RomanceNigerian And Gay. Dodging Police And Yahoo Boys by ghostfacekillar(op): 8:38pm On Nov 22, 2017
It was a life-changing moment for David when five police officers in Nigeria’s biggest city, Lagos, locked him in the back of a van two years ago. The officers scrolled through the photos on his mobile phone and mocked the hand gestures he used when he spoke. They also threatened to ring his father to tell him his son was gay. Eventually, they asked for a bribe so he could leave. “I didn’t give them anything. A-ny-thing,” he stressed, recalling the incident. “If they caught me while I was with another man, maybe… but I knew my rights. You don’t arrest someone because you don’t like the way he walks,” he told AFP. “I kept strong in front of them,” he added. “But the truth is I cried in my room. It was a life-turning point… Something inside of me broke.” David, who comes from a working-class area of Lagos, was 19 when he was detained. He had only just come to understand and accept that he was gay in a country where homosexuality is banned. Now he takes care to cultivate what he says is an “androgenous look”, watching how he walks, talks and what clothes he wears. He has even grown a thin beard over his delicate features. “I’m going to keep myself alive, so I can make a difference,” he told AFP defiantly, dressed in a black T-shirt and washed-out jeans, just like any other student in the city. – ‘Gay activities’ – Memories of that day in 2015 came flooding back to David when he heard that more than 80 people had been arrested at a Lagos hotel in early August. The Lagos state government said those detained had been engaging in “gay activities” and “permitting male persons to have carnal knowledge of themselves against the order of nature”. Twenty-eight are expected to appear in court in the coming days and risk up to 14 years in prison if they are convicted. Twelve minors have been tried behind closed doors but it is unclear what has happened to them. Cases involving the remainder appear to have been lost in the judicial system. Bisi Alimi, a Nigerian gay rights activist who came out on television in 2004 and now lives in London, said cases often disappear if someone has the means or connections. Legislation against gay marriage and same-sex unions was passed in early 2014, reinforcing existing laws on homosexuality. The legislation, which imposes a maximum 14-year sentence, was condemned by human rights groups but was widely applauded in religiously conservative Nigeria, both Christian and Muslim. No-one has yet been convicted but activists say it encourages corruption and extortion. “If you’re gay and rich you can get away with it. But if you’re gay and poor, you’ll end up rotting in jail for the rest of your life,” said David. – Yahoo Boys – If police abuse homosexuals, so too do the “Yahoo Boys” — the name for Nigerian internet fraudsters who have taken to posting fake profiles on gay dating and meet-up sites such as Grindr. When an unknowing victim arrives at the rendezvous point for a date, he is forced to pay money to prevent his family being told he’s gay. “Dating online is so stressful, you just become paranoid,” said Wale, the founder of kitodiaries.com, which resembles other gay lifestyle websites around the world. But Kito Diaries is different in that its nearly 3,000 anonymous subscribers share details of Yahoo Boys to be avoided and what precautions to take. “There must be gay friends who know him otherwise it’s a big ‘No’,” said Wale. “You need to meet up in public spaces, this is rule number one. And there are places in Lagos that are no-go areas, you hear too many stories there.” Secret parties in hotels, like the one police raided in August, or in the northern city of Zaria where 53 men were arrested in April, happen regularly, according to Alimi. “They (hotels) are one of the few places where it’s possible for gay people to meet and to be who they really are for a few hours,” he said. But he added he always advised people not to go because the risk was too high. Despite paranoia, tears and fear, both Wale and David, now in their early 20s, have no desire to leave Nigeria. “I want things to move here,” said Wale. “The law was made to keep us quiet out of fear. But actually it enabled us to come together, to fight together, to discuss. “I’ve had three years to learn to be afraid but the fear is now anger. And anyway, if they (the government) came up with a law, it means they finally realised that we exist.”

Health7 Ways Nigerians And The Health Care System Are Killing Themselves by ghostfacekillar(op): 9:44pm On Nov 21, 2017
My sister is a nurse, I have always wanted to do this post but has been postponing it. But something happened some 4 days ago. A friend of ours died of high blood sugar. She’s just 25 and recently finished her NYSC. Many of us were unhappy because this death could have been averted. All that made my sister advising that we should take care of our health. Not every time we blame the devil but we are the cause of our misfortune. So I am doing this so we all can be careful, learn so we can live a better life. Here are seven (7) ways Nigerians and the health care system are killing themselves. Wrong diagnosis : This is general problem but in the case of Nigerian doctors and hospitals they get away with it easily. Few years ago a 5 year old boy was diagnose of HIV. Na so them begin treat this small pikin for about 1 year and the child was not getting better. Not until they went to another hospital and they found out it was just malaria parasites. Thank God the child has grown stronger. And the first hospital that diagnosed the child for HIV is University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) Wrong diagnosis has killed so many Nigerians and still killing. Inability of patients to Confirm diagnosis in another hospital : Nigerian health care system is boring, poor and the Government is not willing to do much. Please try and confirm diagnosis from 2 or 3 different hospitals before concluding. Na so Federal medical center for Asaba (FMC) diagnose my aunty of tumor in her leg. The leg was seriously swollen and paining her. The drugs given to her was not working and she couldn’t go to work or move for 3 weeks. Not until my sister who is a nurse asked her to run another test in another hospital for another ailment which she did and they discovered it was just a slight ailment which they began the treatment. Now she’s alright now and has resumed work. If you are diagnose of any ailment in a hospital, try and run another test in another hospital to confirm. Wrong prescription : Many people have died of wrong prescription. Treating Typhoid fever with tuberculosis drugs. We have heard of many cases where drugs prescribed by doctors to patients end up damaging and causing internal problems for the patient. Self-medication : In as much sometimes self-medication could be cheaper and helpful, there are times it brings about damage that cannot be able to reverse. Am sure some of us have heard cases of people who had an ailment, they refused going to the hospital, rather opt to self-medicate and end up hurting their health. If you are sick or you notice any form of symptoms, abeg waka go hospital. Carelessness and Carefree Attitude : So many of us are so carefree with our health that we don’t care what goes into our mouths and stomachs. The lady friend i mentioned earlier that died. She had been told by doctor that she was diabetic. According to what I learnt, she rarely goes for checkup, no medication, she eats any damn food and she’s fat. Her blood sugar even rose to 500 according to test few minutes before her death. We all need to be conscious of our health and what goes into our system. Nigerian Poor Health Care System : We all will agree that we don’t have a good health care system. Most of our politicians don’t treat themselves here in Nigeria. They go abroad to do so. So na we ordinary Nigerians go dey use the system. In most developed countries, it’s a rare case to hear that a woman died while delivering. But in Nigeria it’s just so common. When a woman is about to deliver, na so fear go dey catch everybody for the family. Nigeria has a very poor health care system. Poor emergency handling : Nigerian hospitals, doctors are too slow, poor in handling emergency cases. A patient who is dying is brought into the hospital, sometimes it will even take hours them to start treating the patient. Sometimes the patient sef go don die sef before them go respond. For Christ sake this is an emergency situation, attend to patients fast. Presently, the family of the lady that died of high blood sugar are trying to sue the doctor of the first hospital they took her to. The late girl was still alive for some hours when they took her there. I don’t know how they said it that the doctor was unable to attend to her. Nigerian doctors and hospitals should attend to emergency cases with swift and emergency.

RomanceMy Conversation With A Native Doctor Concerning Money Ritual by ghostfacekillar(op): 8:45pm On Nov 21, 2017
I and my colleagues were sent to a remote village in the south western part of Nigeria for some work. It was just an engineering work that was supposed to take us just for 3 days but ended up taking 7 days. The house we were given to stay was owned by a native doctor. We were given the boys quarters while the landlord who is the native doctor was staying in the duplex. I and my colleagues were scared because it was the house of a native doctor. But we were assured that we have nothing to be scared of, the only thing is we mind our business and don’t look for trouble. Na so me and my colleagues begin dey respect ourselves. My own is for us to do and get out of that place. I and my colleagues were not so happy sef, the firm didn’t see anywhere else to get us a house, it was the house owned by a native doctor, he even lives there sef. 2 days later, I and my colleagues returned to the compound to meet a crowd of people. Na so everywhere full with people for the compound. Na so we mind our business come go our rooms. But the noise in the compound was so distracting. It was later after some calmness has returned to the place. One of the indigene that visited us, we asked him what happened. He explained that it was a young man who came with his friends to baba ilajo (native doctor). The guy want to pull down one rich maga, so he wants to add “plus” to the “Yahoo” to make it “yahoo plus.” But it was unfortunate for the guy that the concussion baba ilajo gave to him to use, but the guy ran mad which was why they brought him back to baba and everywhere filled with people. Na so fear they catch us for that compound. Make we do comot for the community. The next day evening I and my colleagues where outside the house taking some fresh air when baba ilajo came to us. Fear be don catch us because we dey fear the man. Na so baba sit down join us come dey advise us. That was when he brought out the incident that happened the previous day of the yahoo guy that that ran mad after taking his concussion. There were shocking things he (baba ilajo) revealed about money rituals. He said that, any one that did money rituals and succeeded, became rich, that person would eventually be rich if they work hard. So that means if you come to them for money rituals, the rituals only make the money come faster but there would always be consequences. And if you see anyone who did money rituals and didn’t succeed, they weren’t destined to go far more than what they have in life. That is to say that everyone has the ability to be rich, bjt it all depends on time. Money rituals fast forwards the timing without much hardwork. I was so curious because I noticed from most movies I watch, and even in reality, native doctors will make charms for people who end up in mansions, big cars and houses, and yet they (native doctors) live in abject poverty. Na so me sef ask baba ilajo why its most times so. I don’t know if he was being sincere or truthful with his answers, but he said most native doctors are not rich because they don’t want to. I ask why didn’t they want to be rich, at least we all want good things of life. Baba said that he’s rich and he’s not lacking, at least the house we are staying is his. Yes the house we stayed is his, but he can still be richer than. If I want to do money rituals, I will surely be the world’s richest man, if not I’m not doing. Baba ilajo said most native doctors chose to be poor because anything relating to money ritual is not permanent, something bad surely comes with it. Baba was trying to be diplomatic with answers, he doesn’t want to open up more
RomanceRe: 16 Things That Would Have Happened If Hurricane Harvey Happen For Naija by ghostfacekillar(op): 8:40pm On Nov 21, 2017
0. Ethnicity and tribal war. Imagine if the incident happened in south eastern state like Enugu, some Yorubas and Hausas will blame Nnamdi kanu and his IPOB group for their sins. Infact they will even wish that the flood wash away IPOB and Kanu, or even kill all of them because of their foolishness and Biafra agitation. If it happened in south western state like Ogun, some Igbos and Hausas will call them Afonja, ritual den and headquarters of skull mining association of Nigeria because of the terrible state of ritual killings and animal parts dealings in the area. They would abuse Awolowo and wished the whole of Yorubas are killed by the flood. Imagine if it happened in the north like kano, some Igbos and Yorubas will blame the Arewa, that God is punishing them for the quick notice given to the Igbos. They will also blame the past northern leaders who were not able to develop the region after about 30 years of power being in the north. 11. Political cheap points. PDP will use the opportunity to score some points with campaigns. 12. Massive looting and corruption- Government would disburse funds but it would be an avenue for corrupt people to share from the money. 13. Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Otedola and other rich and powerful elites would donate billions of naira. UN, US and other foreign agencies would donate money and relief materials, but don’t be surprised that you will see them selling the relief materials in Balogun market or Ariaria market. Money donated, you won’t see impact of it or what was done with the money. Hunger will be high in flood IDP. 14. After the disaster, some people in the IDP camp will refuse to go back home. Apparently they have found a new home in the camp as the want to continue living in the camp. 15. Government response would be very poor and late. 16. It won’t attract much international attention.
Romance16 Things That Would Have Happened If Hurricane Harvey Happen For Naija by ghostfacekillar(op): 8:39pm On Nov 21, 2017
I’m sure most of us are aware of the natural disaster, Hurricane Harvey in Texas, United States of America. I really admired the way the American government, the people are handling the issue. If Hurricane Harvey had happened in Nigeria, here are 16 things that you will likely see. 1. President Buhari will blame Jonathan and former administration for the chaos. 2. APC government will blame PDP for 16 years of misrule. PDP will blame APC for 2 years of chaotic leadership. 3. Fayose will make the news. He will blame Buhari’s ear defects for not taking advice of Nigerian geographical agencies to prevent the issues. 4. Death toll would have gotten to over 10,000 and over 3 million people displaced 5. Controversies surrounding accurate number of casualties. The media will report 50,000 deaths and 3m people displaced. Police record will be 80,000 deaths and 4m people displaced. Their report will be different from Army, DSS. 6. Another IDP camp will be set up. 7. Nigerian celebrities (most especially the Z Lists) will look for a way to re-launch their career through the incident. Some will come to the media to announce the donations of exorbitant amounts, but won’t fulfill. The few ones that will do, some of them would take relief materials to the displaced, take photos with them and upload on social media (doing for the media). 8. Slay queens have seen an avenue for attention. Some ladies will take photos of them inside the flood and upload on social media. You will see captions like, “Chilling inside the flood, God saved me.” 9. Some religious leaders would say God is only punishing us for our sins with the flood. And so many houses would be turned to prayer houses praying that God should forgive our sins.
