9 "What's going on here? What's wrong with you two? Make up already, I can't have my two best friends fighting" Cassie hissed. "Talk to Nene? No way! She has to apologize for what she said to me" Dara hissed angrily. "Excuse me? I should apologize to you for telling you the truth? Go to hell Darasimi" Nene said looking away. "You told me you wanted to talk Cassandra, you didn't tell me you were bringing miss spoiled brat here" Dara said. "Bitch you did not just call me that" Nene narrowed her eyes. "Yes I did, oh wait I forgot. The spoiled brat has grown up now, her rich fraudulent parents are no longer pumping in illegitimate money for her. She's now poor" Dara rolled her eyes. "Don't talk about my parents, ever. Don't you ever Darasimi" Nene hissed before standing up. She picked up her bag and walked away. "Dara that was harsh, how could you say that to her. Nene has enough problems already, do you know how hard it is for her to deal with her new status and you just rubbed it into her face again!" Cassie looked angry. "That's what you do everytime, you always take sides with Nene. Why do you do that, I don't want to listen to this nonsense" Dara said. "What is wrong with you Dara, what's the matter? This is not you" Cassie said. "I don't know Cassie, I feel like I'm going to lose my family anytime soon. What do I do? What if Jay brings in another woman?" Dara asked. "Whatever that is happening to us, we need to stick together. We need each other, I can't lose you two. We've been friends for years, I want us to grow old together. Please sort out your beef with Nene. I beg you, please" Cassie said. "Fine, I'll call her" Dara said gruffly. "Go to her house" Cassie said. Dara made a face "You know how that area makes me uncomfortable, I'll call her period" Dara said. Cassie's phone rang just as she was about to talk. She checked the caller ID, it was her husband. "Wait let me take this" Cassie said before getting up. She left the table and went towards the restroom area. Dara eyes was wondering about the place till someone caught her attention. She saw Chizaram sitting tables away from her, coincidence? The woman that troubled her thoughts endlessly was sitting down just a few tables from her. She watched Chizaram with a tinge of envy, what did her husband even see in this woman anyway? She was still deep in thoughts when another woman joined Chizaram, her mouth parted in surprise. A boy walked right beside the woman. It was then she understood what exactly her husband had been hiding from her. Her heart shattered. |
So what do you think? Should Tobi go with Cassie's plan Or Cassie with Tobi's plan. Your opinion matters a lot |
.............. "Tobi talk to me, what's wrong?" Cassie asked looking worried. Ever since he got back home, he'd remained silent. He was brooding, his eyes were red. "We'll leave" Tobi said. Cassie looked at him confused. "Leave?" Cassie asked him confused. "We'll leave, we'll take Tiwa and leave. Maybe we'll go to South Africa, I have a house there. Anyway where Dele wouldn't bother us again" Tobi said. Cassie pursed her lips looking displeased. "You want us to leave, leave everything you've worked for? Sweetheart you're not thinking right" Cassie said. "I'll sell my shares in the company, use the money to start up something else in South Africa. I have enough money stored up, we'll be fine. All that matters is our Tiwa will be safe, you will be safe. Dele won't be a bother, fück this family. I want to go far away from them" Tobi raged. "Tobi why, I can't just leave. My friends, Nene, Dara. My mum, she's in the institution. I can't just leave them, my entire life is here. My roots, Tobi we can't leave" Cassie said. "There are other mental institutions in South Africa , we'll transfer your mother to a good institution there. You'll make new friends Cassie, family comes first. I want you to be safe, I want our daughter to be safe. That's all that matters, think Cassie. My useless brother is a psycho!" Tobi said angrily. He thought of his brother and his mother, how could his mother see no wrong in sleeping with Dele. That was just fifty shades of fücked up! He brought his palm to his forehead. "I'm not running away, if Dele wants crazy I'll give him crazy. I won't leave my home because of him! And if he finds us in South Africa, what happens?" Cassie asked. "Can't you see I want to protect you Cassandra? If he finds us in South Africa then nothing. He has an advantage here because we're in Nigeria, because the family is here. If we leave, we can avoid a scandal" Tobi said. "I'm not leaving, I'm sorry. I can't leave" Cassie crossed her arms stubbornly. "Won't you at least consider it Cassandra?" Tobi asked. "Why don't we do a paternity test Tobi. Let's do a paternity test, if it happens that you're the father well that will shut Dele up. If he's the father, then we'll have to start talking to a lawyer. Find out our options, the worst that could happen is sharing custody with Dele. I doubt that would happen, if we can prove that he's crazy and unsafe for Tiwa to be around then the judge will give us full custody" Cassie said. "By then we'd have exposed Tiwa to the truth, do you really want out daughter to go through that? Finding out that I might not be her father?" Tobi asked. "I don't want to do that but what choice do we have. I only hope that Tiwa is really yours, if she's not....we can't love her any less" Cassie said sadly. "I raised her, blood or not she'll always remain my daughter. I'll think about it if you at least consider what I've asked you" Tobi said and sighed. Why had Dele come to destroy his home again? |
............ "I'm sorry about the other night" Malik said coming into her office two minutes after she'd settled in. Nene sighed when she noticed the gift bag and the bouquet of flowers in his hand. "You really should stop buying me gifts. Look I'm not the same Nene you used to know, I'd appreciate if you stop trying to buy my attention with flashy things" Nene said giving him a poker face. "I'm sorry, and you're right. You have indeed changed, I don't know if it's for better or for worse. It doesn't matter, you were once my lover but now I'm contented be your friend and a friend of your family. I want to be godfather to your children" Malik said with a serene look plastered on his face. "I'd appreciate your friendship anytime Mal, you're a good friend and a good boss too" Nene said and pulled him into a hug. Malik relished the close contact with the woman of his dreams. Battle was one step at a time. Step one, disarm your opponent, step two, go in for the kill, step three, claim your victory. This morning he'd disarmed his dearest Nene with the offer of friendship. Friends today, lovers tomorrow. "But I can't take your gift, I'm sorry" Dara said apologetically. "It's a gift for the boys, the flowers are for you though. Please take them, it's a peace offering" Malik said his voice dropping a little. "I'm sure the boys will appreciate it, thank you" Nene smiled and the flowers and gift bags from him. ............ "Wow, light up shoes. And they are Sketchers too! Did uncle Malik get these?" Alexis asked excited. "How did you know?" Nene asked handing Nick his own gift. "The other day he came here I told him I wanted light up shoes, it's all the rave now" Alexis said trying on the second pair of the shoes. "Air max!" Nick yelled at the same time Richard walked into the living room. "Tell him I love them, wow! these are awesome" Alexis continued. "Daddy look Uncle Malik got me Air max!" Nick rushed over to his father. Richard turned to Nene immediately "Wow, that's nice" Richard looked at the shoe in Nick's hand. "Dad are you ancient? they are better than nice!" Alexis rolled his eyes. "Of course they are" Richard sat on the armchair. "Dad, these are like over a forty thousand dollars. I'll never take them off, never!" Alexis vowed. "That's enough boys, why don't you go over to your room. Excuse your father and I for a moment" Nene said. The boys nodded and skipped over to their room still excited over the gifts. "How was the interview?" Nene asked immediately. "Good, hopefully I'll get called to work on Monday" Richard said. "Hopefully, if you don't get the job though, we'll keep looking for other jobs. I could ask Malik too" Nene suggested. "I'd rather you keep your man friend out of our problems. There us only so much I can tolerate. First he's buying you gifts, now he's buying for the kids. What next?" Richard asked looking irritated. "He'll start buying expensive briefs for you maybe" Nene joked. Richard chuckled to, rubbing his forehead. "Richie, whatever he does it's you I want. Malik will get bored and find another hobby" Nene said. "And if he gets bored and fires you?" Richard asked. "That's not the end of life, I'll work somewhere else" Nene said more to herself than him. "Okay love, if you say so" He smiled. what's the worst that could possibly happen? |

8 Dara paced about the room wondering why Jidenna's family were coming over tomorrow, why mama was around. It only meant one thing, she would never forgive him. "I thought you wanted to sleep D" Jidenna said when he entered the room, Dara was standing by the closet. "I'm just thinking, what's mazi coming for tomorrow J?" Dara asked looking at his face. He wouldn't meet her gaze, he kept looking all over the room. "Jidenna Maxwell Okolie look me in the face when I'm talking to you you bastard. Are you sleeping with that girl, chizaram?" Dara asked him angrily. Jidenna's eyes snapped to his wife's angry ones. "No, I swear I'm not sleeping with her. I've never cheated on you since we got married. Chizaram is just a friend" Jidenna went over to her. She believed him, she could see that he was telling the truth. "Why are you sending her money then, J why are you being so secretive? I'm your wife, if you trust me then talk to me. Let's talk, tell me the truth. I don't want to hear it from anyone else" Dara said. Jidenna sighed, he couldn't tell her yet. He couldn't tell her yet, not now. She would leave and she'd take the kids along, he knew Dara. "Jidenna" Dara placed her hand on his chest. "Don't make me regret taking you back, tell me the truth. Stop doing this to me I beg you, I'm on the edge Jidenna. The edge" Dara begged. "It's Obinna, he's been reckless. He put Zara out of her job, I'm just paying his debt. I'm taking care of it, Mazi Uchendu and Mama are here to talk to him, advise him" Jidenna said. Lies, it was so obvious. He was lying, when ever Jidenna lied his eyes flickered all over the place, he'd play with his knuckles. "Okay, I believe that you're not sleeping with that woman, that you're not cheating on me" Dara said and patted his chest before walking back to the bed. Jidenna watched her shed her clothes and slip into bed. "Come here" her voice was a wet whisper. Afterwards Dara laid awake staring at him, she wondered what her husband was hiding. Then her mind wandered to when they had met, when she was just a college student. ••••••••••• 'Fine boy alert' Cassie giggled sipping her smoothie. Dara rolled her eyes looking back into her text book. 'Who is that?' Nene asked lazily not bothering to lift her head. What do you expect from miss glam? Nene didn't look for boys, they looked for her. Rich, handsome guys, she was the ultimate male magnet. Beautiful, fun, a bit wild, sophisticated Nene, Cassie was just in between and while Dara was beautiful, she was the DUFF of the group. She was the bookworm, the boring one, the one who'd never gotten high, the one who was saving her virginity till marriage. The girl who thought MouthAction was a type of ice cream till Nene had given her a detailed explanation with obscene expressions. Nene always called her Holy mother of bookworms or virgin nerds. 'There's this fine guy looking over here, he looks hot though even if he's wearing a fake Nike shoes. Obvious fakes' Cassie said. Nene scoffed 'I hate guys like that, if you can't buy original then go naked. Can you imagine that Lydia, she was carrying that fake Yves Saint Laurent purse and she had the audacity to say it looked like man. Idiot got aba made, I bought mine in Milan!' Nene said outraged. Dara finally dropped the book 'Can I flipping read? For the love of God Nene you disgraced that girl in front of everyone, aren't you satisfied?' Dara asked. 'Bitch go to a Library' Nene hissed. Dara sighed and glanced in the direction of the supposed fine boy. And that was the first time she'd seen him, who knew she'd marry him. She remembered Nene's words again, it hurt that Jidenna had actually wanted Nene first. She wondered if he'd gone for Cassie too, if he'd asked Cassie to date him. ••••••••••••••• The second time she'd seen him, she had been alone at a restaurant waiting for Cassie and Nene. Nene claimed she had wardrobe crisis and had gone to the mall, while Cassie had gone out with a new guy. Since the girls had agreed to meet for lunch, they had asked Dara to reserve a table for them at their favorite joint. 'I love this book, one of my favorite' he flashed a smile. Dara was caught off guard at first but she's dealt with guys like him before so she didn't sweat it. 'Really?' she asked sourly her eyes still on the book. 'Yes, pride and prejudice. Classic, I like it' He winked. 'Tell me something about this favorite book of yours' Dara said. 'I like the author's writing style in particular, Austen's writing is witty and amusing and sympathetic if I should say. The characters on the other hand, wow Darcy and Elizabeth. I've never read anything as beautiful as this book' He smiled. Dara dropped the book and studied 'It's really your favorite book?' she asked. 'No sweetie I said that just to get your attention. Look it worked, just as the librarian promised.' his eyes crinkled. Then she laughed and they hit it off after that. ........... "Sleep" Jidenna said when Dara turned to the left again. "Did you really read pride and prejudice?" she asked him. "What kind of pillow talk conversation is this Dara? seriously. Every time you amaze me with the kind of conversation you bring up after sex" Jidenna shifted. "I just thought about us, our first conversation" Dara smiled a little. "Sleep, I have work in the morning" He said gruffly. "Asshole" she hissed and elbowed him playfully before closing her eyes. "It was a smart move on my part, you were always walking around with that book or a text book. So I researched the book, memorized some reviews and went for the kill. I've never read that book" Jidenna smirked. "Why did I marry you?" Dara asked rolling her eyes. "I'm stunning" Jidenna chuckled before closing his eyes. "Seriously go to bed" Jidenna said. She didn't move even though she wasn't asleep. She knew when he got out of bed thirty minutes later, picked up his phone and went into the bathroom. Dara sighed , Nothing had changed, he was hiding things from her. |
Sorry chumzypinky's tradition had me hooked. Updates in a bit. Thanks for your patience!!! |

............. "How dare you Dele?" Tobi stormed into Dele's apartment. He grabbed him by the collar "I let you into my own home, yet you have the audacity to threaten my wife. What the fück is wrong with you?" Tobi asked. "Tobi...let me go this instant" Dele's voice was all steel and ice. "If you fücking coming to my house again and threaten my wife. I swear to God I will kill you!" Tobi said. "I didn't freaking threaten her, she's exaggerating" Dele smirked pulling away. Tobi looked at him in disgust and was about to say something when a figure wrapped in a terry cloth robe came into the room. Tobi stopped and looked between Dele and his mother. "What's going on here?" he asked confused. "It's not what you think" Mrs Ademola said coming forward. She looked flustered and guilty "Tobi..." she stopped and turned to Dele. "You're sleeping with mum?!" Tobi looked at Dele astonished. "Your mum, not mine" Dele said coldly. "Are you out of your mind?" Tobi lunged at Dele and pushed him to the ground. By the time Mrs Ademola managed to pull him off, Dele's face was swollen and bleeding. "Don't touch me, I can't even look at you. Sleeping with Dele, what would father think of you?" Tobi said hurt. "Your father is dead, and even if he was alive it wouldn't matter. He had mistresses too, don't you dare judge me!" Mrs Ademola spat. "Aren't you ashamed, he's your step son!" Tobi shouted and turned to Dele in rage again. "He's not my son, he's not my child. Whatever happened here today will not get out of this room. You will not bother Dele again, it's our business. Get out" his mother turned away. "Then you don't have a son, I won't have a LovePeddler for a mother!" Tobi spat and got a slap on his face. "The truth stings doesn't it?" Tobi mocked. "Tobi, you should leave. Go take care of business, your daughter and your pregnant wife" Mrs Ademola said. Dele got up and scowled at Tobi. "So she's pregnant, are you sure it's yours?" He said wiping his bloody mouth with his palm. "One more word from you Dele and I'll kill you with my bare hands" Tobi said enraged. "You and your wife will hear from my lawyers" Dele said and walked out of his living room. He cursed Tobi and the entire Ademola family loudly. If Tobi didn't give him his daughter peacefully then he'd be forced to use plan B. |
............. "I thought I told you I didn't want to go to the dinner with you tonight" Nene hissed when she entered the car. His P. A Austin was also in the car so she decided to hold her speech till they got to their destination. "Yes dear, but we're not going to the dinner anymore. You were right, a socialite dinner would really make you uncomfortable after your parents image have been ruined, so I've decided we should have dinner alone. Somewhere you will be comfortable" Malik smirked. "Where are you taking me to?" Nene asked frowning. "Do you like the dress by the way? I've always liked red on you" Malik said. "Where are we going to?" Nene asked again. "It was designed by Amore couture, I asked the designer to specially design it for you. I sent her an image of you and she was able to get the right size, impressive isn't it?" Malik winked. "Yes, thanks but why?" Nene asked. "Feeding my eyes" Malik muttered under his breath before looking at her cleavage again. "You're perfect, good to know that mother hood simply amplified your beauty" Malik said. Nene held her breath and waited for him to tell her where they were going. "I'm surprised your husband let you leave, how did you manage to convince him?" Malik wondered how Richard could be stupid enough to let his dear Red Riding Hood leave with the big bad wolf. "Malik, I told you I didn't want to go out" Nene said. "And yet you're here, you could have said no. I always respect your wishes don't I?" he asked cunningly. Nene sighed and looked away, why had Richard wanted her to come anyway. "Did the shoes and jewelry meet your taste?" he asked. "My tastes have changed!" Nene snapped. "You're right, you now love low standard things like you're husband. Poor and Jobless, how do you cope with that?" Malik mocked. "Did you invite me out to insult me?" Nene asked pained. "Not you, never you honey. Your husband, why did your parents let you marry him?" Malik asked. "I love Richard, broke or jobless. That's why I married him, because I love him and not you. Do you understand that Boss?" she asked him. "We're going to your favorite Italian restaurant" Malik ignored her. "I hate Italian food now, please take me home Malik" she said. "Let's get something for your kids then" Malik insisted. "This is ridiculous Malik! Take me home, now!" Nene looked angry now. "Very well" Malik ordered the driver to go back to Nene's house. Nene came down from the car without saying goodbye. Malik watched her leave and hated Richard the more. "This house, Find out who owns it. I'd like to buy it" Malik told his assistant the minute Nene left. "If he refuses to sell?" Austin asked. "Contact my cousin, he's a commissioner. Tell him to find away to have this building seized from the owner" Malik said. "Nene needs to realize that I'm the only she needs, the only one who can help her. Not that wretched husband of hers" Malik said to himself. |
7 "I was invited to a dinner party tonight, I was wondering if you would like to be my plus one?" Malik asked. "Thanks but no, Ever since my parents misfortune I've made it a point to avoid any elite gatherings" Nene said concentrating on the work right in front of her. "I never said it was an elite gathering Nene" Malik said smiling. "Yes you didn't, but I know you wouldn't attend anything less" Nene said. Malik took her hands and frowned "Forget about work for now. Look at me, let's talk" he said. "But.." Nene protested. "No buts, Come with me to the party" he said. "Why, you can go with anyone else. Why me?" Nene asked. "I trust you, only you. Besides I want to give you a fun night, the life you're used to. When was the last time your husband took you out on a date?" Malik asked. Nene frowned and pulled away "It doesn't matter, we have work. There's no time for that" Nene said. "Is that what he tells you or what you tell yourself. Don't lie to yourself sweetheart" Malik took her hands again. "If you don't want to go with me, that's fine. I'll see you on Monday then" Malik kissed the back of her palm before leaving. Nene sighed and reminded herself once more that she only needed this job for a year, a year and she was done. By then she'd have enough money to set up a business. "Alright boys let's move to my bedroom. Mum brought pizza and we're having bed and movie night" Richard announced. "Lame" Alexis rolled his eyes while Nick ran off excitedly into the bedroom. "I'm only going because of the pizza" Alexis said causing Richard to chuckle and shake his head. "You think you're all grown up, you're still my little boy" Nene teased. "Mummy stop, I'm not a little boy" Alexis hissed and walked away. The bell rang and Richard looked to Nene. "Expecting Someone?" he asked. "No, go check. I'll pick out a movie with the boys" Nene suggested. Richard went to the the door and unlocked it. A dark skinny man stood at the other end "I'm looking for Kainene Nwankwo" The man said. Richard called out for Kainene who came to the door immediately. Nene was surprised to see Yaro, Malik's driver. "Yaro what do you want?" she asked. Yaro handed her a bag. "Mr Malik said you should change into the dress and come meet him in the car" Yaro said. "Why?" Nene asked confused. "Your date of course" Yaro replied and walked off. Richard turned to Nene, "You're going out with your boss?" he asked her surprised. "No, I'll go talk to him. Give me a few minutes" she said. Richard shook his head "on the contrary, I think you should go" Richard said. "What?" Nene asked incredulously. "You should go, the kids and I will be fine. I think you deserve a night out. You've been working too hard, I'd take you out but I can't at the moment. So get dressed and go" Richard said. "Richard no... " Richard interrupted her by cupping her face and kissing her. "Go, I trust you. Go, that's an order" Richard said. "Alright" Nene ordered. Nene went back into the room and asked the boys to go back to their room. Nick protested but Richard handled him. A few moments later, she kissed Richard goodbye and left. Richard sighed and turned to the boys. "How about Avengers?" he asked. "Yes!!!" the boys rushed back into the bedroom. He knew it was stupid to let Nene go out with a man who could give her the world In a flash but he wanted to know the depths of her love for him. It was either him or luxury, he wanted to know which she'd pick. |
............... Dara was surprised when her mother in law came in from Enugu early in the morning. Ever since the deadly incident caused by Ada years back, every one had been in their tents. Mama only visited when the twins were born and when they turned two. She claimed she was too old to travel whenever she was invited but she was a frequent visitor at Obinna's house at Falomo. "Will you be here till weekend mum?" Jidenna asked his mother during dinner. Dara wondered why he appeared nervous in the presence of his mother. "No, you know why I'm here. I already phoned Emeka and your uncle will be here in the morning?" Mrs Okolie said. She sighed and looked at her grand children then switched her gaze to the mother again. Dara knew something was up instantly, his mother was here in Lagos. Mazi Uchendu was coming the next day along with Emeka, Dara knew immediately that something had happened. Her thoughts went to Chizaram, perhaps Jidenna had an affair with her. Perhaps Jidenna had gotten her pregnant, perhaps, perhaps.... She stood up abruptly and turned to the twins. "It's late, you two have school tomorrow. Let's get ready for bed" Dara said. "But mummy..." Iremide protested. "Come on, tomorrow night is a Friday night so you two can stay up all night if you please" Dara said. "I don't want to sleep yet" Iremide said. "Listen to your mother, say goodnight to grandma and go to your room" Jidenna ordered causing the twins to stand up immediately. "Goodnight mama" Dara picked up the plates and left the dinner table. Once she was in the comforts of her room, she wondered immediately what she would do if Jidenna brought another woman Into their home. She picked up her phone and wondered who she could call. She didn't want to bother Cassie with her problems and she wasn't on speaking terms with Nene. So she decided to call her cousin Tamilore. "If brings another woman home, leave him! Take your kids and run for your life. Igbo women are terrible, they will turn your husband against you and poison your children. Dara I don't want you to be a victim, you know what my husband and his mistress put me through" Tamilore warned. Dara sighed and shook her head, but Jidenna was nothing like Tamilore's husband. She thought of Tamilore's husband, he was a good man till that Benin girl came around. She wondered if Chizaram would really change Jidenna. If indeed Jidenna did bring another woman home was she to stay and fight for her home or leave with her children. |
........... Dele watched Cassie and Tobi with hawk like eyes and felt bitter and jealous all over again. 'The perfect family' he thought enviously. Not for long anymore, he knew Cassie. She'd bury herself in the sand when Dele exposed her to the world. He wondered if Tobi knew what had went down his wife few years ago. If he knew that his daughter might as well be Dele's. "I brought a present for the birthday girl, my lovely niece" he smiled going towards Tiwa who had a ridiculous birthday hat on. Cassie glared hard at Dele, if he tried nonsense. She wouldn't hesitate to bury the cake knife into his chest. It was Tobi's mother in her usual exaggerated generosity who had invited the devil to Tiwa's birthday party. Tiwa took the large package off her uncle's hand. "Thank you Uncle" She placed the present on the floor and started to unwrap the present. "Mummy look, it's the fish from the mall." Tiwa said excitedly. Cassie gritted her teeth and pulled off a fake smile. "you shouldn't have Dele, Tiwa already has this" Cassie said. "Another one won't hurt, beside daddy didn't buy the big one. I don't like the smaller ones. Thank you Uncle Dele" she grinned. "Anything for my girl" Dele kissed her cheek. 'She's not your girl' Cassie muttered under her breath. "Sweet heart why don't we go out it in your aquarium" Tobi suggested and picked up the little girl. "Well Dele, shouldn't you be heading home now, party is over" Cassie said picking up the wrappers on the floor. Dele joined her "I'm sorry I was late, Mother called me last minute" he said looking right into her face. "I don't think it would have mattered if you came or not. It would have been a lot better if you didn't show up" Cassie hissed and walked to the kitchen. Dele followed, a smirk on his face. "I wouldn't miss my daughter's birthday" Dele said. Cassie turned sharply "She's not your daughter, Tiwa is Tobi's flesh and blood. I know you're here to stir up trouble, you're wasting your time. If you want a paternity test, you will get it" Cassie said angrily. "Come on Cassie, are you sure you want the whole family to know about our dirty secret? If you want we could start by telling Tobi" Dele said. "I told him already, he forgave me. Nothing else matters you fool, go tell the world. It wouldn't change anything, it won't change how Tobi feels about me. If you're done here, you should leave" Cassie said. "You're bluffing" Dele looked angry now. "Not this time" Cassie said without blinking. "I want the paternity test results, you will give me what I want or you will hear from my lawyers" Dele hissed and walked away. Cassie broke into a sob minutes after he'd left. Why did Dele have to come back? |
you're welcome kennybelle: |
6 Nene fell to the bed frustrated, tears slipped out her eyes. She couldn't bottle her emotions again, was it so bad to want a better life for herself, for the kids, for Richard. "No one, ever understands me" she sobbed quietly burying her face into the pillow. So what if Malik fancied her? She wasn't throwing herself at him. She was a mother and a wife, she wasn't planning to throw that away. She was just trying to make a better life for everyone. "Nene...." she heard Richard's voice and turned to look at him. "What?" she asked wiping tears from her face. "When did you come in?" Richard went to the bed and laid beside her. "Few minutes ago, you were in the bathroom with the boys" Nene said. Richard buried his face in her neck. "Richie..." her voice softened and she placed her hand on his back. "Kainene, I'm sorry. This is not what I wanted for us, I wanted better. I..." he stopped and placed his arm around her waist. "It's OK, we're fine" she kissed the top of his head. "It's not fine Nene" he said. "What's wrong, the promotion?" she asked concerned. "Is it about the promotion?" she pressed when he didn't respond. "No....it's worse Nene. I don't freaking understand, I qualified for the promotion" Richard said. "Screw them Richard, if they didn't give you the promotion then they're stupid" Nene said rubbing his back soothingly. "I lost my job" Richard dropped the bomb. He waited for Nene's reaction but he got nothing but a sharp intake of breath. "I'll get another one..." he murmured. "We're going to be fine, we're going to be fine right?" Nene seemed unsure. "Of course" Richard said and sighed. He'd been shocked when the general manager had handed him a note of dismissal today. No explanations whatever, he'd been hurt. It didn't make any sense, just last week the general manager had told him that he was definitely going to get the promotion, the same man told him that the company would no longer be needing him. Why? He shook his head and closed his eyes. 'I hope things don't go from bad to worse now' he thought. To him it seemed like he'd been back to square one again. Fücking Square one. |
............... "So what does it matter if Your husband is giving this woman money? Maybe he's just helping out a friend" Nene shrugged. Dara glared at her "Oh really, how would you feel if Richard was sending money to a strange woman?" Dara asked. "Dara you're being paranoid, and you're spoiling the fun. This place sells the best steak, we came here to eat steak not talk about family problems. Why do you think I didn't go home from work?" Nene asked. "What's your own problem Nene?" Cassie asked looking at the menu. "I don't have a problem, can we order already?!" Nene snapped. "You're cranky" Cassie stated. "Richard is being an idiot! He won't accept Malik's help to sponsor the kids education" Nene said. "You're just a fool, now Malik wants to pay your kids school fees. You think he's being charitable? I think he wants to sleep with you" Dara said. "Why? You think he's like your cheating husband?" Nene hissed. "My husband is not cheating on me" Dara yelled. "He is, I won't blame him though. You're about the most boring person in the world" Nene mocked. "Shut the hell up you two" Cassie said but Nene Ignored her. "I wonder if he told you he came to me first back in school, asked me to date him. When I refused, he decided to go for the most boring person in the group" Nene hissed. "You're just a stupid, selfish, vain, spoilt bïtch" Dara hissed back. "Nene, Dara. Stop it this instant!" Cassie said sensing things were getting out of hand. "Mind your own business Mrs perfect!" Dara yelled at Cassie. "Yes, you think you're so perfect. You can do no wrong, with your rich, perfect, husband. Screw you and your perfect life Cassandra" Nene got up and picked up her purse. Dara followed and the both of them walked out of the restaurant leaving Cassie wide-eyed. "What is wrong with two of them?" She wondered aloud. The waiter came to the table "I'm ready to take your order ma'am" he smiled. "Just fruit wine, zero alcohol. Thank you" Cassie smiled politely. °°°°°°° "Dara what's wrong?" Jidenna asked when he saw Dara was crying. "You sly bastärd!" she threw her bag at him. "You wanted to date Nene didn't you?" Dara accused. "Dara...stop. Don't do this now, the kids are asleep" Jidenna sighed putting the bag aside. "I should have just left you when I had the chance, you don't deserve me at all. You're a cheat, you're a liar and you have no respect for me at all. I hate you" Dara stood by the door. Jidenna got up and walked to her "Why are you being this way Dara?" he wondered where she had learned that he'd wanted to date Nene. That was years ago and he was glad Nene had refused. "One small mistake and I'm gone. So while you're having fun with chizaram make sure I don't find out. If I do, I'll be leaving you and I'll be taking the twins. And you won't see us ever again" she hissed before leaving the room. Jidenna stood by the door tensed, he had planned to tell her the truth tonight. He'd hoped that a night out with the girls would lighten her mood, that she would be in a good mood when she heard the truth and she would understand him. Now he couldn't bring himself to tell her anytime soon, not when she was on the edge. |
.......... "Why didn't you come back home last night?" Nene asked the minute she let Richard into the house. "I stayed over with Tonia at the hospital, she went into labour last night. She's at the hospital" Richard explained. "Oh... " Nene didn't pry him for more answers. She and Richard's sister weren't close, they didn't see eye to eye. Antonia always judged and criticized her, she on the other hand simply ignored her. "I'm going to wake the boys up, they have to get ready for school" Nene said still looking at Richard. "Why did you?..." they started together before stopping. "Why did I what?" Richard asked sharply. Nene placed her hand on his shoulder and noticed he was tense. "Last night, why did you leave?" she asked him. "That's not even important, why did you withdraw the boys from their school?" he asked. "The school... it's low standard. I just think the boys deserve better don't you think. What do you think of Green Hills?" Nene asked looking away. "Low standard Nene really? I think their former school is just fine!" Richard said. "I can't blame you for your tastes, what's done is done. The boys like their new school, there's a basketball court, a pool, tennis and guess what the school also introduces mandarin and Spanish classes to the students. Karate and other interesting activities. Green Hills is just right for the boys" Nene smiled animatedly. "You didn't even talk with me about it Nens" Richard said. "I'm sorry sweetheart, there was no time. Don't worry about it, the boys are fine now" Nene kissed his cheek. "How can we afford Green Hills? We can't afford it, how much is the tuition?" Richard asked taking out his phone. "Nothing much" Nene lied. Richard checked out details about the school quickly on google. "Nothing much is half a million for primary school students, wow! How are we going to pay for their education?" Richard turned to Nene. "The company will sponsor the kids" Nene said frowning. "Your company sponsor staff children's education?" Richard asked. "Yes" Nene replied. "Since when, and how many kids are they sponsoring? Don't think of lying Nene, I know you are planning to. Tell me to my face that you're going to allow another man cater for our children" Richard looked at Nene angrily. "What are you talking about?" Nene flared. "Don't try to fücking deny it Nene, the car, the clothes, it's all from your boss!! Now you listen to me Nene, tell him that I refuse to let him take responsibility for my children. And I don't want to see him in this house anymore!" Richard hissed and walked away. °°°°°°° "Why not Nene, I want to help you. Don't be stubborn, I love your kids. Let me sponsor their education, please. Let me do this for you" Malik stood up and walked to her. He placed his hand on her jaw and angled her face to face his. "I appreciate your help Mal, but my husband and I can't take care of that. You have done enough" Nene said. "I don't understand Nene, yesterday you were ecstatic about this. It's your husband isn't it? He declined" Malik looked thoughtful for a moment. "No, it's not that. I slept on it and I decided not to weigh you with it" Nene replied. "Tell me about yourself husband, what does he do, where does he work, why are you with him?" Malik said. Malik stared at the phone minutes later after Nene had left. He wanted Nene for himself, but there was an obstacle. The only option was getting rid of the obstacle, but how? Or he could get Nene to leave the obstacle, what would make Nene leave Richard he wondered. He picked up his phone and dialed a friend of the family. A man who he'd done business with in the past, a man who owed him a favor. "Hello Uncle Mike" he said cheerfully. "Malik, my boy. How are you son?" the man replied. "I'm fine Uncle, I'm calling because of something important. It's about one of your employees, I just found out that he worked for one of your branches in Lagos" Malik said. "Who is this person, and what about him?" Mr Abdul asked. "His name is Richard Imoh" Malik said calling the name of his problem with venom. "I'll find out about this person, what's the problem?" he asked. "I want you to fire him, I'm not asking you Uncle Mike. I plan to take that favor you owe me. Fire Richard Imoh, no questions" Malik said. "Consider it done my boy. Anything for my favorite investor" Mr Abdul laughed. Malik smiled and ended the call. "Let's See how Richard and Nene will last. |
............ Tobi first noticed the stormy look on his daughter's face before his wife's. "What's the matter honey, didn't you have fun? " Tobi asked helping Cassie with the shopping bags. "No! Mummy decided to be mean. She wouldn't but me fish!" Tiwa shouted throwing Cassie a nasty look. "Don't give me that face and go to your room this instant" Cassie glared back. "You're so evil! Like Draco malfoy in Harry Potter. I don't like you at all, I like daddy more. I don't even want a stupid party!" Tears ran down her cheeks. Tobi dropped the bags on the coffee table. "Tiwa don't say that, what happened? Talk to me" Tobi knelt beside Tiwa who was crying. "Mummy wouldn't buy me plastic toy fish, she won't let me have coconut cake either. Mummy is mean, mummy doesn't like me" she sobbed burying her face in her father's chest. Tobi rubbed her head soothingly "Tell you what? We'll go get you fishes tomorrow and a six tiered coconut cake. And coconut ice cream too" Tobi tried to console her. "Promise?" Tiwa asked. "Sure sweetheart, anything for my princess" Tobi kissed her cheeks. "Pretty girl, stop crying. Will you apologize to mummy? You know she loves you" Tobi asked. "No! I'm not talking to mummy again!" Tiwa hissed, she pulled away from her dad and ran upstairs. Tobi sighed and turned to Cassie. "Why didn't you buy the damn fish?" Tobi asked. " I was going to, your damned bastard of a brother showed up! I took Tiwa away" Cassie yelled. "Dele....." Tobi didn't look surprised. "Yes, Dele!" Cassie sat on the settee. "I thought he was in United States of never to return" she hissed wringing her hands nervously. Tobi said nothing surprisingly, Cassie looked up at her husband and studied his expression. "You knew he was back" she said shocked. Tobi sighed and nodded. "Yes, he contacted me Last week at the office" Tobi said sitting beside Cassie. "Oh my God! Tobi why didn't you tell me?" Cassie asked. "I didn't want you to worry Cassie, it's of no importance anyway. He won't do shît, you don't have anything to worry about" Tobi said. "And Tiwa?" Cassie asked looking at her husband. "Tiwa will be just fine, do you still question her paternity?" Tobi frowned. "No, but we never did a paternity test. What if he starts up trouble, if he spills secrets. He's dangerous, I don't trust him" Cassie said. "Tiwa is my daughter, that's all that matters. Paternity or no paternity test, we'll not talk about it again" Tobi said strongly. Cassie nodded and leaned into him. "You have to be strong Cassandra. You won't keep running away from him, face him. Show him no fear" Tobi kissed his wife. Cassie looked him in the eyes "I don't know if I can Tobi" Cassie murmured. "You have to" Tobi maintained and kissed his wife. Cassie broke into tears, pregnancy hormones that's all this was. Stupid, damned, pregnancy hormones. Dele was back, it doesn't matter. She wouldn't be the same weak Cassie she was years ago. She would be stronger now. |

5 "Mummy can I get a coconut flavored cake with chocolate icing this year?" Tiwa asked pulling her box braids. "Sweetheart you had that last year and the year before. Don't you think your friends are tired of eating that every year?" Cassie asked amused. "But it's my birthday, not theirs" Tiwa pouted and kicked the shopping cart lightly. Cassie hummed and picked up a pack of disposable cups. "Mummy... " Tiwa whined again. "Sweetheart would you prefer the barbie ones or the bratz? Cassie asked. "Mummy answer me" Tiwa pulled Cassie's arms again. Cassie rolled her eyes and turned to Tiwa. "Darling it's your birthday yes, but you're inviting your friends and family. I think it would be selfish of you to ask for the same cake all the time simply because it's your favorite. I don't even like coconut cake" Cassie said. Tiwa crossed her arms dissatisfied with her mother's response. "Fine, no one else should eat my cake. I'll eat it alone, with daddy. Daddy likes coconut cake" Tiwa hissed and walked away. "Sweetie don't wander far away" Cassie called out shaking her head. When Tiwa hadn't showed up minutes later, she got worried and decided to go and check the toy section. She sighed in relief when she saw Tiwa standing by the aquarium that had faux fishes in it. "Tiwa, I asked you not to wander off" Cassie hissed. "Mummy can I get a fish too?" Tiwa asked suddenly. "That's not real fish, their powered by battery. Let's go, I haven't bought balloons yet" Cassie said. "I want a fish too" Tiwa stalled looking at the aquarium. "That big one there, the one with pink, purple and blue fins" Tiwa continued. "Maybe another day honey, right now we're shopping for your party. Let's go, mummy is so tired already. Be a good girl and listen to mummy" Cassie said. "If Daddy was here, he'd buy the fish for me" Tiwa glared at Cassie. "Then maybe next time you should ask your daddy to take you shopping" Cassie said exasperated. "I want a my own fish" Tiwa said stubbornly refusing to move. "Tiwa don't do this to me today, behave yourself" Cassie frowned knowing what was coming up next. Tiwa made a face "If I cry loudly will you buy it for me?" She asked. "Tiwa don't start..." Cassie warned. "I'm going to cry mummy" Tiwa scrunched up her face in preparation for her false tears act. "Fine, we'll take the fish!" Cassie snapped. She signalled to the attendant. "Thank you mummy" Tiwa grinned. "Yes ma'am how may I be of help?" The smiling attendant asked. "I want the multi colored fish and a fish bowl to go with it" Cassie said. "Alright ma'am, please come to the counter" The smiling attendant gestured to the counter. "Mummy what should we name the fish?" Tiwa asked. "How about Cassie?" a deep voice answered. Cassie turned immediately at the sound of the voice. Her nightmare was smiling back at her. "Tiwa, we're leaving" She took Tiwa's arm and pulled her away. "Mummy my fish!" Tiwa cried looking back at the aquarium. "Next time" Cassie growled. Her heart beat raced as she pushed the cart. Dele was back, since when....? And why? |

........... Richard had just rounded off all his activities when his phone rang. He checked the caller, it was the headmistress at his Children's school. He wondered if something had gone wrong, maybe Nene closed later than usual and had forgotten to pick them up. It was her turn to pick them up today. "Hello Mrs Fomson" He said answering the call. "Good evening Mr Imoh, I hope you're not busy" she asked. "No, I'm not. Is anything the matter, Nick, Alexis?" he wondered. "Actually that's why I called sir, your wife wouldn't speak to me" she sounded pained. "Why?" Richard asked confused wondering what had gone down with Nene and the head mistress. "Your kids are exceptional and we love them here. This morning your wife sent an email that she was withdrawing the kids. I tried calling her but she wouldn't answer her phone, she hasn't replied my emails too" Mrs Fomson said. "What?" Richard asked perplexed. Nene withdrawing the boys from their school, what for? "I take it that you're not aware of this Mr Imoh" Mrs Fomson said. "No, but I'll address it and call you afterwards. Thanks for informing me Mrs Fomsom" Richard sighed. "Thanks Mr Imoh" Mrs Fomson said before ending the call. Seriously what's going on with Nene these days? He was going to confront Nene the minute he stepped into the house. Why was she withdrawing the boys out from the school without even talking to him about it. There was a man in the house when he walked in. "Daddy, daddy!" Nick rushed to hug Richard when he entered. Alexis looked up "Welcome Dad, how was work?" he asked. He didn't wait for Richard's reply before turning back to the man in the living room. "Wait a minute Alexis, let me have a word with your father" Malik said turning away from the boy. He stood up and walked to Richard. "Richard, we finally meet. I've always wanted to see the man Nene finally married, Nice to meet you" Malik stretched out his hand. "And you are?" Richard asked. "Malik, your wife's boss and dear friend of course. We've been friends for ages, long before you came along" There was a tinge of bitterness in those words. "Nice to meet you too" Richard ignored the hand and turned to Alexis. "where's your mum?" he asked. "Kitchen" he replied. Nick followed his dad into the kitchen. "Richard, you're back" Nene hugged him and kissed him. "We need to talk" he pulled away from her arms. "Talk about what?" Nene asked. "Mrs Fomson called" Richard said. "Not now, we'll talk about it later. I have a guest, will you be joining us for dinner?" Nene asked. "I'm going out, I'm going to see my mum" Richard said. "Daddy let me come with you" Nick said. Nene glared a little at Richard "You can see her tomorrow" she said. "I don't think so" Richard replied. "Nick go back to Alexis and uncle Malik" Nene ordered. Nick pouted before walking back to the living room. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you my boss was coming over, he wanted to see Alexis and Nicholas" Nene placed her hand on his shoulder. "I didn't ask, goodnight Nene" Richard walked out of the kitchen. |
........... Richard threw his blazer over his shoulder and walked to the living room. "Boys, I hope you're done with breakfast. We've got to leave now" Richard said aloud. "Dad, we're going with mummy" Nick shouted back. Richard turned to the boys "I thought mum had important things to do at work today. Why don't I take you instead?" He said. Nene breezed into the living room "Actually honey I called my boss and asked for permission already so I'm going in late to the office" Nene said. "Yay!" Nick jumped all over the place. Richard chuckled at his enthusiasm " I can't wait to see my friend's reaction when they see me in mummy's car" Nick grinned. Then he wrinkled his nose like his elder brother, a habit they had picked up from Nene when she saw dissatisfied with something. "Lex says daddy's car is outdated" He said shoving his books into his bar. "Ahhh" Richard pick up Nick and began to tickle him. "So, mummy brings home a range and daddy's Camry is suddenly outdated. Well done boys" he teased before setting Nick back on the chair. "I'll see you later in the evening Nens" he kissed her before walking out of the house. "How's your wife doing?" Dayo his colleague who rarely spoke to him asked the minute he settled into his chair. Richard turned to look at him in confusion rather than surprise "My wife is fine, how's your....girlfriend?" He asked. Dayo waved a hand in dismissal "Useless girl that one, I've told her I never to set foot in surulere again" Dayo hissed. Gossip didn't interest Richard so he turned to his computer instead. "You know my brother Kunle, the one who came with me to the easter party?" Dayo asked Richard. Richard held his breath before turning back to Dayo. "What about him?" He asked. "He works in the accounting department at the same firm with your wife" Dayo said. "I don't suppose Nene knows him, she's never mentioned him before" Richard turned once more to his computer. Dayo ignored the hint of sarcasm and the dismissal. "I wonder how you feel knowing your wife earns about four times the amount of your salary. Half a million, wow!Soon you'll be swimming in money" Dayo said. Richard looked at the man like he was delusional. "Dayo, what's this nonsense you're saying?" he asked irritated. "Kunle tells me that your wife is being paid five hundred thousand" Dayo still looked amazed. "He's mistaken, Nene earns a hundred and fifty" Richard said. "My brother is not a liar" Dayo snapped. "My wife isn't either" Richard snapped also. "She's the only one who earns that much in the company can you imagine?" Dayo said. "Kunle says she's friend's with the owner of the firm, that explains why she gets staff allowance of over a million. Don't you wonder how she got her car?" Dayo asked. "Just shut up and stop spinning tales Dayo" Richard hissed. This time Dayo kept quiet, Richard shook his head. The lies people come up with, he mused. |
4 Dara made her mind not to talk about Chizaram, or ask Jidenna about her again. That was why she's held her peace when she saw chizaram by the gateman's post late in the afternoon. Chizaram didn't stay for a long time, she didn't come to the main door either. Dara only watched her from her bedroom window upstairs, it was only after chizaram had gone that she went downstairs. Jidenna was in the living room indulging the twins in a game of scrabble. "I wasn't aware you were awake" he looked up from the game. Dara only rolled her eyes and sat down at the far end of the living room thinking about this mystery woman. "Are you okay mummy?" Lota asked innocently. "Sssh...mummy and daddy are fighting" Iremide said picking up a tile. Jidenna looked at the twins astonished, most especially at Iremide. "Ire, what gave you that idea?" he asked. Dara looked at her daughter in askance too. "Mummy has been giving you angry looks since yesterday, lota and I give each other angry looks when we're fighting" Iremide shrugged. "Daddy see I what I formed" She looked up with bright eyes. "Iremide you're mistaken, your dad and I are on good terms. You mustn't say that again" Dara warned. "Yes mummy" Iremide said her attention on the board again. Minutes later, Dara couldn't hold back her curiosity so she went out to confront Sunday the gate man. "What did she want?" She asked. "What?" Sunday looked confused. "That woman, what did she want?" she asked. "She... She came to pick up a cheque. Oga gave me a cheque in the morning that someone would come to pick it up in the afternoon" Sunday said. A cheque? Dara wondered briefly. "Did you see how much was written on the cheque?" Dara asked. "Two hundred thousand Naira madam" Sunday replied. Dara nodded her head "Let me know if he gives you another cheque again and Sunday don't let him know about this conversation" Dara walked back to the house. All through the night, she kept wondering why Jidenna was secretly giving this woman money. What for? Her mind was racing to different opinions. It wasn't until two o'clock she remembered something Cassie had said. Something about baby mamas and cheques, but that was just a thought. Jidenna wouldn't have children with someone else, or would he? |
You're welcome
children have this effect on people, I don't think Mia would have turned out this way if she'd kept her baby.
Everyone will shut up with a baby on the way. Dude has how many women in one house, he hasn't slept with any. Are they for decor
