So I'm still unsure what the specs would be then I read all this 6v, 12v 24v all flying around and I'm confused.

Im a bit more knowledge of the range of brand names but my plan is to first buy the inverters and batteries then when I get more cash add the solar panels next.

Every sytem shld be designed and calculated. Not just purchasing what is available or presumed best.

3kva is advisable to be a 24v setup. Meaning 12v arrays in series or 6v in 4 series strings. 24v batteries are not commercially available for inverter or solar power systems.

You solar panels provide the electricity that charges the batteries. If you don't have more solar panels than what is required to fully charge the batteries within 8hrs, it is best you leave the system to charge up and only use when it must have been fully charged by evening, BUT this does not mean you can't use solar power during the day, it just means it would need more panels and you will be paying more than N480,000 for that. the amount of panels to be added will depend on the electronics/appliances you want to use in the day time. So it is not limited to night use, all depends on what the client can afford and what is to be powered

So if my requirements are
20 bulbs(20 watts)
2LCD TV's
2 ceiling fans
1 industrial fan(not sure about the wattage)
2laptops.


I need an inverter set up for this with the cost for solar power charging it.

In terms of PHCN we get at least 12hours a day. I just don't want to have to use PHCN to charge the batteries and I don't want to use the house generator to charge unless I have to.

PS. My home does not have the typical slope roof. Its built like a rectangle and water drains from the roof through pipes

There are batteries that will last at least five years and those batteries, i have used up to 8 years before the efficiency was not able to keep up with basic needs. Trojan brand is good. The Gel lead acid last very long also but need more caution or special charge controllers to keep with the gel cell charging parameters.
3 year battery is maybe a very poor quality battery if not the cheapest option. There is no reason to not have a bttery for at least 5 years and it is worth paying the extra for top brands with proven track record. Mine were still holding a minimal usable charge after Ten years and lots of abuse such as overcharging and short circuit from erroneous parallel linking of some batteries in the storage bank. I had the T-105 trojans.

But yes you are so right about the long term cost efficiency of Solar over generator fuel alone, not to mention the cost of the generator and service to the machine. Some generators are no good any more after three years also.

My brother I know. I have to use the worst case scenery to explain. Even if u are using the average luminous and co batteries that are common in the market, it still cheaper than using generator everyday.

With about 450 Billion naira, Nigeria can generate about 6000Mw, from solar, wind and wave energy with our existing hydro plants. but truth is NO government is serious about energy generation. I mean NOT GEJ, NOT OBJ, NOT BUHARI. They are all UNSERIOUS. Wish them the best ripping off nigerians with their BILLION DOLLARS power projects that has yielded insignificant results. Mtchew. gas power plants costs a lot to run. When we have free energy wasting away every day.
