Politics › Re: Disbar Dele Farotimi - Afe Babalola Tells LPDC by ghm: 7:16pm On Dec 13, 2024 |
AlphaSoul: Your post here makes absolutely NO sense! It's completely off point.
This issue ISN'T between 2 men of Yoruba descent BUT it involves up to 10 different entities who have been extremely criminally defamed including the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
A lot of highly ignorant commentators (most of who are clearly identified Igbo monikers here on this thread right from page 1 and on many other threads have been using highly imprintable words to insult the 95-year-old iconic legal luminary Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, who unknown to many of them fully supported Peter Obi in his bid for the Presidency.
It's even more irritating (from your post and that of the others here that you all do NOT read properly and do NOT realize that the ORIGINAL case which this 56-year-old dude called Dele Farotimi is referring to is a Lagos State land matter involving a popular aristocratic Lagos land-owning family who Chief Afe Babalola's legal firm helped to win a Supreme Court case several years ago and gained the huge family land on the Lekki Peninsula back which the Lagos State government had acquired several years ago (during the military rule) and the developers of Pinnock Estate and other estates who had already built estates on the land went back and challenged the Supreme Court victory by the Eletu family to prevent their estates from being demolished. It was during this period that this 56-year-old Dele Farotimi was hired by one of the real estate developers in this case got involved. He was NEVER part of the original judgment that the 95-year-old Aare Afe Babalola won for the popular Lagos family and it was NOT a case of politics! It was a pure land matter. So, it was WRONG or Dele to cast severe aspersions on Afe Babalola for winning that land case at the Supreme Court for his client, and he further insulted and defamed the Supreme Court and up to 10 others including General Olusegun Obasanjo (rtd) in his book.
Read BELOW the rebuttal by Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, in 2 different publications to understand better the kind of very irresponsible words Dele used in the book.
https://punchng.com/how-dele-farotimi-defamed-me-afe-babalola/
https://www.thecable.ng/full-text-afe-babalolas-petition-on-how-dele-farotimi-defamed-him/
I have watched Dele Farotimi in past videos online, and I found some of his style of communication as that of someone suffering from a split personality disorder. There are some so-called human rights activists like that who some gullible people follow without realizing on time are mental cases or suffering from bipolar disorder!
The case is now in multiple courts and the right thing has been down to reign in this guy. There is NO room for absolute freedom to insult people with the intention of lowering their hard-earned reputation in the eyes of the public anywhere on earth. If you make multiple defamatory allegations online or offline, you have to back it up. Dele had earlier told Seun Okinbaloye on Channels Television before he was arrested for deliberately NOT appearing earlier in court after he was summoned since July 2024 that he is ready to be challenged in court. So, we will see how far he can extricate himself.
Mercy Chinwo, Eniola Badmus, Burna Boy, El-Rufai's son, the 2 PDP politicians who were criminally defamed by Deji Adeyanju recently, and many more have taken firm action about these acts of criminal defamations and/or cyber bullying against them which had lowered them in the eyes of the public. All over the world, online and offline defamation of character are NEVER tolerated and this one involving Aare Afe Babalola and others is in order and will be used to teach others a lesson (including Omoyele Sowore and that notorious online People's Gazette that are known for criminally manipulating news headlines and stories to deceive readers) on ethics and decorum. Thank you! I hope we get it one day. One of the greatest thing I learnt in this case and others is "YOUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH STOPS WHERE MY RIGHT BEGINS" |
Politics › Re: Disbar Dele Farotimi - Afe Babalola Tells LPDC by ghm: 7:08pm On Dec 13, 2024 |
Armanipounds: The letter from Afe to LPDC is quite baseless... When has Afe become a spokesman for the Supreme Court? We do lots of nonsense here in Africa.. So because I have personal issues with a man, I should be seeking for him to be disbarred because he made some sensitive remarks? If those statements made by Dele ain't true, Afe should write a book too discrediting all that has been said by Dele, it makes more sense, or confine himself to the legal proceedings he has sinced commenced at whatever court. I listened to Dele a couple of times and stopped. His languages, vocabulary etc does not represent the type of Nigeria I am hoping for, it is indecent, crude and full of bitterness. His attitude is like someone who doesn't care if the baby is thrown away as long as the dirty water is thrown away; such attitude is not good for anyone, talk less for a country. Starting from the title of the book "Nigeria and its criminal justice system" brings insults and disrepute to the country and to all the truthful, patriotic, hardworking and loyal Nigerians in the judiciary given that it is rare not to have bad eggs in any system. It would have been better if he had isolated the issues he wants to deal with from the whole system. The worst part is that he is a lawyer and should know better and see how he can explore the provisions of the system itself to clean itself or sponsor a bill that can bring reforms but he chose to go this way. He said it himself that a court invited him and he didn't go, that they know his house. He said anyone who is not happy with what he has written should go to court and yet he went after the Supreme Court like he doesn't even know his profession. Even if SC is not perfect, we don't have another one for now and it should remain supreme for rule of law and order to reign or we fall into anachy as a country and that will be chaos. Many more cases will spirng up and he has gotten his desire. |

Vlibray: Denied bail for a bailable offence ? You people are really funny in that Nigeria.. Do you know many times people have made/published false claims about Trump or Biden or Obama ? Countless times. Have you seen anybody arresting anyone ?. No Most of the time, those who try to silence or censor someone are often guilty of the very thing being discussed. .. you don't seem to see the difference between thse people you quoted and this case: Let me help, Trump. Obama and Biden are public persons, politicians, presidents, they put themselves out there for all to see and should be ready for such things. Afe Babalola is a private person and private persons can choose the level of insults they are willing to tolerate from others. |

rmx: It’s obvious People know very little , some have even gone as far as saying the value of dollars or other fx relative to the naira does not matter , since we spend naira yet Prices of everything is galloping due to the same devaluation and inflation caused by high fx rate , a lot of companies we follow reference impact of fx and dollars in there reports and operations , it’s not by agidi or strong head o , people will learn I don't think anyone is arguing about the negative impact of devaluation on cost of living, stocks and share investments, prices of goods and services. What I see as the issue is that those who are pushing it are doing it in a very narrow-minded, straight-jacketed, textbook/theoretical way. They closed their minds to other possibilities that can make one take advantage of the situation. Savvy persons will not fold his/her hands and watch these policies ruin them but take advantage of the situation instead of lamenting and cursing the policy makers. To shed more light so that it will not just be hypothetical talk, here are some of the ways people managed these situations: 1. Borrow in Naira and convert to forex. My eyes opened when a friend borrowed N50m and converted to USD @ N360 to $1; he is still paying the loan in NGN while the rate has fallen as low as N1700 to $1. Some did the same with UCAP mutual funds, etc. Some people change part of the income to forex monthly, etc. Someone quoted Eco 101 earlier, but we learn different things differently in each situation, I learnt in Eco 101 that borrowers gain during inflation. 2. Diversify into forex denominated investments instead of having 100% in NGN shares. Do Eurobonds, dollar funds, global stocks with Chaka, Bamboo, Trove etc. In fact, a sister/similar thread was even opened for that as far back as 2020 - https://www.nairaland.com/5669161/us-stocks-pick-alert3. Reduce the tenure of your investments in NGN stocks. Take profit regularly, trade for earnings, news, do JIJO etc. That is why we pick these days, no lifetime loyalty to any stock any more. We go for stocks with asymmetrical returns, steady dividend, astronomical growth etc. 4. Keep no savings in devalued currency, in fact, have only what you will spend in NGN. Let me stop here. |

BabsO2: Looking at Nov 2023 total volume of veritas capital sold was 438.6 million units at weighted average price of 37kobo this was a massive jump from prior October volumes of 47.8 million units at an average price of 26kobo So the point 3 is verified doable by smart (abi insider info) money.
Looking at July and August 2024, much easier to take the bullet 4 profits in August but not impossible in July if the seller actively used limits to manage the sales. The transaction volumes for the months of June to August were loud above 400 million units every month.
Verdict: The loud returns possible around those periods. Thanks for taking the time to show people what is possible as a neutral person. There are many stocks that behave similarly CWG, Chams, Japaulgold, even UBA and OANDO. The good thing about it is that you don't have to be an insider, hints were given here by some of our gurus. Just DYOR and see whatever you can use from the hints given here. Shikenah. Caveat: Not all hints lead to this type of experience, I was not able to jump out of DSR and NASCON at the peak before it started dipping when the merger of DF stalled, it was converted to long term and was averaged down to reduce the loss. For now, I will wait it out until they turn into profit again. |

vacanci: On the day you bought veritas capital at N0.30k, it traded N0.20k through out the month and next.
On the day you claimed to sell 50m units of Veritas, the total volume for that day was 7.05M units.
The records are there on the NGX for anyone to verify, so take am easy See, what do you want to get by this excercise? It is obvious you are not very conversant with stocks trading and investments. A little education can help here! 1. Have you heard of daily High or Low? What is recorded for you histotically is the daily open and closing price; there are fluctuations in-between. E.g. Just last week I bought Aradel about 480 but the price recorded for that day was 517. 2. Did you notice the word "around" in the post, it means it wasn't bought in a single transaction in a single day, you just submit your instruction to the broker and they will buy/sell over many days until your mandate is cleared, the 0.3 is the average after all purchase is done, do you not know about that? 3. Do you know that it is rare to have the exact number of shares you requested? So the 50m, 15m, 1600, 1700, 65m were rounded-off for simplicity and not the exact figures. Exact figure for 15m will be something like 15,045,267.52 etc. That is the type of things that are possible, even in this current era, I was here when someone shared his/her N 300m + portfolio. I wanted to share contract notes but for what reasons? to prove what? I request that you let it rest and let's see where we can position buy/sell mandates today for joy tomorrow. Thank you! |

HesInMe: It is almost surprising, although somewhat understandable, how little people understand the impact of FX policy and devaluation. Oya, adjust your portfolio and its 1000% gains for currency devaluation, i.e., quote it in US dollars. Then compare with someone who kept their money in dollars and earned the average 25% gain of the S&P 500 index.
Result: You are a lot poorer than you know. But continue suffering and smiling. You are right but if we think out of the box, it may occur to us that it is not the same with everybody, situations may differ. E.g. someone I know: 1. Brought in $10K into the country 2. Changed it at N1,500 to $1, that's N15m. 3. bought 50,000,000 units of Veritascap at N0.30K around 1/11/2023 4. Sold at N1.30 on 11/7/2024 for guess how much - N65m 5. Change 65M back to USD at 1700 that's a whopping $38K - over 20K on top of 10K. This is real, not an hypothetical story. It is not recommended for anyone, DYOR, you are the CEO of your portfolio.. |

Another waste of money, this initiative will fail very soon. The pain is that before it fails, several billion of tax payers’ money would have gone down the drain.
New ideas should latch on the existing structures and infrastructure.
What’s wrong with pushing the idea through existing banks? There won’t be need for a separate elaborate offices, vehicles, staff and jamborees. The funds to implement the new bank would have gone into first batch of beneficiaries.
I like the implementation of the student loans, students registered on a website, they are verified, confirmed etc, funds are disbursed into educational institutions, students are notified. Simple. |

mikeapollo: . Please you are free to believe this clueless, incompetent government at your own peril. It is your choice. They say they are for ''free market economy'', whatever that nonsense means to them. Governments in developing nations are supposed to take deliberate, targeted decisions to intervene in key areas of the economy to achieve desired results for the benefits of citizens and eliminate or reduce poverty.
A government's attitude, pedigree, antecedents, integrity or lack thereof forms part of their policy credibility and policy appraisal.
A president that would announce a major policy decision like subsidy removal on his inauguration day when there was no cabinet in place, no ministers, no industry or stakeholder engagement, etc. to provide some guidance on the procedure or methodology etc.
A government that woke up one day, without any meaningful stakeholder consultation or engagement and devalued the currency from about N650/USD to N1400 /1USD.
A government that promised Labour and gave them assurance that fuel price would not be increased if they accepted N70,000 as minimum wage, but a few days later deceived them and increased fuel price from N600 to N1000.
A govt that woke up on day and imposed astronomical increases in electricity tariff on citizens without any consultation etc.
A government that woke up one day, without any citizen engagement and changed the national anthem as if it is the personal copyright of the president.
This government takes bizarre actions before it seeks for advice or informed opinion. Such a government cannot be trusted on anything. You are free to trust them though, if they catch your fancy.
Tinubu's government is the worst government in this Republic! You can believe the lies that the CBN and Fin Minister tell you Okay o. I hear you; all the statements above are factual and true but I am not disturbed as such because my focus is not to be right. If I believe all these as dead end, I won't touch any company in Nigeria with my money nor be on this platform/thread to glean information on the best place to position. They will report Lafarge leaving but will be silent about the chinese company coming in. As far as NG is concerned, there is really no loss of value.
