@Sagamite. Edirin is a ward of the courts and the parents had no right to take him out of the country. This is my response to you in the other thread. @Sagamite I believe that this child is really gay. Why else would he have gone straight to an organisation that supports gay teens and overlooked the other ones such as Childline or the NSPCC? At age 14 a child in the UK has the legal right to divorce their parents and so at 17 all Edirin would have to do was to gain support from the numerous child help organisations in the UK and gotten any type of order to prevent his parents taking him against his will to Nigeria. It doesn't make any sense. Given that fact the 'forced marriage' belief by Edirin is probably genuine as are the claims of excorcisms and beatings. The Law of the Land is not silly. Don't you think that they are aware of the fact that thousands of Nigerians and other non UK citizens based in the UK relocate their kids to their home countries each year? My own parents did this and I am sure you probably know of some cases too. You need to ask yourself why this case in particular has attracted a jail sentence. Edirin was probably being bullied at school for being gay too. From what I gather, this has everything to do with Edirin being gay and the fact that Edirin himself approached the gay organisation to help and they are now the ones in court fighting for his human rights. Its that straight forward. |

Congratulations to Tinie. I didn't know he was of Nigerian origin. . .Good for him! ![]() |
Sorry mods. I am not quite sure where this thread fits in so please move to the relevant part of the board. The British student who died after jetting to America for an illegal 'butt enhancement' operation thought having a shapelier backside would make her a Hip Hop star. Claudia Aderotimi, 20, believed a 'bigger booty' would help in her quest to appear in more music videos, her distraught friends have claimed. One even revealed the aspiring dancer - stagename Carmella London - was dropped from one shoot because directors discovered she had been wearing padded trousers to help enlarge her bottom. Talent scout Tee Ali, who met the university student when she filmed a video, told The Sun: 'She was a dancer and choreographer. 'The problem was she didn't have no butt, and she wanted a butt. 'She went to audition for one video shoot wearing fake booty pants and she got all the attention. 'But when they found out it was fake she didn't get asked back.' He described her as a 'victim' of social pressure to be perfect and thought a larger bottom would make her famous.' The Thames Valley University student developed chest pains and struggled for breath 12 hours after she had the illegal silicone injections at a budget hotel. She was taken to hospital but could not be saved. A preliminary examination found the silicone filler had leaked into her bloodstream, leading to heart failure. American detectives are investigating whether she was treated with cheap ‘industrial’ silicone, normally used as a sealant, rather than medical-grade material used in breast implant surgery. It was not the first time Miss Aderotimi had had the procedure. She is believed to have been treated in November and the latest injection on Monday may have been a ‘top-up’ procedure. Pressure: She was dropped from one shoot because directors discovered she had been wearing padded trousers to help enlarge her bottom. Aspiring dancer: Friends claimed Miss Aderotimi was the victim of social pressure to have a larger bottom PURSUIT OF PERFECTION Young women are taking enormous risks in pursuit of a smoother, rounder bottom, an expert said yesterday. Paul Harris, consultant plastic surgeon at the Royal Marsden hospital in London, warned against going overseas for such treatments. ‘Bottom augmentation is becoming more popular and originated in South America, in places like Brazil,’ he said. ‘More and more people are coming forward in the UK for this procedure.’ Last year a former Miss Argentina, Solange Magnano, died at 38 after a buttocks-enhancement procedure at a medical clinic in Buenos Aires. Mr Harris said he had dealt with two patients who suffered problems after receiving silicone jabs overseas. ‘The problems are two fold,’ he said. ‘Firstly, if you use a low volume amount of silicone it can promote rejection – the body trying to ward it off. That causes a long-term abscess which can damage the surrounding tissue. ‘Elsewhere in the world it has been reported to cause problems with pulmonary embolism, a blood clot to the lungs, which may have happened in this most recent case.’ Accompanied by three friends, she travelled from London to Philadelphia for the treatment, thought to have been an early present to herself for her 21st birthday, which was due later this month. But a day later she was dead. Buttock enhancement surgery is becoming popular in the U.S., among women who aspire to the shapely curves of Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce. It is only legal when the silicone gel is contained and sealed within an implant. But illegal injections of the material are also widely available from unlicensed back-room medics. Last night one expert said having a direct injection of silicone gel – long outlawed in the U.S. and Britain, even for breast surgery – is ‘like playing Russian roulette’. One of Miss Aderotimi’s friends is said to have had the same procedure but survived. Experts warned the silicone could still prove lethal for her in the future if not removed. Police have searched the homes of the two women ‘doctors’ who injected the silicone and are investigating whether they are part of an organised gang who lure the unwary over the internet. Last night more than a dozen distraught friends and family gathered at Miss Aderotimi’s home in Hackney, East London. Her sister Vivian was in tears as she said: ‘We found out on Tuesday. We’re still in shock. We need to think about what we have to do.’ Miss Aderotimi’s mother, a healthcare assistant at Homerton Hospital in East London, said she was too upset to speak about her daughter’s death. A neighbour said: ‘We are struggling to cope with what happened. One girl died and one girl lived.’ Miss Aderotimi and her friends flew out to the U.S. on Saturday. She and another woman checked into room 425 at the Hampton Inn hotel, Philadelphia, a mile from the city’s airport, while her two other friends went to a party in New York. They paid around £100 for the room. Miss Aderotimi had the buttock injections on Monday – thought to have cost around £1,300 – while her friend had the same procedure along with a hip enhancement treatment. The ‘doctor’ who injected the silicone left soon after and was not there when Miss Aderotimi began complaining of chest pains. Investigation: A Philadelphia detective leaves the hotel where Claudia Aderotimi was staying, clutching an envelope with mugshots inside Death: The woman died at the Hampton Inn in Philadelphia after having an injection in her buttocks Paramedics were called to the hotel and she was taken to Mercy Fitzgerald hospital where she died 90 minutes after being admitted on Tuesday. Emails from Miss Aderotimi arranging the procedure were among the material seized, but police said no formal arrests had yet been made. Dr Rajiv Grover, president-elect of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, said: ‘Buttock augmentation isn’t a very commonly done procedure here, which is probably why these girls have resorted to going abroad. I love my colleagues but there are three who really irk my nerves at times and although I try to be tolerant it is all I can do to tell them to shut the F up! These three individuals are cat lovers and they love going on about the exploits of their cats. You wouldn't believe the amount of things their cats get up to. This ones cat is on cructches because it jumped out of the window, the other ones cat is diabetic etc, na waO! lol |
How was it? |
thweraja10:What do you mean? ![]() Clarification. Going to New York for a 1 week holiday and want to hang out where the Nigerians are. |
The Royal Family are highly beneficial to the UK tourism industry. Millions from all over the world come to see castles, palaces, parks and other royal historical places which have been preserved for 1000 of years in their original state. Cap28, You make some sound points and I really don't have a view on them however you did mention something about the Royal's not having qualifications which is incorrect. To my knowledge all of them have been educated to degree level at some the of the best educatoinal establishments in the country. I think Prince Harry is even a trained pilot as is Prince Andrew. |
Please tell me the places to check out Where do Nigerians socialise, hang out? Where can I meet other Nigerians. Restaurants Churches etc I will be over there in the New Year Staying in Times Square ![]() |
cou-gar: cou-gar: snowdrops:It is just South-East England and not the whole of the UK as they deal very well with the snow in Scotland and the rest of North Eastern Region and it snows far worst over there. Londoners and the rest in the South East are just too spoilt for works and this type of snow fall which is a new phenomenon in this part of the country is giving many i.e. Local government an excuse to take the piss. |
WOW! No one deserves to die in that way, least of all an innocent student minding his own business on his way home from college. It would appear that this level of crime is so bad in Chicago that the locals are now so desensitized to the sound of gunshots that they now just block it out and carry on. What a life? Wasn’t it in the same Chicago that most of Jennifer Hudson's family were slaughtered? Those crackheads obviously don’t care who they hurt or kill to get the next fix and unfortunately this brilliant young Nigerian star will be just another statistic in that violently crime ridden area. The only thing I can do is pray that those responsible find no peace in their lives. My heart hurts. I pray that the good Lord brings some comfort to Bawomolo’s family and friends, especially those here on Nairaland. |
justwise:You can tell from the way UKtrader writes and expresses himself that he is not a born and bred Briton. He is probably a fresh immigrant, a Nigerian at that, who is just being contentious to start shyt!! |
manmustwac:Nigerian Idol is currently being shown on HITV (UK SKY)- can't remember the channel number but google. I watched it yesterday from 6pm. I think it is currrent. |
Nigeria has definetly come a long way in short space of time. I remember going to Nigeria for my Dad's funeral in 2000 and being frustrated at not been able to use my UK phone to call and get things done as I would in England but having to travel instead and wait around. It was so frustrating and time consuming. When I went back there in 2003 the GSM era was in full swing and the change was amazing. |
Ranoscky: Ranoscky: Ranoscky: Ranoscky: Ranoscky:You have said it is boring and we heard you the first time, gosh! Why do you need to repeat it every so often? You obviously have a lot of time on your hands. |
Gamine:Some people are actually given these names at birth and all names mean something. |
TinTin18:As a matter of fact those are the names on their birth certificates. I know because I work in HR and have access to view personal information such as their birth certificates etc. They may be Chinese or Asian but they were born and bred in Liverpool and Leicester respectfully. I hope you are not so naive as to think that all Chinese people have Chinese names and the same for Asian people, please tell me you don't believe this. |
Are you English? |
I have come across a Chinese lady called Anne An Asian guy called John just to name a few. I feel people should be able to name their kids what they want. There are plenty of beautiful names out there whether they be African, European or Asian. My first name is Jewish, straight from the Bible and I love it as it defines me and I wouldn't change it for the world. |
