Six suspected kidnappers arrested in Lagos
By Jude Isiguzo Published Yesterday News Rating: Unrated
The police in Lagos yesterday paraded six suspected kidnappers, who allegedly abducted a one-year-old boy.

A fake property developer, who collected N5.8 million from 32 people for 15 apartments, was also paraded.

The alleged kidnappers were said to have demanded a N10 million ransom for the release of their victim.

Among the kidnap suspects are a 16-year- old girl in whose custody the boy was kept; an undergraduate of Business Administration from the Abia State University, Uturu, and a pastor in one of the new generation churches.

The prime suspect, Ikenna Uzo, a 24-year-old apprentice, said he needed money for the recording of his musical video album and since nobody was willing to sponsor him, he decided to go into crime.

He said their victim is the son of his neighbour at Trade Fair International Market where he is an apprentice in a bureau de change.

Narrating how the crime was carried out, Uzo told The Nation that the boy walked into his office last Thursday, and immediately he came in, he told his master’s son, Chimezie Eze, a 100-level undergraduate student, to assist him take the boy away.

He said the abducted boy was kept in an hotel in Olodi-Apapa.

The next day, he called the pastor and told him about the baby.

Uzo said he gave the pastor the boy’s mother’s phone number and directed him to demand N1 million since he (Uzo) would need only N250, 000 for the album recording.

The pastor called the boy’s parents and demanded a N10 million ransom, threatening to kill the boy if the money was not paid.

It was learnt that the boy’s parents suspected Uzo’s involvement and subsequently informed the police who arrested him.

At the station, Uzo confessed to the crime and also named his accomplices.

The property developer, Abiodun Atanda, allegedly collected money from unsuspecting house seekers for a yet-to-be completed building and escaped with the money.

He was arrested by the police, following information from some of his victims.

Police spokesman Frank Mba said the cases are being investigated, adding that the suspects will soon be charged to court.

eGuerrilla: Please support this assertion with proof.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police Ikemefuna Okoye yesterday narrated how Mrs. Muibat Salaam, wife of Osun State House of Assembly Speaker Najeem Salaam, was rescued from her abductors.

Mrs. Salaam was abducted last Tuesday in Ejigbo, Osun State, by gunmen.

She was rescued on Saturday in Ogunmakin, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Speaking with reporters while parading the suspected kidnappers in Eleweran, the Command Headquarters, Okoye said members of the Vigilance Services of Ogun (VSO) noticed the suspicious movement of the kidnappers and their victim and alerted the police.

He said the Fidiwo Police Division deployed men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and plain-clothed policemen in the area, where the suspects were hiding in the bush.

Okoye said: “My men moved into the bush and engaged the suspects in a gun duel, killing one of them. Four were apprehended and the others ran away with bullet wounds.

“It was after we rescued the victim that she told us who she was. Let the record be set straight that the police carried out the rescue operation.”

The suspects are Chukwuma Usifo (28), Chukwudi Okereke (25), Ogbole Elijah and Okonkwo Lucky (27).

Items recovered from the suspects include two AK 47 rifles and four magazines with 87 rounds of ammunition.

Okoye praised members of the VSO for providing information that led to the arrest of the suspects and the rescue of Mrs. Salaam, who has been reunited with her family.

He urged the public to be security-conscious and always alert security agencies when they notice suspicious movements.

afam4eva: It has always been the kidnap capital of the SW while Aba takes the cake for the SE. I think Ogun is benefitting from it's closeness to Lagos in all spheres both positive and negative.
And so sad it's guys from the SE that are mostly behind these crimes

BALLER ON: No money -simple , budget is too small to afford one. What they can afford are bullet proof jeeps and frequent foriegn trips in business class.
If Taraba State can afford private jets, why cant any state in the SW

Here we have set our priorities straight and that's why we are the most developed region in the country

manny4life: You're very funny. You wanna eat your cake and have it back? You posted your GDP claims without facts, YT you want someone to do the same?

BTW, GDP is just a mere number, what matters is the per capita or perhaps measuring poverty. You can have all the GDP available, but if the poverty rate is high, it's meaningless.
Okay there you go

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nigerian_states_by_GDP

The GDP of states in Nigeria shows that even if you take away the GDP of Lagos, the GDP of the other states in the SW is still higher than that of the SE. Even Oyo has a higher GDP than any state in the SE

Also below is a link showing the unemployment and poverty rate for states in Nigeria

http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/information

You will see that the unemployment and poverty rates in the SW is far lower than that of the SE.

So what are we talking about here?
