"Daddy why are you leaving?" Iremide asked Jidenna. She didn't understand why her father no longer lived in the house with them.

"I....i have work baby. You understand that sweetheart don't you?" He picked her up like she weighed nothing.

Iremide shook her head "Can't you work from home daddy?" she asked.

"I wish,  I'll be here tomorrow morning to take you and your brother to the water park.  How about that?" Jidenna asked.

Iremide shook her head "Daddy,  I don't want you to go today. Please don't go" Iremide said her voice dropping in a plea.

"I can't sweetheart, maybe next time" Jidenna smiled easily. His heart was breaking for his little girl but Dara had made it clear that he wasn't welcome to live with them.

"That's what you said yesterday" Iremide wiggled out of his hold.  "If you won't stay with us today then I don't want to go to the water park tomorrow, Lota won't go too" Iremide frowned.

"Sweetheart....." Jidenna sighed tiredly. "Go tell your mum I'm staying over" He finally accepted knowing that Dara would blow her top.

"Mummy is not home,  mummy is out with Uncle Jay" Lota replied bumping two of his toy cars together.

"Uncle who?" Jidenna stood up and turned to his sister who had been sitting quietly.

"Iremide,  Lota....you two should go play upstairs" Olanna said.

"No joor!" Iremide hissed.

"If I have to repeat myself again, no cartoons for you two tonight" Olanna threatened.

"Ooooh, auntie Lana" Iremide hissed again and stomped away angrily. Lota followed a little less grumpy.

"How come you never mentioned this uncle?" Jidenna asked his little sister.

"Um....big brother no offense. I'm not a spy, or an undercover agent who reports back to you" Olanna said.

"Right, so who is he?" Jidenna asked.

Olanna shifted uncomfortably not knowing if it was right to tell Jidenna what Dara had told her in confidence.

"He's...." Olanna began but was interrupted by the sound of the bell. Olanna started to stand but Jidenna held up his hand.

"Let me get the door" Jidenna said. He got up and walked out of the living room and into the lounge.

"Jidenna" Dara paused as he opened the door. She closed up, showing no emotions.

Jidenna's eyes settled on the man at the door holding his wife's bag.  He'd never been jealous around Dara,  she had no interest in any other man but him. 

Now they were having issues and she was with this other man, Jidenna felt a tinge of jealousy.

Maybe not a tinge,  it was a lot more than that.

"Jacob, this is my....the father of my kids. Jidenna, Jacob" Dara introduced.

"Hello" Jacob said with a small smirk on his lips. The jealousy emanating from Jidenna was really hard to ignore.

Jidenna nodded in his direction before turning back to his wife. 

"I take it that you're leaving already" Dara said coldly.

"Actually" Jidenna took her bag away from Jacob. "I'm not....till tomorrow" Jidenna said.

He turned to Jacob. "Thanks for escorting my wife home . Goodbye" Jidenna said steely before taking Dara's hand.

Dara turned to him angrily "What the hell do you think you're doing?" she yelled once Jacob left.

"Who the hell is that man,  why is he here?  In my house!" Jidenna yelled back.

"He's my attorney" Dara said smugly and strolled into the living room.

Jidenna followed "What do you need an attorney for?" he asked.

"What do you think?" Dara threw at him angrily now.

"You tell me Dara,  how else do you want me to tell you I'm sorry. I'm freaking Sorry, whatever I did to you.... It was in the past,  I've changed now" Jidenna said.

"I've changed too,  I'm sorry I can't be the same love sick girl that would accept your shïtty  apology and forgive you in a snap" Dara hissed.

Olanna stared at the both of them wide-eyed. She cleared her throat attracting their attention.

"End of discussion Jidenna. I am done talking to you.  You should leave" Dara said stiffly.

"I'm not leaving Dara and we're not done talking" Jidenna said.

"I'm done talking to you,  and if you won't leave, I'll leave and I'll leave with my kids" Dara threatened.

"Our kids" Jidenna gritted out.

"Get out!" Dara said in a raised voice. She glared hard at him.

"Jidenna I said...." She started again but he shook his head.

"I'm leaving, I'm coming back tomorrow though Dara. I just hope you know you're making the wrong choices" Jidenna said before walking away.

Olanna sighed "How long are you going to drag this on,  he's sorry" She said.

Dara hissed "I don't want to hear this right now" Dara said leaving the sitting room.

"Where are you going?" Nene asked standing at the door way as she watched Richard dress up.

"I have a thing with Hauwa, I'll be back early" Richard replied casually.

Nene let out a sigh and walked up to him.  "What's this thing you have with Hauwa?" She asked him looking him directly in the eye.

"Hauwa and I are working on a project together. It's purely business, if it clicks we won't have to live here anymore and I wouldn't have to go job hunting. Understand that I'm doing this for you and the kids" Richard replied cupping her face.

"If you say so" Nene said with resignation. With Malik back in her life and blackmailing her, she had other things to worry about.

She hadn't told Richard about it, she couldn't tell him. She also wasn't sure she could do what Malik was asking.

"I want to take you out for lunch today, what do you think?" Richard asked with his hand circling her waist.

"Um....Maybe another time.  I'm going to Cassie's today" she lied and looked away nervously.

"Okay,  I guess I'll take the boys for a treat then" Richard said and pulled away.

"Sounds good" Nene faked a smile and moved away.

"Everything is going as planned I trust, madam? " Malik asked smirking.

"There is no need to celebrate here,  you need to fulfill your own end of the deal. If you don't, Nothing I do will work" Hauwa said irritated.

"What do you mean, don't tell me Richard hasn't fallen for your sweet charms?" Malik asked sipping his glass of wine.

"He hasn't and he won't. Richard loves his wife and his children. He won't leave Nene for me no matter what's on the table" Hauwa hissed.

"Maybe you need to up your game" Malik sneered. "He's a broke man, he has nothing to his name. If you can't get him through amorous means then perhaps you should try manipulating him with money" Malik winked.

"You think Richard can be bought with money?  You don't know him well enough then" Hauwa said.

"Anyone can be bought with money,  you for instance.  You're willing to betray your good friend for change" Malik said cockily.

"Change?! With due respect Malik, if you weren't threatening to destroy the legacy my grandmother built with all she worked for during her lifetime I wouldn't have helped you.  Not for all the money in the bank,  Richard is a good man" Hauwa hissed.

"Yes he is,  but family first right. You wouldn't want me to close down your grandmother's school for those mentally disabled scumbags" Malik said.

Hauwa growled at him. "It's not just a school, it's the only hope for those kids and you want to destroy everything for a married woman. Why is Nene such a prize to you?" Hauwa asked irritated.

"Kainene was the first woman I fell in love with. I would have married her if your stupid Richard hadn't succeeded in raping her and getting her pregnant. He was going to abandon her,  her parents had to pay him to marry her" Malik hissed.

Hauwa gasped "That's a lie,  Richard is nothing like that" Hauwa defended hotly.

"Her parents confided in me.  Looks like your Richard isn't so saintly as you thought. Make Richard lose interest in Nene, I don't care how you do it.  If you don't I'm going to destroy your stupid school for those miscreants" Malik hissed.

"Understood" Hauwa said sadly.  She couldn't believe she was working with the devil, but she'd promised her grandma that her legacy wouldn't go to the wind.

Malik was trying to destroy that legacy and she couldn't let him.

"Doctor Abisuga called me,  he said he'd like to have breakfast with us tomorrow" Tobi said the minute he got into the house.

"Why?" Cassie asked rubbing her toes. She frowned a little bit irritated. The doctor had been calling all day, what the hell did he want?

"I don't know Cassie,  how are you doing?" he said sitting beside her.

"How do you think I am, I'm not fine okay?    We might lose Tiwa and there is nothing we can do about it" Cassie frowned.

"I'm doing everything I can Cassandra, we won't lose our daughter" Tobi took her hand but she pulled away.

"It's not enough Tobi,  whatever you're doing is not enough!" Cassie said angrily.

Dele's ultimatum was still ringing in her head.  They had to act quickly or they would lose Tiwa to Dele forever.

"What brand of coffee is this Dear?  it's quite better than the one I drink" Doctor Abisuga asked smiling a little.

Cassie faked a smile before replying him. "It's Safari, it's a new brand" Cassie replied

"Not for long, it'll be leading the market pretty soon. The taste is excellent"  Doctor Abisuga replied.

"Perhaps Cassie can get you a pack before you leave?" Tobi asked cocking his head to  the side in askance.

"No,  I'm a tea person. I only appreciate good coffee like this but that doesn't change my loyalty to Lipton" He chuckled sipping his coffee again.

Cassie mentally rolled her eyes,  was there a particular reason for this gathering?

"How's Tiwa?" He asked looking serious now.

"She's fine,  she's actually with her grandmother now" Tobi replied poking his poached eggs with his fork.

"And the issue with Dele?" He asked sounding cautious. This time he was looking directly at Cassie.

"We're handling it" Cassie sent him a phony smile.

"If I could have faked the results for you,  I would have. But I can never betray my profession, I wish I could have helped" Doctor Abisuga said sincerely.

Tobi smiled bitterly at the statement. "I would never have asked you to fake the results doctor. You did the right thing" Tobi said.

Did he?  Cassie wondered irritated. That's not the way she saw it,  in her own mind she believed that if indeed the doctor was loyal to Tobi and his father, he would have helped at a time like this.

"I want you to know that I'm going to try to help in my own way.  If you ever need my help....." Doctor Abisuga said.

"Just how are you going to help us,  we're stuck in a custody battle and you're a doctor. So please tell us,  how do you plan to help?" Cassie asked rather coldly. She was impatient now,  could they end this silly breakfast and move on.

"Cassandra!" Tobi looked at Cassie sternly. He understood that she was super moody these days with the pregnancy hormones and the fear of losing Tiwa but that was no excuse to talk to the doctor the way she did.

Doctor Abisuga smiled. "Tobi if I weren't your father's friend I wouldn't share this with you" he said.

Tobi frowned now "What is that?" he asked curiously.

"It's your brother Dele,  there is something you should know" the doctor said catching both Cassie and Tobi's attention.

Cassie dialed Nene's number right after Dara's.

"Cassie" Nene answered. "Cassie you should call another time, I'm really not in the mood now" Nene said sourly.

"No please Nene,  I really need you and Dara now.  I feel like I'm going crazy, I need to talk to you please. Let's meet at our spot please" Cassie begged.

Nene sighed "Okay, I'll be there in a few minutes" Nene said sounding exhausted.

Cassie sighed and dropped her phone.  She was tired of keeping it to herself, she needed to talk to her friends.

"Mummy are you okay?" Tiwa asked spooning ice cream into her mouth. "I'm fine sweetheart, I'm going to leave you with grannie today. I'm going out to see aunt Dara and aunt Nene" Cassie said picking up her purse. 

Her phone vibrated and she checked the caller.  It was doctor Abisuga, Cassie frowned wondering why he was calling her .

"Can't I come with you mummy?"  Tiwa asked pouting.

"No sweetheart, I'll be back really soon" Cassie said and declined the doctor's call. She didn't want to talk to anyone.



Dara had circles beneath her eyes and Nene's complexion looked really pale.  Cassie sat opposite the girls.

"What's wrong with you?" Dara asked dryly.

"What's wrong with you Dara and you Nene? You don't look well,  the both of you" Cassie said.

"Well you've been so focused on your perfect family that you haven't bothered to check on your friend and Nene here is catching up on the luxurious life once again." Dara said coldly.

Nene scoffed "Luxurious life?" Nene asked looking upset. 

"Well what do you call your relationship with Malik?" Dara asked.

"Don't start Dara,  I'm not the reason your husband is so shitty. You need to treat his fück up, don't come here and be serving us bullshit" Nene said angrily.

"When I need your advice, I'll ask for it" Dara hissed.

Cassie rolled her eyes "I don't want us to fight today. I need to talk to the both of you" Cassie said and cleared her throat.

"I've been hiding things from both of you, dark secrets. I was afraid you two would judge me" Cassie sighed looking nervous.

Dara sat up straighter and looked at Cassie with rapt attention. "I had an affair, I cheated on Tobi" Cassie said.

"Woah! Now that's news" Nene said before calling the waiter over.

"I need just water" Dara said. "I need something stronger, you Cass?" Nene asked.

"I've been craving guava recently, guava smoothie then" Cassie said wringing her hand.

Nene turned to the waiter "We'll have one bottle of water,  vodka and cranberry and one guava smoothie" Nene said.

"Yes ma'am" The waiter said and left.

"You were saying?" Dara asked.

"I cheated on Tobi with his step brother" Cassie said and looked at her hand.

"Did Tobi find out?" Nene asked. "I told him,  there's more" Cassie said.

"He wants a divorce?" Dara asked.

"No.....the affair happened a long time ago.  We just recently found out that Dele is Tiwa's father" Cassie said.

"What the actual Fück!"  Nene said.

"He wants full custody and from the looks of it,  he's going to get it. He's going to take my girl and leave the country. I might not see her again" Cassie said.

"Why didn't you tell us Cassie?" Dara asked. 

"I was ashamed, it wasn't supposed to get like that.  He was forcing me and blackmailing me.  The only person who had a clue was Richard, he helped me out...." Cassie broke into a sob.

"My Richard?" Nene asked surprised. Richard hadn't mentioned anything about it.

Cassie nodded.  "How's Tobi taking this?" Nene asked still shocked at the revelation.

"Quite hard,  his entire family has turned against him. I'm so afraid, I'm so scared.  I don't want to lose my daughter" Cassie sobbed. 

"You will not lose your daughter Cassie. If he's a woman beater, surely he's unfit to raise the child. Dele won't get custody of your daughter" Nene said.

"But...." Cassie threw her hands about in a gesturing manner.

"Sssh....you will not lose your child. We'll do everything to make sure you don't" Nene held Cassie's hand soothingly.

"Thank you, I'm sorry I kept it from two of you.  It's just...i..." Cassie began again but Nene cut her off. 

"We totally understand" Nene said. Dara sighed. "Men are such assholes" She hissed.

"What's going on with you and Jidenna these days?" Nene asked.

"I kicked his sorry ass out of the house. He has another child with that Jenifer girl he was dating back in school. And he's known about it all these while.  He's known about it before we even had the twins, he didn't tell me" Dara looked pained.

The waiter brought their order and placed it accordingly on the table before leaving.

"That didn't even hurt as finding out that my own husband married me simply because he couldn't have the woman he wanted and my brother's threat. Jidenna would have abandoned me on our wedding's eve if my brother had not threatened him" Dara said and clenched her fists.

"After everything I did for him.  It sucks, you two were right about him all along. He's a big jerk,  I can't stand him these days.  I wish I could take the kids and leave him for good" Dara hissed.

Cassie remained silent while Nene sipped her drink.

"What's going to happen to Jenifer and her kid?" Nene asked when the silence got unbearable.

"I don't care,  I don't want to see any of them at my house. He can do whatever he wants" Dara shrugged. She was trying to put up an 'I don't give a fück' front but it was obvious she was really hurt about it.

Jidenna was her first and only after all, it was hard to believe that her Prince Charming wasn't so charming after all.

"How about you Nene,  still contemplating between Malik and Richie?" Dara asked looking bored. 

"It's a lot more complicated than that. Richard and I are both out of jobs, I resigned and told Malik to fück off.  We lost our house you know, well now..... We're living with my mother in law" Nene rolled her eyes.

Dara burst out laughing. "Can you imagine how comical our life has become?" Dara asked.

"Perfect, Cassie cheated on her husband and has a daughter for her brother in law. My idiotic husband whom I thought was the best I could ask for has a mistress and a bastard. Wealthy Nene is as poor as a church rat" Dara said amused.

"Haha" Nene said rolling her eyes.

"It's so not funny Dara.  Speaking of Jobs Nene, why didn't you ever mention it me? I could look up something for you" Cassie said.

"Thanks a lot Cassie.  I know I can always count on you two.  I love you Cass,  and you too Dara. Even with your terrible sense of humor" Nene said.

Dara smiled easily. "I'm pregnant" she blurted out.

Cassie looked at Nene this time. "I thought you kicked him out of the house" Cassie said.

"I was pregnant before I kicked him out" Dara said rolling her eyes.

"Does he know?" Nene asked.

"No,  and I don't want to tell him. He'll find out when he sees a bump, I can't wait to see the hurt look on his face when he sees that I'm pregnant and I didn't tell him" Dara said.

"Oh Dara, you're so petty" Cassie chuckled.

It was so easy to forget most of their problems when they were with each other.

"Why were you so cold to Hauwa?" Richard asked when Nene settled in bed minutes after a shower.

"What do you mean?" Nene asked nonchalantly.  Richard frowned "You know what I'm talking about Nene. You didn't even come out of the bedroom to say goodbye to my friend. I don't act that way around your friends, Cassie and Dara are family to me" Richard said.

"If you don't have anything to talk about, I'm going to bed. I have a lot of things to do tomorrow"  Nene said coldly and switched off the bed lamp.

"Kainene,  what's the matter with you?" Richard asked slightly irritated.

"What's the matter with you Richard, you bring a woman that is all over you to the house yet you can't stand my friendship with mal...another man" Nene said painfully.

She wasn't stupid, she wasn't blind to see that Hauwa and Richard were more than friends at one point.

"Are you seriously bringing that up Nene? This male friend of yours was hell bent on destroying our home and you know that. Hauwa isn't like that" Richard explained.

"Oh really, she isn't? That's not what I saw" Nene said sarcastically.

"She only wants to help Nene" Richard replied smiling a little. Nene couldn't see the expression on his face but she could hear the amusement in his voice.

"Goodnight Richard" she whispered. "Good night Nens" Richard said and kissed the top of her head.

When she woke up in the morning Richard was gone,  he'd taken the boys to school also.
Only Mrs Imoh was in the house and she was also getting ready to leave the house.

"Good morning mum" Nene said entering her mother in law's bedroom.
"Good morning Nene,  did you sleep well?" Mrs Imoh asked brushing her hair.

"I guess, going somewhere?" Nene asked sitting on the bed.

"Yes.... I have to meet up with a friend. I'll be back in the evening, you all can have dinner without me" She replied.

"Right.... Did Richard leave a message for me.  He didn't even wake me up before he left" Nene said surprised.

They always got the boys ready for school together. "He probably didn't want to disturb you" Mrs Imoh replied.

"When did he leave the house?" Nene asked getting up to leave the room.  "He left over an hour ago Nene, Hauwa was here" Mrs Imoh said picking up her bag.

"I'm happy Hauwa is around, it's been long I saw Richard really happy" Mrs Imoh smiled. She kissed Nene good bye and left   the room.

'It's been long I saw Richard really happy' Nene couldn't stop thinking about that. Did that mean Richard wasn't happy with her?

She was still deep in thought when her phone rang. "Hello" she answered the caller.

"Kainene.... How are you?" Malik asked.

Nene sighed exasperated "Look Malik you need to stop calling me and move on" Nene said sharply.

"Actually sweetheart I have good news for you.  I found a lead on your parent's hideout" Malik said.

"Okay,  say hi to them when you meet them. Now stop disturbing me Malik" Nene hissed.

"I've invited them to the country" Malik said.

Nene laughed harshly "My parents will never come,  they know what awaits them when they come back" Nene said.

"Oh Nene, you're so clueless. You have no idea what I'm capable of.  I've managed to convince them to return honey,  I made a promise to them. I'll appeal on their behalf and with my connections I can get them a get out of jail free card and pay all their outrageous debts.  I'll also get them settled back into their old luxurious life" Malik said.

Nene listened with interest, why would Malik do all that for her. Nothing goes for nothing, she wondered what he wanted this time.

"All these I've discussed with your parents excluding one tiny detail" Nene heard the excitement in his voice now.

"What detail?" Nene asked.

"If you don't divorce Richard and marry me within two months Nene. Your parents will return to Nigeria and straight to jail" Malik said said coldly.

"What?" Nene asked shocked.

"You heard me darling. Now the question is do you really want to send your parents to jail?" Malik asked amused.

"Malik.... " Nene was left speechless.

"My love don't answer that now,  let's talk over dinner. Come over to my house, and oh.... Richard must not know of our arrangements" Malik said.

"Malik.... What...why are you doing this?" Nene asked breathlessly.

"I always get what I want Kainene. Dinner at seven sharp, don't be late. You know I hate waiting" Malik said.

With that he ended the call,  Nene stood still with the phone stuck to her ear.

Her parents and Richard, both were family but who would she pick?

Nene's breath hitched when she saw Hauwa,  Richard had gone to get her from the airport just yesterday and today she'd come to see his kids. 

An old friend Richard had said but Nene wasn't prepared for the damsel she was looking at now.

"Hi" she smiled prettily at Nene and extended her hand.

Another Idara?  Nene wondered as she shook Hauwa's hand.

"You must be Kainene,  Richard almost never shuts up about you" she grinned.

Richard rolled his eyes at Hauwa's cliche statement. "Where's your mum and how about your boys?" Hauwa turned to Richard.

"Won't you at least sit down madam,  let me go get you a drink and a snack.  Nene please go get the boys from the neighbors" Richard said.

"Alright" Nene said coldly and walked out of the living room.

"What's going on with you Richard? beneath the smiles, I know you're not feeling well" Hauwa asked turning to Richard. She looked genuinely concerned.

Richard shook his head "Hauwa not now,  let's talk about this later. So what can I get you?" He asked.

"You know...she doesn't seem like your type Richie.  Whatever happened to Idara?" Hauwa teased.

"Madam, what can I get you?" Richard maintained. "Wine,  alcohol. I'm in the mood for something" Hauwa said winking.

"No alcohol I'm afraid. We do have orange juice, coke and apple cider" Richard offered. "I bought some red velvet cupcakes for you earlier, hope you're not one those girls that eat only Salad these days?" Richard cocked an eyebrow at her.

"Apple cider is fine" Hauwa said and looked towards the door as Nene walked in with the boys.

"Ahh....the boys.  Nicholas the cute cheery one and Alexis the brooder." Hauwa said moving to the boys.

Nene turned to the boys "Alexis, nick this is miss Hauwa your father's friend" Nene said.

"So dad can have friends but you can't?" Alexis asked sarcastically before walking out of the living room.

"Alexis get back here!" Richard shouted.

"Richard.....let him be.  I'll go talk to him" Nene said tiredly and walked out of the living room.

Hauwa turned to Nick.  "How are you sweetheart?"

"Fine" Nick answered shyly before moving away to the bedroom.

Hauwa sighed and looked back at Richard. "I like the older one, feisty.  Although the younger is cute and exactly like you" Hauwa observed.

"I'm sorry about Alexis,  he's not usually like that" Richard said tiredly.

He didn't know what to make of Alexis's behavior nowadays. He was extremely rude and disrespectful, when he wasn't being rude he switched to a really cold person that snubbed anyone who spoke to him.

"It's okay. How about that apple cider Richard? Then we can talk business" Hauwa said sweetly.

"And here I thought you came back to Nigeria to see me because you missed me.   Serious Hauwa is back from vacation  I guess" Richard smiled.

Hauwa smiled before hugging him "You know I missed you Richie" Richard wrapped his arms around her and Nene chose to walk back into the living room that moment.

"I know my brother has offended you but you have to give him a chance. You have to  forgive him Aunt Dara" Olanna said.

Dara hardened her heart "Olanna you don't understand, I won't expect you to.  So please don't try to get involved with whatever that's going on between your brother and I" Dara said.

Her attention returned to the pumpkin leaves in her hand.

"He never cheated on you,  Jenifer was a mistake Dara.  It's you he loves" Olanna said.

Dara chuckled harshly before turning to Olanna.  "Jenifer was never a mistake,  your brother loved Jenifer.  He loved her so much that he slept with the night before our wedding, the night before our wedding! Did you know that he was actually planning to ditch me the night our wedding, to run off with Jenifer? Did you know that your brother would never have married me if my brother didn't threaten him? He would have left me, after everything I... everything I did for him" Dara said painfully.

Olanna sighed unable to say anything in defense of her brother. 

"Do you know how that feels? Knowing that your brother never actually wanted to marry me?" Dara asked rhetorically.

"My brother made foolish decisions in the past but he's changed now.  He's miserable,  you don't look well either.  I know you love my brother despite his faults, forgive him" Olanna begged.

"The truth is I don't know what I feel for your brother anymore. He's hurt me,  his lies,  his secrets,  I'm tired. There is only so much a woman can take, I need this break. I need to be without him,  I need a break Olanna" Dara said tiredly.

"The kids need their father, they've noticed his absence. Won't you at least consider their feelings and let him back into the house?" Olanna asked.

"I didn't stop him from coming to see his children. He can come to see his kids,  I'll not be in the way. I just don't want to see him" Dara dropped the knife.

"He's afraid you're going to divorce him Dara, he's afraid he's going to lose the kids" Olanna said.

Serves him right, Dara sneered inwardly.

Dara rolled her eyes,  two weeks. It was just two weeks and she intended to leaving him hanging for long.

Six months maybe, she couldn't decide yet but she wanted him to suffer.

Cassie placed her hand above her head and the watched the baby. "You can hear the heartbeat now but and you can tell the sex already" Doctor Caron smiled.

Cassie nodded absently, all she could think about was the fact that any moment from now Dele could succeed in getting her daughter.

"Well....?" Doctor Caron asked.

"I'd rather not know the sex now" Cassie said, not when Tobi was absent.

"Cassandra, you need to take care. Another spotting in a month. I don't want you to lose your dad. I suggest no more strenuous activity and bed rest for at least two weeks. You have to be strong for the baby" Doctor Caron said sternly.

"Yes daughter, we're just going through some tough times at home" Cassie said lamely.

"Tobi isn't here today" Doctor Caron noted. 

"He has a lot of things on his plate, I didn't want to bother him.  I came straight to the hospital when I noticed the spotting"  Cassie explained.

"You should tell him these things. I'm going to prescribe some more vitamins" Doctor Caron said.

"Thanks daughter, I just wanted to know if the baby was fine" Cassie said.

"The baby is in good health, and I expect it to stay that way" Doctor Caron smiled before leaving.

Cassie sat up straight before getting out of the bed.

If talking to Dele was her only solution then that's what she'do.

Cassie took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell.

As much as she hated Dele, she had to do it. She would do it because of her daughter.

Dele opened the door and looked at Cassie surprised.

"What do you want?" he asked smirking.

Cassie sighed "I'm here to see you" Cassie said trying not to show anxiety.

"Well...well...well... I'm surprised. The sheep  has finally wandered into the lair of the big bad wolf. Interesting, does your husband know you're here to see me or will this be another one of our secrets?" Dele asked cockily.

"I'm here because of our daughter" Cassie hissed.

"Now you admit she's ours" Dele mocked his eyes taking in her features and the curves of her body.

"Dele, why are you doing this? Tiwa will never love you like a father. She will hate you if you take her away from me, Tobi and I" Cassie said.

"Then come with me,  if you love our daughter.....Tobi is an imposter, he's not her father" Dele snarled.

"She's all he's ever know. If you love her, then let her go" Cassie said

"You're pregnant Cassie,  you will have other children with Tobi.  Stop being selfish" Dele said.

"Dele please" Cassie pleaded desperately.

"I've given you a choice. Come with me and be with our daughter or stay and remain with your husband. Let me know your response before the end of the week" Dele said.

Cassie eyed him  and looked away.  "Very well then" Cassie said and walked away.

"Cassie..." he started. She stopped.

"If you don't come with us,  I'll tell Tiwa that you didn't love her enough. That's why you sent her away" Dele said before walking back into his house.

Cassie sighed before walking away. Her heart was breaking for her daughter.

She needed her friends.

"I think you two need a break,  seriously. You both work too hard" Mrs Imoh said smiling at Richard.

"We're not working at the moment"  Nene smiled forking a piece of vegetable into her mouth.

"Exactly, now you're both out of work. You two should relax,  go on a vacation or perhaps a weekend getaway" Mrs Imoh suggested.

"We don't have the resources for that now, and besides we have to look after the kids?" Nene said.

She turned to look at Alexis who had refused to speak to her since they moved out of Malik's fancy house.

As a matter of fact he'd refused to talk to anyone else since he got back. His brother, his father, and his grandmother.

"I can look after the boys,  it's not that difficult. You and Richard should do  something for yourselves" Mrs Imoh encouraged.

"Perhaps" Nene said. She turned to her boys,  "Boys,  let's go to bed now" she said looking at Nick now.

"I want to wait up for dad" Nick pouted.  "Dad won't be back for a while honey, let's go to bed. Alexis will a bath interest you?" she asked.

She knew he was unhappy, the house had made him really happy. And she understood they anyone would be unhappy to have their happiness taken away from them.

He couldn't understand that taking Malik's offer could have ruined the family.

"Alexis" she called softly. Alexis ignored her and got up. He picked up his plate and left the room.

"He'll come around Nene, he's just a boy.  Don't expect him to understand" Mrs Imoh said staring at the spot Alexis had been sitting.

"Your mom suggested that we go on a weekend getaway" Nene traced Richard's jaw with her fingers.

"A vacation?" Richard looked amused for a second before noting Nene's seriousness.

"Sweetheart if I had the money, I'd take you and the boys anywhere" he  said and kissed her forehead.

"I have some money saved up Richard, let me" Nene said and kissed him lightly on the lips.

"Malik's money" Richard said. "I worked for it remember" Nene reminded him.

"And Malik is out of the picture now" Nene frowned. "Is he?" Richard wondered why Malik gave up so easily.

Nene remembered her last conversation with Malik. He'd called her after she'd emailed him her resignation letter.

'Are you sure you know what you're doing?' He'd asked.

'What do you mean!' she asked with feigned confusion.

'I'm only trying to help Nene, Richard won't make you happy. Please, let me help' Malik said. He sounded so needy, Nene hated how he sounded.

'Richard makes me happy okay, Malik please you need to move on' she said and ended the call.

He hadn't called her or tried any form of contact since then. Why then did she feel like he hadn't given up but was planning something else to get her.

Richard kissed her deeply. "You're right, he's out of the picture" he said.

Any other doubts he had, he kept it to himself.

Dara turned to Jidenna "I want you to leave Jidenna" she said coldly.

"What?" Jidenna looked at her confused.

"Do you know how it hurts me to look at you, to look at the man I've loved all my life and see a liar, a betrayer. Our marriage was built on a lie!" Dara yelled at him.

"The only reason I'm not leaving you right now is because of our children. I won't leave but I don't want to see you either" Dara said clutching her stomach.

Her chest ached as she sat on the chair beside the bed. "You will leave and stay away until I can finally look in your face without seeing a liar" Dara said steely.

"And what about the children?" Jidenna asked.

"I'll let them know you travelled, please leave. Tomorrow morning would be best, whilst the children are at school" Dara said coldly.

"Dara" Jidenna began but Dara didn't want to hear a thing.

"Just stop, you've hurt me enough already Jidenna. What more do you want from me, my blood? I've given you my entire life but you've given me very little in return" Dara said.

"That's not true Dara, it's true I didn't love you when I married you but I cared for you. I respected you Dara. Over the years you've made me come to love and trust you" Jidenna said.

Dara scoffed 'Trust, you accused me of hurting your mother, your sister. Don't tell me your trust for me developed when I got pregnant and had children for you. How about the way you treat me, look how you talked to me when I asked you about Zara. And even after everything Jidenna, you were still seeing Jenifer and you couldn't tell me about your love child. Is that love, trust?" Dara asked looking at him with contempt.

"I wanted to Tell you Dara!" Jidenna shouted.

"You didn't tell me, you should start packing" Dara said coldly.

Jidenna nodded and turned away. Right now it would take more than an apology to get back in Dara's good graces.

Nene looked at Malik closely "I do,  but the boys are satisfied with what we have" Nene said.

Malik smiled "That's not what Alexis said" He muttered. 

"Alexis,  he's a child. This life is luxurious but I left it all behind.  I should be with my husband, I'm sorry. I've been leading you on" Nene said.

"Nene stop,  please. Don't ruin our dinner please. We could discuss this tomorrow" Malik dismissed her thoughts.

"I should be with Richard, he's been there for me when I had no one. And now, I've deserted him. He doesn't deserve this at all" Nene said looking at her wedding band.

"Nene..." Malik started again but she held up her hand.

"I don't expect you to understand, Nothing will ever happen between us Malik. I love Richard and I swore to be with him in good times and in bad times" Nene said.

Malik sighed and held his breath. No matter what he did, there just was no chance with Nene was there?

"I'll send you the house keys and you'll receive my resignation letter soon. I can't see you again. Please, respect my wishes" Nene said and got up immediately.

"Nene please, you can't be serious. I'm only trying to help you kainene. Richard won't make you happy" Malik got up too.

"Richard makes me happy Malik. I know you're trying to help me but I can't give you what you want. I hope you find happiness" Nene said and walked away.

Malik grunted angrily and pushed the dishes off the table. Nene was his and not that scum's.

If she wouldn't be with him willingly then he'd do it by force. It's time for plan B.

"I'm sorry" she said solemnly. Richard sighed before cupping her face.

"Woman there's nothing you could do that I wouldn't forgive you for" Richard smiled and kissed her.

"I'm an idiot sometimes, I'll return the house and I'll quit my job. I'll stay away from Malik" Nene wrapped her arms around Richard.

"It's fine, we'll be fine. I don't know how but I know we'll be fine now" Richard smiled. His Nene was back.

Tobi was the one who had answered the door the next morning when His mother visited.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Tobi asked furiously.

"There's something I must talk to you about, something urgent" Mrs Ademola rushed.

"I don't want to listen to a word you have to say.  Get out now!" Tobi said.

Cassie heard Tobi's loud voice and went over to him. "Tobi what's wrong?" Cassie asked coming to the door.

She locked eyes with her mother in-law and turned to Tobi.  "What's the matter?" she asked him.

"Mom was just leaving" Tobi eyed his mother.

"If you could just give me a few minutes, please" Mrs Ademola looked at Cassie this time.

"Tobi, sweetheart let's hear her out.  What's the worst that could happen?" Cassie rubbed his shoulders with her hand.

"Come in" Tobi eyed his mother before let her in. 

She sighed and turned to Cassie. "It's about Dele" She said. "Dele and Tiwa" She looked at Tobi now.

"What about Dele,  has he decided to give up?" Cassie asked.

"No,  I'm afraid your brother has more connections than we thought. Cassandra, Tobi,  you can't, you can't go ahead with the court case" Mrs Ademola said.

Tobi scoffed "I knew I shouldn't have let you in" Tobi said.

"Wait,  what do you mean?" Cassie asked.

"His aunt is presiding over the case,  she hates us Tobi.  Dele will win,  he will take Tiwa away. You won't ever see her again" Mrs Ademola said.

"What? How is that even possible?" Cassie asked breathlessly.

"Don't listen to her Cassandra, she's Playing with our heads" Tobi muttered. He couldn't trust his mother, not after what he'd seen.

"I'm not, listen to me. Dele said this himself" Mrs Ademola said.

"Why should I believe you?!" Tobi shouted looking angrier than ever.

"Tiwa is my grand daughter, do you really believe I'd want her to grow up with a terrible person like Dele?" Mrs Ademola asked.

"You've been opposing us since day one,  you've been on Dele's side" Cassie frowned.

"He's blackmailing me" Mrs Ademola confessed.

Tobi scoffed again. "We both know what he has against you" Tobi sneered remembering that his mother was Dele's mistress.

"It's more than that Tobi. What you saw the other day was a lie, I swear. Dele wanted you to see that, he's crazy Tobi.  When this is over,  I'll explain everything to you. I can only hope you don't hate me,  but for now please do as I tell you" Mrs Ademola begged.

She couldn't imagine how Tiwa would end up if she was raised by Dele.

"What do you suggest we do then?" Cassie asked.

"Talk to him Cassie,  Dele has a soft spot for you in his heart. Exploit it,  it's your best bet now" Mrs Ademola said.

"You're suggesting I go see Dele,  no way" Cassie said.

Tobi placed his hand on her shoulder. "I fear my mother is right. Think about it Cassie, it might be our only chance" Tobi said.

Cassie sighed and turned away.  He was asking her to confront one of her demons.

"What do you want Jay? I thought we agreed that you would give me space" Jenifer said in an exasperated tone.

"I have good news for you" Jidenna looked at her excited. He'd invested the money he got from Dara and he was already cashing out profits.

The best thing to do now was to marry Jenifer, buy her a house and start up a family.

Jidenna sighed and brought out the jewelry box.  "Jenifer I love you,  things are finally going on well for me and I can't think of anyone but you whom I want to spend my future with.  I will love you, I will cherish you,  respect you" Jidenna exhaled and opened the jewelry box. The box contained an engagement ring made of a simple platinum band, and infinity sign on it and a little sapphire jewel on it. 

Jenifer scoffed "Marriage, I don't want to get married Jay. Don't you understand? Please don't bother me,  get some good, homely girl,  not me okay?" Jenifer hissed.

"Doesn't  it matter that  I love you?!" Jidenna asked angrily.

"No it doesn't, and as a matter of fact I don't feel so in love with you anymore.  Please, leave my home" Jenifer said angrily.

Jidenna shook his head "She came to me" Jidenna said.

"When?" Dara asked. She hardened her expression again.

"Our wedding's eve,  she came to the hotel. And I couldn't resist her,  we made love" Jidenna said.

"And the next day you married me,  why didn't you go after her then?" Dara asked.

Jidenna remembered how Tomiwa had walked in on them. Tomiwa had single-handedly kicked Jenifer out before threatening Jidenna.

He'd promised Jidenna death if he dared to jilt his little sister.

"So you wouldn't have married me if Tomiwa hadn't threatened you" Dara shook her head bitterly.

" When did you find out she was pregnant?"  Dara asked.

Jidenna wasn't shocked at the question. "After our issue with mama and Ada that time,  I contacted her and found out she had a son for me" He replied.

"And you didn't bother to tell me?" Dara asked.

"I didn't know how to,  I'm a coward Dara.  I feared you would leave" Jidenna looked at Dara who appeared so still and cold.

"You have hurt me" she repeated. "And you know Jidenna that I have always been faithful with you,  tolerant, even when you treated me like shît.  Patient, forgiving, you know that I've always loved you.  But now I know you will never feel the same way,  this isn't love Jay" Dara said breaking into fresh tears.

This was the limit Dara thought weakly.  The limit.

"And that friend of yours Richard, I need to speak to him. We might need him to exaggerate a bit" Ese said. 

"I don't feel comfortable about this,  I don't want to tell everyone that Dele abused me,  sure he forced me and hit me but It's really embarrassing Tobi don't you understand?" Cassie asked.

"Do you want us to lose our daughter?" Tobi asked.

Cassie shook her head before looking back at Ese. "Then you must do everything, I mean everything once you get to court" Ese said.

"Call Richard, I know you want to keep this secret but call Richard. Tell him,  tell your friends Cassie.  You need them" Tobi took her hands.

Cassie shook her head "I can't....please isn't there anything else we can do? Ese, there must be some other way please" Cassie shut her eyes.

"Sweetheart I know how you feel right now,  but we need to have options. This Dele seems like a dangerous fella, do you really want your little girl to grow up with him?" Ese asked

"What more do you want Dele, you've made Tobi believe that we're having an affair, you've made me publicly turn against my son.  You've made everyone think that Tiwa isn't Tobi's" Mrs Ademola sobbed.

"It's not my fault that you murdered your husband and I have everything on tape.  You snitch and you will regret it" Dele said chuckling.

Then he frowned and turned to Mrs Ademola remembering something she'd said.  "Did you pay the doctor to fake the results?" Dele frowned.

Mrs Ademola shook her head " He wouldn't have done it , he would never betray my late husband or Tobi" She said.

"That means Tiwa is really my daughter, my flesh and blood" he chuckled. "See,  I was always better than Tobi, Tiwa is my daughter. If you didn't bribe the doctor, then Tiwa is my daughter" Dele chuckled.

"You don't deserve her" Mrs Ademola spat.

"Coming from a bitch like you, I don't believe it.  Chief died because of you,  because you were sleeping with his sister...... Who would have thought that Almighty Mrs Ademola was into pussîes and not dïcks.  You know I do remember father jokingly mentioning that you couldn't stand him in the bedroom. Now I understand what he meant" Dele grinned.

"You and Folakemi were lovers,  and that day I came to see father you weren't aware. I went to fetch dad a glass of rum and when I got back it was to see you and Dad arguing. I taped it at that time because I thought that it'd would be fun to watch you bitching later. I didn't expect to see you hit father, he died.  And You , Folakemi and Afeni managed to cover it up and lie that it was hypertension but I know the truth" Dele smiled.

Who would have thought that the video would have come in handy on the long run.  if he had exposed the video then, the clan would have covered it up.  But now he would use it to his advantage, he already got Afeni and his freaking step mother beneath his heel.

"You won't succeed Dele, you will fail!" Mrs Ademola sobbed. 

"I've already won, do you know who is presiding over the case?" Dele smiled cunningly.

"Who?" Mrs Ademola's eyes widened.

"My beloved aunt,  my mum's elder sister. I'm sure you know who she will favor, the minute I get full custody of my little girl, I'll take her far away where nobody will ever see her again" Dele promised.

Mrs Ademola gasped, theirs was a lost case. She had to warn her son,  the  court case would only worsen their problem.

"Nicholas has insisted that he would rather live with your mother, I don't think it would be wise to separate the boys. How about you come stay with us Richard, that way Nick wouldn't be so insecure" Nene suggested.

"There wouldn't be any need to separate the boys if You had just let both of them remain with my mother. I'm not coming to live in that house Nene, and I won't force Nick either.  There is nothing I can do" Richard took another of his T-shirt out of the drawer and shoved it into his bag.

"Richard what are you doing, everything I do, I do it for you. For us,  for our children. You're just going to leave me, why are you doing this to me,  Why are you being ungrateful?" Nene asked genuinely confused. She didn't understand why Richard let his ego get in the way every time.

"Nene would you come live with me, if I went to Idara for help at this time.  If she gave me a place to stay?" Richard asked.

"Don't you dare compare that bïtch with Malik" Nene looked upset.

"You're forgetting they have one thing in common, they are both exes looking for how to get back into our lives.  Idara never succeeded, but Malik, Malik is getting somewhere" Richard scoffed.

"He's my boss,  he respects the fact that I'm a married woman with kids. He's not like Idara" Nene protested lamely.

"is that what you tell yourself Nene,  good for you then.  Keep on being blind and stupid.  Apparently you'd believe anything because of wealth,  material things. You haven't changed Nene, I'm highly disappointed in you" Richard hissed.

"Richard!" Nene looked surprised at the venom of his words.

"We will not talk about this anymore, take care of Alexis.  I'll look after Nick. The boys will see each other every weekend" Richard picked up his bag.

"I'm so disappointed in you,  I'm ashamed of you Richard. I'm ashamed of calling you my husband, you'd leave me!  A woman you claim to love, your wife, the mother of your children!" Nene spat.

"My wife has refused to have sense,  I've tried talking sense to you but since you've decided to remain stubborn I will no longer waste my breath.  You've chosen your path Nene, walk In it, dwell there.  Don't fücking try to guilt trip me okay?" Richard shouted at her before walking out of the room with his bag.

Nene watched him leave with a heavy heart, what was she to do.

"It's a lie!" Cassie shouted. Dele smiled triumphantly.

"That result is a lie!" Cassie shouted again.

"Doctor Abisuga has been the family doctor for years, Tobi do you really believe he'll manipulate the result? He was your father's personal doctor and your father trusted him" Uncle Babalola said.

"Whether it's manipulation or not, you all are wasting your time. No one is taking my daughter away from me" Cassie said.

"No one is taking your daughter Cassandra, as a matter of fact this case will be settled right here" Uncle Babalola said.

Cassie sighed and waited as Uncle Babalola turned to Afeni. "What should be done?" he asked Afeni.

"Well, I suggest the child should be handed to the father. Tobi your wife will have other children" Afeni shrugged.

Tobi's aunt appeared angry "What nonsense, does Dele know how to look after children? Cassie should have the child, Dele should be allowed visits. End of discussion" Aunt Folakemi said.

Cassie held herself intact to keep herself from exploding. Tobi on the other hand still looked dumb struck.

"I suggest you tell the child the truth first, where is Tiwa? Before we make any decision let's tell her Tobi isn't her father" Mrs Ademola said.

"Tiwa is a child, a little girl. You really want to tell her that the man she's known as her father isn't her father. How do you want to explain that to a little girl?" Cassie screamed at her mother in law.

"Don't talk to me like that girl, if you weren't such a whöre no one would have to tell your daughter she's a bastard" Mrs Ademola glared at Cassie.

"My daughter isn't a bastard, I'm ready to be her father" Dele said. "How can you all be so cruel? And you Dele, what do you know about being a father? If you want to disrupt that little girl's life go ahead and tell her you're her father and not Tobi" Cassie frowned.

"Now you're just being pathetic, you shouldn't even open your mouth to talk among us. You're a disgrace, sleeping with your husband's brother" Afeni said.

"Enough all of you, Uncle Babalola what's your say in this matter?" Tobi said.

"I suggest that Dele should move on, Tobi is your brother. Your child will be well taken care of, close this matter. Find a girl, get married and have other children. Do you want to destroy your brother's happy family?" Babalola asked.

"Well, Uncle Babalola you know I'm a bastard and I don't have to listen to your silly advice. Tobi and Cassie will here from my lawyer, Tiwa is mine and I want her" Dele said.

"You will make this disgraceful matter public and destroy the family's image?" Babalola asked.

"Yes, if you don't want it to be public, I suggest you tell Cassandra to give me my daughter right away" Dele frowned.

"Go to hell Dele, you want to take this to court no problem. We'll take it to court" Tobi said.

"I hope you don't regret this decision brother" Dele smiled smugly before getting up.

"This is nonsense, I'm out of here" Folakemi hissed and walked out immediately.

"Babalola you're going to allow Tobi and his wife to ruin the family's legacy. You want our enemies to laugh at us, to point and say this is the immorality that goes on in our Family? Well done Babalola" Afeni hissed and left but not before throwing a dirty look at Cassandra.

Mrs Ademola shook her head and walked away without a second glance at her son and his wife.

"May God help you two, Tobi be careful. Your brother is a snake, I will try my best to see if there is a way I can help you. For now just look after your daughter" Babalola said before getting up to leave.

Tobi turned to Cassie "You might want to talk to your friend Richard. He saw Dele hitting you didn't he?" Tobi asked.

"What? You want me to...Tobi what is going on in that head of yours?" Cassie asked.

"Just trust me" Tobi said and walked out of the living room.

Cassie sobbed knowing that her world was on the verge of crumbling. The thought that Tiwa might be taken away from her any minute was slowly killing her.

"We have enough time today, I want to hear everything. Every secret you've been keeping from me" Dara said coldly.

Jidenna paled instantly and went over to sit on the other side. "I don't want to talk about this anymore Dara, I've made mistakes I'm sorry" Jidenna said.

"That apology means nothing to me, you don't have a choice in the matter anymore Jidenna. Now you will tell me all I want to hear, when did you break up with Jenifer?" Dara asked.

"My sister loves you, she just kept asking after you can you imagine?" Jidenna took off his shoes.

"I must have left quite an impression, it's my forte anyway" Jenifer smiled as she sat beside him.

Jidenna noticed the expression on her face and paused. "You don't look happy, what's the matter?" He asked.

"No man has ever taken me home, to his family. Why did you do that, take me to see your mother and your sisters?" Jenifer asked.

"I just want them to know you, the only woman in my life. I'm glad they approve" Jidenna grinned.

"Why does their approval matter?" Jenifer asked. "It matter because one day I'll marry you, and they will become your family too. I want them to love you also" Jidenna explained.

"Marriage?" Jenifer asked. "Yes, marriage. Don't you want to get married?" Jidenna asked.

"Jidenna...." Jenifer made a face. "Or it's me you don't want to marry?" Jidenna asked seriously.

"No, I don't want to get married. I love you J but come on this is just fun, we screw around, get bored and move on" Jenifer said.

"What?" Jidenna looked slightly amused. "We're more than that. We're in a relationship Jenifer, a serious relationship" Jidenna frowned.

"You're the one who wanted labels! I just wanted a fùckbuddy. Nothing more J, friends with freaking benefits. You're the one who wanted a freaking relationshit" Jenifer screamed.

"Relationshit, you call it relationshit? We've been dating for how many years now?" Jidenna asked furiously.

"What the hell do you want from me? just leave me alone. I want to sleep, I'm tired. I've had a long day faking smiles, pretending and playing a stupid role. Simply because my so called boyfriend decided it was time to meet his family. How traditional of you, I'm not that kind of girl J!" Jenifer screamed.

"How can you even say that, Jenifer what has gotten into you?" he asked. "The devil, I don't want to get married J, not ever in this life. I love you so much but not to that extent" Jenifer spoke in a tired voice.

Jidenna nodded but he didn't understand, it didn't make any sense. "Where do we go from here Jenifer" Jidenna said more to himself than her.

"I need some space. I'll move out for a while, just give me time to think okay?" Jenifer said.

"Jen, is this how you want to end us?" Jidenna asked.

"I said I need space, I'm not breaking up with you yet. I just need some time alone, I'll go stay with my cousin Zara for a while okay?" Jenifer kissed his lips.

"I'll wait" Jidenna promised.

"Dara please, why does it matter? That was years ago, I've changed. It's you I love now" Jidenna begged shutting his eyes.

"More lies, all I get from you is lies, betrayals and hurt. That's all I get" Dara screamed at him.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I don't want to talk about this anymore, please Dara" Jidenna begged.


"I want to hear all of it, all of it. You will tell me everything. All your secrets and lies" Dara went over to him and yanked his arm.

Jidenna inhaled deeply wondering how they would be when she'd uncovered every secret.

"Why didn't you call me sooner?" Malik asked. "I wanted to but..." Nene stopped. "Richard" Malik said.

"I'm doing this without his consent, but then I have to do it because of my kids.  It'll just be temporary, till I've gotten enough money to get my own house" Nene said.

"It's fine Nene, I have a property in VGC. Perhaps you will like it, come on let's go check it out" Malik said.

"Now?" Nene asked. "Yes, we could go get the boys from school first.  See if they like the house too" Malik smiled.

"Thank you Malik" Nene said. "You know I would do anything for you.  Anything" Malik held a promise in his eyes.

"What do you want from me?" Nene asked him.  "I want you Nene" Malik said and sighed. "I'm too late aren't I?" He asked.

Nene nodded and walked out of the office,  she refused to listen to the voice of reasoning at the back of her mind.

"Woah! Woah!" our new house is so cool. Mummy can I have my own room?!" Alexis eyes were like saucers.

"Don't you want to share a room with your brother?" Nene asked admiring the decor. "No! You know he wets the bed" Alexis  made a face.

"It's amazing how he looks and acts just like you" Malik smiled down at Alexis.  "Everyone says that" Nene smiled.

"Let me show you the pool" Malik took Alexis's hand. "There is a pool,  is their a gym also?" Alexis looked excited.

"Yes,  and a game room.  By the way I've just ordered the latest Xbox and PlayStation for you." Malik led Alexis out of the room.


Nene was still smiling when Nick clasped her hand. "Nick, won't you go check the pool with Alexis and Uncle Mal?" Nene asked.

"He's not my uncle. And no I don't want to check the pool, I don't want to live here. I want to live with grandma" Nick pouted.

"Don't you like the house?" Nene asked surprised. "No, I don't like it" Nick shook his head upset.

"Now don't be a spoilsport, your brother loves the house, I like it too. And I think you should be grateful to uncle... Mr Malik" Nene said.

"I don't like the house. Who's going to look after us when you go to work, grandma can't pick us up from school and bring us here, dad won't be here when we come back from school" Nick pulled away.

"Nicholas...." Nene started softly. "Take me home, I want to go home" Nick said. "But this is going to be your new home" Nene tried again. "I don't like it, I want to live with grandma" Nick said.

"Okay, okay, I'll just tell Alexis that you don't..." Nene began speaking softly to Nick when Alexis cut her off. "Tell me what?" he asked.

"Lex sweetheart, we won't be taking the house. Nick wants you two stay with grandma" Nene said.

"That's so lame, Nick's just being a whiny selfish cry baby as usual. Don't listen to him" Alexis went over to his brother and pushed him.

"Stop...." Nick pushed back. "We're taking the house, if you don't want to stay with us that's fine. Go stay with Grannie, loser" Alexis scoffed.

Nick crossed his arms and refused to change his mind. Nene was conflicted.

"Uncle Babs called, he has just gotten the results. He'll be bringing it here when the others arrive" Tobi informed Cassie.

Cassie clasped her hands "Whatever happens Tobi, promise me that this wouldn't change anything between us. That you will love me and you will love Tiwa like this never happened" Cassie said.

"Why are you talking like you're already sure Tiwa is Dele's?" Tobi looked sour as he said the words.

"I don't know, I wish she's yours, ours" Cassie sobbed. "She's ours" Tobi comforted her.

"I don't know why Dele decided to show up now, why? He had five damn years to come but he decided to come back now. Everything was going so well for us" Cassie said.

"You shouldn't get yourself so upset so much, Everything will be fine. I promise you, and when our baby is born.... Whether male or female, I won't let her know the wolves she has for a family. I won't let him get involve with the family cult, as a matter of fact I'm pulling out of the family cult when this case is closed. I'm selling my shares in the company and going rogue" Tobi said.

"You will do that?" Cassie asked. "Yes, I will. What good is the family if they can't support me in times like this. They should've shunned Dele, backed me up but they've done the opposite. All of them can go to hell" Tobi frowned.

"I love you so much, thank you for doing this for me. I was so worried about this ever since I found out I was pregnant" Cassie sighed before pausing.

"My father was a good man, he wasn't exactly rich but he was satisfied. We were happy, so happy till my father's best friend returned from Ivory Coast. I was seven, I remember my dad and my mum arguing. His friend had asked him to join a friendship cult, said it was only a group about friends helping themselves. My mum warned him but he wouldn't listen, when he joined he discovered it was more than just a group of friends. He didn't tell us he was already eating with the devil" Cassie eyes focused on the sculpture on the shelf.

"Cassie I'm so sorry, I never knew. You never told me, you never spoke about your father" Tobi cupped her face.

Her eyes were filled with tears "I've never told anyone, it was too shameful. Two months after he joined the cult, my father became rich. Extremely rich, we had this room that was filled with money, my mother was suspicious but she loved him too much to leave him" Cassie said.

"Till one day, my dad travelled and I decided to snoop around. I walked into the master room, it looked normal. Everything was normal till I opened the big wardrobe. I saw the heads of my siblings, every child my mother had that died as a result of fever. It turned out that it was never fever, Dad would make them sick, rush them to the hospital and have his doctor friend tell mum they were dead. For seventeen years, my four siblings, their heads were paying my school fees, buying my clothes. I screamed so loud that my mum rushed in, and that was the end of her sanity. Sometimes she would come around other times she would go back into sanity. I received a message the next morning that my father was dead, that was how I lost both parents. One to death and one to grief, the house, the money, I left it all. That was why I couldn't forgive you when I discovered you'd somehow managed to spiritually bind us together, when I found out that you were in a family cult. And I knew I would never let my child be involved in it, no matter what" Cassie had tears on her face.

"I would never have....I would never...." Tobi started but Cassie stopped him. "No, I know you. You're a good person, my father was a good man too. I trust you, you would never hurt me or our children" Cassie said.

Tobi nodded and kissed her forehead right before the bell rang. "They're here" Tobi said.

The couple walked to the door and opened it. Uncle Babalola, Dele, his mother and the clan walked in.

"Let's all sit please" Uncle Babalola cleared his throat. Cassie eyed Dele, after tonight he'd be out of their lives.

"First of all, I swear that I never opened this result before now, nor have I tampered with it. Whatever you hear now, is the unaltered result of the doctor" Uncle Babalola said before unsealing the envelope.

Cassie's heart thumped loudly as she waited for the results. "Well it seems that, Tiwa's father is none other than Dele" Uncle Babalola said.

Dara looked at the honey colored liquor and wondered why Nene always turned to alcohol for comfort.

"Dara are you okay?" Jidenna dropped his bag and went to the mini bar.  "You said you wanted to talk.

"Yes,  I called you five hours ago Jidenna. Look at the time" she said turning back to look at him.

"I was at work D,  what did you want me to do.  I couldn't possibly leave work like that" Jidenna's hand went to his tie.

"Yes,  and when I went to your office this morning your blabber mouth receptionist was quite surprised to see me.  Apparently my husband had taken a leave of absence to take his wife on a second honeymoon.  My husband, I wasn't aware of this or perhaps she was talking about another wife" Dara said sweetly but he could hear the sarcasm in her voice, see the anger in her eyes.

"She's talking rubbish Dara" Jidenna said not meeting her eyes. 
"You're not looking at me,  it means you're lying. I confirmed with one of the security guards.  You've not been to work for a month! Yet every day you leave this house for work. Where have you been going to?" Dara asked.

Jidenna sighed and started to talk when Dara stopped him.  "Why did you break up with Jenifer?" Dara asked. They'd never really talked about it then but now that she knew what he was hiding she wanted to know.

"What?" He looked surprised. He was surprised Dara still remembered her name. They'd never talked about Jenifer, why had the name come up today?

"Jenifer that girl, why did you break up with her?" Dara asked. Her heart was pounding loudly, if he leaned closer he would hear it.

"We both wanted different things" Jidenna said. It was the truth, he wanted marriage, she just wanted fun.  Nothing more,  he'd begged but she refused to get married.

"What do you mean, lie to me again and I swear you will regret it" Dara looked at him square in the eyes.

"Who was that girl?" Jenifer asked the minute Dara walked back into the eyes.

"No one important" Jidenna said turning back to Jenifer.  His hands moved to her thighs.

"What do you say about round 4?" he asked. "I'm as dry as the Sahara. You want to know why?" she asked.

Jidenna sighed and moved into bed with her. "Why was your ex girlfriend here?" Jenifer asked.

"She claimed she forgot her text book, the one you trashed the other day" Jidenna's hand rested below her abdomen.

"She's till hung up on you. I could see it on her face" Jenifer said. "Maybe, but why does it matter? She means nothing to me Jen" Jidenna kissed the corners of her mouth.

"I know that" Jenifer smirked. "Oh Jay you needed to see the look on her face when she saw me" Jenifer laughed.

Jidenna chuckled heartily "Like a wounded child. It fell so good to see it" Jenifer said before straddling him.

"Where were we?" she asked grinning now.

"Will this be temporary Mum?" Alexis asked Nene as they discussed their problems again when the kids got back.

"Yes sweetheart" Nene rubbed his head. "How long?" he asked again. "You worry too much lex" Richard said. Nick only watched them curiously, staying with grandma was fabulous. No chores, breakfast on bed and she sang him songs to bed plus she was always around.

"I don't know, till Dad and I get us another house" Nene said.

"Why don't you just ask uncle Mal for help?" Lex cocked his head to the side.

"It's not that easy Lex, I can't just ask him for a new house" Nene said.

"Yes you can, but you won't. You won't because Dad won't like that. I know Dad doesn't like uncle Mal" Lex frowned.

"Alexis there are some things you won't understand at this age" Richard said.

"Okay, I think I'm going to go to bed now" Lex said and walked sourly over to the bedoom.

Nick wrapped his arms around his father "We will be fine" he said.
"Yes tiger we will be fine" Richard replied.

"About what Lex said" Nene turned to her husband after the boys had slept off.

"I don't want to talk about it" Richard frowned.

"I could ask Malik, at least that way the boys wouldn't be separated from us." Nene said rubbing his palm soothingly.

"I can't believe you're actually considering that" Richard said in disbelief.

"Can't you see Alexis isn't happy with the arrangement?" Nene asked.

"I can see that, but Alexis has to understand that in life we cannot always get everything we want just because we want it" Richard said.

"What sort of stupid talk is that, I want my son's happiness" Nene hissed.

"You're asking me to move in with you into the house provided by your ex boyfriend. Nene are you okay, did you hit your head?" he asked.

"Are you drunk, high on drugs? A responsible wife wouldn't even associate with her ex lover" Richard said.

"And I've never been responsible you know that. I only want the best for my boys, if you cared for our children you will swallow your pride Richard. And don't you dare forget that it was because you were associating with your ex lover that we're in this predicament!" Nene yelled at him.

"Do whatever you want Kainene, isn't that what you have always done? What do you care about my opinion, I have no money so my interest does not matter to you. I'm of no value to you" Richard flared up.

"How can you say that?" Nene asked painfully.

"You dare to look hurt? Did you tell me that you were the only person in the entire company that's earning five hundred thousand, I know you've been taking birth control pills. Nene you always do whatever the hell you want so don't let me stop you now" Richard yelled at her and walked away.

Nene sighed and sat back. "He'll come around, it's just his bloody pride that's holding you back" She said to herself.

"I had a good time, besides it made me realize how much I miss your cooking" Jidenna smiled a little bit uncomfortable because three of Dara's siblings were watching from a safe distance.

Her face glowed, at least he'd missed something about her.  "I'm sorry about my brothers, they can be  overly  protective" Dara said looking at her toes.  "I understand, I have a little sister too" Jidenna cleared his throat.

Awkward....Dara thought. Maybe she should try researching 'creative ways to part with your ex again' "Goodbye?" she didn't want him to go.

"Goodbye" he said and turned away from her. Dara watched him retreat into his car and wondered what she was lacking, he hadn't even asked for her contact. He didn't want to see her again.

"Interesting young man" Tomi said placing his hand on his sister's shoulder. "What?..yes! He is" Dara smiled up at her brother. "He's not the one for you sis" Tomi said.
Dara pulled away from her brother "He's not my anything" Dara whispered.
"Maybe, but I see the way you looked at him. He doesn't feel the same way" Tomi said.
"Maybe with time.... " Dara said but Tomi only shook his head. "Honey,  I know his type. I'd hate for you to get hurt. God will bring you someone else" Tomi said.

She'd forgotten Tomi's advice two months later when she'd run into Jidenna at the bank.  She believed fate kept  bringing them together.

"Jidenna!" she called when she saw him walking past the lobby. She followed him dropping the withdrawal slip hastily.

"I don't have time Dara, I'm sorry maybe some other time" he looked angry and his words were harsh but that didn't deter her.

"You look so upset, I'm sorry is there anything I can do to help?" she asked him concerned.

"Nothing!" he snapped. "Please talk to me, I really want to help" Dara pushed.

"Always madam two goody shoes aren't you, I'm not some sort of stray that need to be brought into the fold. I don't need your help, please leave. You're bothering me" Jidenna said.

"If that's what you want" Dara said sadly and turned away from him immediately. She heard him sharp intake of breath.

"I'm sorry Dara,  I don't mean to be so harsh. I'm just in a foul mood" he called back.  Dara turned back to him "I understand, it's just one of those days" Dara said.
"It's worse Dara, no one really understands me.  I want to do something that would change a lot but no one ever understands. No one ever wants to help" Jidenna said.

"Let me buy you lunch, you need someone to talk to" Dara offered and waited patiently for him to accept.

Jidenna nodded and followed her to a near by eatery. After the waiter had dropped their order of burgers and sodas,  Dara turned to him with a smile.

"What's the matter J?" she asked him taking his hand in hers in a comforting gesture. Jidenna pulled away to uncork his soda. "Everything" Jidenna said closing his eyes briefly.

Dara kept quiet and waited for him to continue.
"I lost my job, the car, the apartment and everything that comes with it.  I stay with my sister now" Jidenna said.
He didn't add that the woman he wanted to marry kept on refusing him,  Jenifer had resorted to avoiding him now.

"I'm sorry" Dara said not knowing anything else to say.
"It's okay,  life will get better" he said.
"I hope so,  maybe if you could forward me your CV, I could try to ask my brothers or my parents for help.  Nene's dad has a... " Jidenna cut her off.

"There is no need for that" He said taking a sip of his soda.
"I appreciate your help but I don't want to work for anyone else" Jidenna said.
"Well what would you like to do?" Dara asked.

"Nothing" Jidenna said too quickly.
"You shouldn't hide anything from me" Dara said .
"I want to go into forex trading" Jidenna said.
"I know what you're thinking, how does a broke man achieve that" Jidenna looked amused a little but his hands shook.

"No, of course not.  You were always ambitious and I've always believed in you" Dara said.
"You're a good friend" Jidenna said absently.

Dara ignored the pang of hurt, he needed her that was all that mattered. "So what are your plans?" Dara asked.

"I've been talking with the right people,  all I need is the capital. I went to the bank and tried my best to get them to help but you know how they can be" Jidenna said.

"And how much do you need?" Dara asked.

"Doesn't matter, I can't raise the money before next month. The people will just take their business elsewhere" Jidenna said.

"How much do you need?" Dara asked again. Jidenna looked her squarely in the eyes.  "Six million Naira Dara, six million. I've raised just one point five million. I have no-one to borrow from again. The bank was my only hope" Jidenna said.

"And if you invest the money what would come out of it?" Dara asked him playing with her bracelet. 
She quickly made a mental list of everyone in her family that owed her favors, her friends, Nene and Cassie.  Cassie's father was bloody rich, hell even richer than Nene's.

"Let's say I should be making two million every month. At the end of the year I can renew my contract with them or just go solo" Jidenna said.

"And it's legitimate, you're sure it's not a scam?"  Dara asked.  Jidenna shook his head "It's all a gamble, but  I'm willing to risk it.  Do you understand?" Jidenna searched her face.

And she was ready to risk it with him. "I've been saving up money" Dara said.
"For?" he asked her. 
"My wedding" Dara would have tinted if she had white skin.
"Wow,  you're getting married?" he asked her. 
"No... I don't have anyone now. I'm just saving ahead to get my perfect wedding" Dara smiled. 
"I hope you get that, whoever marries you is a lucky man. I mean it Dara" Jidenna thought of Jenifer.

"It's not much, just about four hundred and fifty. I'll empty my savings tomorrow, you need it more than I do" Dara said.

"What?" Jidenna shook his head. "No,  please let me help you. I have faith in you and I know you will pay me back someday.  I want to give you the money" Dara said.

"What about your dream wedding?" Jidenna asked. "It can wait. Yours is more important. I'll also run around and ask for more to help you" Dara said. "Why?  I've...I've...treated you badly in the past" Jidenna looked perplexed.

"In the past, let's look to the future. Beside I owe you for helping me out at the mall that day. Let me help you now" Dara smiled.

"Thank you Dara,  thank you" Jidenna got up and pulled her into a hug.  "He's worth it" Dara told herself.

The next day, Dara had called almost everyone she knew.
Cassie and Nene had helped out too, giving her close to two million Naira. Although they weren't aware she was helping out her ex boyfriend.

Her brothers Abayomi, Adedayo and Tomiwa had also helped their sister. The stress was worth it, the priceless look on Jidenna's face when she handed him a cheque.
The smile that followed and the proposal that followed six months later when he had hit it big was worth it.

Dele paced around the hallway nervously. He hoped that Tiwa was really his daughter, at least one good thing would come out of his miserable life in this miserable world.

He had wanted a child with Cassie, children rather, a family. Too bad she'd stuck with his useless brother, fück the family cult.

"Dele sit down and stop pacing around" Mrs Ademola eyed him warily.

"Don't freaking tell me what to do,  I'm not your son that you can order about" Dele warned.

"I know that don't I? I think we've established that. What did I say about speaking to me rudely in public?" Mrs Ademola snapped.

"Shut the Bleep up already and let me think" He growled at her before turning away again.

Tobi wrapped his arms around his wife but his eyes were on his mother and Dele.

Why Dele, his mother had always detested Dele. Why was she having an affair with him now?  It didn't make any sense to him, none at all.  All those years of hatred,  was it purely pretense?

Doctor Abisuga came out carrying Tiwa who was babbling about something that happened in her school.

Her eyes lit up and she spoke animatedly, Cassie looked at her wondering if she was really part Dele. 
Sometimes she behaved oddly, like how she would throw a tantrum and destroy things. Tobi only got angry when he was pushed to the edge,  Dele on the other hand......No!

"Here's your bundle of joy, the results will be out in about twenty four hours. I'll mail it directly to Babalola" Doctor Abisuga smiled.

"Grannie!" Tiwa skipped to her grandma cheerily.
"I was a good girl,  I behaved" Tiwa jumped up and down. 
"Of course Tiwa,  you're always a good girl.  Did you say hello to uncle Dele?" Mrs Ademola asked.
"Uncle Dele" Tiwa acknowledged.
"How are you sweetheart" Dele kissed her cheek and she giggled. 

Cassie got up instantly and walked over to them. 
"If you don't mind I'm taking Tiwa home" She said and placed her hand on Tiwa's shoulder but Tiwa moved away.
"I want to go get ice cream and pizza with Uncle Dele" She played with the beads on her hair.

"Honey we'll buy you pizza on the way home" Tobi said coldly.
"I think Dele has earned the right to spend time with his niece" Mrs Ademola said.  "Mom" Tobi looked mad. 
"Now's not the right time, maybe some other time" Cassie protested, she didn't want to leave her child with Dele.

"Dele will bring Tiwa home before dinner no more questions. Goodbye Cassie, Tobi" Mrs Ademola dared her son to refuse her.

Cassie turned to Tobi for help, she didn't want her daughter alone with the devil.  She didn't trust Dele,  imagine if he took her daughter away.

"Cassie let's go" Tobi turned away.  What? Cassie looked baffled. She turned to Tiwa and frowned, why did the little girl have to be so stubborn sometimes and selfish too?

"Mummy aren't you leaving with Dad?" Tiwa asked innocently.
"Six o'clock Dele,  and if you do anything to my child, I will find you kill you once and for all" Cassie said for Dele's ears alone.
Dele chuckled "Sweetheart why would I hurt our child?" he asked. Cassie glared at him before walking away. 

Dele smirked and turned to Mrs Ademola, "You can stop hovering about me like a lost puppy now,  get lost.  I want some privacy with my daughter " Dele glared at Mrs Ademola.
"Of course, if you want anything else you know where to find me" She said and walked away.

"Why is grannie leaving?" Tiwa asked her uncle.
"She doesn't like ice cream honey" he picked her up.
"Now what's your favorite ice cream?" he smiled at her. 
"I love mint chocolate chips,  fudge cake, coconut,  peanut and just regular chocolate but mummy doesn't let me have them all at the same time" Tiwa pouted a little.
"You can have anything you want, mummy is not here" Dele winked.
"I can have it all?" Tiwa's eyes were like saucers.

"Anything for my girl" Dele said.

"What happened yesterday Nene?" Richard asked Nene later in the afternoon when they were preparing lunch together.

"Nothing, I went to the bar, had a few drinks,  Malik decided to play hero and brought me home" Nene shrugged.

"No,  I meant what happened to you? You yelled at me over the phone and threw your phone away.  Why did you go to the bar yesterday, why get drunk kainene?" Richard asked.

"Does it matter? I can exactly go back and change what I'd done.  You're used to my bad habits aren't you? That's why you decided to turn to Idara for help,  you let her dig up my family's secret and ruin everything they've built.  Now look at where we are" Nene hissed.

"Why do you always bring this up?  your dad was making illegal oil deals with other countries. Your mother was embezzling...." Richard started when Nene cut him off.

"What does it matter, I was happy!" Nene yelled at him.  "Were you really happy?" Richard asked her.  Nene frowned "At least I wasn't broke, I didn't live in a dump" Nene said.

"Are you broke Nene, do you think I'm stupid? I know how much you're really earning.  I saw a text from your bank on your phone some time ago,  when were you going to tell me you were really earning five hundred thousand?" Richard asked.

"Richard...i. " Richard held up his hand. "You can keep your damn dirty money Nene, and you know it's dirty money.  I gave you a home when your parents ran out on you leaving you nothing, you call it a dump because it doesn't suit your taste? That's fine,  you won't have to stay in this dump anymore" Richard said and dropped the knife. He walked out of the kitchen leaving Nene hanging.

She gave him time to cool off. After finishing the cooking alone, she joined him.
"What do you mean by I won't have to stay in this dump anymore?" Nene asked.

"Landlord called yesterday morning , he said government had sold the land to someone else and they were going to demolish the building" Richard said.

Nene gasped "Demolish?  that doesn't make any sense. Why would they want to demolish the building?" Nene asked.

"My guesses are someone has paid him a really good amount for the land and he wants us out" Richard buried his head in his hands.

"Why...why is this happening? Could this be coincidence or karma for something Richard?  First your job,  then the house." Nene looked pained as she sat beside him.

"How long do we have left?" Nene asked Richard. "Roughly two months" Richard said.

"That's fine, I'll get us another place. How's your job hunt going?" Nene looked worried.

"There's no need for that Nene,  I spoke with the boys when the news came.  They said they'd be fine living with their grandmother. It's closer to their school too, now I know you won't stay in another dump so I won't ask you to move in with me" Richard said.

"You'd rather have us apart?" Nene asked. "Yes,  not for long but for a while.  Till I get my own job,  you can see the kids every weekend" Richard said.

"Why do I feel like you're trying to get rid of me?" Nene asked bitterly. "I'm not trying to get rid of you kainene. You're my wife and the mother of my children,  I just need space.  This is our best bet for now" Richard said.

"You need space?" Nene looked at him in disbelief. "Yes,  I need to think. Everytime something comes up you blame me for your misfortune. Tell me Nene, did you really enjoy spending illegitimate money?" Richard asked.

He didn't wait for her reply  "You keep lying and disrespecting me. There's only so much a man can take,  I need space. I need to breathe Nene, do you understand that?" Richard asked.

"Where will you go?" Nene asked. "Mum's house will be to cramped by the time most of our stuffs get there. Toni said she'd help keep most of our stuffs in her guest quarters" Richard said.

"So you talked with your family about everything before talking to your wife" Nene asked resentfully.

Richard glared at her "I did call my wife,  she hung up and decided to be irresponsible. You only care about yourself Nene,  that's why you decided to get drunk.  When was I supposed to discuss with you, when you were drunk or asleep?" Richard asked.

"Well where will you stay?" Nene asked again. "With Luke" Richard said. Luke was his best friend who had sworn never to get married, wise decision. He lives in a three room condo and Richard would be just fine there.

"Where will I stay?" Nene asked. "Did you think of that?" Nene asked bitterly. "You're a big girl,  you can take care of yourself. I trust you,  look for somewhere classy. Somewhere that fits your taste,  I wouldn't want you to live in a dump darling" Richard was sarcastic.

Nene wondered if this was the end of her marriage, out of sight, out of mind.  Would he find someone else, someone better?

"Baby what's the emergency?" Cassie asked entering the house. She was surprised when she walked into the living room and met the ademola clan.

"Good evening everyone" Cassie locked eyes with Dele who was smiling wickedly.

"Good evening" They chorused coldly. Cassie walked to her husband and sat beside him. "Where is Tiwa?" Cassie asked.

"Upstairs, she's asleep." Tobi replied coldly and took her hands. He squeezed them, Cassie noticed his eyes were red again.

"Cassandra we're all here because of you. Your mother in law brought a matter to our notice and we're here to address it" Babalola said. He was the head of the house since Tobi's father passed.

"What's the matter uncle Babs, what has mummy told you?" Cassie asked. Her heart was leaping.

"Dele here told your mother in law that the both of you had an affair under your husband's roof, how true is this?" Babalola asked.

Cassie instantly looked at Dele again. "I wouldn't call it an affair, Dele here forced me to..." Mrs Ademola cut her off instantly.

"Did you or did you not sleep with him?" She asked. "Mother......!" Tobi looked angry now.

"Tobi you're advised not to interfere, I want the truth in this matter. Speak Cassandra, you cheated on your husband with his half brother in this house?" Babalola asked.

"Yes, it was a mistake. I cut ties with Dele and I... " Cassie was cut off again by her mother in law. "Really, mistake? You were sleeping with him for weeks!" Mrs Ademola said.

"What nonsense mother, stop it this instant" Tobi turned to his mother angrily again. "Don't speak to your mother that way Son" Babalola chided.

"I'm not your son!" Tobi spat. "Very well, but I'm old enough to be your father and you will sit and listen to me. Be quiet or I'll have you thrown out of your own house!" Babalola fumed.

Tobi nodded still looking angry. "What were you saying Cassandra?" Babalola asked. "I said Dele forced me, I told him I wasn't interested but he used force to get what he wanted" Cassie wiped a stray tear away.

"Dele did you force your brother's wife?" Babalola asked. "Uncle Babs, why would I do that? Cassandra here threw herself at me the moment she saw me. She said she wanted me, she was angry that her husband had baby mamas about and wanted to get even. She was willing" Dele smirked at Tobi.

"You bastard! I let you into my home yet you..." Tobi started angrily again but his uncle shut him up. "Sit down young man" Afeni said looking angry.

"Don't waste our time, let's settle this issue and leave. Your mother came to us and told us that your promiscuous wife slept with your brother. And that your daughter is his, yet you won't let him keep her" Afeni sneered.

"My wife is not promiscuous, I don't care if you're my uncle. You're in my house, don't you dare talk about my wife that way" Tobi looked mad.

"It's not my fault you married a slut" Afeni said. Cassie held Tobi back so he wouldn't respond.

"Let them talk and leave" She begged Tobi in a whisper.

Tobi squeezed her hand again this time in a comforting gesture. Dele eyed their union enviously. He could kill just to have the one woman he wanted. Cassandra.....


"Tiwa is not Dele's daughter, she's Tobi's" Cassandra said. "Did you do a paternity test, how do you know that?" Mrs Ademola asked.

"I know because she's my daughter!" Cassie snapped wondering why her mother in law suddenly favored the bastard instead of her own son.

"Since the paternity remains questionable, I've decided that we'll solve this issue by finding out who truly is the father of the child" Babalola said. "I have arranged with the family doctor, a paternity test will be arranged tomorrow. This issue is dismissed till the result is ready" Babalola said.

"Okay sir" Cassie said. She turned to Tobi. "We'll talk with our lawyer tomorrow" she said quietly.

The Ademola clan began to disperse. "Everything will be fine" Cassie wrapped her arms around her husband.

She blamed herself for everything, if only she hadn't fallen into Dele's trap.
If only she could go back and change what she had done.

Nene's phone rang the minute she walked out of the restaurant. She checked the caller, it was Richard.

"Yes, what do you want?" she asked rudely when she answered. Richard knew instantly that she'd was in a foul mood.

"We have a problem Nene" he said calmly. "What is it again? Handle it Richard. Please, I'm not in the mood!" Nene said frustrated entering into her car.

She needed a drink, not just a drink. She needed escape, alcohol escape.

"Come home Nene, we need to talk" Richard said. "Home? Do we have a home Richard, you call a rented apartment our home? Whatever the problem is handle it yourself" Nene said.

"Nene I need you right now, I need you here" Richard said. "And I need a lot of things, I need a lot of things but I don't have it. Leave me the hell alone!" Nene screamed and ended the call. She threw her cell out of the car like a crazed woman before driving away.


"Where is Nene?" Cassie asked the minute Richard answered the door.

"Shouldn't I be asking you that Cass? She went out to see you" Richard said going back into the house. Cassie followed looking confused.

"That was six hours ago, I saw her phone outside the restaurant. It's broken, I tried calling you but your phone was switched off" Cassie said looking worried.

"What about her car?" Richard asked alarmed. "It's gone, and she's not back?" Cassie asked.

"No, I talked to her earlier but she seemed mad. I hope she's not doing something crazy, you know how Nene has a streak of madness" Richard sighed.

"I hope so too, anyway how's the boys?" Cassie asked. "Grandma's house" Richard said.

"Okay, my husband is waiting for me at home. Apparently something came up, let me know if madam shows up." Cassie said.

"Okay I'll do just..." Richard was saying when they heard the sound of a vehicle. Nene was back.

"Well... Madam is back" Richard went to the door and yanked it open. It was Malik who got down from Nene's car.

"What is he doing here?" Cassie hissed when she saw Malik. "Why is he driving Nene's car?" Richard asked.

Malik turned over to the back seat and picked up Nene. "Where are we?" she asked. "I've brought you to your husband sweetheart, you'll be fine. Relax" Malik said taking her out of the car.

Cassie and Richard went over to him. "Malik" Cassie said with disgust. "Did you drug my friend? I wouldn't put it past you" Cassie said.

"Cleopatra, why would you think that?" Malik asked feigning a wounded look. "The name is Cassandra" Cassie hissed. "What's the difference?" Malik asked.

"What's going on here, what's wrong with Nene?" Richard asked taking Nene from Malik. "Nene here is drunk, I found her at the bar. I brought her back to you, I'm a good man Richard, despite what you think" Malik said.

"Why should I believe anything you say?" Richard asked. "You can ask her when she's back to normal. If you don't mind, I'd take my leave now. My driver followed and he's waiting for me outside" Malik winked.

"Goodnight Richard, Cleopatra. Maybe we could see some other time, oh and say hello to my god children" He said before leaving.

Cassie turned to Richard "Tighten your leash on Nene, I don't trust Malik. Goodnight Richard" Cassie said shaking her head before leaving.

Richard looked at his woman, she had resorted to drinking. Was she that unhappy?

"I have a test tomorrow, I have to read. You promised that you wouldn't bother me if I came over" Dara whined turning the other way.

"You take things way too serious babe, live a little. Close the book and let me give you a little spice" Jidenna kissed her neck.

"Later" Dara pulled away. "Why do you always do this every time Dara? You won't let me touch you" Jidenna asked her looking pissed.

"What are you talking about?" Dara asked. "I think I've earned the right to touch my girlfriend, you won't let me touch you. You won't even touch me either. I can't fück you" Jidenna looked frustrated.

"Don't use that kind of crude word. I told you already I didn't want to sleep with anyone. I promised my mum I wouldn't sleep with anyone till I got married, I'm not breaking my promise" Dara said wrapping her arms around herself.

This was way she hadn't even wanted a relationship in the first place, but Jidenna had made her fall in love. Despite her love for him, she didn't want to give in.

"When we get married, we could....." Dara started but kept quiet when Jidenna shot her a look. 'Who says I want to marry you?' he wondered mutely.

"I'm sorry, what's the rush? I just have two years till I graduate. After my youth service, we could get married" Dara played with the edge of her skirt.

Jidenna scoffed "So basically you want me to wait for you for three to four years. Do I look like a monk to you Dara?" he asked.

"Well what do you want me to do?" she asked near to tears. She wasn't going to have sex till marriage, nothing would make her break her promise.

"You're right, it isn't fair of me to ask you to give up your dearest virginity. Keep it, whoever marries you can have it. I don't give a fück" Jidenna said picking up the duvet on the bed.

"What are you saying?" Dara asked him calmly. Somehow she already knew what he was saying, what he meant.

"This relationship is not heading anywhere Dara, why continue?" he asked her. He walked to the couch and sat down.

"Because I won't have sex with you?" she asked him. "No, not just that. I don't love you, you're not exactly my type" Jidenna said coldly.

"What?" Dara asked in disbelief. "Look Dara, it's late you can stay here for tonight. We can remain friends, this relationship is over. I don't want to discuss this anymore, go to bed" Jidenna said coldly before turning away from her.

"You don't mean that" Dara said hurt. He didn't respond, not even when she broke into tears.

The next day when she woke up, he was gone. She picked up her things and left the house.

"I can't believe I forgot my text book at Jay's house. What was I thinking?" Dara asked Nene amused.

"Do you think around him, you love that guy way too much. A woman shouldn't love a man that way" Nene hissed.

"Hmm, love doctor Kainene" Cassie remarked lifting her head from her phone.

"I'm serious!" Nene said. "He doesn't feel the same way. Don't you see the way he talks to her, like she's a child. He didn't love you, I'm glad you two are done" Nene said frowning.

Cassie turned to Dara "Well... What are you going to do about the text book? " she asked.

"Get another one" Dara said sourly. They'd been over for two weeks now but she didn't think she could handle going to his house.


"No way! We're all going to his house to get our text book. And we'll glam you up so the idiot can see what he's missing" Nene said.

"I don't think that's a good idea" Dara said nervously. "I'm firmly behind Nene, we're going to get the text book. Screw Jidenna, he needs to see you're over him" Cassie said.

"But I'm not" Dara said. "Because he's your first boyfriend. You'll get over it, anyway he wouldn't know you still love him. You just need to act like you don't" Nene said.

"This is a bad idea" Dara protested. "Best idea ever!" Nene giggled before going to her wardrobe.



Dara knocked nervously at first before Nene had pushed her to the side. She banged the door rudely till it came open.

"What do you want?" A tall fair skinny girl wearing a large T-shirt asked coming out of the house. She looked really pretty, like someone Jidenna would date.

'His type' Dara's heart fell. She tried not to look at the girl, and the T-shirt. The T-shirt she'd bought for him on his birthday.
"Who the heck are you?" Nene asked glaring at miss long legs.

"The girlfriend, who the hell are you?" Miss long legs had asked.

"Friend of the ex girlfriend, tell Mr asshole that we're outside and we want our text book" Nene frowned. "Could we just go?" Dara whispered to Cassie.

"No" Cassie maintained. "We're getting out textbook, period" Cassie hissed. Miss long legs rolled her pretty eyes framed by long lashes before going back into the house.


She came out minutes later with Jidenna. "Jenifer, let me handle this" he said to her. A passive look on his face, as he noticed two angry women and a downcast expression.

"Did you come to make trouble?" he asked the trio the minute Jenifer went into the house. "Trouble? You're not worth it" Cassie replied.

"Then what do you want?" He frowned. "I left my text book here and a few other things. I came to get them" Dara replied.

"I'm sorry about that but I cleaned up the house and trashed them" Jidenna said.

"How dare you?" Nene spat. "That's fine, girls let's go" Dara said. "No, let me give this bastard a piece of my mind" Nene said.

"Forget it, let's go" Dara turned away and left. Cassie and Nene had said a few words to Jidenna but she didn't hear it. She didn't feel anything.

She was numb, so this was what heart break felt like.
