No thanks to the ongoing invasion in Ukraine as the largest plane in the world, Ukraine’s Antonov-225 cargo plane, was reportedly destroyed by Russian strikes outside Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital city on Sunday.

This was disclosed by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Twitter.

According to reports, the aircraft was unique to the world, at 84 meters long (276 feet) it could transport up to 250 tonnes (551,000 pounds) of cargo at a speed of up to 850 kilometres per hour (528 mph).

It had been named “Mriya”, which means “dream” in Ukrainian.

Following the ongoing war in Ukraine, the Presidency has disclosed that 4,000 Nigerians are stranded in the country and unable to cross its borders into neighbouring Poland.

In a statement signed Sunday, by the Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), Garba Shehu, it noted the reports of Ukrainian police and security personnel refusing to allow them to board buses and trains heading towards the Ukraine-Poland border.

“While efforts to begin talks between Russia and Ukraine are underway, paramount on our minds is the safety and human rights of some four thousand Nigerian citizens and many others from friendly African nations today stranded in Ukraine.

“There is a long history dating back to decades of Nigerians and other Africans studying in Ukraine, particularly medicine. The majority of Nigerian citizens in the country today are university-enrolled students.

Chukwudi Dumee Onuamadike, popularly known as Evans, is a Nigerian billionaire kidnapper.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ikeja High Court on Friday, February 25.

Evans is a native of Nnewi, Anambra.

He was arrested in Lagos during the weekend of 10–11 June 2017.

It is no longer news as Russia’s Vladimir Putin launched an attack on Ukraine following what he described as “genocide by the democratically elected Ukrainian government”.

Putin’s latest actions come days after he tore up a peace deal and ordered troops into two rebel-held eastern regions, in his words to “maintain peace“.

Russia has deployed at least 200,000 troops near Ukraine’s borders in recent months, and there are fears that its latest move marks the first step in a new invasion, BBC reported.

The US and Russia have drawn firm red lines that help explain what’s at stake.

Russia presented the US with a list of demands, some of which were nonstarters for the United States and its allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Putin demanded that NATO stop its eastward expansion and deny membership to Ukraine and that NATO roll back troop deployment in countries that had joined after 1997, which would turn back the clock decades on Europe’s security and geopolitical alignment.

These ultimatums are “a Russian attempt not only to secure interest in Ukraine but essentially relitigate the security architecture in Europe,” said Michael Kofman, research director in the Russia studies program at CNA, a research and analysis organisation in Arlington, Virginia.

As expected, the US and NATO rejected those demands. Both the US and Russia know Ukraine is not going to become a NATO member anytime soon.

Following claims that some oil companies imported adulterated fuel into the country, Duke Oil and Oando Plc have said their imported product met Nigerian specification.

They disclosed this when they appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) investigating circumstances surrounding the importation of toxic fuel into the country on Wednesday.

The Managing Director of Duke Oil, Mr Lawal Sade, stated that the product imported by his company was certified okay both at the Port of loading and the Port of discharge by relevant authorities.

The Federal Government says that the meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will be reconvened on February 28, with the hope of calling off the one month warning strike embarked upon by the union.

No fewer than 17 persons were burnt to death on Friday in an accident involving a Mazda bus and a tanker at Ishara bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The rate of scammers in Lagos disguising as beggars has skyrocketed in the recent times with many still counting their losses to these 419.

Just this night, I single-handedly caught one at Oshodi BRT terminal while he was trying to scam people as usual.

All thanks to my journalistic instinct that propelled me to interrogate him, and in a bid, exposing his trick right in the faces of the commuters who had even fallen for his sugar-coated gimmicks.

I could vividly recall this same guy came to beg money from me last year while I was about boarding a bus home.

He lied his wife was in hard labour and he would need money to foot her medical fees, not knowing he is the devil's workmanship.

So, I collected his number (only God knows if it was fake) but couldn't reach him through not until this night that I sighted him where I stood waiting for BRT.

He actually came with a fresh demand this time, begging the commuters to assist him with some cash as he would need it to clear his goods. What a scammer!

Following the arrest of DCP Abba Kyari by the Nigeria Police Force, sources in the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said the former police chief rejected being fed with food prepared by the agency’s officials inside his cell at Gambia Street, Area 11, Garriki, Abuja.

NDLEA sources said he had been relying on food brought by a yet-to-be-identified friend, instead of eating what was prepared for him and other inmates inside the cell.
