aresa:Mr. Aresa I see you are very loyal APC partyman. Please advice your party principals they are speedily going into political extinction if people's mood across the nation continues this way. 1. APC, especially the Presidency allowed Saraki and PDP take control of the NASS - a very costly mistake for the President to travel eve of this election. 2. APC and the Presidency have failed to expeditiously dislodge Saraki - poisonous mistake as the President is still traveling leaving many important things unattended. 3. APC and Presidency have failed to keep in touch with the source of their strength - the talakawas. 4. The Presidency has not demonstrated expected bite in decision-making, implementation, enforcement and monitoring. No serious leader keeps rebels around long enough to cause avoidable damages. |
This is one of the reasons we are not moving forward. Too much time and energy are being expended on things that concern "the few" while the critical elements of our collective existence are being neglected. This government soared on the wings of the poor masses to defeat PDP but 1 year later it has failed to urgently and deliberately pay them back. The masses are now more politically enlightened and people will be giving their votes and support according to their personal well-being. Expectedly, elections being held at this time are favoring the opposition. If the issues of fuel scarcity, power failure and job losses are promptly addressed today many people will still keep fate with this government. |
opalu: |
In the past protests like this are best organized by the labour union but these days the leadership of labour appear to have been pocketed by government. This government in its short span has very deadly human-right record against protests I will not advise anyone involve in any protest not organized by labour union. |
We need a revolution badly |
Deen77:Bro please stop this 16 years excuse. We heard it on the first month of this government inauguration and 1 year later the excuse is still being sold. We matched, campaigned and voted for this government but we are not blind to see their inefficiencies, misplaced-priorities, waste, in-actions, in sensitivities, over-celebration and hero-worshiping. Today, we are still earning from oil and these resources still being wasted on things that only concern the few government officials. It has been revealed Mr. President and Governors overseas trips are ALWAYS done in dollars and this usually runs into hundreds of thousand dollars. Even the first family have been pictured using foreign-made goods that are not cheap. It took Mr. President 6 months to announce his cabinet - but the list when released showed he could have done that in two weeks. We trusted and voted PMB to solve the 16 years problem not to be telling us what we already know. If his government continue reminding us the problem is 16 years old they are indirectly telling us we trusted the wrong guys. |
Sorry Uncle Lai. Baba and his government are not feeling our pains. While we do not have jobs or getting laid-off Baba's nieces are being secretly employed in top positions in CBN. While we cannot get small forex to sustain our small businesses Baba and friends get all the dollars to travel; Baba's children have their school fees paid in hard currencies from our sweat - Baba was even alleged to have said its a tough luck for those of us outside government. Herdsmen kill everyday everywhere and Baba has never said anything about this menace. How can Baba be feeling our pains when Baba's government has already concluded plans to tax us more (TV, phone-calls, house-maids etc). Your government has not even solved a single major social menace that we could look at and perhaps trust your words again. You always tell us to exercise patience but what single sacrifice is Baba or anyone in his government making in this though time. Have you reduced your fat salaries and allowances? Have you stopped using our sweat to fund your children education? Have you given out redundant cars in your convoy and garage to less-privileged Nigerians? Your "trust-worthy" government wants to give grants to employed yet demanding down-payment up to N25,000. You people have no ideas what we are feeling. |
enlightenedmind:Thank God for Saraki trial at CCT - now we know what constitutes the more than 70% recurrent expenditure we have been recording in our annual budgets since 1999. I hope people with access to all the data can break down the national spending figures since 1999. The percentage of recurrent expenditures that go to salaries, allowances and up-keep of the President, Vice-President, Ministers and the National Assembly. For instance the NASS is made-up of 469 elected officers while the Executive arm of government is made up of roughly 36 Ministers, the President, the Vice President and other public staff. It will be a great idea to know the exact number of all these public servants and what % of the recurrent expenditure go to them. Past Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Senate-President and Speakers have unacceptably fat pension packages. These people are just the few of us yet they take the largest share leaving over 170 million people to fight for crumps. |
What other evidences do the youths need to stop fighting for these people. (APC=PDP). Please expend your energy on improving your personal well-being - stop dying for politicians, they do not care about anybody. |
Yesterday Oyo state Governor said to civil servants and I quote " ...we have to reduce your salaries...you cannot continue collecting the same salaries when the price of oil has fallen to $38/barel..." But President Buhari salaries and allowances have not been reduced to reflect the current economic situation of the nation - in fact Mr. President (like Senator Saraki) has enjoyed very fat pension and allowances up to the period he started serving as civilian president. His family education, feeding and medicals are provided for in his packages as a serving President and a retired HOS/General. Where are the tax details on these fat emoluments. Our 36 state Governors have open-cheque spending called security vote (usually in billions of naira) - since 1999 they never account for this money and nobody ever asked them. As at today there has not been any talk by RMAFC to review Governors or lawmakers take-home to reflect the economic situation. They never talk about reducing their millions and billions or increasing taxes on the rich but every-time they always come for the poor (but our Vice President preaches Jesus). Today Bill gate posted 2 economic indices from Nigeria on his twitter handle to underscore the fact that the Nigeria is still very rich but with incredibly high level of poverty. The man, like other foreigners, is confused why we are so hungry when all he sees is big money. They have decided to keep us down - their salaries and allowances are in millions with some running into billions but they only want to increase taxes on N18k minimum-wage guys. They want to tax us more to keep-up their high life, pay their children salaries in CBN amd FIRS, and travel the globe with their families. |
Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo has advocated that for the nation to move forward, the Federal and State Government must reduce dependence on sharing revenue made from oil sale. With all due respect, what practical steps has the Presidency taken to reduce the nation dependence on oil? The nation spending plan (Budget 2016) as submitted to the NASS does not reflect prioritization of Agriculture and Solid Minerals (for example) over Oil and Gas. Now that the Presidency has taken delivery of the detail of passed 2016 Budget can we have this document in public domain. “The foundation for a strong economy demands that we have appropriate fiscal policies that will help the country that is arising from a very low rate of VAT and a low taxpayer’s base. We are focusing on increasing the country’s taxpayers base. We are committed to expanding the tax net,” he stated. Many real people will disagree with you sir. No common Nigerian pays low tax/levy/bill/fee for anything anywhere. In Lagos state for example you pay big for everything. We already have VAT on every commodity purchased, we have government backed touts every bus-stop adding extra-tax to our transport fare, we pay toll when we use Lekki road, every hawker/trader/artisan pays for government ticket daily/monthly/annually, we have police harassing and collecting egunje when we drive or carry our 10-yr old laptop or move our belongings from one location to another, people with salary have their tax deducted from source ditto government contractors. The taxes have never been low on common people, never! Not many people will also agree with you that increasing tax rate (obviously on commoners) is the foundation for a strong Nigeria economy. Professor your government claim to have been recovering loots since June 2015. Please can we have the amount recovered so far? Cant this recovered loot be used to implement government plans instead of turning back to the poor again and again. And why are your salaries, allowances, estacodes still very high in-spite of the nation economic hardships? Can we also have detail of Presidency officers' tax deductions in public domain. We should be able to follow your examples. “...We are focusing on increasing the country’s taxpayers base. We are committed to expanding the tax net,” he stated...Professor why do government officials always derive joy in inflicting more pains on already impoverished commoners? We understand the new tax policies include taxing plasma tv users, house-helps, generators, bore-holes and many more we are yet to learn about. In Ogun state for example Okada riders used to pay a daily tax/bill of N250 and N200 to government-backed ACCOMORAN and AMORAN respectively but this has been increased to N350 and N400. Inspite of the fact that the government share in this ACCOMORAN/AMORAN bill the government has also introduced a state sticker of N2500. But in other news Professor as common people are being oppressed many of your friends and party-men are collecting millions of naira as salary, allowances and pension simultaneously. We even understand some politicians believe these public officers pay should be increased. So the policy is to continue taking more and more from the poor masses and giving more and more to the rich/elite. We pay for your children health-care, school fees and feeding. Your children have automatic employment in CBN, FIRS and other choice organizations. We pay for the whole family upkeep but you always come back to ask for more but you climb the pulpit to talk to us about Jesus? We never see you when we have accidents or cannot afford our hospital bills, you have stopped scholarships that give us hope of a better future. You have offered grants but insisted on collecting N10k/N20k/N25k with no assurance the grants will be given at all. |
Every reasonable observer will understand the OP's frustration. Many of us are like him - from being unrepentant Buharists to confused Nigerians. We believed too much of in the legends of Buhari hence expecting his government to be a turning point for good in our lives. What do you expect when people watch as their living condition gets worse daily - only to discover the leaders conditions are getting better. It is more depressing to also realize the leaders also secretly put about 900 of their children in top positions in CBN just about the same time many citizens are loosing their means of income. The most unfortunate fact is inspite of APC's failures PDP has never presented itself as a problem-solving alternative towards 2019. |
This is one of the awkward benefits of the current economic crisis - majority of middle-class Nigerians have been so comfortable that they hardly notice the plights of common people. I have seen this everywhere I have been in Nigeria - Although it is usually sporadic in most states. Now that the educated Nigerians are seeing how bad our conditions have been what should we start doing as a people? |
May God continue to bless Sahara reporters. Anyone that willingly dies for any politician (be APC or PDP) will be difficult to mourn. |
sage50:Everyone appears too frustrated to continue questioning all ills in our society. There are just too many ills and people with mandate do not seem to be interested in addressing them. |
Do a simple test on the samples. Adding water to the lime produces slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) in an exothermic reaction. CaO(s) + H2O(l) → Ca(OH)2(s) If the whole container gets considerably warmer on addition of water your discovery may be a limestone. But to be solid sure you can get a small quantity of Hydro Chloric acid (HCl). When added to limestone this gives off carbon dioxide CO2 gas. A gas that will put-off a burning candle flame. |
Only a revolution can solve this nation' problems |
Good policy announcement that can only be successful with spirited implementation. There is a reason all similar past projects have been scored below par. If government, honestly, wants to invest on ready-to-produce Nigerians this is where the services of tested disciplined hands like Ribadu and Ezekwezile can be employed. Most Nigerians, particularly the youths have already lost faith in the new APC-led-FG words this is another opportunity for the FG to prove this is not a government for the rich and elites only. |
Relevant questions for interested youths Who is qualify for this loan? Where does one apply? When should one apply? Apart from the NYSC certificate, what other items/requirements are needed to complete application? Any tax incentives/holidays/exception for beneficiaries while paying back this loan? Any conditions for guarantors? |
Words for the wise Rivers residents again - if you value your life buy enough fuel and watch the violence from the comfort of your living room. Let the gladiators fight their fight. They will confabulate again after the storm. If you die for a Nigerian politician...they do not care a hoot about you or your family. |
Still from the Lagos Tenancy Law 2011 ... |
Just by the way...many tenants and landlords alike have been breaking the laws all along. 4.-(1) It shall be unlawful for a landlord or his agent to demand or receive from a sitting tenant rent in excess of six (6) months from a monthly tenant and one (1) year from a yearly tenant in respect of any premises without prejudice to the nature of tenancy held at the commencement of the tenancy. |
heroesoff8:Laws are subject to multiple interpretations. Could you please quote from the exact/relevant sections of the law to buttress your assertions. This is a link to pdf copy of the law. http://www.nigeria-law.org/Legislation/Laws%20of%20the%20States/Lagos%20State/Tenancy%20Law%202011..pdf |
jayriginal:Please I am interested in your demystification of this popular "myth". I have picked-up a net copy of the tenancy law to educate myself. http://www.nigeria-law.org/Legislation/Laws%20of%20the%20States/Lagos%20State/Tenancy%20Law%202011..pdf Could you please point to the exact section that invalidates this popular "myth". |
God bless Sahara reporters |
Akainzo:If your deductions are correct I am sure not many tenants/law-enforcers are aware of the pre-conditions to enjoying this grace period. I think its a good thing we all should, once-in-a-while, study laws guiding our lives and regulating our businesses. This is a link to detail New Lagos Tenancy Law 2011 https://www.nigeriapropertycentre.com/blog/renting-letting/the-lagos-tenancy-law-in-detail General Application |
Ramanto:Storming your tenant's place is a crime and can send you to jail. Ramanto:He has diabolical powers yet he still needs to oppress his tenants to augment his income. He should have been using the powers to make money instead. This Landlord or any other landlord is subject to the law of land on tenancy. |
donholy28: bettercreature:Everyone MUST live and abide by the law of the land. The Lagos state government has prescribed a minimum of 6 months notice/grace for eviction - anyone doing anything in contrary is committing crime. Laws are made that people do not turn themselves into gods. |
If you live in Rivers and you value your life stay in-door Saturday - buy enough fuel and watch the violence from tv. |
fnep2smooth:Reading your story for the first time. How did it end bro. |
SR have my respects - until I have cogent reasons to feel otherwise. |
SaharaReporters learned that VP Osinbajo had already sent his advance party to India, and had booked hotels and made arrangements for ground transportation, all at a cost of $250,000, before the cancelation of the trip on Saturday. When will SaharaReporters be recognized as true, consistent and foremost champions of good governance in Nigeria? A conference trip is gulping about 50 million naira - when states can hardly pay salaries. 50 million naira can easily make some 1000 Nigerian family happy at this trying time. Obviously, the obnoxious budget figures are not really mistakes but deliberate misappropriation by our leaders. There are only 2 Ministers on this trip and score of unnamed others - of what benefit is a trip (like this) when the vast majority of the population are going through unprecedented hardship and hunger. |
