Foreign exchange restrictionsAgreed we need power, railways and road but that is only when we are alive. Primarily we need food/income to enjoy these infrastructures - people need to be kept employed or in business. We need to establish a balance between basic needs for survival and desire for expansive projects. Getting good education abroad or writing an international professional exam is an investment (not a luxury) but forex restriction policy is thwarting many dreams and no alternatives have been created for students. Conversely, BMW cars are luxury - how come we have foreign exchange up to N4.3 Billion available for luxury. Moreover what is a broke third-world nation (threatened by recession) doing with lavish hosting of VIPs. To what ends? Steel is a major component to achieve the (power, railways and road) budget. But as at today Nigeria does not have the capacity to meet some international standards required in constructions and fabrications. Definitely huge foreign exchange (running into millions of $$) will be used to import these standards/raw materials. But there are many small firms (whose operations are being hampered) who are also labour employers and need forex to get raw materials. Considering what is happening to existing companies not many companies will feel comfortable moving new businesses into Nigeria. How do we define productive sector? Any parameters to identify the productivity of sectors? What happens to the practitioners in the "unproductive sector"? Who will provide the needed forex for the "certified productive sector"? - because there is no forex now in banks. Happenings and trends on the street are potentially dangerous - job losses will climb in 2016, stimulation of (power, railways and roads) sector may not be enough to make much difference; many stopped from achieving higher academic/professional dreams will be distraught or idled; the street record is clear as existing companies are either shutting down or shedding off; and a number of banks are already showing signs of stress. |
4hys:Uncle Lai has just confirmed our fear. FG using "quite possible" connotes so many things and gives credence to many suspicions in the 2016 budget. There is high likelihood most figures were flippantly estimated without any thorough procedure. Many of the figures have too many significant zeros especially when put side-by-side previous budgets. It is highly doubtful the President saw 2% of figures quoted on this document. And if all these figures were vetted by cabinet ministers it only means APC is as corrupt as PDP if not more corrupt. |
Personal deductions from the media chat: ^^ If you are attacking the unity of this nation you would have to go through Buhari first ^^ The FG have so many issues to manage simultaneously than they envisaged ^^ The President appears to be unaware of most figures in the proposed budget ^^ The FG does not have a clear-cut policy actions for successful diversification of the economy ^^ Buhari is candid but he shows signs of helplessness on how best to temper the sick economy ^^ Massive corruption is still going on under Buhari's government but his level of knowledge is open to questions ^^ Buhari holds the value of naira very dear to his heart but his methods of keeping it healthy are not convincing ^^ Businesses and students suffering from paucity of foreign exchange should stop looking up to Buhari government for solution ^^ Buhari's government appears to be underestimating the capability of BH to continue making life meaningless to the nation ^^ The NASS will remain a financial drain-pipe even if the nation slips into recession and there is nothing anyone can do about it ^^ 2016 is going to be tough for Nigeria and Nigerians but it is going to be very messy if the price of oil gravitates towards $20 as predicted ^^ APC and PDP politicians are the same - they do not care about the common people |
I see you also have soft-spot for Baba. As for me this budget is too dubious and insensitive to defend anywhere. |
Rolings:You just give numbers to your assertions and see if I can prove something or not. Rolings:We had your kind here under the ousted PDP government doing exactly what you are doing. Celebrating waste and crass. You always ignore real people's pains and concerns. What is a broke third-world lawmaker doing with 4+ aides? Especially when the broke nation appears to be walking into recession 2016. I hope you are getting paid for defending anti-people actions and policies. Because the politicians that have people's mandate have promised us zero-based budgeting where only projects that have immediate and direct impacts on the masses will be given priority. Alas! we have been trying to link the 2016 spending plan to our immediate needs without success. Rolings:I have advised you to peep into my previous posts and see where I am coming from. The only party I belong to is good governance - I respect authorities but I don't worship mortals. |
Nothing is strange here. |
ducksoup:Sorry Bro we all cannot see things the same way. We are a nation of 180 million people. You are piqued of Bloggers styles of reporting many of us are more concerned of how this new government (we invested so much hope in) is planning for waste and reckless spending. As long as we express our rights as citizens within the gamut of the law of the land - no one has the right to force the other to accept their own personal opinions. |
BALLOSKI:Bros some of us here are veterans in smacking dishonesty and hypocrisy among our elected officials. I have asked you to give us the number of people that make-up the Presidency, no answer? Tell us other MDAs that make-up your so-called Presidency - name them, no answer. You cannot bamboozle us with vague and sleights of hands in 2015. Give us real and definite numbers. |
ducksoup:Why are you taking this personal? Are you an APC stalwart or a beneficiary of APC govt? Bloggers are not as despicable as politicians that see suffering millions but chose to eat with billions. |
yhemsy62:This is an issue affecting thousands. People have always been able to fund their account but not anymore. Do you have a way people can fund their accounts without third party? |
They should eat well ooo. Once dem don belleful we are happy
|
Please which looters are we talking about here. We have two categories now: 1. Those who have looted and left government and 2. Serving public officers that have been allocated loots in 2015 budget |
Sahara Reporter should please help get this 2016 Nigeria budget of waste and corruption out there. With this APC budget war on corruption will now be viewed as charade and vendetta. |
WOCKHARDI:Its from OUR money. This is not the only anomaly in the budget, you will need to see what they plan to buy new cars, change wheels, instal cable, re-buy software, re-buy computers... We have been scammed again only that this time they are also taking away our means of livelihood. |
Rolings:I agree there are other NASS staff. Please how many are they? 20? 50? 100? What is the total annual salary expenditure for these supporting staff? N1 Billion? N5 Billion? N10 Billion? I will give you a model: If there are 100 supporting staff in the NASS being maintained with N500,000 per month It will take the following to offset their upkeep in one fiscal year 100 x N500,000 x 12 months = N600,000,000 So it is safe to say supporting staff budget in the NASS is not expected to be more than N2 Billion for a fiscal year This implies about N(115 - 2) Billion is going to be expended on 469 lawmakers. But in this same nation this NASS is supposed to be caring after: ^^About 2 million of the population are IDPs lacking basic needs of life ^^There have been an unprecedented loss of jobs in the last year and this is expected to continue into 2016 ^^The price of the main income earner of the nation had dipped by as much as 70% in the last year and expected to slip further 2016 ^^ Also remember that more than 70% of the nation's 180 million population is living in poverty Government is designed to improve people welfare. How come this budget takes too much care of "supposed leaders" while the common man groans under economic hardship? Rolings:Please give the total number of staff in the Presidency and the names of these MDAs under Presidency you talk about. I will prove to you the budget can never be justified. |
tafrica: |
Hypocrisy powered by vendetta! You are busy hounding people for the same offenses you are planning for 2016. Masses businesses are being run-down, nation's scholars abandoned overseas, companies leaving in droves, people loosing jobs but you have allocated Billions for your own welfare. |
Rolings:Mr Rolings check my post history. We already know there are 469 lawmakers in the NASS and we are going to be maintaining them with N115 Billion naira next fiscal year. Please how many people make-up Presidency? |
BALLOSKI:You cannot unofficially placate dying masses. There are documents already in public domain all showing the same figures of break-down for all MDAs. The main figures on the document agree very well with the abridged version presented by the President to the NASS. Food budget is not the only thing people have issues with, most budgeted expenses are unimaginable. What a transparent government should have done is to release this document to public same day it was presented to the NASS. |
Alright, let us take chill pills...maybe the document we have now is not correct, just maybe. The government should come out with the official break-down to diffuse this tension |
As in... Fela " Authority stealing.." |
TechRev:Thank you |
Thanks for this information. This is what the government should have been making available to distressed citizens - this govt do not care about common people. Most people's challenge is that transactions are appearing impossible at all, but with this information many concerned citizens will know transactions are still possible but are now more expensive. |
SLIDEwaxie:And this is exactly what APC govt is doing now. So where is the change? |
gebest:Cant you just read before making comment. The original document has been re-posted by NavierStokes with the absurd figures highlighted in yellow. Or are you saying the document is fake? |
NavierStokes:Have you forgotten the budget is based on $38/bbl of crude oil and this has been predicted a joke by the powers that be. We are going to be living on huge loans 2016 but our leaders will never lack anything good - in fact this document makes them richer and more comfortable than when we had abundance. |
squash1986:You have doubled my headache. If these figures are accurate they appear unwittingly-conjured. The 2016 figures have suspicious significant zeros. |
Chai! But President Buhari and APC are supposed to be a departure from "corrupt and anti-people" PDP. PRESIDENCY 39,124,978,809 (How many human-beings make up Presidency?) NATIONAL ASSEMBLY 115,000,000,000 (How many human-beings make up NASS?) But we are supposed to be broke! We are even heading towards recession 2016 with this budget relying heavily on loans! The more I read the budget break-down the severe the headache I am having now gets. I am still on Page 16 but I want to quickly tender unreserved apologies to Ex-President Jonathan for tagging him and his government corrupt. We have continued the "corruption" where he left it so nothing has changed. I must study this "2016 corruption plan" from beginning to the end Insha Allah. |
banki:What exactly are you saying Bro. I like Buhari but I have serious issues with the figures I am seeing. Click the link and study the figures. http://www.yourbudgit.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Appropriation_Bill__Details_.pdf |
Shedding innocent blood everyday...give these boys what they are asking for

Dreams are supernatural. They are common means of communication between human and the other side. Clerics from around the world would be making end-of-the-year predictions/prophesies as we come to the end of 2015 - these visions are usually revealed in dreams. Depending on the form of your spiritual relationship with divinity do not ignore your dreams. If it refuses to go away then it is important. Get more pious and ascetic, seek clarification and guidance the way you believe. Do not act what you have seen in real life as dreams have ways of coming to pass without the characters physical effort. |
I think it is useless going into media battle with SR, from recent events they will always win. I am not sure if they always run their findings with characters involved before going to press. Even people that hate them do not ignore their stories. Anyone that has issue with them better sought it out in a court of law. |
