I wanna change Africa, I'm not gonna lie. That's my mission. I am the African Dream |
To say the fact, Mobile is so much fun, I love it. I didn't leave because I was broke No! If it's a passion, it doesn't matter if you make money or not. You will keep on keeping on. But as soon as I realized that having a revolutionary idea on the web looks better to capture the African market based on the number of users on Android compare to the web. My personal conclusion last year was most things that strive in America always strive in Nigeria but not at the same time. It will first make waves in America then later Nigeria picks up and also do excellently well. Look at Hollywood to Nollywood, Nigeria is Famous for Nollywood and the whole world is learning to speak pidgin English because of that, most especially the African countries... Look at the Music Industry, After US Hip Hop / music industry became the number one in the world, the Nigerian Afrobeat Hiphop and music industry is now striving and the whole world is embracing it. I predict our music industry will take over in the future because of the rate of growth. Now coming to my industry, I thought doing mobile 2yrs ago or now was a bit earlier than it's time in Nigeria. Since the web reigned in US first in the period of emergence of Google, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and numerous web start ups I made the conclusion that web is the way in Africa right now! Look at Nairaland, Jumia, Konga etc To be able to have that winning life changing idea venture, I had to think web and do web. Python and web2py will make me take over Africa and I am happy doing it now, I can't imagine doing anything else. I advise Mobile developers to keep on doing their thing, we all have choices. Believe in yourself kawai! Shikenan. |
Besides, no knowledge is wasted. I am happy to go through Java and Android before I started Python, it really helped me a lot. |
This article below explains why I left Android completely to Python and Web2py Framework. Back in the days my biggest dream was to see my first Android App in the google play store where people can download it from anywhere in the world. Then After spending some time in Java and Android with couple of apps both published and unpublished its about a year since I left that lane completely to settle on Python programming language and web application development. Now the are talking about it on TC please read. I am not discouraging anybody to continue with mobile apps but men! I no fit shout read first. The Majority Of Today’s App Businesses Are Not Sustainable http://techcrunch.com/2014/07/21/the-majority-of-todays-app-businesses-are-not-sustainable/?ncid=twittersocialshare via @techcrunch |
webcalculator: You inspired all. We are looking forward to nairaland Github account and you know why 'you need share some code'.I absolutely agree with you. Seun inspired like almost 95% of python programmers in Nigeria including me. Seun has been deliberating on why Python is better than PHP directly & indirectly for a very long time! Please no language wars here, the thread is moving amazingly... Thanks |
In Nigeria they are still teaching Basic Programming language in introductory computer science. We are so 1979! They world has moved forward. |
Every body please watch out for me, I am the real African dream. |
I am now fully into Python and Web2py Framework! www.about.me/gideongeorge |
Hello my fellow programmers, please lets identify with our current programming language and current city of residence. So that we can easily identify with those that have things in common. My current language of development is Python Framework: Web2py City: Abuja Future Language of contemplation is the new Swift Programming Language by Apple. |
None! Don't re-invent the wheel. |
Great and useful |
Lenovo is one of the fatest growing laptop in terms of sales. I've never used it but I have been seeing awesome Lenovo laptops in shopping malls and also hearing good reports about it. |

I just want to buy Apple as my next. But if I will ever use windows again, it has to be Dell You can start from somewhere dude. |
Make a two days research on google about it and you will be surprise how knowledgeable you will be. Google is your friend. |
Apple MacBook Pro 17inches is N530, 000 if you can afford it, go for it. If you can't You can buy a correct Dell inspiron That's my own point of view |
Xsolutions: Very Good reply...Thanks boss, attitude is everything! |
rutchiekens: Who cares?Sorry bro, I'm just saying... No wrong intentions. |
As others said, there is absolutely no place like www.codeacademy.com Checkout my profile http://www.codecademy.com/ggeorge I have a whopping 858 points... If you start you will know that 100points no be beans |
Kofi_Obibi: Where do you live ?I live in Abuja |
I am very much interested but don't know how to sign up |
Laravel first! by 80% CodeIgniter second by 20% |
@trytillmake Wow... that's so great! Thank you very much for the inspiration and encouragement! @wisemania Thank you very much, I am delighted to hear that. For the ebooks are you really serious about them? because I don't think it's worth the time now since there are couple of videos from phpacademy.org and codeacademy.com that will make you understand better. I just think ebooks are old school right now(Even though there are some explanations you only get in a book) But seriously, I think you should just use the sites above, they tend to make you more productive as a programmer compare to the books, and you know time is money and also the most important thing for a programmer. There is absolutely no time to waste than being super productive, so always utilize your time and move forward in programming. If you insist on the books I will just create a zip folder for it, and upload them to my site for you to download. But trust me you don't need it in this 2014! |
nollyj: Nice work GideonG. I wish you all the best in your new start-up. By this time next year you will be sharing a story of success about your start-up.Thanks guy, I am going to bring a 5-7 people on board to help me take it to the next level! I can't do it alone, I need that mastermind alliances working in absolute harmony to achieve the dream. |
Wow, guyz thanks for the encouragement! I am so very grateful. I will make the site responsive. |
Three years ago I know nothing about programming, I will come to the programming section of Nairaland everyday and read every topic and every comments. My biggest dream then was to be a computer programmer, even though I was getting inspiration and constantly getting motivated by the programmers on Nairaland, I was procrastinating because my beliefs was that I will go to either NIIT or Aptech to study. I was actively doing crude oil business everyday doing it with all my mind, body and spirit working very hard trying to close a deal so that I can raise enough money to start my programming career. In crude oil business I rose to unbelievable heights... It came to a point where my crude oil website was ranking number 1 on google worldwide! I had real time sellers of bonny light crude oil and clients from all over the world calling me 24hours round the clock, every now and then most of them spending about 20-30minutes on phone, discussing oil transactions. TTO this, TTT that...2 million barrels of crude oil, Fob, Blco, flco, forcados, SPA, CIF were my daily terminologies, I was always on the verge of hitting it big! But that business dealt with me beyond explanation. To cut the long story short, I never made a dime in this business after 2 complete years of absolute hardwork on a daily basis, going to meetings at big hotels and other prestige locations, skype, spending money of phone calls and internet. Towards ending of 2011 I promised my self that I will continue with the patience, perseverance and determination but if I couldn't close a deal by 31st December 2011, I will start my darling programming on the 1st January 2012 as my new year resolution. That's how I started learning programming on the 1st day of January 2012, after reading a post made by a nairaland programmer where he linked to an article explaining how the some of the best programmers in the world are self-taught programmers. Since I didn't have the funds to go to NIIT or Aptech, and upon my intensive research I realize I can learn on my own and it's better that way, I decide to start from www.w3schools.com because that's the website everybody was recommending on Nairaland. I studied HTML, Css, Javascript and PHP on www.w3schools.com then moved to www.homeandlearn.co.uk to study PHP more. I contacted a friend and a php programmer in the Uk who sent 6 PHP books for me. each and every ebook is more than 750 pages and I promised my self that I will read all attentively two times each. I read the books one after the other twice and got a better knowledge and view on programming and PHP as a whole. After that I went to codeacademy.com and acquainted my self with HTML5, Css3 and Javascript. it was at Codeacamy I got the concept of OOP and understood it very well when I was learning javascript. Even before I started at codeacademy, I was very active at phpacademy.org which has the most influence of my programming life! Every day I will download 20-50videos from phpacademy.org and their youtube channel and study. I ended up having more than 2000 videos that taught be better CSS, PHP procedural programming, OOP and CodeIgniter PHP framework. Unlike in crude oil business where I suffered without getting a dime for 2years, I programming I got my first contract job to develop an application worth 200k. A friend got the job, I single handedly did the job and we shared the cash! That's how I got my first pay in programming precisely on the 1st August 2012, just 7 months of my learning. The rest is history now I've got several jobs in PHP to the extends that I have to reject many of them because at a certain point in time my mind was fixed on Android application development. I was so passionate about Java and Android that I have to forsake PHP and Mysql and concentrate my every energy towards Java and Android. Before I started Java I was afraid of it but when I started I discovered that java is very interesting and because I understand OOP very well from PHP and Javascripts, It took me only 4weeks to learn Java and understand it very well to the extend of moving straight to my darling Android development which is a long time dream come true. I studied android development and Develop 3 applications, but only published 2 in the google play store. check all my Android apps here https://play.google.com/store/search?q=Gideon%20George . My very first Android app is the Kokomaster App. The App is an idea implementation I did for Dbanj. The Kokomaster App (This version is uncompleted ) is an application for D'banj. Fans can see exclusive pictures, songs , videos and wallpapers, fans can also upload their pictures and view other people's pictures in 3 different categories namely 'The craziest', 'Sexiest' and 'The hottest'. The initial plan was to get Dbanj to sponsor the complete version on all the smartphone Os'es (Android, iPhone, Windows and BB). I got talking with Dbanj through his awesome manager who was kind to me in every aspect but along the line when I was about to submit my hardcopy proposal and do some final discussions on how to make the dream come true, My Laptop crashes and my screen got damage too. I faced hardships, challenges for good four months before I revived , it's a long story joor... After that my mission was to build an App that will enable me win the MTN App Challenge but due to numerous challenges beyond my control, I never get to build the App until it was too late to catch up with the competition so I came back to PHP! I also got so many Job offers through Nairaland because of my signature and my profile which is linked to my Twitter handle. I started a PHP Job in Onipanu-Jibowu side as a PHP Programmer and Mobile developer I did it for a while until challenges came in again... I build some ideas that never went public, constantly working on something to make my dream a reality... Lastly my latest product is done and I am releasing it to the general public. It's my startup, I put alot of hard work in there and it's my best Job yet! I want to have 100,000 users before by January and I want to celebrate 1 year anniversary with 1 million users. I know nothing is impossible, if I can think it, I can do it. So I will work very hard towards it and make the dream come true. This is the link to the project www.romanticpeeps.com Special shout out to Seun for influencing me on the benefits of Python programming language throughout the years... I follow Seun on quora and I think he is absolutely amazing and a role model. Shout out to Javanian, Fayimora and all the programmers on Nairaland. You guys contributed in one way or the other... What do you think about my project? I want to make it real big! May God bless our hustle all!!!! |

This is the first time I am posting on religion section of Nairaland. I just wrote my mind on Facebook and I thought I should share it with Nairaland. Going to church is like a custom and tradition, most people go there because they are used to going there every Sunday, some even think that missing a church service is a huge sin. But only God knows... I hate to discuss religion, I'm not fond of judging people and I can never judge anybody because I believe I am advanced in thinking, but what bothers me is the prejudice and discrimination which have been prevalent throughout Nigeria. We tend to go the extra mile on religions issues but I will never blame anybody because whatever you teach a child diligently from the ages of 3 -13years will be so attached to their sub-conscious mind for ever and just like Newton's First Law Of Motion- Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. Nobody can change your views! Unknown to you, 95% of the reason why you are in your present religion is because you were born into the family of that practicing religion and your mind was nurtured based on that since you were a kid! This is the first time I am saying this, and I hope I will not be misunderstood. More than a decade ago I studied the bible from Genesis to revelation twice! This, only those that went to FGC Azare and were close to me from Jss2-ss1 can testify and my Mum too. And when I say studied I really mean studied, not just read or skim.(Forget this matter though, I just recalled it and I am not bragging). In China, and India there population is in billions! Plenty of them are not even practicing our major religions. The world is full of people of different religions, but we all came from the same place and have a unified infinite intelligence as a divine providence. Only those that can not think will have time for prejudice. Religion is man-made! I repeat my statement, religion is man-made! Jesus never preached religion but salvation. All the religions we are practicing today came after the death of Christ, just about 2000 years ago. The world is about 4.5billion years old! Doctrines are everywhere and everyone thinks his or hers is superior but one of the most important thing is to have a personal relationship with God! Irrespective of your faith. My last word for you is to be serene, be of good character and sound attitude, your attitude in life is the most important thing! when we were in Nursery they used to say A is for Apple but now my Guy, A is for attitude. Always always be of good attitude, those that knows me closely most especially in Lagos knows that I always advocate for good attitude because it can not be overemphasized! As I am typing this, everybody is in Church, I am at home today (Or any other day, I just don't feel like) and that doesn't mean I am better or people that are in Church are better than me, but I strive for perfection even though nobody is perfect. Believe in God and have a personal relationship with him.PERIOD! |
