A 27-year-old man, Mohammed Ibrahim, has been arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping two female pupils of Al Adab Nursery and Primary School. The incident was said to have happened in the Surulere area of Lagos and on the school’s premises. Ibrahim, an indigene of Niger State, was said to have raped the six and seven year olds in the toilet during school hours. It was learnt that the defendant had only been appointed to teach primary three pupil Islamic Studies in the Muslim school in August 2013. It was said that he was placed on a salary of N10,000 per month which he accepted to take. However, on December 18, 2013 he allegedly asked the victims (names withheld) to help him fetch water and take it to the toilet. He was said to have followed them there, undressed them and had carnal knowledge of them. The victims were said to have cried while the act was on, which attracted the attention of other kids. Ibrahim allegedly pushed them out and pretended as if nothing had happened. The victims were said to have been invited and interrogated by another teacher, who then related their confession to the school management. The defendant was subsequently arrested and he allegedly confessed to the crime. The police arraigned him on Monday on two counts of rape. The charge read, “That you, Mohammed Ibrahim, on December 18, 2013, at 11am at Al Adab Nursery and Primary School, Abalti Barracks Surulere, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did forcefully have unlawful sexual intercourse with a child named (name withheld) aged six years, which caused her harm. “That you on the same date, time and place, did unlawfully have sexual intercourse with a child (name withheld) aged 7 years, which caused her harm.” The prosecutor, Inspector Richard Odige, said the offence was punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011. Ibrahim said he was not guilty of the offence. The affected kids were also in court with their parents. The defence counsel, Melda Bambo, appealed to the court to grant Ibrahim bail in liberal terms. The magistrate, Mrs Demi Ajayi, admitted him to bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties each in like sum. The matter was adjourned till January 29, 2014. As 2013 gradually folds up,one cannot help but to thank God for His precious mercies and grace. He fought several unseen battles on our behalf. When I try to comprehend Him, I realize that I really don't know Him? I certainly know Him better than I used to, but I really don't know Him? No matter how much I learn of Him, there will always be more to learn. When I read of Him in the Word, I get a glimpse and a glimmer of Him and yet I know that the writer has just scratched the surface. How can a mere man, even with inspiration describe a God who spoke the world into existence from nothing. How can He describe a Creator who makes man from the dust of the earth? Most of all, how do we describe a God who robes Himself in mortal flesh so that He could die on a cross? I believe that throughout scripture we see a progressive revelation of Jesus. He is shown from the time He was born as a baby until he speaks with power and majesty from the throne of heaven. The scene at the transfiguration gives us a glimpse of an added dimension, His Deity. I believe that when Peter and James and John came down from the mountain, they viewed Jesus a little differently. This is shown again in Revelation when John saw "one like the son of man" and yet he fell to the ground as dead. John had just seen Him in a different light. In summary,I can simple say with Paul "I haven't attained." I can also say with Paul, "I'm pressing on towards the mark to the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Yes I know Him, but there is still much more to know of Him. If I would know Him, I must share in the suffering of His cross. This is accomplished by the infilling of the Holy Ghost, which is the power of His resurrection. My prayer for anyone reading this post is "Father we thank you. We are so glad again we have not followed a cunningly devised fable. We thank you for the revelation of truth which is eternal. We pray for an expansion of vision in 2014. An expansion of revelation. A deeper willingness to go further with Thee than we have gone in 2013. That we may go and walk circumspectly, that if You would appear at our side, we wouldn't embarrass You, because we are walking in the place of obedience. Let Your blessing be upon us... Lets keep reading, and lets keep believing, and lets keep obeying.................................shalom |
The Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos State, has arrested an account officer with Guaranty Trust Homes, Adeola Olokojobi, in connection with a N50m fraud at the financial institution. Prior to his arrest, Olokojobi was said to be working at the GT Homes, Saka Tinubu branch, Victoria Island. PUNCH Metro gathered that the SFU had received a petition in October 2013, from a customer of the branch where Olokojobi worked. The customer had alleged that Olokojobi, who was his account officer, had “not been forthcoming with his account balances.” A statement by the SFU Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, said, “The petitioner also alleged that the balance given to him was at variance with his actual balance in the account. “An internal investigation conducted by GT Homes into the account revealed that Olokojobi in April 2013, forged an instruction, transferring N15m from the petitioner’s account, to an unknown account. “The bank also discovered other various fraudulent withdrawals made by the account officer from other customers’ accounts in his care through fake transfer instructions. It amounted to over N50m. “He said the funds were used to finance his political campaign, a proposed pure water company and purchase of an uncompleted building at Sango-Ota, Ogun State. “Olokojobi in his confessional statement said he had fraudulently withdrawn monies amounting to N50,640,748 from the account of the customers by transferring funds into the accounts of fictitious customers and subsequently withdrawing same.” A banking and finance graduate, Olokojobi told PUNCH Metro that he joined GT Homes in 2009. He, however, denied that he had fraudulently transferred over N50m, insisting that instead, it was N27m. He said, “I didn’t have to forge the instructions from GT homes customers. All I did was manipulate them. What happens is that they usually send instructions to the account officers by email, requesting that some money be transferred to an account of their choice. All I simply do is add another million or two to the sum the customer requested. “It went unnoticed all this while because after using the money to do some business transactions, I always paid it back. I was into several businesses; I would buy land and resell for profit. “I got into trouble with this one because I withdrew N15m at once from a customer’s account; I didn’t take it bit by bit, but I meant to pay it back. In fact, I had already started doing so before I was caught and arrested. But the police are not right in saying that the money I had withdrawn from customers amounted to N50m; it is N27m.” Ogunsakin, however, said the suspect would soon be charged to court, where he could defend himself. http://www.punchng.com/news/banker-arrested-for-withdrawing-n50m-from-customers-accounts/ |

Two men have been found guilty of murdering soldier Lee Rigby outside Woolwich barracks in south-east London in May. Michael Adebolajo, 29, and Michael Adebowale, 22, struck Fusilier Rigby with a car before hacking him to death. Adebolajo had claimed he was a "soldier of Allah" and the killing was an act of war. The men were found not guilty of attempting to murder a police officer at the scene. Continue reading the main story “ Start Quote These people have taken away my baby's dad but Lee's memory lives on through our son and we will never forget him” Rebecca Rigby The jury of eight women and four men took approximately 90 minutes to reach its verdict. Relatives of Fusilier Rigby broke down in tears as the verdicts were given. His wife said the family was satisfied that justice had been done, adding: "This has been the toughest time of our lives. No one should have to go through what we have been through as a family." Rebecca Rigby said: "These people have taken away my baby's dad but Lee's memory lives on through our son and we will never forget him. "I now want to build a future for Jack and make him proud of his dad like we all are." Mr Justice Sweeney ordered that the decisions be heard in silence. He said he will pass sentence after a key appeal court ruling on the use of whole life terms in January. Adebolajo and Adebowale drove a car into Fusilier Rigby at 30-40mph, before dragging him into the road and attacking him with knives and attempting to decapitate him with a meat cleaver. The jury heard the men chose their victim because he was "the soldier that was spotted first". In a police interview Adebolajo said he and Adebowale decided to lie in wait near the barracks and targeted Fusilier Rigby because he was wearing a Help for Heroes hooded top and carrying a camouflage rucksack. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25450555 |

Six men have been arrested by officers from the National Crime Agency investigating alleged match-fixing in English football. At least three footballers are reported to be among those held across the country, but the BBC understands that none is linked to professional clubs. The NCA said the focus of the operation was a suspected international illegal betting syndicate. It is thought the suspects are being held by police in the Midlands. The NCA was launched this year to fight organised and serious crime. It said it was working closely with the Gambling Commission and the Football Association. A spokesman said: "This is an active investigation and we are unable to provide further detail at this time." Newspaper probe The FA said it has been made aware of the arrests. In a statement, it said: "We have worked closely with the authorities in relation to these allegations. The FA will make no further comment at this time due to ongoing investigations." "The Gambling Commission said it had provided advice, intelligence and expertise in supporting the investigation and continues to liaise with the NCA and FA." The Crown Prosecution Service said it had liaised with the NCA during its investigation. The arrests come after an undercover investigation by the Daily Telegraph newspaper. It carries claims that a betting syndicate fixer from Singapore discussed the possibility of influencing the scores and outcomes of lower-league English games for £50,000 at a meeting in Manchester. According to the paper, he claimed potential gamblers would make hundreds of thousands of pounds by using the inside information through bets placed on Asian-based websites. The fixer reportedly offered to target two football matches, saying he would tell players how many goals he needed to be scored. He can be heard in a video claiming that he would pay a player £5,000 to take a yellow card at the start of a match as a signal that the result was likely to be fixed. The Football League said it had not been contacted by police about the investigation. Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey said: "The threat of corruption is something that the Football League and the other football authorities treat with the utmost seriousness. "The integrity of our matches and our competitions is the bedrock of the domestic game." Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25132538 |

We become familiar with God’s voice in much the same way. By reading what He has written, we learn who He is and how He expresses Himself. Satan, however, tries to make himself sound like God (2 Cor. 11:14). By using God’s words in a slightly altered fashion, he comes up with convincing arguments for things that are untrue. For example, by convincing people to do things that simulate godliness, such as trusting in an outward regimen of self-discipline rather than Christ’s death for salvation (Col. 2:23), Satan has led many astray. |

A drone, called "Sharp Sword" by the media, made a test flight for around 20 minutes in Chengdu, reports said. China has been developing stealth aircraft in recent years, including J-20 and J-31 stealth fighters. In September, an unmanned drone flew close to a group of disputed islands in the East China Sea, raising tensions with Japan. Following that incident, Japan said it would shoot down unmanned aircraft in Japanese airspace. China's defence ministry said that any attempt by Japan to shoot down Chinese aircraft would constitute "an act of war". "The successful flight shows the nation has again narrowed the air-power disparity between itself and Western nations," state-run newspaper China Daily said on Friday. The BBC's defence correspondent Jonathan Marcus says China is joining a small elite club of nations that includes the US, Israel, France and the UK, who are pushing the boundaries of UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) technology. Our correspondent says that what is clear from recent air shows and the Chinese technical press is that Beijing has developed a variety of UAVs matching virtually every category deployed by the US. They range from small tactical drones of limited endurance to much larger systems that look strikingly like US Reaper or Predator models, and just like their US counterparts some of these Chinese drones are equipped with hard-points on their wings to carry munitions. This comes as China pours money into its military making its neighbours in the region nervous. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-25033155

US President John F Kennedy (centre) a Democrat, was in Dallas for some early campaigning ahead of the 1964 election
|
The US is marking 50 years since President John F Kennedy was killed by an assassin's bullet in Dallas, Texas. The city, which has long struggled with the legacy of the murder, hosts a series of official events on Friday. Kennedy has been ranked among the nation's most revered presidents, though he served less than three years. He is commemorated for his youthful vigour, his leadership through the Cuban missile crisis, and his challenge to America to put a man on the Moon. But he is also remembered for ordering one of the most disastrous episodes of the Cold War, the failed Bay of Pigs invasion of communist Cuba by a CIA-trained paramilitary force of Cuban exiles. Kennedy, a Democrat, was part of one of the most prominent US political dynasties of the 20th Century. His father, Joseph, was a wealthy businessman who served in senior positions in the government of President Franklin Roosevelt, including as ambassador to Britain. Two of his brothers later served as US senators and ran for president. One of them, Robert, was himself assassinated in 1968. Edward Kennedy, who died in 2009, was a champion of progressive causes including universal healthcare. John Kennedy's daughter Caroline is now the US ambassador to Japan. Among the official events in Dallas on Friday, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform, Mayor Michael Rawlings will give an address, and bells will toll at the minute of Kennedy's death. Those events and others conclude a week of tributes to the slain US leader. On Wednesday, President Barack Obama laid a wreath at Kennedy's tomb at the national military cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Mr Obama was joined by former President Bill Clinton, who as a youth met Kennedy. Members of Kennedy's family stood by Mr Obama, Mr Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as a bugler played Taps, the traditional US military mourning song. IT was all over in a few seconds, but the assassination of John F Kennedy on 22 November 1963 has generated five decades of "painstaking, and for some unsatisfying, analysis," the Daily Mail says. Two years ago, a team of historians and retired Secret Service officers used the latest digital technology to analyse all the available film and still images taken in Dallas that day. Their conclusion: a "categorical confirmation" that JFK's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, acted alone. But as the 50th anniversary of the president's killing approaches, the conspiracy theories that have sprung up around the event seem all but indestructible. Here are the topics that have triggered the most debate: The 'magic bullet' theory: Oswald fired just three bullets in Dallas. But he killed JFK and badly wounded Governor John Connally who was sitting in the front seat of the limousine. The Warren Commission - the investigation into JFK's killing set up in 1963 - came up with the 'single-bullet theory' to explain how Oswald did so much damage with just three rounds. It posits that both men were hit by a single bullet which "entered JFK's upper back, exited his throat, and then struck Connally, breaking a rib and shattering his wrist, and finally coming to rest in his thigh," says the Mary Ferrell Foundation. Sceptics say the trajectory was fanciful and re-named it the 'magic bullet theory'. It's just one reason why conspiracy theorists think more than one shooter was involved. The grassy knoll: Most JFK conspiracy theories pivot around the idea that Oswald wasn't acting alone. When the president was hit by the bullet that killed him, the motorcade was passing a grassy knoll on the north side of Elm Street. Newspaper photographs record that shortly after the shooting, police arrested three tramps found in a railroad car behind the knoll. Because the men were clean-shaven and well dressed there was speculation that they were CIA assassins rather than hobos. The long list of culprits: If Oswald was a paid assassin rather than a disaffected loner, who was writing his pay cheques? The list of candidates is long, but some names are put forward more than most. They are: The CIA The idea that the assassination was a CIA plot sounds bizarre, but conspiracy theorists suggest the president's alleged comment that he wanted to "splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds" made him an agency target. Other theories suggest that one of the tramps (see above) was E Howard Hunt, a former CIA operative who was involved in the ill-fated Bay of Pigs operation to oust Cuban leader Fidel Castro. The Mafia Why would the mafia want JFK dead? Because his brother, Robert, was turning up the heat on organised crime. Robert was the US attorney general at the time and his "anti-mafia crusade" had lead to a sharp increase in the number of prosecutions of senior mafia figures. The KGB "The Soviets had a palpable, powerful motive [to kill JFK]: to gain revenge for the humiliation of the USSR in the 1962 Cuban missile crisis," says Scienta Press. Oswald was a communist and had spent time in the USSR. His "Russian odyssey" afforded the KGB "many opportunities to interact with him". Lyndon B Johnson In 2003, a Gallup poll revealed that 20 per cent of Americans believed Johnson had something to do with JFK's death. Theories include the vice president's "desire to become president, his need to cover up scandals, and his involvement with the FBI", says the Environmental Graffiti website. The Little Green Men Another theory suggests JFK was killed for showing too much interest in "alien activity". There are two "crucial" pieces of evidence backing this up. The first is a letter written by JFK to the CIA in which he demands to see secret UFO files. The second is a note from a senior CIA official that says "we cannot allow" the president to see the classified material. The Illuminati The secretive powerbrokers who control the world are obvious candidates for a JFK conspiracy theory. The president fell foul of the Illuminati, it has been suggested, because he wanted to end the Vietnam War, a conflict that was paying the "shadowy bankers" handsome dividends. The Illuminati were also "angered" by JFK's attempts to "rein in" the power of the US Federal Reserve, triggering a deadly backlash. · http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-25046604 http://www.theweek.co.uk/us/55933/who-killed-jfk-50-years-conspiracy-theories-explained#ixzz2lMYCThR7 |
