The latest resolution by ECOWAS to deploy standing troops also sent down shivers, who could think that a military dictator could apologize. ECOWAS negotiated from a weaker position in Mali & Burkina faso which the current leadership of ECOWAS doesn't want a repeat.

If this coup had happened in a country that shares borders with South West or South East for instance these same northern Ulamas would have been in the forefront to promote war because the unity of Nigeria is not 'negotiable' and democracy must be restored same way Yoruba Muslims are encouraging Tinubu to scatter Niger.
Instead of envoys Tinubu is now sending Muslim Clerics to save face because he was too fast to talk about the coup threatening military force before weighing his words.
