Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist who founded Nigerian online news organization Sahara Reporters and ran for president as a minor candidate of African Action Congress in the February election, was arrested by the State Security Service on Saturday, 3rd August 2019. The detention comes as President Muhammadu Buhari, who won a second term in the election, faces criticism for his administration’s record on human rights, particularly a lethal crackdown on protesting followers of a Shi’ite leader who remains in detention despite a court order that he be freed. It will be recalled that the activist, Sowore was detained and also brutalised for his activism during the regime of the maximum ruler, Gen. Sani Abacha. However, many Nigerians have since the arrest took their social media to press home their displeasure over what they described as 'anti-democracy', and called on all International observers to come to their rescue. Here are the facts you may like to know more about Sowore's arrest and detention: Read more at: http://community.vanguardngr.com/profiles/blogs/seven-facts-about-sowore-s-arrest

As a keen observer of good governance, I am persuaded to write to you this open letter. I decided to make it an open letter because the issue is very cumbersome and must be greatly worrisome to all concerned Kogites and the right thinking members of the society who are residents in Nigeria. Since the issue is of utmost concern to all well-meaning and all right-thinking Nigerians, it must be of great concern to you, and writing through this medium would help to bring an appropriate and adequate solution to the problem. The contents of this letter, therefore, should be able to resolve the issue of epileptic payment of salary and the delayed bursary payment that have bedeviled our dear state in recent times. One of the hallmarks of a good government is the ability to meet the needs of its citizens as at when deemed fit. This is sine qua non to the betterment of any democracy in the world whether it is being practiced at the federal, state or grassroots level.
