if they use a different airline other than SAA. I have friends that used Rwand air for the first time and were. I also have friends that were not returned, came back again using SAA and were accepted. Don’t compare a passport with travel history to a virgin one on one month visit visa. It is only adviseable to you their national carrier as they mostly don’t bother at POE OR thambo or ask you tons of questions or verification. Also SAA is direct flight.

A British immigration officer and a South African immigration officer are not THE SAME so it cannot be saying the same thing.
It's categorically false to suggest that PoE officials at OR Thambo discriminate based on if travellers either first timer or frequent traveller don't use SAA.

It's simply not true and very misleading.

Questions that are asked at OR Thambo are usually at the discretion of the PoE official and not based on the airline the passengers use.

And if the traveler is found wanting, he/she may sent back and not because they didn't fly with SAA.

First timer
Virgin passport
Visitors visa
Multiple entry

And he didn't fly SAA

Summary of everything I have said on this subject is that PoE who have issues at OR Thambo do so most likely because they don't have their story straight, incomplete documents or issues with accommodation but not because they didn't fly SAA.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by Geenosko:

Please say on fact and what you know. They do so
It is a well known fact. If you’re a frequent flyer over here or have friends flying over here
I am and have used different airlines including SAA (and as far back as Arik), the airline doesn't determine your treatment at poe. Its akin to saying that you get special treatment at Heathrow because you fly British Airways.

I stand by what I said earlier. PoE officials at OR Thambo don't discriminate based on the airline you use. If you are qualified for entry, you will be granted and not based on the airline you use.

I have two people in came into SA last week, both first timers. One Used SAA was given two weeks stay, the other used Air Namibia and was given 90 day stay. Going by your logic, the reverse should have been the case.

Any one who's coming to SA, if you can afford SAA fine (saves you time on transit) if you can't, use any airline that you can afford.

Found this thread and had to register on Nairaland.

I’ve lived in Southafrica for 6months now. And I just got my residential permit today. Don’t let anyone deceive you. I live in sandton and have visited Soweto, Pretoria and Capetown. The lowest you can get here on a furnished apartment in sandton is R30k. Sandton, Morningside and Rivonia are not close to any university. You must be rich to stay in these areas. Midrand is okay. Greenstone is okay. Sunnyside is okay. If you cannot afford sandton and it’s suburbs. Stay in your school dorm or housing. Unless you’re ready to be toughened. Braamfontein, Yeoville, Rosentenville, Randburg (420, Randburg square and environs) are not safe.

If you’re planning on renting a non furnished apartment not under your school, you must be willing to know your way. And ready double your first month rent to be paid as caution.

Buy foodstuffs at Jburg south. If you buy at Randburg. Your money will disappear and you won’t know what you spent it on.

Yes, when you get to hillbrow there are signs saying you’re now in a crime hotspot.
This again is not entirely correct.

IT IS NOT ADVISABLE TO BOOK KENYAN AIRWAYS COMING TO SA AS A FIRST TIME VISITOR. ALOT OF PEOPLE FACE HARD TIMES AT PEOPLE AND HAVE BEEN RETURNED BACK WITH NO VALID REASONS. USE THEIR NATIONAL CARRIER.
This is not exactly true.
The poe officials don't discriminate based on the airline you use.

Banks where? Malls are only rampant in sandton and suburbs. ATMS are always in every Garage. There’s an extra R50 charge for every withdrawal
The reason I was specific with the locations is because elsewhere its easier for them to fit in skimming devices that can read your card info hence the need for absolute caution.

I think they look at your resumption and your intended date of travel.

Please anyone knows how safe the inner CBD is in J'borg I got a student resident- Saragota Village @ 3900 per month. It is for UJ and Wits students. Already paid to fulfil visa conditions.

Any info about daily transit from the CBD to Wits in Braafontein-costs, safety and any concerns. The student residence address is 13 Saratoga Avenue Doomfortein and the faulty/school address is 1 Jan Smuts avenue Braamfontein.

General useful info for a new student will be appreciated.
If you are referring to joburg cbd, that area is rugged.
Stay safe and alert

As per daily transit unless you are very buoyant financially, u will be using taxi's (buses) else u use taxify or Uber

Since you are a babalawo u have nothing to be scared of grin

Arrived safely in Johannesburg today, on my visa I was told to not use more than 2 weeks but at the POE I was stamped in for a month , does that mean I can use a month or follow the instruction on the visa ?
It means that each visit must not exceed two weeks so please stick to the instruction o.

Depending on your budget the following areas are relatively OK (though safety is of the Lord)

Randburg
Fourways
Sandton
North Gate

If you are using booking.com it's advisable to pay before coming to avoid stories that touch at POE.

hi everyone, has anyone here ever talked their way through South Africa immigration without a visa? I know its unrelated to the post but i haven't been able to find anything helpful on this. Traveling to Mauritius, feb 12 with my gf, South African Airlines Business class, there's a 19 hrs stop over on the way back and it would be too long to spend in the transit hotel. Its too late to apply for a visa because it takes forever to receive a decision. Has anyone ever been lucky to talk their way into being allowed into the country for a couple hours? I have visited the country in the past 2013 and i didn't violate their visa terms. Thanks
You need a visa to enter the country else you will have to enjoy the transit area grin

Usually for airlines that have sense, with long layovers, they are supposed to arrange for accommodation for you.

@nijaman3, you sounded it clear that coming to Canada on visiting visa and hoping to make it is suicidal.
Can you inform us what life is like for people coming with visitors visa - availability of jobs, hourly pay, expenses and likely savings.
No one will give you any decent job as an illegal migrant, rent house to you, you can’t easily access health care. Life as an illegal immigrant in Canada is suicidal.

Again people will think it's bad Belle but anyone considering it should think again

Good Morning House, Thanks for your advice so far......
I have a question please.......I have a friend in capetown, who is ready to accommodate me and I also have a brother going for a programme in same capetown(We are flying together), who is also ready to accommodate me in his hotel.

So please house, should I still book for my hotel cos of SA immigration questioning or I should just tag along with my brother.

Thanks for your quick response......
Both of you may most likely encounter different POE officials so let your host(which ever one you choose) put it in writing that he's accommodating you and attach relevant documents which you would present at the PoE

Lol SAA is for big boys nau.

But kenya or Rwanda Airline doesn't always have long layover times sha.

Do have a great time in Mzanzi.
