Nairaland / General / Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic Or Toyota Sienna; Which Should I Buy? by GeneralQuamdeen: 8:41pm On May 03, 2021
Hello people. I am in my mid 20s, earning 80k as a salary monthly on my 9-5 job which is flexible, and weekdays only. I am actually penny wise but my biggest expenses is on rent and transport which is about 250k and 350k respectively. The transport cost is high because my apartment is the closest to my former place of work and the rent is based on my former income. I can barely save a dime at the end of the month.

I have the intention of buying a car (my first car) from the funds I set aside from my former employment. Despite my poor financial position, I intend to buy a car as as to reduce my cost of transport yearly from 350k down to a significant level. Another benefit is to reduce the struggle I go through to get a public bus to commute to work and come home on a daily basis, and around Lagos.

Another benefit (which is most convincing to me) I intend to enjoy from the car is the opportunity to pick people up in the morning when I am going to work and when I am coming back. I also want to make myself available sometimes in the weekend for a driving job around Lagos or outside state. Monies for these will go into my day to day or month to month spending and my salary will be untouched and geared towards investments like stocks, farming or any other opportunities. Hence, I have to buy a car that is perfect for both personal and commercial use.

Now I have the opportunity to buy a Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and a Toyota Sienna at a very good price but I don't know which one to buy that is best for both commercial and personal use.

I am very set to do this because a private job in this struggling county. I am an efficient worker but I am the biggest earner in our office so anything can happen. I don't want to work with the fear of losing my job.

Please help a brother. Your contribution will assist a boy that is trying to build something out of nothing.
Business / Personal Finance: What Should Jack Do? by GeneralQuamdeen: 7:35pm On Mar 17, 2021
Jack is newly married, earns a salary of 70,000 monthly, and consumes part of investment interest of 20,000 making his total income 90,000 per month. Jack major expense is annual rent of 250,000 per year and 360,000 on transport. Jack has an idle fund of 1,400,000. Jack would love to have his own car. It's not his need but his want to improve his standard of living as a 26 old young man. Jack got an opportunity to get a Honda Accord car around 750,000 and employ the remaining funds to any business opportunity that present itself. Jack also got an opportunity to buy a Toyota Matrix car of 1,300,000 which he's considering to use for Uber during free weekends or weekdays evenings. What should Jack do?
Career / I Acquired Programming Skill But Got Accounting Cert. What Are Career Chances? by GeneralQuamdeen: 9:50pm On Feb 28, 2018
You can skip to the last paragraph in bold

I am 22 years old. I have HND in Accounting (although upgrade in progress). I currently work as an Accounting Office with an Indian Owned company in Lagos. I have two years working experience as Account Payables and Account Receivables. I am also part of support team for the Financial Controller of the organization and I am good at what I do.

Since my young age, I have always love the science behind computer, and computer programs. I am fascinated by how those things are created rather than the use of it.

Don't let me bore you with my history. During my stay at home and before my underemployment (pun intended), I decided to empower myself with the knowledge of computer science and its fundamentals.

I took upon a Free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) organized by Microsoft Learning to empower people with Computer Science Fundamentals.

I passed in "Logic and Computational Thinking" and we were introduced to Python. My skill moved from Self Starter to Apprentice after learning the process of designing and prototyping web applications to solve real problems and Building Interactive Prototypes using JavaScript : Learning how one can use JavaScript, the programming language of the Web, to build interactive webpages. And we also learn the basics of back-end web development with Node.js.

I have been enjoying the course so far. I am eager to increase the level of my skill to Intern as I plan to take on these courses (or I already have): Java Programming, Object Oriented Programming in Java and Algorithms and Data Structures.

Other courses in our curriculum includes; Writing Professional Codes, Fundamentals of how humans and machines interact and learn how to design effective user experiences, Web Accessibility Fundamentals and Developing International Software (Learning how to design and develop software for international use Featuring experts who've helped create some of the world's most successful software)

I have been following this MOOC for about 2 years now and I have been doing pretty well. I will soon embark on my own project soon. The goal of Microsoft Learning is that a student who has completed the Fundamentals curriculum can function in a job environment as an entry-level software developer once the concepts and practice exercises in those courses have been mastered

My target is to finish these courses. I started this course just to get myself engaged in something but now I have started thinking of a career as a Software Developers (Entry Level at least) but I only own an Accounting certificate. What are my chances? Thanks.

Or if anything else I can use to empower myself as an underemployed graduate. Thanks. Your contribution is well appreciated.

Nairaland / General / 8 Perks Of Living Alone by GeneralQuamdeen: 8:04pm On Sep 15, 2015
While living with your parents is safe
and secure, there’s nothing quite
like being free to enjoy your own
company.
Moving into a space that you can call
your own can be incredibly
liberating. Not only will it mean that
you are now in charge of the remote,
but it allows you to make decisions
you would otherwise miss out on
when staying with your parents or
friends until getting married.

Here are even more reasons why
you should choose a lifestyle of
independence:

1. Clothing is optional
For the
nudist in you, hiding in clothing is
no fun at all. Instead of suiting up,
you can strip down whenever you
feel like it.

2. You can be an introvert or
extrovert whenever you please.

If
you wish to make your place party
central, then do so. If you don’t want
to see another human being for the
next day or two, then guess what?
Your wish becomes your very own
command.

3. Free Night Calls
Feel free.
You won’t wake anyone up and you
definitely won’t need to explain
yourself to anyone...or try to keep your voice low enough for the caller to hear you and won't wake up others..
4. And finally, you’ll learn that
being alone and feeling alone is not
the same thing

Enjoying your own
company allows you to know,
understand and appreciate yourself.

5. Be as clean...or as messy as you
want

Hey, who is going to complain?

6. You can finally feel like a true
adult

Look at you taking care of bills
and managing accounts all by
yourself. It can be so empowering!

7. No one eats your food
Ever
made your way home after a long
day at work with the anticipation of
biting into your delicious stew
leftovers only to find that it is no
longer there? Grrrr!
8. Living alone allows you more
privacy for making mistakes

like
bringing home that one night stand
you end up regretting the next day.
Not quite convinced that living on
your own is the best step for you?
Nairaland / General / The Types Of Facebook Friend You Need To Delete Right Now by GeneralQuamdeen: 7:45pm On Sep 15, 2015
Most of us have Facebook for
whatever reason.
I have Facebook because with my
family, friends, acquaintances etc.
spread all over the earth, FB brings
us together like a big party. (I wish
it was Ibiza but alas it’s just the
digital world)
There is fun as you share
memories and funny happenings.
FB also makes them accessible any
time, you don’t have to ring up a
huge telephone bill on the “catch
up”.
Sure, Facebook is a great tool to
update your status: "What's on
your mind?" An artful, witty or
newsy status update is a pleasure
-- a real-time, tiny window into a
friend's life. Recall the days of
diaries, where their inner most
thoughts and feelings were
captured.
If someone even glanced in its
direction, you would be in defense
mode.
Sometimes FB becomes a “dear
diary” and it also tends to bring to
the forefront the most attention
seeking people.
FB also brings about different
personality traits of people.

1. The let-me-tell-you-every-detail-
of-my-life type

"I woke up." "I had Cornflakes for
breakfast." "I'm bored" "I'm stuck
in traffic."
Response to this type: Not every
moment of your life needs to be
broadcasted. An unsolicited second
by second account can become err!
Boring! Mundane! Just because
you have 502 Facebook friends
doesn't mean we all want to know
when you're waiting for your lift
club. How awesome?

2. The Self-Centered type
OK, so we've probably all posted at
least once, twice or maybe three
times about some achievement.
Maybe you are an interesting
person and your family and
friends, the international/national
ones do really want to know about
your new job or about the
fascinating article you wrote about
Facebook Types. But when almost
EVERY update is about you, you
and more you, it does become a
little self-absorbed. When your
little inner voice tells you – “you
are bragging now” you probably
are!

3. The Friend-DUH type
An Average FB user has 120
friends. If you are a social
butterfly, then maybe 300 BUT if
you brag about the 1000 plus
friends you have, you have a
problem, stop “friending” every
person. Lady packing your
groceries at the supermarket
doesn’t need to be your pal on FB.
The only time 1000 plus is
acceptable, if you are Vin Diesel or
“The Rock”, then maybe you might
have such a Fan Base. Keep it real!

4. The Broadcaster
"Kim Kardashian makes another
tape” You heard it from my FB Page
first! You might want to switch to E-
entertainment fellow F-Booker.
500,000 other people saw it as
well. Sometimes these types even
get caught in spam, in their rush to
trumpet the news they never verify
…. “Olympus has fallen” could
mean many things, maybe not the
White House.

5. The Grammar/Spelling Fiend
We are well aware that things are
different in the digital world. I also
make mistakes, but care about
words please, there is a difference
between “accidently” and
“accidentally”, “their” and “there”.
And sometimes putting an
apostrophe in the wrong place is
not right.

6. The Attention Seeker
"I am sad today." "Thinking about
last night!”, “I cried last night ...”
Like fisherman, they cast their rods
-- baited with vague tales of woe -
in the hopes of landing concerned
responses. Genuine bad news is
one thing, but really if you want us
to bite, maybe try prawn bait and
not bread.

7. The Stealth Mode FB Friend
AKA peeping toms. They never
comment, like or post anything on
your page. You would not miss
them if they unfriended you, but
meet them in person or at a
function. , these voyeurs will
mention something you posted a
while ago, or a picture they saw,
that when you realise they were
hiding in the shadows of your FB
Page. Stalkerish! And quite creepy.

8. The Troll
They spew sarcasm, insults,
unfounded or unwarranted
comments.
All I can say: UNFRIEND
immediately

9. The Paparazzi
That one person who is like an
ever-ready bunny, takes a pic of
you then proceeds to upload it
onto your FB page immediately -
photos you didn't authorize and
haven't even seen? It’s really hard
to explain why you were with
Channing Tatum and not Ryan
Gosling on that night, at that time,
when you said you were at home
with the flu.

10. The Chronic Inviter
Play Mafia Wars with me. Play
Candy Crush with me. Sign my
petition. Like this page. You
probably mean well, but stop. Just
stop, can't we simply be friends?
Why do you keep inviting me to
farm beets with you. I don’t like
farming!
Argggghh!

Education / How Favourable Is HND Certificate In Nigeria Labour Market? by GeneralQuamdeen: 8:02pm On Aug 27, 2015
Nairalanders. I really need your advice on this. I am 21years old i just finished my ND programme this year. My parents want me to take HND form next year and ignore DE (reasons withheld coz it's a personal issue). From what i heard, people with HND cert have a very low possibily of getting a job even when you have good grades. I need your advice so to know the next step to take. Thanks. Don't let it shock you that as old as i am, i still don't know how things work in this economy, i'm just a naive person.

iv gotten it right. thanks. please put me thru on the following

1) do mods get mails or even go thru them when you send them?

2)I was banned for spam-boat what does that mean?

3) if I want to quote you by analysing different parts of your one particular post, how do I do it. I mean breaking a particular post of yours to different fragments and writing in BTW the various broken fragments.

let Me be experimenting on number 3 before you reply.
yes, they get it.. But they may not reply you due to large number of mails they get everyday... But they will work on the issue you present to them. You know the meaning of spam right? Copying content from other site and posting it directly.. If you try to do that.. And the anti-spam detects.. You will be banned for it. The third one is difficult to explain.. But if you're a logical person.. You should be able to figure it out.

BTW,Happy Eid-el-Fitri!
if you want to write in a big font, bold and write in colour as well. Let's say red. Type these two characters. . In between those two characters, type: . Making four characters. Then in between above, type . Making six characters. Then type what ever you want to have in bolded, coloured and bold in between the character written above
