PoliticsI’ll Flee Nigeria If APC Wins —bode George by georgecso(op): 8:39am On Feb 17, 2015
.In this interview with ENIOLA AKINKUOTU, a national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, speaks on the recent comments of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and other national issues

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Goodluck Jonathan plans to perpetuate himself in government like the former President of Cote d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo. What do you think of this comment?

He (Obasanjo) says he is a Christian and as a Christian, it is emphasised in the New Testament of the Bible where Christ said judge not so that you will not be judged. But his judgment is no longer about the policies of Jonathan. He has gone down to the extent of saying Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) will jail you (Jonathan), that is why you are afraid. I am holding my breath because in an African setting, you talk to elders with respect and that is why I am trying to get the right words to describe my feelings. Baba (Obasanjo) is not a young man. He was Head of State at 39. So averagely, he should be about 84 or 85 and I am requesting that he should graciously fade away into the midnight. In the Bible, Romans chapter 13 states clearly that we should pray for those in authority. It says pray for your leaders so that they don’t run aground. So, to me that is my own interpretation. If baba (Obasanjo) had attended the Council of State meeting in Abuja, where they were very well briefed, and that it was decided that only the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, that could pronounce a postponement and that he should go and come up with a decision and Jega addressed a press conference. Now to start comparing our President with Gbagbo in Cote d’Ivoire is unjust, unsavoury and unfair because what is the population of Ivory Coast? What are the tribal sentiments of Ivory Coast? Are they the same here? I want to plead with Baba. God has been kind to him and he has served his own time. I don’t want to conclude that his life will be like King Saul in the Bible. I pray it will not be so. Baba has played his role. No generation can finish any job. Nation building is a continuous exercise. You come, do your own and go back into history.

Apart from the issue of insecurity which Jega gave as the reason for the postponement of the elections, do you think INEC was ready to conduct the elections on February 14 and 28?

I granted an interview recently and there were two posers that I gave to Jega. Thank God Jega is a professor. He told us that there was an 88 per cent collection rate in Borno State where there is massive insurgency as well as in Yobe and Adamawa states. Here, where there is calmness and civility, only 30 something per cent of the populace had collected PVCs. It is just improving. I think as of last Friday over three million had collected as against 5.6 million. And he is saying we are ready. Without the Permanent Voter Cards, you are immediately disenfranchised. Ask Jega that as a professor, will it be fair to conduct an examination whereby you have (students who have) covered 80 per cent syllabus and another class where you have (students who have) covered only 30 per cent syllabus. Is it fair?

The other question is this issue of card readers. Have they been tested? I am talking as an electronic engineer of 48 years in practice. You just bought equipment from China and the last time it was tested was in China. Our own environment is not the same. Look at the vagaries of the temperature here from the swampy areas of the South and the savannah in the North. Who has tested the equipment? Now, I am not saying they will not all work but if there are almost 9,000 polling units in Lagos, is he saying all the 9,000 card readers will be functional? If the card readers fail to work in some polling units, what shall we do?

Why did the military surround former Governor Bola Tinubu’s house?

YES, BUHARI IS SICK; AND SO AM I
By VITUS OZOKE

Nigerians and their infinite capacity for facile propaganda. I wake up this morning and what I see all over social media is some poor taste, childish diagnosis of Major General Buhari as being sick.

Well, I agree. I agree that Buhari is sick. I am sick, too. Any Nigerian who is not sick is not sick because he or she is incurably sick. We are all sick. And we should be sick. So, yes,...

...Buhari is sick of the monumental corruption that has become institutionalized in Nigeria;

...Buhari is sick of the incompetence of a government that cannot protect the lives and properties of its citizens;

...Buhari is sick of the lack of a sense of urgency in the circles of government in Nigeria;

...Buhari is sick of a country that has placed itself on permanent reverse gear;

...Buhari is sick of a country that has left itself naked as it is raped dry by vagabonds in power;

...Buhari is sick of a youth population without jobs;

...Buhari is sick of a country where university education has become comparable to 8th grade competence in advanced civilizations;

...Buhari is sick of a country where roads are death traps;

...Buhari is sick of a country where people go into political offices near poor, but turn stupendously wealthy overnight;

...Buhari is sick of a country where education is priced beyond the reach of the common masses;

...Buhari is sick of a country where $20 Billion (possibly $40 Billion) of public fund develops legs and walks away, its whereabouts knowingly unknown;

...Buhari is sick of watching the country he loves ranked at the bottom of corruption index by Transparency International

Buhari is sick of a country that earns billions of dollars in oil revenue, yet has not a single functional oil refinery;

...Buhari is sick of a country where government has bowed to the dictates of power generator cabals in a conspiracy that ensures perpetual darkness;

...Buhari is sick of a country where senators and congressmen earn more than the president of the United States of America;

...Buhari is sick of a country where soldiers are so demoralized to confront a ragtag Boko Haram terror sect;

...Buhari is sick of a country where convicted looters are pardoned and fast tracked for senate positions;

...Buhari is sick of a country where life expectancy is among the lowest in the world;

...Buhari is sick of a country that is on international news for all the wrong reasons;

So, yes, Buhari is sick; and so am I.

Question is why is Jonathan not sick as well? Why has Jonathan remained healthy in the face of all the above-listed filth and diseases? Question is why is not every Nigerian sick of all the social maladies and existential outbreaks? It is a time to be sick, my friends. Buhari is; I am. Are you?

Let's all get sick of where and how Nigeria is. Let's get real sick. And the sicker we are, the healthier we are going to be. Let's schedule a doctor's visit on February 14. Let's not forget our health insurance card (voter card) as we go for this February appointment. We need to feel better. But until February 14, let's feel sick...

HealthStudy: Sex With More Than 20 Women Helps Reduce Prostate Cancer by georgecso(op): 4:55pm On Nov 18, 2014

"Men who have sex with more than 20 women during the course of their lifetimes are less likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer, new research shows.

But for homosexuals who have had sex with at least 20 men and virgins, the risk of being diagnosed is doubled, the researchers from the University of Montreal have found.

Compared with men who have had just one sexual partner, men who have slept with 20 or more women have a 28 per cent lower risk of being diagnosed, and are 19 per cent less likely to develop the most aggressive form of prostate cancer.

However, the researchers found that homosexual men who have had at least 20 sexual partners, were twice as likely to to develop prostate cancer compared with those in monogamous relationships.

Homosexual men were also five times more likely to develop a less serious form of the disease than those with only one male partner.

The "highly speculative" hypothesis to explain this increased risk for homosexual men is that there is a heightened risk of picking up a sexually transmitted disease and "physical trauma" to the prostate from anal intercourse.

Between 2005 and 2009, 3208 men participated in the Prostate Cancer & Environment Study and were asked to give information about their lifestyles and sexual experiences.

A prostate cancer cell

In this time frame, 1590 men who participated in the study were diagnosed with prostate cancer..

The research, published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, is the first of its kind to make a link between the number of sexual partners and the risk of developing cancer.

Lead researcher Marie-Elise Parent said that, despite the results, she did not see a need for public health authorities to encourage men to have sex with as many women as possible.

"It is possible that having many female sexual partners results in a higher frequency of ejaculations, whose protective effect against prostate cancer has been previously observed in cohort studies," Dr Parent said

The research found that men who had never had sexual intercourse, were twice as likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Prior studies have indicated sexual intercourse might help reduce the risk of prostate cancer because it lowers the concentration of carcinogenic crystal-like substances in the fluid of the prostate.

"We were fortunate to have participants from Montreal who were comfortable talking about their sexuality, no matter what sexual experiences they have had, and this openness would probably not have been the same 20 or 30 years ago," Dr Parent said.

"Indeed, thanks to them, we now know that the number and type of partners must be taken into account to better understand the causes of prostate cancer."

Foreign AffairsMeet "Abu Hattab", 13-year-old Jihadi Preparing To Join ISIS Militants In Syria by georgecso(op): 4:11pm On Nov 06, 2014
https://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/78787000/jpg/_78787843_kid1sm.jpg

In a cramped living room in southern Turkey, a 13-year-old boy is training to join Islamic State.

As he welcomes us in, he appears a regular, happy-looking child: his hair is ruffled, his smile beaming, he wears a grey, hooded sweater.

But as we sit down to talk, he heads next door to change, returning in a black balaclava and military-style camouflage top.

He wants to be known as "Abu Hattab".

Born in Syria, he was first radicalised last year, joining the jihadist group Sham al-Islam.

'Behead them'

He had Sharia lessons and learned how to use weapons, proudly showing us pictures in which he takes aim with machine guns.

Now he spends his days online, watching jihadist videos and chatting on Facebook to IS fighters.

Within weeks, he says, he'll go to the IS stronghold of Raqqa in Syria to become a young jihadi soldier.

"I like Islamic State because they pursue Sharia and kill infidels, non-Sunnis and those who converted from Islam," he says.

I would not be sad if he killed Westerners”

'Fatima' Mother of 'Abu Hattab'

"The people killed by Islamic State are American agents. We must behead them as Allah said in the Koran."

I ask whether he has disclosed his age to those to whom he talks online.

"At the start, I didn't," he says.

"But recently I told them - and now they contact me even more, sending me photos and news."

But why not simply enjoy his childhood, I ask?

"I don't want to go out with friends or have fun. Allah ordered us to work and fight for the next life - for paradise. Before, I went to the park or the seaside.

"But then I realised I was wrong - and I've taken the righteous path."

https://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/78787000/jpg/_78787845_blurkidgun3sm.jpg

'Evil powers'

His family now lives in Turkey - so would he launch an attack here, or in Britain for example?

"Britain should be attacked because it's in Nato and is against Islamic State," he says, "but we would kill only those who deserve it. If they ask me to attack Turkey and give me a holy order, I would do it. Soon the West will be finished."

At home, he and his mother, who wants to be known as Fatima, lead a devout life.

She spends much of her time studying the Koran and admits strong sympathies for the militants.

Last year, she sent her son for training with Sham al-Islam - but denies brainwashing him.

"I never encouraged him to join Islamic State," she insists.

"I support some of their beliefs but not others. But I think they came to help the Syrian people - unlike the evil powers around the world."
'Future leader'

If she's not encouraging him, I ask, what is she doing to stop her son losing his childhood to extreme violence?

Their childhood has been taken”

Mohamed Brother of young jihadi fighters

"I can't stop him if he wants to fight," she says.

"War makes children grow up fast. I want him to become a future leader - an emir."

Steadily her voice grows in intensity, her eyes narrowing in anger above the scarf she uses to cover her face.

"I would not be sad if he killed Westerners. I'm ashamed that my other sons are working peacefully for civil society groups - they must take up arms."

How would she feel, I ask, if he dies fighting for Islamic State?

She pauses. "I would be so happy," she replies, before bowing her head to cry.

$100 per month

Islamic State is recruiting widely among children, according to a United Nations report released last month - and often forcibly.

One video posted online, called "cubs of the Islamic State", appears to show a battalion of children dressed in full military garb, holding weapons and standing next to an IS black flag.

Other jihadist groups are also using child soldiers, Human Rights Watch reporting recently that they're deployed as suicide bombers and snipers.

In the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep, we met a Syrian civil society activist who has seen his two younger brothers - 13 and 15 years old - fall victim to a recruitment drive by Jabat al-Nusra, the al-Qaeda offshoot in Syria.

Mohamed, 21, shows me a video of his youngest brother firing heavy artillery with a group of fighters.

In other pictures, he poses for the camera gripping a machine gun.

"I tried to stop my brothers from joining al-Nusra but they didn't care what I felt," he says.

"They should be at school. Al-Nusra offers children $100 per month to fight with them. And they give them weapons-training in a camp. Their childhood has been taken.

Both brothers have recently been captured by Islamic State. Mohamed fears they'll soon defect from al-Nusra to fight with IS.

"I used to have fun with my youngest brother at home. But then he changed. When I told him al-Nusra would destroy our country, he said 'shut up, or I'll kill you'.

"I said goodbye to both of them when they went to join al-Nusra and I thought: I'll never see them again. I'm sure I'll get news that they've been killed."

Syria's war is blackening the formative years of a generation.

And militants are preying upon children as tools of that war, their innocence stolen too early.

As I left the house of "Abu Hattab", I asked his mother what her 13-year-old wanted to become when he was even younger.

She smiled: "A pilot."

If GEJ cannot grant amnesty to BH then l don't see the reason why he cannot unleash the full military power on areas where BH claims to be in-charge... There is a systematic game plan to allow this current crises to escalate so that election cannot be conducted in these areas affected by insurgency... Trust me... the recent jail break in Kogi state is part of the game plan because most of the inmates are BHs and very soon we would start witnessing bombing and killings beyond what we are currently witnessing as the election approaches..
PoliticsNo Ceasefire Deal With Boko Haram Yet –FG by georgecso(op): 8:48am On Nov 05, 2014
The federal government has declared that there is no ceasefire deal yet with Boko Haram insurgents.

The National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki disclosed this to the Council of State meeting held yesterday inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
This was contrary to the government’s earlier announcement on October 17 that leaders of the sect had accepted its proposals and agreed to a ceasefire.

Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio while addressing State House journalists after the meeting quoted the NSA as having told the Council that there was no ceasefire and that the media misunderstood the issue.
On the fate of the Chibok schoolgirls, Akpabio also quoted the NSA as having told the Council that discussions on ceasefire were still going on.
He said: “The NSA was of the opinion that high level contact with the Republic of Chad was made and that there were some persons who acted on behalf of Boko Haram and who claimed to have authority also had discussions with them and there are some Nigerian officials with them. And, of course, no agreement has been reached yet, it is just that the press probably misunderstood what was reported. The discussions are ongoing.
“What came out of the NSA’s briefing was that the president will do everything possible to ensure the release of those young girls and to ensure protection of lives and property.
“A major issue discussed today was the issue of the security of the nation. We received a report from the National Security Adviser on the security of the nation. He briefed the Council on the current war on insurgency and explanations were given on issue of Chibok girls.”
Akpabio added: “The Council was satisfied that the Defence Ministry and all the agencies have taken the right steps and the president is on course, and sooner or later, Nigerians will hear good news; but we urge Nigerians to be patient and that the issues of terrorism are not issues that could be finished within a day or two.”
Our correspondent reports that former Heads of State Generals Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal were absent at the meeting.
The former leaders present at the meeting were Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, General Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Shehu Shagari and Chief Ernest Shonekan.
Senate President David Mark as well as former Chief Justices Mohammed Lawal Uwais and Idris Kutigi were also present.
Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole was the only All Progressives Congress (APC) governor that later joined the meeting.
The governors in attendance included those of Jigawa, Akwa Ibom, Ekiti, Abia, Kaduna, Niger, Ebonyi, Enugu, Delta, Kogi, Cross River, Taraba and Ondo states.
