Yes, that is exactly what i am saying. It is not controversial because there is no speculation. They don't need to go up there themselves to carry out these experiments because we have the technological tools to observe and perform experiments from the ground. And yes there have been several experiments that have successfully induced lightning and thunder. Lightning and thunder are not mystical strange things. They are things that we very much understand.

I was going to answer the question with what i read online, but others have already done that.

It is imperative to state here that this is still a theory

This is a common misconception a lot of people have, mistaken the colloquial definition of a theory with a scientific one. The regular use of theory is actually a hypothesis in the scientific method. In the scientific method, a theory is an explanation, backed up by evidence for a phenomenon. The phenomenon is observed and hypothesis are developed. This hypothesis is then tested vigorously to see if it holds up, if it does, then it becomes a theory. If it fails, it is discarded.

Think of scientific knowledge as approximations. We are digging deeper and deeper. Science is the shovel and the theories are like the layers of dirt , each new theory based on new evidence is closer to the actual thing than the last.

An example of this is Neil-Bohr's model of an atom, that atoms consist of a central nucleus containing a proton and a neutron and electrons orbiting the nucleus (in a planetary manner). This was the accepted theory about a century ago and it works for practical purposes. But through further experimentation, we know this model to not be "correct". We now know that electrons aren't just particles but also behave like waves, and they don't orbit around the nucleus, but are found in regions calculated by probability equations.

As another example, lets imagine this scenario. You're in an empty room with a light bulb and a switch. You've never seen both of this stuff before. You look at the switch and you form a hypothesis that the switch might have something to do with the bulb. To test this, You turn the switch one way and the light bulb is on, you turn it the other way and the light bulb is off. You then say, for every light bulb there is a switch which controls it and call it the light bulb and switch theory. This theory is not wrong, but it is incomplete. It is also not speculation.
Now years past and scientists have tested several hypothesis about how the bulb and switch work and they all failed, until one person comes along. He thinks to himself and wonders if there is any thing connecting the switch and the bulb (his hypothesis). The advancements of his time have given him better tools to probe this phenomenon -- he now has a pick axe. So he hacks at random points along the wall until he finds a wire. What is this? he doesn't know. He keeps hacking, uncovering the wall until he sees the conduit wiring underneath the wall, connecting the switch to the bulb. He disconnects the wire and the switch no longer controls the bulb. He connects the wires back and it works as usual. He then says that if a switch is connected via a wire to the bulb, the switch would be able to turn the bulb on and off. He calls it the switch, wire and bulb theory. This theory is much closer to the actual thing than the last one. But note the last one wasn't wrong, it was just incomplete and both theories are not just speculation, they were tested and have empirical data to back them up.
Now let's say years later, another scientists comes along and wants to know how it all works. He believes there is something in the wire that causes the bulb to turn on and the switch is just one part of a bigger system (hypothesis). He probes the wire to find out what's going on. He finds out the wires from the bulb loop back to another device (the battery) and that without this device, neither the switch or the wire alone can turn the bulb on. He finds out when the loop (the circuit) is complete (connected to the battery) the compass needle deviates and when the loop is cutoff from the battery the compass needle returns to position. There must be something in the wire coming from the device (the battery) and this thing in the wire generates a magnetic field that affects the compass. He finally concludes that when you create a complete loop with the final device, the device passes a juice that flows to the bulb and powers it on and that the switch is just to control the flow of this juice. He calls this the juice source theory. Non of these theories are speculation because they're backed up by evidence and the next iterations are more complete forms of the previous ones.
This is a simple example of how it all works but it gets the point accross.

I'm an Atheist, but i have to admit this is a good thing he did. Now let me ask, why can't he go and perform miracles in the hospital? If he does his Jesus magic, he can save money.

Alot of atheist have actually read the bible. In fact reading the bible comprehensively was the final nail in coffin for their faith and a good number of them know the bible even more than the average christian. I myself am not an adept student of it, but my grandmother was an evangelist and i was brought up in this so yes, i have read the bible.

Your bible doesn't prophesy shit but only makes vague and sometimes very obvious statements.

This just mentions things that have been happening for thousands of years, before and during the time that verse was written, and will most likely continue to happen. This is not a prophecy or prediction, it's a statement of fact from observation. Where is mention of Corona virus in the bible?

Yes, we will continue to mock and challenge religion. I go about my life minding my business, but we live in a very religious society and so religion pops up everywhere. The precedence placed on churches and pastors by people is just ridiculous and deserves scrutiny. If something is true, it will withstand scrutiny. I've been following this corona story since early this year and I've even spoken to people in heavily hit areas like Italy. I know how bad this thing can get for us especially with our inferior 3rd world infrastructure. Please think. Do those other countries not have religous people too? Alot of those countries that are suffering now also have christians and muslims . Italy has one of the most severe cases but has had a christian history longer than our country's existence. Iran is one of the places that has been at the heart of the muslim faith for centuries, but what is Allah doing while they struggle to contain it?
Please stop all the nonsence. Obey the instructions concerning conduct. Use the internet to educate yourself more about this epidemic. Abstain from church, mosques or where ever it is you go for worship (and any other large gatherings).
Your pastors, imams etc are not scientist (except they studied to be). They don't know shit about this beyond what they can read online, just like the rest of us. If they're talking about corona virus and not relaying any of the useful, pratical and relevant message about the virus and conduct during this period, ignore them. The holy spirit will not cure you. Jesus christ will not save you. The blood of Jesus is not a vaccine. Anointing oil will not wash it away. Communion wine will not cure you. If you must pray, pray in your homes. Pray for the doctors, nurses and other health care officials around the world fighting tirelessly to save lives. Pray for the scientists who are working vigilantly to find an antiviral cure and a vaccine for this thing.
