1. Yes. So long as the child was born in South Africa and as you said the parents are permanent residents.

2. They allow dual citizenship but the terms vary depending on the circumstances.

As per the child needing if a visa, if you can get a Nigerian passport for the child then no need for visa.

But again home affairs officials can be very interesting sometimes so you may need to speak to a lawyer there to help guide you.

The parents should apply for passport for the child using the unabridged birth certificate and their ID documents.

Then, if the child is travelling with either parent alone, they should have a letter stating that the other parent who is not travelling gives his/her consent for the child to travel with the dad/mum as the case may be.

This last past is very important.

I stand to be corrected but the above info is not totally correct. I will advise you to try to secure a research supervisor for your PhD.. You may then proceed to apply for NRF, CSIR or other bursaries. CSIR alone offers about R130k per year equivalent to #3.9m, just for your living expenses and accommodation.

NRF, CSIR gives priority to South Africans and Permanent Residents and even at that not every Supervisor has access to these funds. Not impossible but under the present circumstances, its makes it a whole lot more difficult

Just come with warm clothing.
If you are a first timer in temperate climates, it may be really cold but overall the temperatures are increasing so you should be fine.

1. Please my question is with regards accommodation. I have a friend willing to accommodate me in that period but I am skeptical with regards testimonies of persons here commenting about having proof of hotel reservation/ booking to cover your period of stay. I wish assistance on what to do as I am looking towards cutting cost the best way possible and booking for the 14 days will be sapping.

If your friend is a legal resident, let him scan his/her passport pages that contains his bio data and his valid permit, then write a letter indicating that he would be accommodating you for the said period. This should be fine. He should include his phone number too. You can present this at the POE.

I am a south african and got too many naija buddies. I know what they are up to good and bad. This kind of killing is infact happens usually amongst drug dealers. A few months back two rich nigerian brothers disappeared after been called by their tanzanian supplier who had truck a deal for them to start manufacturing nyaope, a drug that is highly addictive. It's not really about the GPA.
These schools are mostly research oriented so if you aren't intellectually curious with no clearly defined research history and maybe future, they wouldn't admit you.

So long as they are a legal entity and can give you a valid employment contract indicating the you fall under the critical skill permit category , you are good to go. You can even apply for critical skills without job offer so long as you can provide proof of funds to sustain your self for one Year.

It's best you apply from Nigeria.
Change of status on a visitors visa is extremely difficult.

Go to home affairs website, read the requirements and package your application well and you are good to go.

Usually the visa should have "returned ticket waived" on it otherwise it shouldn't be an issue.

The experts can add but I reckon that trying to switch from a visitors visa to student while in Canada shows the VO that you probably didn't respect the conditions of the visit visa hence the subsequent refusals.

And if the reasons for the previous refusals haven't been addressed, you may be refused again.

I suggest that you request for your GCMS notes from the last refusal (so we don't second guess) then you take it up from there.
