PoliticsKogi Local Government Workers Say They Now Look To God For Survival by Gemid94(op): 7:21pm On Nov 02, 2021
Some primary school teachers and local government workers in Kogi have decried what they termed “neglect and lack of empathy for workers”.

Though the state government has been up to date with the payment of state workers, however, primary school teachers and local government workers still receive percentage salaries.

They said the policy was making life unbearable for them in view of the current economic hardship.

In a separate interviews with Vanguard, some local government workers and primary school teachers who all spoke on condition of anonymity, said since the state government tampered with their salary structure and payment system introducing one deduction after the other, many have had to contend with the new reality pursuant to the emergence of the New Direction led-government of Governor Yahaya Bello.

One of the workers who complained bitterly on phone, said she received N16,000 instead of N45,000 basic salary she ought to be paid as a Level 7 LG worker.

“As I speak to you, my son who is studying in KSU (Kogi varsity) called me to send money for him to refill his gas, but I couldn’t help but cry over the phone as a result of this critical situation in the state.

“The last salary I collected was N16,000. I am supposed to be paid N45,000 as a Level 7 worker, but the percentage salary has put me at a disadvantage,” one of the affected workers told Vanguard.

#FixOkunRoads: From potholes to boreholes

What is the essence of government when its constituents build their own houses; provide their own potable water; procure their own transmitters; build their own security apparatus and have to raise private resources, to rehabilitate their own roads?

The caption "From potholes to boreholes" is not a mere illusion but a true picture of the plights, suffering, pains, agonies of an ostracized community begging for succour, but who will hear them?

Against the backdrop, this article is carefully scripted to paint the current state of roads in Okunland, which is home to the Yoruba speaking people of Kogi otherwise known as the Okuns.

You would recall some concerned citizens of Kogi, on the platform of Apapo Omo Yagba Peace Association Road Project have been calling on the federal government and other concerned authorities in the past few days, to fix dilapidated roads in Okunland, which has been a death trap and haven for kidnappers over the years.

Subsequently, these concerned citizens started an awareness campaign with the #FixOkunRoads, advocating for the rehabilitation of abandoned roads in the region.

The question is, where is the N621.2bn federal government approved for the rehabilitation of Federal Roads in the country? There's no sense in playing political gimmicks with the mandate of the people. Kogi is entitled to the dividends of democracy and shouldn't be sidelined in the sharing formula if truly the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria is supreme.

As far as the people are concerned, there is no government when you deprive them of their right to these basic amenities needed to improve their livelihood. Good governance is all inclusive with Kogi not an exemption.

The state of Federal Roads in Okunland today have gone beyond bad to worse, as many seems to be counting their losses as a result of the negligence of the so-called leaders who have little or no empathy for the masses that voted them into power.

It's high time politicians stopped promising 'heaven on earth' all in the name of campaigning for elections when they know they won't be able to fulfill their promises to the electorates. Good governance requires sincerity and service to the people, which must be done selflessly without any iota of political gain.

The present predicament of Okuns needs government intervention across board. There is need for synergy between the state and federal governments to create good road networks for the good people of Kogi. With the availability of good road networks, the issue of insecurity and other haphazard occurrences bedeviling the state will be reduced drastically.

NYSCNYSC Ondo Boss Educates Corps Members On Scheme Publications by Gemid94(op): 12:52pm On Oct 30, 2021
The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has charged the corps members not to run foul of NYSC publications because the contents are self explanatory and easy to understand.

Council boss promises facelift for Ondo NYSC Orientation camp | Starconnect Media

The State Coordinator made the clarification when she gave lecture on the NYSC Act to the 2021 Batch 'C' (Stream 1) corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.

Mrs. Ani said that the members of the service corps should as a matter of obligation read deeply and digest properly the contents of the publications such as NYSC Act and NYSC Bye Laws.

"Gentlemen corps members, ignorance is not an excuse in a law court. NYSC engaged the services of professionally competent and academically sound experts in relative fields to produce those handbooks and it is imperative for you to take contents seriously as NYSC will not hesitate to wield big sticks against those who are found wanting."

"It is often said that if you want to hide something from a black man, put it in a publishable form but I want to disagree with the unfounded and unsubstantiated statement because I know that Nigerians are widely known to be a bookworm," she said.

"You cannot be where you are today if your academic exercise has defects and my appeal to you is that if you want a trouble-free and successful service year, you must align wholly and submit yourself totally to all the contents contained therein."

PoliticsKogi West Citizens Demand Fixing Of Kabba-Egbe-Ilorin Road by Gemid94(op): 5:36pm On Oct 29, 2021
Some concerned citizens of Kogi, on the platform of Apapo Omo Yagba Peace Association Road Project, have taken to social media to demand the fixing of Kabba-Egbe-Illorin Road.

This is coming after N621.2bn was approved by the Federal Executive Council, FEC, which the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is expected to use for the reconstruction of 21 federal roads in the country.

However, the federal government has given its approval to fix Federal Roads in some parts of the country without recourse to dilapidated roads in Kogi, Vanguard gathered.

The #FixOkunRoads, which is the official slogan for the awareness campaign, has been trending on social media for some days now, as the advocates are calling on the Federal Government to fix abandoned roads in Okunland.

They also appealed to Smart Adeyemi, the lawmaker representing Kogi West senatorial district, and other distinguished individuals in the country to come to their aid.

Speaking to Vanguard, Ben Owoleke, one of the advocates of the #FixOkunRoads, described the current state of roads in the region as “apogee of state dysfunction”.

“Truth of the matter is that it is the apogee of state dysfunction.

PoliticsWe’ll Order ESN To Go After Killers In South-East If… — IPOB by Gemid94(op): 2:38pm On Sep 30, 2021
Irked by the spate of insecurity in South-East, the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has vowed to order its security outfit, Eastern Security Network (ESN) go after the masterminds of these dastardly acts in the region.

This is coming a day after the gruesome murder of Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband to late Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Emma Powerful, the IPOB media and publicity in a statement signed Thursday, reiterated his earlier point that, the group had no hand in the incessant attacks in the region, noting that some criminal elements are sponsored to tarnish the image of IPOB.

“We are making it clear to all and sundry that if nothing is done to stop this senseless killings in our land by the enemies of Biafra, we will have no other option than to order ESN to leave the bushes and forests to towns and villages to flush out the exported killer terrorists who are bent on killing and slaughtering our people in the name of unknown gunmen while mischievously blaming their atrocities on IPOB and ESN operatives.”

CrimeHelp! Police Shielding My Fiancé 9 Years After Pouring Hot Stew On Me — Lady by Gemid94(op): 12:39pm On Sep 20, 2021
For Mary Sunday, a young Nigerian woman, life has become hell since she was allegedly assaulted by her fiancé, Isaac Gbanwuan, who is a policeman after she discovered that the latter had a low sperm count a few weeks to their marriage.

Narrating her ordeal, Mary said Isaac was diagnosed with low sperm count a few weeks before their wedding, and thinking she would leave him, he beat her up and poured hot stew on her alongside a lit stove in the process.

"On that day (August 24th, 2012) exactly 9 years ago, I and Isaac were coming home from the hospital where we went to meet his doctor. On my way back, I received a call from my relatives who was at that time traveling to Lagos from home. Network wasn't clear, I had to call back to know what was happening, as I was on the phone with her, Isaac started his fight as usual, he said I have been on the call for a lengthy period that I was talking to my lover and might have disclosed his health issue with him. When we arrived home, he started beating me. He had a habit of stripping me naked outside whenever he was angry hence I walked away initially.

"I had to rushed upstairs and went straight to his room thinking he would listen to my explanations and calm his mind. It wasn't the way I thought as Isaac became more aggressive, I was beaten to stupor in the room, I struggled out of the house and started searching for help. I escaped to his neighbour, also a very good friend to Isaac where I believed I have finally found refuge in her.

"She tried stopping Isaac but couldn't as she also received most of the punches thrown at me. She later left me with Isaac, on noticing that she has left, I escaped into her kitchen and shut the door against both of them, but couldn't lock it as Isaac was pushing it from outside, he overpowered me and had access to the kitchen, seized the woman's stove with a pot of boiling stew on it and emptied it on me."

Politics2023: South-West Youths Endorse Yahaya Bello For President by Gemid94(op): 8:04pm On Sep 15, 2021
Nigerian youths under the auspices of GYB2PYB Support Group across the South-West geopolitical zone have endorsed the 2023 presidential aspiration of governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in 2023.

The youths on Wednesday, declared their support for governor Bello during a political conference tagged: “Towards a Youthful Political Consciousness and 2023 General Elections” organised by the GYB2PYB Support Group at Grandeur Event Center, Oregun, Lagos.

The participants, who constituted members of the GYB2PYB from the six South-West States, called on compatriots in other geopolitical zones to “join the moving train” as it is high time for “youth O’Clock”.

Speaking at the event, Oladele Nihi, the Director-General of the group, said: “The brain behind the conference is to conscientise Nigerians, especially the youths on the need to support youth presidency come 2023”.

On the acronym GYB2PYP, he said; “GYB2PYB (Governor Yahaya Bello to President Yahaya Bello) was formerly AYB (Alhaji Yahaya Bello), and it is our prayer that it will be changed to PYB (President Yahaya Bello) come 2023.

“Before 2021, it was very phenomenal that the man Yahaya Bello has become an issue (centre of attraction) in Nigeria as a result of his performance in Kogi. Today, over 90% of political appointees are below 40 years. For instance, the current Chief of Staff to His Excellency, Yahaya Bello, becomes DG at the age of 32. Now, he is crawling into 36 as the CoS.

“Hence, if we can have CoS heading a sensitive position at the age of 36, it will be a good deal to have a youth leader like Yahaya Bello as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

PoliticsBenue IDP Where Women Smoke ‘To Stay Alive’ by Gemid94(op): 6:44pm On Sep 07, 2021
When it rains, the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Tse-Yandev, Benue State, North-central Nigeria, shiver in trepidation. Their tents can protect them from the sun but not the rain.

Gizan Toma, 84, sits in her tent, her eyes picking up objects around her. She is pale yet eager to light a stick of the cigarette pack in her hand. Her lighter fails to work because it was beaten by the rain. Instead, she waits for Vialumun, another woman in the camp, to bring her own lighter.

“I have been beaten by rain all through the night. Right now all my body aches and when it is like this, the only option is to smoke and feel warmth again. Smoking is beneficial at this moment because it also helps me stop thinking too much,” she says.

Perluve, 80, smokes because it helps her “not to think too much.” Until her forceful relocation to Tse-Yandev IDP camp, Perluve had never smoked.

“I used to be a good church goer in my village. I’m smoking because whenever I don’t smoke, I always think of suicide,” she explains. “While I was in the village, I was successful in the farm.”

An unfortunate story soon followed: “It happened in 2018, when four of my children were killed the same day while working on the farm. They were working when some armed men surrounded them and killed four of them at the spot. The armed men were later recognised as herders.”

“Since then, I have not been able to think straight. I wanted to go die with them but people wouldn’t let me.”

Kogi State Government has broken its silence on the viral report that a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos ordered its salary bailout account domiciled in a commercial bank to be freezed over a ₦20 billion loan obtained from the bank.

The EFCC had approached the court for the order in an ex-parte application brought pursuant to section 44 (2) of the Constitution and section 34(1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act.

Counsel to the EFCC, Abass Muhammed, told the court that the order was necessary so as to preserve the ‘res’ and abate further dissipation of the funds in the account.

Reacting, the State Commissioner of Information, Fanwo Kinsley in an ongoing press conference debunked the news, saying it is falsehood and accentuated malice carefully planned by critics to tarnish the image of the State.

A youth group under the aegis of Governor Yahaya Bello to President Yahaya Bello, GYB2PYB, has countered the claims by Tinubu Support Group (TSG) discrediting the former ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Recall supporters of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, under the aegis of Tinubu Support Group had earlier taken a swipe at the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, for asking Tinubu to drop his 2023 presidential ambition.

This was contained in a statement titled, ‘Your failure in governance has betrayed the Not-too-young-to-Run Campaign-TSG replies Yahaya Bello,’ which was signed by the Director- General of the TSG, Umar Ibrahim, in Abuja, on Sunday, August 22.

Reacting, the director of the GYB2PYB, Oladele Nihi, in a statement forwarded to Vanguard Monday, faulted the claims by Tinubu Support Group as “lacking merit and accentuated by malice”.

CrimeAEDC Staff Jailed By Court Over Unlawful Disconnection In Kogi by Gemid94(op): 10:31am On Aug 14, 2021
A magistrate court sitting in Lokoja has sentenced a staff of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Mr. James Olayemi to six months imprison with an option of N50,000 fine for unlawful disconnection of electricity supply to a customer’s house in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.

The Chief Magistrate, Tanko Muhammed, who pronounced the judgement on Thursday, also ordered for the immediate reconnection of electricity supply to the compound of the plaintiff, Mr. Dennis Osawota.

The complainant, Mr. Dennis Osawota, a retired management staff of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), had dragged the defendant, Mr. James Olayemi, the marketing officer and the Regional Manager, Lamidi Obadaki, to court over the unlawful disconnection of electricity supply to his house.

CrimeHushkyari: Holy Sinner In Circle Of Thieves by Gemid94(op): 1:43am On Aug 01, 2021
By Arogbonlo Israel

Ramon Olorunwa Abbas aka Hushpuppi, currently facing prosecution in the United States of America, accused Abba Kyari, Nigeria's celebrated super cop, as one of the beneficiaries of the $1.1million loot received from a Qatari businessman.

For some, it's a big surprise to see such a clean police chief being called out in a fruad case, while others feel indifference as the Nigeria Police Force over the years have been known for corruption while others see the development as a big blow on the image of Nigeria as one of Africa's most respected countries.

Imagine seeing one of your best police chiefs rightly tagged 'suspect' in a money laundering case involving a 'Big Alhaji' (as our Chinese brothers fondly call Nigerian fraudsters) who has been known for his flamboyant lifestyles.

The current predicament of Kyari can be best described as 'holy sinner in circle of theives', and it will take only the grace and benevolence of Buhari's regime to save him from this doom that is imminent.

Going through the antecedent to the Hushpuppi vs Kyari saga, the former according to the police chief called him 2 years back that somebody in Nigeria seriously threatened to kill his family in Nigeria and it's on this premise he started building relationship with him (Hushpuppi).

Kyari's statement partly read; "He (Hushpuppi) saw some of my native clothes and caps on my social media page and he said he likes them and he was connected to the person selling the clothes and he sent about N300k directly to the person’s account. The native clothes and caps (5 sets) were brought to our office and he sent somebody to collect them in our office. Nobody demanded any money from Abbas Hushpuppi and nobody collected any money from him.”

However, Kyari admitted to knowing about the money-related dispute between Hushpuppi and his colleague (Vincent), claiming it was on the basis of the call that latter was arrested but later released when they (police) discovered there was no life threat from the suspect.

A careful look at Kyari's line of thoughts show that he actually had conversation with Hushpuppi and it bothers on money aside the fact he claimed the money was transferred to a third party, but the question is, what has Belial got to do with Christ? The Biblical rhetoric should form a basis for one to properly dissect the dichotonomy between the duo. Could it be that Mr. Kyari is just a middleman between the embattled Nigerian socialite (Hushpuppi) and his accomplice? Why would a celebrated police chief highly respected by Nigerians go stoop so low to start up an informal conversation with a suspected fraudster in the first instance though he (Kyari) claimed it's before his arrest? There's more to this whole saga than meets the eye.

Kyari, in spite of this allegation, must either prove his innocency or otherwise face the consequences for his sins should he be declared guilty.

Abba Kyari's case is one too many. Hope the power that be won't upturn justice to favour their own just as in the case with Papa P, but truth will always prevail in the long run. As it stands right now, Kyari is just a suspect until found guilty by a competent court. The world is watching!

CrimeBetween ‘Celeb’ Hushmoney And Super Cop Kyari’s Sins by Gemid94(op): 2:08pm On Jul 30, 2021
This opinion was first published on Vanguard

It’s a big surprise for many Nigerians when they first heard the news of Hushpuppi whose real name is Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, currently facing prosecution in the United States of America, accusing Abba Kyari, Nigeria’s celebrated super cop, as one of the beneficiaries of the $1.1million loot received from a Qatari businessman.

For some, it’s not really a surprise as the Nigeria Police Force over the years have been known for corruption while others see the development as a big blow on the image of Nigeria as one of Africa’s most respected countries. CrimeHow Abba Kyari Sent Third Party Account To Hushpuppi For Payment by Gemid94(op): 5:32pm On Jul 29, 2021
Fresh details have emerged on the allegation levied against Nigeria’s celebrated police chief, Abba Kyari before a district court in the United States of America.

Vanguard had earlier reported how embattled Nigerian socialite, popularly known as Ray Hushpuppi was quoted by the US court of bribing Kyari to arrest a co-fraudster in a whopping $1.1m deal.

Mr Kyari in a statement issued on Thursday, denied the allegation, saying he did not demand any money from Hushpuppi. He, however, said he introduced the accused to a cloth seller whom Hushpuppi paid about N300,000.

In Kyari’s defence, he never demanded for a dime from Hushpuppi, admitting his focus was to save people’s lives that were purported to have been threatened.

But in a US court document seen by Vanguard, it was revealed that Kyari allegedly sent third party account to Hushpuppi for payment.

“On January 20, 2020, defendant Kyari sent an electronic message to UICC Abbas containing the account information for a bank account at a Nigerian bank in the name of a person other than defendant KYARI himself, where UICC Abbas was direct payment for the arrest and imprisonment of defendant VINCENT,” the US court document reveal.

PoliticsMan Schools Reno Omokri, Poses Questions Over Debate Between Binis & Igbos by Gemid94(op): 5:02pm On Jul 24, 2021
A netizen @maazi_ogbonnaya has replied former presidential aide and controversial author, Reno Omokri following the latter's claim on the long-standing history between the Binis and the Igbos.

Recall Reno in a long post explained that the Itsekiris and the Binis had Igbo slaves for centuries before British colonialism which brought about the mix of culture as some of the Bini took Igbo-like names and some Igbos also took Bini-like names.

He further added that there are century-old carvings in Ode Itsekiri and Benin depicting Igbo slaves being sold to the Portuguese.

Reacting, Ogbonnaya in a long post asked Reno to come up with concrete evidence to back his claim, saying he would not take him serious if he could not provide valid data to ascertain his thesis.

Read his post below;

Dear Reno,

You deleted my comment and blocked me from commenting on your Facebook page cos I told you that your nugget is now lacking maggi.

Why did I say that?

You boasted that Itshekiri had Igbo slaves centuries before the British colonization..
According to you, after the British banned slavery, you Itshekiri people were forced to set them free.
Some returned to Igbo land, others remained with you and gradually formed a new language called **** (you can't mention) About 200,000 of them are still with you.

Reno, you went further as a Harvard-Oxford historian you are to say: "I will not reveal the name of this tribe called ****, because I do not want to offend them, but they are in Delta State)".

You said also: if they speak, Igbo, Bini, Itshekiri and Portuguese will understand them too. You said they have names like Iweka, Ikenna. You claimed that is how some of your names and also Benin went into the Igbo lexicon.
You also said because of the sheer number of Igbo slaves you sold at Ogidigben, the Portuguese named the town Escravos.

Reno, I know that you know it all from politics, religion, social life, relationship, everything about life, God is learning from you because you know it all, that's why you dislike dissenting opinion.

I am not here for attack, but historical reasoning. First of all, I want to ask you questions:

What century did the Itshekiri started having Igbo as slaves? When exactly? Oh you said centuries.

From your bogus writeup that lacks academic and historical substance, you claimed your people interacted with the Portuguese perhaps in the slave business.

Reno, the first time the Portuguese came to Nigeria was in the 15th century. They started trading brass and copper, pepper, cloth, ivory. In the1490s a Portuguese trader wrote that at Benin, copper bracelets were more highly prized than brass ones.

It was later, when the slave trade became norm in other African countries that the Portuguese involved themselves into that. Their initial arrival was purely for business. They did business with Igbo, Bini and others.
